Russia has always been a world power before Putin rose to power. He didn't build anything, he's only interested in military capacity as to keep himself in power and eliminate any opposition at will. The economy of Russia is nothing to reckon with. And mind you, Ukraine is already a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Russia was nothing after Soviet, ruled and exploited by Western puppets and it was Putin who got rid of them and made it his mission to rebuild Russia and and alliance of old Soviet.

How is it possible that a weak economy can rebuild and advance its military to modern standards within a short period of time?

Undermining democracy and nonsense talk..

It's quite obvious that democracy as a system of government is not fit for Africa, but they keep forcing it and using it as a tool to destabilise the continent for their own benefits.

It's quite a shame that most Africans in their usual low esteem will nod and agree to Western opinions about them simply because they've lost their own identity in a fast changing world and that's why we are so easy to manipulate.

What if we discard democracy and adopt our own system that suits our own ways of life? What if we go back in history and figure where we got it wrong?

Them oyinbos are humans just like you. They know the African potential and scared of it, and they use democracy to install incompetent leaders to give us false sense of freedom, and anyone that challenges this is labelled as bad and coup plotters.

I support the coup in Mali and other countries as long they get rid of foreign influence in their lands and take control of their resources. I'm sure France and their allies will be shitting in their pants cos they know the implications and can't stand it.

Mimiko was the best governor during his first term, why? Cos he paid salaries regularly. His second term, he became the worst governor cos he started to owe while the people forgot the free health and shuttle buses for their children he did all through his administration.
Similarly the current one, he didn't have problems till he started owing last year, while initially praising him for his road construction works (that's another story).

Only a few break out of the group think and make something out of themselves.

Go to the streets and see the genuine reason why people complain the way they do and then compare to a more productive society and see for yourself..

I'm a civil servant in the state and I can say with confidence that Ondo people, especially civil servants are lazy and most of them depend on salaries for survival. No capacity to improve themselves.

How can a country develop with such thinking?

He's one the best governors in my opinion but It all boils down to the mentality of our people, who always want to eat their cake and have it, and the youths have adopted similar mentality as our parents in that government is supposed to do everything for them without them being responsible.

He's disliked in my state cos he owes salary and he's building infrastructure with limited resources, he's logical and doesn't appeal to the emotions of the people. They prefer he pays them salaries instead of capital projects, share government money at will for political reasons, yet same people will complain about bad roads and why healthcare isn't 100% free and why rice is expensive.

The simple fact is that, whoever proposes the removal of fuel subsidy is going to be opposed by millions if not most Nigerians. That is what happened in 1993, 2006/7 and even in 2012.

Buhari in 2012, had lost elections several times, and was looking for a means to get power in 2015. Opposing subsidy provided the means by which he could get into power. He played cunny man, opposed subsidy along with most Nigerians, and got elected. Now, having seen how subsidies impact the economy, he has woken up. Too bad he could not listen to the wise words of people like NOI or SLS back in 2012.

But he isn't the reason why GEJ was unable to remove subsidy completely. The reason is most Nigerians, including GEJ supporters, who opposed and marched against it. If GEJ had totally removed subsidy in 2012, he would have lost the 2015 election by an even wider margin...plus APC would have brought it back, and reversed the gains being made.

So we kept a bad programme , which enriched a lot of people illicitly and further decimated domestic petrol production, to say nothing of getting us into more debt. Anyway, subsides on kerosene, diesel and gas went...good thing.

It's the same reason why even people like Abacha never contemplated total subsidy removal.

The painful thing is that if we had removed the thing in 2012, by now we would have been enjoying the benefits , and we would have been over the worst. Plus we had higher oil prices in 2012, meaning that there would have been enough cash to pay the poor to help them prosper.

INFACT, the partial removal of subsidy GEJ did was used to pay for things like SURE P and some improvements in public transport (just as the partial removal of subsidy by Abacha paid for the PTF). things THAT could not be sustained when oil prices crashed in 2014.

Anyway, subsidy has to go. The oil income is falling, and it is becoming more difficult to sustain subsidies. Unless we pay taxes at rates of 50% of our income .
