Apps is what is hindering winphones from progressing and lack of major oems in windows phone production is also part of it.....to solve dis, microsoft started developing windows 10(an os dat ll allow unified all windows os),since computers and phones ll have same os kernel, dis ll lure developers to develope apps dat ll b used across all windows devices(unlike fones and pc with diffrnt os and app stores).with 1.5 billion pc,developers ll be encouraged to move their apps to unified windows stores.....more also, microsoft have settled rift with samsung(who want to reduce depency on android) and other major players in phone making windows phones....dont also forget dat most android oem are not happy with google animousity and strictness towards its oem and poor return in profit made from smartphones(apple make almost 85% of smartphone profits)
What you are saying above have been repeated countless times on various Tech Sites, Blogs and forum posts. What we are witnessing today in marketshare will still be in place when Your WINTEL mobile strategy takes off.

Just as analyst says dat windows 10 ll reduce android percentage in smartphones, intel is backing on dis to reduce qualcom dominance in mobile.....its going to be a war btween quadroid and wintel
Banking on the Microsoft and Nokia Deal, these same analysts told us that WinPhone will capture more than 30% market share in 2011.
Where is Windows Phone today? Less than 3%. And Android is over 80% worldwide.

Like l posted earlier, Intel has historically had many false dawns in mobile. They have had some design wins in low-volume handsets, but these haven’t sold in any material quantities.

I think Intel is more likely to have success in tablets, where power/performance constraints are less onerous than in handsets, owing to the proportionately larger battery.

Yeah,av heard of dat......windows tablets re growing at the xpense of ipads and android....oem re just waiting for windows 10 to jump into windows bandwagon.dont also forget dat the introduction of laplet (tablet with laptop specs) by microsoft is forcing appleto launch ipad pro(a tablet dat ll b powered intel broadwell processor and mac os) soa as to reduce fal[ of ipads......dont also forget dat the launch of intel next generation processor (skylake) will be intel's most innovative and greatest cpu.....the world is waiting for windows 10 with intel skylake processor in summer 2015
Intel will win some share in handsets, and more in Windows tablets, but this will be limited, however, by competition from ARM’s many partners. Also, remember that ARM based devices are gaining 2% to 3% share in markets outside mobile every year.

Cherry trail and x series re intel answer to arm processor
ARM has a very efficient architecture offering that is the de facto standard in mobile, and it is enticing in the datacenter as well for the same reasons, it's too late for Intel to achieve the dominance they enjoy in PC market.

a review on flagship phones at the release of s galaxy s4 found out that the motorola flagship phone performed better in fact, was the fastest. that moto droid has a dual core intel atom while s4 boasts octacore all cores ARM cortex. why should a dual core breath near an octacore talkless of submerging it?
I bet you are fully aware of the sales figures for both devices. The game is in their numbers and global appeal.

Drain on batteries is a key issue for smartphones and tablets. Historically, Intel has come up with powerful processors but paid little attention to battery life. By contrast, ARM from the very beginning has delivered designs where chips consume very little power. This has played a part in creating the drag Intel’s efforts to compete,

Ok.....dont forget dat intel powered tablets re cheaper dan qualcom tablet;dont forget dat android tablets and ipad sales re falling due to lack of innovation in hardware and unproductiveness, thus resulting to pple switching back to computer;dont forget dat intel powered microsoft surface pro 3 tablet(d best and most productive tablet and most innovative tech. in d world) is sweeping ipad out in us and europe, with pple waiting for the next version( surface pro 4)òdont forget dat d success of surface pro 3 has made ppl to request microsoft to produce 'surface phone'(a fone with full desktop operation),this lead intel to launch smartphone processors(x3,x5 and x7);dontforget the world is leaving smartphone for immersive technology(virtual reality and augmented reality),with microsoft hololens(intel powered) taking d lead;dont forget dat wearables and internet of things(iot) are the next technology re mostly intel powered and finally, dont forget dat the android dominance ll be reduced by end of this year as microsoft is about to launch windows 10(unified operating system) and launch of microsoft hardware(surface phones, surface tablet, surface hub, microsoft band, hololens, room alive, xbox, xbox vr etc ........wintel partnership is unbreakable
Have you ever heard of Market Maturity or Over Saturation?

The Android Tablet Market is Over Saturated. And With 5.5, 5.7 and 6 inch phablets becoming main stream devices, you can expect the market for tabs to slow down.

Then, for the windows tabs, the game is in the number. If is not selling like Android and iDevices, then it is all wash.

I strongly believe for compatibility, ARM is the current leader in terms of mobile processors. ARM’s partners have shipped 50 billion chips based on its designs, all for mobile and embedded markets.

For Android, ARM is the de-facto standard and this leads to a problem for Intel and MIPS. Although Android uses Java as its principal programming language, it also allows programmers to take their existing code (in C or C++, for example) and create apps. These “native” apps are generally compiled for ARM processors and not always for Intel or MIPS. To get around this Intel need to use special translation software which converts the ARM instructions into code for their processors.

This of course impacts performance. At the moment Intel can claim about a 90% compatibilitywith all the apps available in the Play Store. That figure is probably closer to 100% when dealing with the top 150 apps. On the one-hand that is a good coverage, but on the other hand it shows ARM’s dominance in that the other processor designers need to offer a completely new or different compatibility layer for the Operating System.

Intel has barely made a dent in the mobile market, while ARM has been wildly successful.

When you’re choosing a smartphone or tablet, you’ll notice that some models use Intel Atom processors, while others are based on the competing ARM architecture.

This latter camp includes the Samsung Exynos, Qualcomm Snapdragon, Nvidia Tegra and Apple A7 platforms. Both families of chips are designed for low-power operation, to give mobile devices the long battery life they need.

Technically, however, they represent different philosophies: the ARM architecture is designed to be as simple aspossible, to keep energy wastage to a minimum, whereas Intel’s Atom range uses a more complex design that benefits from compatibility with the company’s (much more power-hungry) desktop and laptop CPUs.

It's also worth noting that ARM has been powering portable devices for decades, while Intel is a relative newcomer to this area. For now, ARM is very much the dominant architecture: iPads and iPhones use ARM exclusively, as do Windows Phone devices, so if you’re interested in these platforms, the distinction between ARM and Intel isn’t currently something you need to worry about.

ARM and intel are different companies. while your claim on patents might be true, ARM is responsible for for the cortex chip and intel is responsible for the atom chip in the mobile world.

Intel is about to break into mobile market.it just launched x3,x5 and x7(equivalent to i3,i5 and i7 in laptops) earlier this week.its rumoured to power windows 10 for phones with full desktop performances.....there re still doubt about battery consumption
The ways you see the market Performance of different Operating Systems, so are you going to see the Intel Chips against those of Qualcomm, MediaTek and others. The Smart Devices platform is getting too hard to crack by Intel. No pun intended.

Arm is in charge of mobile devices while intel owns computer.
ARM Holdings Liscenses patents and processor designs to the likes of Qualcomm, MediaTek etc.

Intel has been trying to break into the Smartphones space for long but meet with failure everytime. Sometime ago, Intel went as far getting ARM processor design just to break into that mobile platform.

@OP, remove ARM from that list. It is an abomination. ARM hold the patents to the inventions and Innovation for mobile processors on almost all the mobile devices.

Intel even bows to The Might of ARM Holdings.
