PhonesHow To Wipe Your Android Personal Data Completely Before Selling Your Phone by randieboy(op): 6:37pm On Jul 20, 2014

The security outfit Avast claims that factory resetting your android phone does not completely erase your personal data. The company bought 20 used phones off eBay that the sellers thought had been wiped out, but by using forensics techniques, Avast was able to recover the previous owner's data.

The melodramatic descriptions of the leftover data includes "family photos of children," "photos of women in various stages of UnCloth," and "selfies of what appear to be the previous owner’s manhood," along with the usual texts and e-mails.Avast explained to CNET that this software is fairly generic and publicly available.

How then can you protect yourself from the future owner of your device if they should purchase this software? Here's what you can do.

1. Go to Settings>Security>Encrypt phone. This should take about an hour.

2. After encryption restore phone to factory settings. This process would ensure the encryption of your data and make your data inaccessible to any future owner. See source for picture illustrated guide.
