https://amore.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Ebola-770x513.jpg The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has warned Nigerians on the need to raise their guard against another outbreak of Lassa fever and Ebola. Dr Tunde Olawepo, the Chairman of the association in Kwara, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ilorin. Olawepo also cautioned the country against letting down its guard against the deadly virus, Ebola and Lassa fever. He said that the government and people have relaxed measures that were created to contain the spread of Ebola at its outbreak in 2013. According to him, surveillance of travelers entering the country has stopped just as people had relaxed with personal hygiene like the regular washing of hands and use of sanitizers. “We need to step up with preventive measures and this means people must keep up with hygiene at all times,” he said. The doctor warned that if these measures were not sustained, these contagious diseases could resurface. The NMA chairman also advocated for psychological examination of people aspiring to hold sensitive positions in the government. He explained that psychopaths abound in society who appeared to be many normal but need a psychological examination to confirm the true state of health. But against Davido’s wish through that song, bananas cannot be falling anymore. The World Health Organisation says that gonorrhea infections are increasing, but doctors are running out of antibiotics that can fight the increasingly resistant bacteria causing the sexual disease. Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae . The one major headache with this disease is in the way it presents itself dormant with no noticeable symptoms. It is easily passed between people through unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex. People with multiple sexual partners and people who have unprotected sex are top on the list of likely patients. It is advisable to carry out routine screening if sexually active and take care not to have sex with a partner who complains of painful urination, genital sores or vaginal discharge until they are tested. WHO has discovered, through data provided by two-thirds of the countries that report resistance data, that antibiotics of last resort no longer worked against gonococci bacteria. Melaye, who had initially ridiculed the process has come out to challenge the process saying it all has been orchestrated by the state governor. A spokesperson of INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, has said that the commission would go ahead with the recall as the suit being referred to by Melaye’s counsel is mere intent to challenge the process. “Yes, it is true we received a letter from his lawyer but, that is just an intention to go to court, the case has not been heard, so, you can’t say we should stop our process because he wants to go to court. Security forces have killed at least 150 people since August 2015 to quell pro-independence protests, Amnesty International says. The campaign has also fuelled tension in northern Nigeria, where some youth groups have retaliated by threatening to expel Igbos who live there. So, the statement by Igbo leaders pledging loyalty to Nigeria could help ease tension in the north, says the BBC’s Naziru Mikailu in the capital, Abuja. Following a specially convened meeting in the Igbo heartland of Enugu city to discuss the crisis, state governors, lawmakers, traditional and religious leaders issued a statement on Sunday to give their “full support” to a ‘united Nigeria’. However, the statement called for the vast and oil-rich West African state to be ‘restructured’ to achieve ‘a just and equitable society’. Bedmate Furniture Company worker, William Ekanem landed in hospital after his Chinese employer identified as Master Wan caused him a spinal cord injury with one kick. Read more: Chinese employer cripples employee with Kung Fu moves On the day of the incident, Master Wan demanded to see a package Ekanem was carrying. The bag which contained rice Ekanem had bought from a local food vendor on the premises was forcefully taken by Wan, who went ahead to search the package. A little altercation resulted thereafter and a resulting kick left Ekanem sprawled on the floor sill pinned down by said Master Wan. He was pulled away from the grip of his boss by other colleagues and a visit to the hospital confirmed he had sustained some injuries to his spinal cord. Doctors who were handling the case said the injury was not serious but required a month of physiotherapy to correct the damage done. The company, who claimed Ekanem was a petty thief and faking the injury, made no efforts to cover any of his medical expenses and caused Ekanem to hire a lawyer to sue the company to the tune of N50 million.
