To even think some folks here are still shouting 'Sai Barbarians' till.2023 still baffles me what a Country. Nigeria actually elected an enemy as President! |
To those who sent in their calls a Whatsapp messages I really appreciate the offer is still on for investors and rice millers and the likes. |
Sealeddeal:God bless your brain my bro indeed you have your ears on the ground more respect to your brain and brilliant exposé on Obasanjo's sly mission on Atiku only the wise can see this. I will appreciate your sincere contributions here: https://www.nairaland.com/4320919/projected-atikus-masterstroke-statistical-analyses |
deomelllo:Really? coz you are messing with the wrong person. |
deomelllo:You just confirmed my assertion about you leave it or take it, your Buhari deal is the DOA here. Atiku is it by 2019! |
Hello Lalasticlala kindly help me push this to the front page please campaign has started already |
deomelllo:I strongly believe you are ok right? Is it a crime now for someone to feel like contributing to my posts once in a while and how you even come about with your wild guess is ridiculous I wonder what you do for a living, I guess "stalking"? Little wonder you are forming one mumu "I have given out N100,000 cash to Nairalanders" when you know yourself please stop that mad attitude of assuming someone is this or that it is a sign of joblessness. At least pretend you have a job, stop exposing yourself because I know you! |
Johnnyessence and afroniger I heard about a possible comeback of Olagunsoye Oyinlola under the platform of the mumu Coalition of Nigerian Movement Obasanjo cooked up and guess what? To checkmate the influence of the newly rejuvenated PDP in Osun and the Nation altogether please what do you think about this? |
MetaPhysical:I appreciate your analysis but you seemed to be totally out of the loop in this case. Atiku is being monitored by forces working on the orders of Obj and his gang who feels he doesn't deserve to be a President because of payback time to them. Trust me Atiku knew too much about the cabals and those holding us to ransom in this Country. He is a political heavyweight in his home state and still calls the shot but results are always used against him, his influence despite joining APC in 2014 after dumping PDP still tilts the presidential results in Adamawa towards APC. Virtually all the Governors of Adamawa till date still court him. Atiku is a silent mover you have to be in the midst of those who know him for you to be in the know! You need to read this article with an open mind. |
MetaPhysical:I am too sure you did not read the post with an open mind because if you did, you would have seen my clear submission on his "third positions" drama. Atiku of then is not the Atiku of now. Read and understand. |
On Atiku's Corruption Tag Shortly before 2007 Alhaji Atiku had not been tagged a corrupt man but how did he became corrupt overnight? Olusegun Obasanjo, his boss gave him that tag to mess up his political ambitions which many unwary Nigerians had fell for. Obasanjo's allegation of "Atiku is corrupt" have not been substantiated since 2007 when they left office to now. It is instructive to note that, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has a very big problem of human relationship management. He had issues with the five Senate Presidents, some governors, party leaders, associates that served under him. It must be noted that Obasanjo's overbearing attitude and not yielding to superior advises led him to lose the cordial relationship that once existed between him and his erstwhile VP, Alhaji Atiku, whom Obasanjo vowed to deal with and ruin politically for stopping his "Third Term .Agenda" this bold attempt from Atiku to Obasanjo is unAfrican first and unNigerian, hence, "The Atiku Is Corrupt Tag" was launched to tarnish his image politically. Atiku's constitutional role which is assigned to the office of the Vice President is the Chairman, National Economic Council (NEC). According to his portfolio, he is to preside over a meeting made up of the 36 governors of the Federation, CBN Governor, Minister of Finance etc. The National Economic Council plays an advisory role just like National Council of States forum as its decisions or resolutions are not binding on the President who is the chief executive of the country. As important as his roles are, he (Atiku) is not under any power whatsoever to have the final say on decisions taken but everything still ends up at the President's (Obasanjo) table for final decision. Lest we forget, Atiku stood against injustice when he confronted his boss, Obasanjo, on the illegal third term ambition of the Egba Chief yet no one is giving him credit for stopping what would have been a rape of the highest legal framework in the land - Our Constitution! Atiku chaired the Council on Privatization under the acronym, BPE, Bureau of Public Enterprises on the express mandate of President Obasanjo with Nasir el-Rufai, who is the present governor of Kaduna State as Director General based on Alhaji Atiku's recommendation and he was never convicted of any crime in the course of serving. As the Vice President who takes orders from his boss, the President, how could he have outsmarted a bossy and overbearing Obasanjo to become dangerously corrupt as assumed by Obasanjo? Alhaji Atiku has never been named among the ten richest people in Nigeria as far back as i know which is common knowledge. That many former governors and even serving ones are far richer than Atiku is no news, and that many of these governors have been convicted of embezzling and plundering their States into hardship is what we know. Yet since 2007 despite not being convicted if any crimes in any capacity he had served his Fatherland, his former boss, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo had chosen to tag him "corrupt" just to tarnish his political ambitions of governing the Nation as a President in the future. He has been without immunity since 2007 when they left office, why has he not been prosecuted before any competent court of law? I think Nigerians should start asking questions from Atiku's accusers perhaps they know what only angels know about Atiku that we, humans, don't know. Right from 2007 till now Atiku had taken a shot at the Presidency thrice (2007, 2011 and 2015) and there was never a time during thise occasions that corruption charges were brought against his person. The question now is, why now? Another angle to this debate has to do with the successive governments we have paraded since 2007 till date (Yar'adua, Jonathan and Buhari) and up to now, none has deemed it fit to prosecute "corrupt Atiku", because Atiku was never convicted by any competent court of law to be corrupt. The truth is, Obasanjo did all he could to nail Alhaji Atiku at the courts but he (Atiku) was on those occasions declared clean from those charges. At this juncture, I make bold to say that Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, Waziri Adamawa seems the most qualified to fly the PDP flag in 2019 presidential election going by his political experience and business acumen, which will portray efficiency and making a Nigeria that works economically a reality. The Truth Behind Buhari's Cult Following & Atiku's Bright Chance I have come to realise that the hype behind Buhari's overbearing influence in the North is nothing but a myth that had been busted time and again through the polls until he got sympathy votes in 2015 at the Presidential Polls. Let it be noted that the bulk of votes Buhari had in 2003 (12,710,022) under a known and popular party (ANPP) then against a Southerner, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (24,456,140) were garnered more from his base in Northwest but when he was contesting against a fellow Northerner, Musa Yar'adua in 2007 still under the national party, ANPP, Buhari votes plummeted to a disappointing 6,605,299 compared to Yar'adua's 24,638,063 the question now is, what led to the sharp drop in Buhari's votes? One thing, two Northerners were involved, Yar'adua and third placed Atiku, meaning Northern voters are not blind loyalists as widely assumed. In 2011, Buhari contested against a Southerner, Goodluck Jonathan, for the third time under a regional party called Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and he polled 12,214,853 compared to Jonathan's 22,495,187, the surge in Buhari's votes can be attributed to the political tempo in the Country then which favours a Northern candidate over a Southern one (as a result of the sudden death of Yar'adua) but for Jonathan's emergence as the Presidential party of a national and popular party, PDP, he won but the sympathy votes Buhari got from his base in Northwest and partly northeast buoyed by defectors from minor parties swelled his votes. In 2015, it was clear that Jonathan was no longer needed for going against his party's unwritten agreement that a Northern candidate should be picked as the Presidential flagbearer which he flouted coupled with the spate of corruption cases his associates were labelled with which he choose not to confront as a leader and not being proactive enough on the issue of insurgency (especially Boko Haram) up North, all these paved way for an influx of biased and emotional propaganda against his persons and government which finally put a nail to his ambition thereby giving Muhammadu Buhari of the APC a chance to emerge as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with votes totalling 15,424,921 compared to Jonathan's 12,853,162 leaving between them a margin of 2,571,759 to make it the closest in the history of the nation perhaps because it was the first time an incumbent (Jonathan) under a ruling party lost to an opponent from an opposition party. It is crystal clear here that Buhari's 15 million plus votes (a little over his usual 12 million plus votes) were as a result of bloc votes from few North Central and North Eastern States like Kwara, Niger, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno and Yobe. Going by the above calculations, it is instructive that we factor in what lies ahead for a Buhari Presidency versus an Atiku chance at the polls. Buhari's chance seems to be faltering almost on daily basis especially when one consider the likes of prominent Nigerians who once supported him and are instrumental to his victory at the polls in 2015 now giving him disapproval ratings and even advising him to shelf the idea of going for a second term based on his failures in many policies on the economy and brazen attempts at taking Nigeria back to the age of nepotism. The permutation now is if Buhari at his best can manage just 15,424,921 votes what will now be his chance now that his approval ratings keep dropping especially when one consider the fact that 2019 will be a straight battle between two likely Northern candidates which brings to mind a replay of the Yar'adua versus Buhari contest in 2007 where a popular Buhari lost the elections with a little over 6 million votes compared to now that he has been tested and confirmed a failure by many Nigerians especially his contemporaries and former associates like Obasanjo, Junaid Mohammed, Senator Shehu Sannj, Atiku, Dele Momodu, Wole Soyinka, Cardinal 'Bunmi Okogie, Oby Ezekwesili, Rev. fr. Mbaka and many more. Atiku's chance is very high especially when the Northern factor is considered and going by the tension in the land as 2019 approaches. The search for a northern element that will bridge the widening gap between the North and South is needed urgently, this is why Alhaji Atiku remains the only candidate up North that can confront a recalcitrant Buhari or whoever APC is pushing forward as its Presidential candidate ahead of 2019! The Analytical Statistics And Atiku's Projected Masterstroke! I will premise my analysis here on what transpired across the nation in 2015 elections and what may likely unfold in 2019! Niger State for instance had voted PDP from 1999 till 2011. But by 2015, Babangida Aliyu, the then governor, reportedly campaigned for senate with Buhari's image on his posters. In 2015, we saw how most of the former PDP States up North (Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Taraba and Adamawa) going the way of APC as a result of stern resistance from the Northern elements within PDP to stop at all cost a "minority Ijaw Man" the person of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan from re-contesting the 2015 elections. It was reported that a PDP's unwritten rule had stipulated that Presidential candidacy must alternate between a Northern Muslim and Southern Christian which they (the Northern elements) felt Jonathan had breached by trying to go for second term whereby they felt the zoning formula favoured a Northern candidate which led to mass defection of PDP House of Assembly members (which include Senators and House of Representative members) and strong bigwigs to the opposition party, APC, hence, tilting victory towards APC at the Presidential polls this is nothing but the gospel truth on what transpired. Little wonder the margin between Victorious Buhari and vanquished Jonathan was close (2,571,759) unlike what obtains in previous Presidential polls! Atiku's projected master stroke is premised on what can be done to win back the above mentioned PDP's 9 States to his fold and sharing a big percentage (not necessarily winning) of votes in Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna and Jigawa. Going by the 2015 elections as it cuts across the 9 selected PDP States above, it is good we consider Atiku's likely performance in the 2019 projections going by the fact that the ethnic card played against Jonathan being a minority Ijaw man as against the expected Northern candidate his party, PDP, wanted. This time around, it is going to be a North vs North scenario and here we are; (1) Niger State (2015) Buhari (657,678); Jonathan (149,222) Projections: this has been a PDP state right from 1999 till 2011 and it was the ethnic card that worked against Jonathan which gave Buhari (a candidate of an opposition party, APC) a first time lead here in Niger with the battle now between two Northern candidates, your guess is as good as mine. PDP all the way! (2) Bauchi State (2015) Buhari (931,598) Jonathan (86,085) Projections: Bauchi State is a PDP zone that will likely return to the firm grip of PDP in 2019 going by the dissatisfaction of the ruling APC at the centre and weakening of it's party structure within the State. (3) Gombe State (2015) Buhari (361,245) Jonathan (96,873) Projections: it is common knowledge that the Northern elements that left PDP for APC gave Buhari his victory here but with a sitting and action PDP Governor seated here, PDP will definitely carry it by 2019! (4) Plateau State (2015) Buhari (429,140) Jonathan (549,615) Projections: Plateau had always and will always favour PDP and this will be massively repeated and not with a close margin by 2019. (5) Benue State (2015) Buhari (373,961) Jonathan (303,737) Projections: Barnabas Gemade defection from PDP to APC gave APC the victory but with the turnout of PDP's Convention and sudden rejuvenation of the party's structure in the State, and talking about the carnage unleashed on communities within the State by Fulani Herdsmen and with a sitting President who happens to be a Fulani man not taking a strong posture against it definitely Benue will retrace its step back to PDP. (6) Kogi State (2015) Buhari (264,851) Jonathan (149,987) Projections: with a badly damaged sitting Governor's image in an APC controlled State, owing salaries and creating chaotic environment, I see the party structure collapsing and creating the needed chance for PDP to deliver the State to winning ways in 2019! (7) Kwara State (2015) Buhari (302,146) Jonathan (132,602) Projections: Bukola Saraki, current Senate President and the Lion of Kwara politics is presently being victimised and maligned by his party, APC, (he single-handedly delivered Kwara to APC) and being a PDP decampee I don't see Kwara delivering the goods for APC like they did in 2015 again. Saraki will likely work against APC in the State in 2019 (8 ) Taraba State (2015) Buhari (261,326) Jonathan (310,800) Projections: Taraba is PDP and PDP is Taraba, there is no basis for comparison by 2019, Gen T.Y Danjuma (rtd) is in firm grip of the party structure there and it's a no no for APC. Owing to the recent killings of defenceless villagers by Fulani Herdsmen Militias that appears the FG is sympathetic to, I don't see APC making any reasonable votes here. (9) Adamawa State (2015) Buhari (374,701) Jonathan (251,664) Projections: this is no doubt a PDP state but for the 2015 ethnic card within PDP, it fell to APC but with the recent Alhaji's Atiku cross carpeting back to PDP, I am too sure that APC is gone for good in the State as PDP is fully back now! Going by the above projections, it is important to note that Atiku's victory ahead of 2019 lies in him sweeping those 9 States which is definitely a close call for the rejuvenated PDP. The party cannot afford to field a political featherweight against Buhari or whoever APC is going to bring up as its Presidential Flagbearer. |
A Projected Atiku's MasterStroke In Statistical Analyses! That Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, GCON, is currently making waves online and everywhere is no longer news and that the Waziri Adamawa is warming up for Nigeria's highest seat of power come 2019 is also not alien to Nigerians. Alhaji Atiku has been on the journey for the exalted position of 'President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria' since 1993 under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He lost the ticket to Chief M.K.O Abiola after placing third behind second placed Babagana Kingibe. Over the years, he had since evolved into a political heavyweight. The Atiku's Connection! I had thought that Alhaji Atiku stands no chance in future elections after losing out to Yar'Adua in the 2007 Presidential Elections when he came a distant third under the platform of Action Congress (AC) polling 2,637,848 (7.45%) as against PDP's candidate, Yar'Adua's 24,638,063 (69.60%) and Buhari's (ANPP) 6,605,299 (18.66%). Determination in one's dreams and ambitions is a driving force that keeps surging within and keeps the dreams alive, this is what led Atiku to take a plunge again at the next elections in 2011 but he lost at the PDP's Primaries to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan hence he couldn't contest at the elections proper and the same thing repeated itself again at the APC Primaries where Atiku also lost out to Muhammadu Buhari hence missing out at the 2015 Presidential Elections. Alhaji Atiku must have learnt a lesson or two that he actually came out on those occasions he lost at the 'wrong time', this necessitated his calculated attempt now as 2019 beckons that there is no "better time" to offer his service to the Nation as the future President or better still an Aspirant for the exalted position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria than now! Judging from sincere minds, it is generally believed that APC's government under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari and Pastor Osinbajo had failed Nigerians especially in the areas of poverty reduction, power supply, insurgency, positive Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), working economic policies, national unity, fights against corruption, sustainable agriculture, unstable exchange rates, effective industrialisation road map and respect for rule of law. Alhaji Atiku as an outstanding politician, has succeeded in making himself a marketable brand as a result of his True Federalism and Restructuring Campaign stance which is expected to foster trust and encourage oneness among the tribes of Nigeria especially at such a time the Buhari-led administration had sown the seeds of discord among Nigerians through his kids glove approach towards the mindless killings that occurred in Benue, Plateau and Taraba States by the hands of the nomadic but highly sophisticated Fulani Herdsmen Militias which Atiku had condemned the federal Government on . This Marketable Brand in Atiku reverberates across the Country especially among the youths. The youths are the life wire of any economy because they populate the working class and Alhaji Atku had demonstrated a strong nexus between his business empires (that cuts across oil and gas, agriculture, food production, imports and exports, manufacturing and education) and youths employment. I make bold to say that the Waziri Adamawa is one of the few individuals with the largest employees on his payroll in Nigeria and he keeps affecting lives, changing destinies positively through his business empires. The truth is when you have a man of Atiku's calibre at the helm of affairs of Nigeria then such a Country needs not fear the future and feel inferior within the comity of Nations but a brighter future awaits us. He is the type that fields his "Best Eleven" little wonder his many businesses are flourishing and still standing till date. A passionate reader and consummate boardroom man. I am optimistic that in Atiku, Nigeria is about to get it right if eventually Alhaji Atiku makes it to the seat of power come 2019! How Bright Is Atiku's Chance? Nigeria is a dynamic Country of over 170 million populations with a large percentage of politically conscious citizens. It is very certain that 2019 will come as one of the most interesting election year in the history of the Country because of many dynamism that stems from social media, public debates among youths, sensitisation of the minds through write-ups, constant reactions on bad policies of government and insistence on making election counts. Already over 90 political parties have registered through INEC, a sign of distrust on the current ruling party, APC. It is noted that some group of minds have decided that never will they vote back into power either APC or PDP but a totally new party. Some group don't care about the party but the face of the aspirant. Another group prefers the old faces (recycled politicians we are used to) to run for elections. These are the groups that are currently prepared to determine the fate of whoever emerge as President come 2019! Nigeria as we know it plays money politics so it will not be news that on the long run the race may have to be settled between APC and PDP this is where the confusion of many Nigerians emanate from. There is no point deceiving ourselves, I am yet to see any party among the registered party that has the financial muscle, political clout, membership drive and political strategy to wrest power from APC except for the People Democratic Party. Alhaji Atiku is favoured by the last two group of minds (those who care more about the face of the aspirant and those that wants the old faces). Going by this. If Atiku survives the PDP's primaries then it will be a straight battle between whoever APC is fielding, probably Buhari. Definitely, the approval ratings of Buhari is no longer at ease and all what is left is more of window dressing of the state of the economy which is a far cry from the realities on ground. Atiku's chances in the coming elections can be weigh in on the rate at which people are beginning to see his good intentions judging from his National Representation in the area of business and employments. On the social media, his approval ratings keep improving almost on weekly basis and this is not going down well with the ruling APC. Sometimes this year, a call for restructuring was championed by a group of freedom fighters under Nnamdi Kanu, leader, Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and this call was supported by some eminent Nigerians which include; Professor Wole Soyinka, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku and many others. In 2015, the change mantra was chanted and it spread across the North and Southwest of Nigeria leaving out the Southeast and Southsouth indifferent to it. As 2019 approaches, restructuring will definitely be one of the spices that will pep up the tempo of the 2019 elections though not catchy in the core Northwestern States it is however embraced in the Northcentral and partly in northeast which is the needed impetus for Alhaji Atiku to leverage on and use as a launchpad to catch erstwhile lost PDP states within those regions that were hitherto lost to APC in 2015 to his own advantage! |
Very funny set of team indeed. Obasanjo only want things done in his own way. He brought this current mess on us all. He will be firmly resisted! |
ycat:My brother that's the One Million Dollar Question I guess you just can't because Nigerians don't even appreciate him. |
Copied: OBAFEMI AWOLOWO'S ALLOCUTUS STATEMENT BY CHIEF AWOLOWO WHILE BEFORE THE HIGH COURT BEFORE SENTENCING FOR TREASONABLE FELONY SEPTEMBER 11, 1963 I must say, and this may have to be taken up with a higher tribunal, that I do not agree with your Lordship's verdict, and the premises on which it is based. For upwards of 30 years, I have been in politics in Nigeria; during this period I have operated in various important theatres in the life of this great Federation. I have, with others, fought against British imperialism with all my might, and with all the talents that it pleased God to give me. Together with other nationalists, some of whom are with me and many of whom are not with me here, we have successfully thrown out British imperialism and enthroned Africans in positions which, 20 or more years ago, they never dreamt of occupying. I have been an unyielding advocate of a Federal Constitution for Nigeria. I have all along, with other leaders of this country, been a very active and constructive participant in all the constitutional conferences which have taken place since 1953, and which have culminated not only in the attainment of independence but in the production of a Constitution of which Nigerians are very proud. This Constitution is now being gradually violated. I have also fought against anything which savours of injustice. It is thus an irony of history that, as one of the architects of Nigeria's independence, I have spent almost half of Nigeria's three years of independence under one form of confinement or another. Since 1957 I have fought, as your Lordship remarked, with vigour against the feudal system in the Northern Region and for its eradication. I have also fought to prevent the spread of this evil political system to other parts of Nigeria. During the same period I have strongly advocated the breaking up of Northern Region into more states in order to have true federation in Nigeria, to preclude the permanent subservience of the people of Nigeria to the autocratic ruling caste in the North, and to preserve peace and unity in the country. In short, I have always fought for what I believe, without relenting and regardless of consequences to myself. I have no doubt, and I say this without any spirit of immodesty, that in the course of my political career, I have rendered services to this country which historians and the coming generations will certainly regard as imperishable. Naturally, Sir, in the course of my long, turbulent and active political life, I have attracted to myself a sizeable crop of detractors and political adversaries. Similarly, I have in the course of this long career seen both triumphs and set-backs; and I have met them with equal mind. Peter, not Peter the Apostle, but Peter the hero of Hugh Walpole's novel entitled "Fortitude" said: "It isn't life that matters but the courage you bring to it." After life had done terrible things to Peter he heard a voice that said to him, among other things, "Blessed be all sorrow, hardships and endurance that demand courage. Blessed be these things: for of these things cometh the making of a man." In the words of Peter, therefore, my Lord, I declare (not that I have heard a voice): Blessed be your verdict; and I say in advance, blessed be the sentence which your Lordship may pass on me. I personally welcome any sentence you may impose upon me. At this moment my only concern is not for myself, but that my imprisonment might do harm to Nigeria for three reasons. First, the invaluable services which I have hitherto rendered and which I can still render will be lost to the country – at least for a season. Second, there might be a heightening of the present tension which has lasted 15 months, and has done incalculable injuries to the economy of the country. Thirdly, for some time to come, the present twilight of democracy, individual freedom and the rule of law, will change or might change into utter darkness. But after darkness – and this is a commonplace – comes a glorious dawn. It is, therefore, with a brave heart, with confident hope, and with faith in my unalterable destiny, that I go from this twilight into the darkness, unshaken in my trust in the Providence of God that a glorious dawn will come on the morrow. My adversaries might say who am I to think that if I am imprisoned the country might suffer? What if I died? The point, of course, is that I am still alive and will not die in prison. Furthermore, the spirit of man knows no barrier, never dies, and can be projected to any part of the world. This being so I am confident that the ideals of social justice and individual liberty which I hold dear will continue to be projected beyond the prison walls and bars until they are realized in our lifetime. In this connection, I must stress that in this very court room, indeed in this dock and in the entire Federation of Nigeria, the spirit of an new Nigeria is already active and at work. This spirit, working through constitutional means which I have spent the whole of my lifetime to advocate, is sure to prevail, before very long, to the delight, freedom and prosperity of all and sundry. Before I close, I must say that in spite of the delay of the past few weeks on the part of your Lordship in giving judgement in this case, and in spite of my disagreement with your verdict which I have just given expression to, I must acknowledge your Lordship's patience throughout the trial of this case. Particularly, I want to thank your Lordship for the due and especial consideration which you have always accorded me and the other accused persons. I thank your Lordship; and I am prepared to abide by your sentence. THE SENTENCE The Trial Judge Mr. Sowemimo speaks: "….Whatever others may say, this is my personal view. I am not speaking as a judge but as a Nigerian. Here we have one of the first Premiers of the autonomous region standing trial. If you were the only one before me, I would have felt that it was enough for you to have undergone the strain of the trial. I would have asked you to go. But I am sorry, I cannot do so now because my hands are tied. Having sentenced those young chaps whatever happens I have to pass some sort of sentence. If I made up my mind to sentence the other accused persons who I find were tools in the hands of others, and if my conclusion is right, it is for me to see that a punishment by me in my court is such that others would see that there is no preferential treatment. I do not see what useful purpose a sentence of imprisonment will do to you, but I have come to the conclusion that these things emanate from you. To get yourself involved in this thing is enough shame. But this is a political crime. There are things which one may never know. All I know is what is before me and I am bound by the evidence. You mentioned about the delay in giving judgement, but I wish you were in my position and had to read some of these things – the evidence which was about 800 pages and the notes of submissions also about 600 pages. I was never hoping or thinking that I would be called upon to try a former Head of Government and Leader of Opposition. I am only happy that this is a court of first instance. " At the conclusion of the speech by Justice Sowemimo, Chief Awolowo was sentenced as follows: 1st Count – 10 years I.H.L (Imprisonment with Hard Labour) Treasonable felony, contrary to Section 41(b) of the Criminal Code. 2nd Count – 5 years I.H.L (Imprisonment with Hard Labour) Conspiracy to commit a felony, contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal Code. 3rd Count – 2 years I.H.L (Imprisonment with Hard Labour) Conspiracy to effect an unlawful purpose, contrary to Section 518 (6) of the Criminal Code. Sentences to be concurrent." Thanks to Ayo Arannilewa for the above. |
WE CANNOT FORGE AHEAD IF WE ARE GOVERNED BY CULTURE OF HATE Sule Lamido The former Jigawa State Governor, Dr. Sule Lamido CON, said Nigerians made a grievous mistake by electing President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential poll. Lamido, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Presidential aspirant, said Nigeria had never witnessed hatred and bloodshed across ethnic and religious divides since independence as being witnessed under Buhari. Lamido appealed to party leaders to form a strong alliance against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, saying: “We can defeat them easily if we all share the same thought and pains as Nigerians are teeling now”. The former governor said this in Ado Ekiti today during a visit to Governor Ayodele Fayose to confer with him on his presidential aspiration. Lamido lauded Fayose for his courage and criticism of the Buhari’s government, describing the governor’s bravery as an impetus to the country’s fledging democracy and tonic that has been spurring the opposition party ahead of the next year’s general election. “You are a man of courage and a man of character who is able to stand up for the people in spite of intimidation. I respect you, I admire you and like you a lot. “In PDP, we were in power for 16 years, somehow we lost out, we should ask the question, where was Nigeria before PDP? The vision of our founding fathers, like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Aminu Kano , Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa had been that there should be a Nigeria populated by human beings first not tribes, regions or zones. “We cannot forge ahead if we are governed by culture of hate. We are failing today because we have people who are alien to democracy on board. They are exploiting our differences, manipulate our emotions and divided us and gradually turned us into a country where we hate one another . “Fulani, Tiv and Hausa are now killing each other, blood flowing all over Nigeria. God is angry with us in Nigeria. What do we do, the party in power has no political history, only come to divide us, impose culture of hate as intimidation blackmail is the order of the day “If you say your mind, you would be mocked, democracy is freedom of exposure, his govt is for few individuals without political history, our economy is bastardised”, he said. Lampooning the Buhari’s government for failing Nigeria, Lamido added: “I have come to discuss with you about our party and look at Nigeria in 2019. APC is stealing under the cover of anti corruption fight. In Nigeria, the only hope in 2019 is PDP, because APC is a contraption.” Responding, Fayose described Lamido as eminently qualified to be president of Nigeria, saying he remains one of the few detrabilised Fulani leaders with capacity and exposure to deliver. “I am among those that would continue to celebrate your contributions to our country. I believe in Fulani people, every tribe has the good and the bad. You are one of the Fulani men that I know have the abilities to perform”, he said. Fayose advised Nigerians not to vote for any retired military man as president, saying the current experience was suffice to tecah a strong lesson that only a democrat can deliver. “The military bastardised the system, they destroyed this country this is why Nigerians should stop voting military men, they are not politicians. “We lived in this country and grew up to know that everyone from any tribe is our brother but when the government fails, the nation fails. APC have no capacity to lead our country. “Some people say APC will rig election, but I tell them, God rules in the affairs of man. Power belongs only to God almighty. “Whether you call it Presidential or Vice presidential aspiration, all I know that you will come to visit me in Aso Rock in 2019”, Fayose vowed Mansur Ahmed New media aide to Dr. Sule Lamido CON 30/1/2018 |
An Open Letter To Chief Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo. LEAVE US ALONE. Dear Chief (Dr.) Obasanjo, First and foremost, let me congratulate you on the recent conferment of the award of Doctor of Philosophy on you by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). You have by this feat, demonstrated that age is no barrier to academic achievement. I honestly hope you will complete the process by becoming a research fellow somewhere so as to add the title of Prof to your name. Now to the reason for my open letter to you. Let me quickly point out that this letter is a reaction to a similar letter you addressed to President Muhammudu Buhari, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Before anything else, let me apologise for having to employ this methodoly to reaching out to you. As a thorough breed Yoruba man, I am not unaware of the fact that it was wrong to approach an elder in this manner. But going by the fact that you have in the past employed similar method in reaching out to men in high offices, particularly presidents, it then suggest to me that you may see nothing wrong in my action. Second is the fact that I am of the strong view that you expected well-meaning Nigerians, including yours sincerely, to avail themselves with the content of the said letter and possibly react. Although, some were apt to conclude that the real essence was to eke your name in the consciousness of the people. Baba, there is no gain-saying the fact that you possess an outstanding personality and clout, which are very rich and intimidating. However, your greatest challenge, in my opinion, has to do with your nature. Since 1976 when you came to the centre stage of Nigeria's political landscape, you have continued to play the role of a domineering figure. Baba, I must confess that though I admire your grit and gut. However, I also believe that there are times for stock taking, time when one relaxes on the past. But this seem to be unimportant to you, regardless of the status you occupy in the society. I have, and am sure many Nigerians do also, not forgotten how you imposed the Land Use Act on the entire country; the 12, 2/3rd Saga of 1979, which brought in Ex-president, Shehu Shagari adminstration. You became the main beneficiary of the June 12 1993 election cancellation struggle by taking the yoruba slot to become president even though you never identified with the struggle. Baba, may I remind you Sir, that on becoming the president, you worked against every thing Chief Obafemi Awolowo's political dynasty stood for. You rubbished Chief MKO Abiola when you said he was not the messiah to lead Nigeria to the promised land. You not only made your self Leader of the Yoruba, but father of the Nation. Your tenure as president between 1999 to 2007 was a disaster! You appointed advisers you never took their advice thereby wasting public funds through the appointment. You did not improve on housing, infrastructure, road or health. Companies, particularly, banks busied themselves retrenching staff members rather than growing the economy. Baba, during your tenure, Nigeria was living a borrowed life despite the boom in oil sales, Money realised during this period were wasted on electric power achitecture that added no single kilowatt to national grid. Similar fate befell money voted for road construction all over Nigeria. The aviation sector became comatose. You officially liquidated Nigeria Airways, and till you left office, you never saw the need to pay your government commitment to the retrenched staffers of the organization. Indeed, during your tenure, planes were falling off the sky like mangos falling off tree. Baba, do i remind you sir that as Minister of Petroleum, you increased fuel pump price Eleven (11) times, which is the cause of the economic crisis we are still in till today. We the people never gained anything from the windfall from the sale of crude oil, we still await all promises to provide palliatives from your government till today. The only sector that thrived during your era was corruption and this was because you knew those involved would disturb your Imperial ambition of a third term. You set up the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), brought in Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to hound your real and imagined enemies, Baba, the list of your misdeamenour in government are legendary. So, suffice to allow you recall others. But coming home Baba, you knew the health status of ex-president Umar Yar' Adua, yet you imposed him on Nigeria and Nigerians. You never trained nor groomed a successor, because of your life presidential ambition. You could have picked or promoted the candidature of a younger and vibrant Northerner, rather than the sickling Yar'Adua whose eventual demise nearly plunge the country into another war. Baba, rather than allow the People's Democratic Party (PDP) caucus and the party organs choose the vice presidential candidate ahead of the 2007 presidential election, you unilaterally decided on Dr. Good luck Jonathan whom you would later lambast and worked for his fall. Now that you have taken on President Buhari, to me your letter is borne out of mischief and attempt at blackmail, because you have unrestricted access to the Villa than most Nigerians. Thus you could have discussed the content of your reprehensible letter with President Buhari privately and proffer viable solution or even offer to serve in a capacity that will bring about change and improve deliverables from government. As a former president, you are by all stretch of imagination s statesman and should therefore be seen and not heard always. Nigerians want you Sir, to be in the mould of ex-president J. J. Rawlings of Ghana, Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bush, Bill Clinton and recently Barack Obama of the United States of America. They have all act as statesmen in their various countries, they are only seen and not heard, but get across to power, not through ignoble public letters, which you are used to. Going through your letter, you acknowledged that President Buhari administration has been able to curtail insecurity/ Boko Haram and that the fight against corruption was on course, though on a selective basis, that is where you should have come in privately to correct In fairness, Buhari's main campaign thrust was to secure the country, take back all the territory controlled by boko haram, which he has done to the admiration of all Nigerians, including you as confirmed in your letter. Baba, one would have expected you Sir to give examples of how you tackled corruption, the economy, insecurity, unemployment, roads and rural developments and other government deliverables, which are now in place, which the government of the day has destroyed or killed. But your advice to President Buhari that he should take a rest is not anchored on any moral rectitude particularly as you disingenously attempted to enlongate your tenure after the expiration of your mandatory term. Baba, Nigerians have taken a stance as a people, we know what to do when the time comes to vote and do not need to be telly guided. We want to be left alone to decide our destiny, which are in our hands and not in any ones hand. Thank you, Yours faithfully, Wale Ogunade Esq. President, Voters Awareness Initiative. |

Prof. Adeolu Durotoye, the Provost of College of the Social and Management Science, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, is a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State. He spoke on his ambition and agenda for the State of Living Spring. ODUNAYO OGUNMOLA met him. Who is Professor Adeolu Durotoye? Adeolu Durotoye is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations and is presently the Provost of College of Social and Management Sciences, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD). He is also the Chairman of Quality Assurance for ABUAD. I studied Political Science at the University of Lagos where I graduated with a 2nd Class Upper in 1990. I got my Master’s degree from the same university in 1992. I was a German scholar, having studied at the University of Leipzig between 1997 and 2001 where I got my PhD, graduating with Magna Cum Laude. I worked as a journalist with the Guardian newspaper and African Concord magazine. I equally taught politics at different times at the University of Ibadan, University of Toronto and Afe Babalola University. I am a recipient of the prestigious University of Lagos Distinguished Alumni Award in 2005 and Meritorious Service Award of Men’s Missionary Union of Osun Baptist Conference in 2017. I am also a recipient of Utility Teacher Award of Afe Babalola University in 2017. I had the privilege of serving as Chairman, Local Organising Committee of the 2017 edition of Afe Babalola Agricultural Expo as well as Chairman, ABUAD Convocation Committee in quick succession. Where are you from? I mean your hometown, local government areas and senatorial district in Osun State? I am from Osogbo in Osogbo Local Government Area, but I was born in Ede, in Aanu Olu Hospital some 48 years ago. I am from Osogbo, precisely from Ile Amugba, Ibokun Road, Osogbo in Osun Central Senatorial District. Why are you running for the office of Governor of Osun State? I didn’t initially want to run for governor of Osun State. I run a Foundation with my wife called Adeolu and Jane Durotoye Foundation through which we give scholarships to indigent students, providing vocational training for people. We have been providing small business grants to people who are into small businesses, providing eye glasses. We have been doing all these and I thought that we are serving humanity already. But then, when people kept saying look, see the condition of our state, we believe you can help us based on your exposure, based on your experience, industry, hard work and contacts. They say to me that we believe you can bring all that one to bear; I have assessed the situation and I believe there was need to heed their call. Besides that, I have taken time to seek the face of God and God asked me to go ahead so that I will be able to run the state and take it to a better level. We shall bring industry back to Osun, motivate our teachers and the entire workforce to excel, engage our youth productively, rid our roads of potholes, create jobs in every local government area and our farmers will witness a new dawn. What experience qualifies you for the job? I have had the privilege of being part of the think-tank of many presidential candidates. I was part of Choice ’92 when Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi was running; I was part of the think-tank of Hope ’93, MKO Abiola Presidential Campaign. If we keep doing the same thing the same way, we will keep getting the same result. People now know that if you cast your vote for the highest bidder, you have put yourself into the life of penury and poor performance for another four years. I believe that, if we fold our arms because of the cost, someone says what it takes evil to thrive is for good men to keep quiet, I believe those who are well-meaning should come out to know that we must contribute to the resuscitation of our nation. When we see that things are not going the way we expect, we must all contribute our quota. What are those things you plan to do to transform Osun? When I was a student in University of Lagos in the 80s, anytime we came home during holidays, we had holiday jobs at Nigeria Machine Tools Limited (Osogbo), Osogbo Steel Rolling Mills, Obelawo Plastic Industries, Niyi Ibikunle Carpets, Cocoa Industries in Ede, but where are those industries today? And you can’t create jobs without putting industries in place and we are putting industries back into every local government area of Osun. We want to establish industries that can employ at least 5,000 people and we have 30 local government areas in Osun plus one area office, that will give us nothing less than 155,000 jobs in the first couple of months of our administration. We are bringing industries back. We are going to look for alternative source of energy s that these industries can generate energy on their own to run their own business. We are going to give them the technical know-how on how to generate their own energy because how do you run industries where there is no electricity. I was somewhere in Canada, I visited an industry that was generating electricity from cattle dung. Why can’t we do that? We have wind-aided energy. I was in Germany a few weeks ago and they were begging people to put on their light because they were generating energy through wind they cannot consume. So, they had to tell their people that, even if you used energy, you will not pay for using it during that period, but in Nigeria, we used the same method of generating energy and here, electricity is a problem. Lack of electricity and infrastructure are some of the reasons why the ease of doing business is not favourable to us. We must create an enabling environment; investment will come in when we provide an enabling environment and as governor, I will create an enabling environment in terms of infrastructure, in terms of electricity, in terms of security. So, investors will come, each local government area will have a industry that is built around the area in which it has comparative advantage so that each local government area will be able to generate jobs for its people. Equally, let us look at agriculture; I am a farmer. When you plant perishable things and if you can’t sell in one week, it is gone because there are no storage facilities. In each local government area, we will create processing facilities in which people will preserve their products, facilities that can turn tomato to tomato paste, pepper to paste, turn orange to orange juice, turn banana to banana juice, turn mango to mango juice so that farmers will not lose their produce having worked so hard. Equally, we will provide train services to assist our farmers to market whatever they cannot sell locally to sell in places like Lagos and other parts of the country where they can sell some of their products. In the area of education, unfortunately, Osun’s performance in WAEC, 29 out of 36 is unacceptable. I am an educationist and in that area, we must be able to ensure that we turn around the sector. What about teachers? What about the students? If teachers are not motivated, schools will not be schools; we will motivate our teachers, we will train them and ensure that they are paid on time and exposed to international standards if doing things. We will have unified exams, our students will prepare for WAEC from SS2; we will know where they are lacking so that we prepare them to perform well in WAEC and other public examinations. Salaries will be paid on time, workers will be motivated, they will be promoted when they are due for promotion. Those whose employment have not been regularised, we will regularise it. What about pensioners? I was trained by pensioners; my father retired in 1984 and I was not even in the university when he retired. My elder siblings were in higher institutions, but if pensioners were not paid as and when due at that time, how would I be able to go to school? Pensions will be paid on time and workers’ welfare are given priority. Our workers deserve more than what they are getting at present. Equally, we will encourage small businesses’ in the western world, small businesses make those environments thick. We will encourage small businesses to thrive. How do you hope to generate revenue to depend less on allocations from the Federation Account to run the state and still meet the needs of the people? Before you can talk of generating revenue, you need to open the economy to build industries and create jobs. Like I told you, we are going to create industries in our local government areas. I can tell you that presently, I work with Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD). ABUAD is the largest payer of tax in Ekiti State; so if you create jobs, definitely you will generate IGR but it is unfair to tell people to pay tax when they are not being paid or when there is no job. So, we will create jobs, bring industries to the state and generate money through that means. We have genuine strategies for generating funds, we will not let the cat out of the bag now. We will raise funds in a way that is citizens friendly and won’t be a burden on people and we will be able to generate money to able to run government. Do you believe that your party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the capacity and wherewithal to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) from government in the Osun 2018 governorship election? I believe so absolutely that it is possible to sack the APC from the Okefia Government House. You saw what happened in the Osun West senatorial election; out of ten local government areas, APC barely won one and that tells you that people are yearning for a better change in the state. I can tell you that the next election is for PDP to take; once we put our house in order, I can assure you that the PDP will form the next government in Osun State and by the grace of God, I, Adeolu Durotoye, will be the next Governor of Osun State. What are the other areas you hope to make the difference when you assume the reins of governance? We will make difference in terms of how we treat our civil servants, they deserve their wage on time, they deserve more than what they are getting now, they deserve to be better exposed to global standards of doing things. In the western clime, teachers are well-paid. We will give that job the dignity it deserves when we train the trainers by exposing our teachers to global standards of teaching, we also ensure that we bring commerce back to the state. We will make Osun, the ICT headquarters of Nigeria; we will make Osun what Silicon Valley is to the United States. Silicon Valley in San Jose, California, you see a how knowledge is used to drive the economy through Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and the likes. Mark Zuckerberg, the Founder of Facebook, didn’t just come to Nigeria for fun. He knows that we have the potentials here and we will bring ICT to Osun and ensure that Osun becomes the headquarters of ICT in Nigeria. Our mission is to create an enabling environment for everyone to excel; our visio is to make Osun what the state of California is to America. What is you final message to the people of Osun State as the 2018 governorship election beckons? The people of Osun State deserve more than what they are getting now; they must ensure that they vote wisely. Number one, they must get their voters’ cards because the exercise is still on. They must get their cards and must not sell their votes. If you sell your votes, you will impoverish yourselves for the next four years. Don’t sell your vote; vote for the candidate who has the exposure, who has the experience, the technical know-how, who has the education, who has the capacity, the youthfulness, the energy to get the job done and that candidate is Prof. Adeolu Durotoye. http://thenationonlineng.net/want-succeed-aregbesola-don/
