All passengers have been banned from carrying Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on any airline flying from Dubai airports.

The devices are banned from FlyDubai, Etihad Airways and Emirates, effective immediately.

Dubai Airports has advised passengers not to bring the devices to the airport as they will be confiscated before boarding.

"In light of advisories from various aviation regulatory bodies and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, passengers are advised that these devices are prohibited on all flights leaving Dubai International and DWC," it said.


On Sunday, Etihad said guests could not carry the smartphones in their checked in baggage, cabin baggage, or on their person.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused. However, the safety and security of our passengers and staff is of the utmost importance," the airline said on Twitter.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, Abu Dhabi Airports said it advised passengers to check with their airline to see if they could carry their Galaxy Note 7 smartphone.


Last month, the General Civil Aviation Authority banned the use of the devices aboard all flights operated by national airlines due to concerns over faulty lithium batteries, the state news agency Wam reported.

More than 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones were recalled in October after unexplained fires and overheating problems.

The phone was discontinued last week just two months after its launch in August.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said there were 96 reports of batteries in Note 7 phones overheating, including 23 new reports since the first recall.

The company received 13 reports of burns and 47 reports of property damage associated with the phones.

"Consumers should immediately stop using and power down all Galaxy Note 7 devices, including Note 7 devices received as replacements in the previous recall," the commission said.

A couple of days ago, the news broke that 21 of the kidnapped Chibok girls had been freed. The deal was reportedly brokered by the Red Cross International Committee and the Swiss government. They were exchanged with four high profile Boko Haram terrorists, says the government. Of course, there was celebration in many quarters.

I received the news with mixed feelings. Mixed feelings because, on one hand, I was happy that these girls got to experience freedom again and on the other hand, sad for the others, who are being held against their will, and subjected to whatever conditions their captors deem fit.

Over 250 girls were captured. 57 reportedly escaped. Few were allegedly killed. And now, the government negotiated the release of just 21. Maybe it's just me, but with the way this is looking, they might be the only ones freed by this administration.

Why were only 21 girls released? Why wasn't the negotiation for all of them? They are human beings not batches of products. What if efforts are not made to release the other hundreds? This release if true,has raised the hopes of other parents, that they would see their daughters again. What if that doesn't happen?What if the other girls would be indefinitely used by Boko Haram as leverage to keep terrorising this country?

I think that the Federal Government should put plans in place to secure the release of all of the girls at once. Meanwhile, we are yet to hear from any of the parents or even from Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili.

This is not the first time that some Chibok girls allegedly found their freedom. Going through news platforms, a lot of Nigerians do not believe that those girls are really who the government said that they are, what with the release in batches like seen with NYSC mobilization. But this is hoping that these ones are truly some of the girls kidnapped over two years ago and not a government staged drama.

Negotiating with terrorists doesn't usually end well. Especially terrorists that see their 'colleagues' as expendable. What if they don't care about the exchange of their members anymore? Would the FG just sit around as usual, waiting for a miracle? We all heard about the arms deal saga. I think that these girls would be rescued, everyone of them at once, if our armed forces were better equipped to do so.We hope that a day would come, and soon, when all the surviving girls, would be taken away from their captors and this term, Boko Haram, would be a thing of the past.

It's become a very regular thing, to read the news and see stories about men raping young girls and even children. It's starting to look like a normal occurrence in our society, and nobody seems to care, except those directly affected of course.

When most of them are caught, they either blame it on the devil or on their victim's choice of dressing.

Granted,we are usually addressed the way we dress, but it can't be an excuse for one to force themselves on their fellow human. It is a violation of human right. And it's even more heartbreaking when a child is involved.

Rape is evil, and should not be encouraged, no matter the circumstances. Yeah, because some people are guilty of this. Saying things like, 'She deserved it by wearing something skimpy' or 'She deserved it by going to a guy's house.'

Slut shaming a rape victim, is another reason we hear different cases everyday. Several people are of the opinion that it's only loose girls that get rape. The resulting stigmatization is what makes many victims unable to talk about their experiences, giving those that violated them the upper hand, and the temerity to keep forcing themselves on people.

Maybe when people stop giving excuses for rape, the rate at which this particular crime is being perpetuated will drastically reduce.

We have got to stop these unnecessary blame games and call a spade by its name. What is wrong is wrong.

The best way to sell products and services is to add as much information about them as is possible. Pages and pages and pages, videos and images. It’s true that 79% of people won’t read it all, but 16% read everything! That 16% is your main target group.

If one reads all of the product info and is not convinced yet, you have a problem. But if one is convinced after reading just 1/4, they can skip the rest and just complete the purchase right away. Up to 50% of potential sales are lost due to inadequate information, says International Data Corporation, a global research company.

You need to provide enough information so that the prospect could convince themselves

Most Nigerians who have seen popular comic actor, John Okafor, aka Mr. Ibu, in action will agree that he is a talented comedian and one of a few Nollywood practitioners that are naturally cut out for the roles that they play in the movies.

Okafor has, so far, been able to prove to his fans that he does not only live by making other people to laugh away their sorrows; he is also humour personified.

But the actor, in an interview with our correspondent, also reveals that despite his commitment to making people to laugh, he has had cause to be unhappy, even bitter, on some occasions.


On one of such, Okafor had an axe to grind with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba. He was so bitter that he almost instituted a court action against the management of the hospital.

Recounting what happened, he says, “The matter was actually between the Paediatric Department of the hospital and me. It was in 2011. My wife and our two-year-old son had been kidnapped. After I paid the ransom demanded and they were released by the kidnappers, I returned to Lagos from Enugu.

“Then on January 18, 2011, my son fell ill. He was diagnosed with inflammation of the liver. The hospital suggested that he should be scanned. At the same time, I was informed that I could take my son out of the hospital to get the scan done elsewhere. But the same people later declined, saying that everything had to be done in the hospital because he was too weak to be taken outside.

“After a while, I was told that there was no electricity in the hospital. When I asked if there was no standby generator, they said there was no fuel in it. I offered to pay for fuel only to be told that the man that operated the generator was not around. When I left the place and got back later, the man still had not returned. Then I was advised to write an application and to submit to the admin department.”

After writing the application, Okafor found that there was nobody to receive and treat it. While he was waiting, he was told that his son’s condition required blood transfusion. The actor did everything possible to ensure that the ailing boy was given treatment at the hospital, but his efforts were in vain. Finally, the little boy gave up the ghost.

“That was how my son died. Later, one of the doctors came to me and, without even sympathising with me, asked if I could release my boy’s corpse to him so that they could cut it open and use it to teach other medical students. In that moment, I felt like committing murder for the first time in my life.

“When I told my lawyer what happened at the hospital, he was shocked. He said it was actionable. I told him that I was ready to take the hospital management to court and sue it for $100 million in damages because my son’s death was caused by the carelessness of the professionals whose duty was to save his life. But my lawyer advised me to let go”.

Reflecting on his career, Okafor says he has been publicly embarrassed by fans at different times and in several places. “I quickly forgive them because I was the one that looked for trouble in the first place. On one occasion, somebody came to me and said, ‘Ibu, because of what your jokes have done to me and my family, I promised God that anywhere I meet you, I would slap your face.’ I told him them to go ahead. Then he slapped me so hard that I couldn’t see clearly for two hours,” he says.

Mr. Ibu obviously relishes his status as a popular and relatively comfortable Nollywood actor. It is doubtful that, given a choice, he would have given up acting for any other career. Going down memory lane, the actor reveals that he used to be a boxer and a Karate practitioner. Admitting that only a few people are aware of this aspect of his personal history, he says, “I practised Shotokan Karate for 16 years and I was a member of the Karate Federation of Nigeria. I happen to be the first instructor that was teaching Karate in federal government colleges in Nigeria.”

The actor, no doubt, cuts the picture of a man enjoying a blissful marriage. But, asked if he ever had a girlfriend before he got married, he replied, “I had problems with my relationships with women. Each time I had a new girlfriend, other men would always take her from me. Whenever I fell in love with a girl, somebody would snatch her from me. But I don’t fear any sense of loss because I married the best woman on earth. My wife is a former beauty queen. She was the winner of the 2004 Face of Imo beauty pageant.”

But Okafor says that even now that he is happily married, women have not stopped coming to him for a date. “I don’t woo them, though. They are the ones chasing me. That is part of the price I have to pay for being popular.”

Hair raising footage from Russia shows a group of teenagers atop a high bridge setting themselves on fire and then jumping into the murky waters below in the name of getting more likes on social media.

The unusual stunt happened in the south-western Russian city of Penza where two videos of the teenagers launching themselves from the bridge were shared online.

Police have released footage of a man who is believed to have set fire to a Scottish Muslim woman's sleeve while she was shopping in New York.

The victim, named in media reports as Nemariq Al-Hinai, 35, from Glasgow, was assaulted on Midtown Manhattan's Fifth Avenue at 8.58pm on Saturday night.

She was looking through the windows of designer clothes store Valentino after getting off a tourist bus when she 'felt something warm on her left arm and noticed her blouse was on fire'.

Nemariq patted out the fire and observed a male standing next to her with a lighter in his hand before he fled the scene.

Nemariq, thought to be a dentist working in Hamilton, South Lanarksire, refused medical attention at the scene.

Police confirmed there had been no arrests but released a video of the prime suspect walking down the street.
