totalgreen01:Sure, we are in Nigeria, bro. Good to know you're into RC planes. Can you share more on the batteries you build? (Size, capacity, weight..) I may want something from you soon. Also share the specs of the plane you use for your long range flight. The FPV rig is of particular interest to me. Thank you. |
victorigwe:You've answered none of all the questions I have asked. Instead of making stuff clearer, you confuse them the more. I have no further questions, bro. Good luck in your innovations. |
Below are pictures of a 330mm quad made from discarded PCB. On this frame, I used an F4 flight controller and also installed an HD camera. I am yet to have a test flight but if this flies well, I intend using it for AP from heights up to 800m.

Oga, what's the biggest tire size available on 15" Rim for 2000 model Toyota Camry? |
So I found a flying club in Abuja! I've always thought I'd never fly fixed wings due to there space requirements but I might just have a change of heart after seeing these guys in action. They've got mostly fixed wings and some are quite fast! The chairman also has a jet powered plane. I hope I'll see it fly someday. |
Lipo batteries for RC applications. 3S, 2S 25/30C. 5000mah 4200mah 3000mah 2200mah... |
Yakmoh:Okay... I will contact you. |
The site is not working, chief. IP not found.
|
Yakmoh:I'm in! |
AussiePlayboy:So how old are you now? A lot of people have told you what I wanted to tell you which is the fact that success is relative. Go and learn the meaning of success then come and read this your post again. |
Hello... It's been a while and a whole lot has happened. I've been flying the 220mm frame on iNav all these while and it's been great. Only limiting factor is battery. I presently have just one battery (3300mah) for this size of frame. On PTP hover, it stays in the air for an average of 17 minutes. I planned and completed a 1km mission and didn't run out of juice. I've upgraded my Transmitter to a Taranis and configured telemetry. Now, I get real-time flight info like battery level, altitude and GPS coordinates. I am getting a new HD camera for aerial photography soon. For that, I will begin working on a new frame based on the designs I shared in the previous post. Questions are always welcome |
Available for sale... F3 and F4 flight controllers Lipo batteries.. |
Still available.... |
Firmware upgraded to ER9X with more features. DJT module increases range to at least 1.5km (well beyond LOS) |
Available for sale.. Turnigy 9X Transmitter (DJT module and ER firmware installed). Package includes compatible 8 CH Receiver (V8FR-II receiver with failsafe) 1000kv brushless motors also available.

victorigwe:My brother, this your design b GA a lot of questions. How do you bring it back if you can't control it? Or it's supposed to just fly away?!! |

Hello again! I've been off the skies since my last flight; I killed a ESC while testing a feature in my backyard (kinda small area so ...) I'll do all test flights in the field from now on. Unfortunately, I got only 4 of that particular ESC so no spare. I've since placed an order but will have to wait at least 20 days to receive them. Meanwhile, I thought about ways to further reduce cost of this project for anyone interested. I've tried a number of materials but the best so far is circuit boards... Large ones. It takes a lot of work but the results are splendid and well worth the effort. The only issue is the weight. The model I just completed weights 500g already! I'll find a way to reduce weight further though. I'll get the one I made now to fly on my old stuff and see how well it performs. See pictures below..

RichysPro:That particular deal is long gone, bro. There strict restrictions on shipping of Lipo batteries so I usually buy what's available (Turnigy, Zippy, other Chinese brands) If you're not brand specific, I could help you fetch them. You'll need to provide more details (C rating, Plug type, etc). Let me know if you're interested. Cheers! |
RichysPro:Welcome, chief. There isn't any EDF threads (at least none here on NL that I'm aware of) but you could start up one. Lack of flying spots is the major reason I do not want to venture into fixed wings RC. I've seen a number of guys put together a plane here and there on the internet but no real thread (again, as far as I know). But don't let these deter you. You can start it yourself. There are tons of guides available online. Welcome once again |
brendan007:Thanks, bro. Here's a short video while I was testing the Return To Home (RTH) feature. I was going to do a mission but birds in the area kept diving on the quad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQNeLbwPlmA |
brendan007:Thanks, bro. I tried Waypoints today and it was really cool. I drew a mission on Google map and the Quadcopter followed the path. So iNAV build is done. Next is videos. Truth is I am yet to make any cool video cos I go flying all by myself. Next weekend, I will get a friend to accompany me. Videos are usually too large for NL. I intend putting them on my YouTube channel.

RCDIY:The iNAV build is complete. Actually had it flying 2 weeks ago but had a nasty crash due to incorrect magnetometer operations. I got it repaired and eventually tested today. Return To Home (RTH) works like a charm. Also Position Hold (PH) is quite accurate. GPS was picking over 15 satellites. I will perform a Waypoint mission next.

UPDATE Batteries - Sold Flight controllers (kk2.1, Naze32 F1, Naze32 F3) ESCs (20A, 30A SimonK Fw) Brushless Motors (1000kv, 920kv) Frames (X525, ZMR250, F330, F450) Still available... |
So, it's been 2 weeks. I was unable to post any updates due to tedious schedules... We also welcomed our daughter to the world! After a successful test flight, I ignorantly proceeded with WAYPOINT MISSION. The result? A nasty crash. I was lucky to recover the craft in bits and pieces. An integrity test of all components confirmed none was killed. The frame and the battery, however, took the hit. Further research taught me I needed to get the magnetometer working perfectly, try out POSHLD and RTH before attempting WP. It took me a while to put it back together and adjust the GPS till magnetometer worked ok. I had a test flight earlier and the results were awesome. I have only one good battery now. I will check out WP once I've recharged.

Chief, please provide quote for 205 65/15 to Abuja. Thank you |
RCDIY:All done. The build is complete. For special lighting effect, I added a programmable RGB led strip. I installed an FPV camera and VTX too. During bench test, I was unable to get solid GPS lock so FC couldn't arm. I will try outdoors tomorrow. Hopefully, we'll run as expected
|
billyG:Lol... It's funny, right? Its actually funnier that you don't know what 'central lock' is in your car. |
DJIUAV:Thanks! |
Motors installed. Flight controller mounted. ESCs fixed, upgraded and tested.
|
RCDIY:The ESCs and FC have been received. I also got a PDB but I won't be needing it on this frame since it has a PDB already. There isn't a 5v output on it but the ESCs have 5v available so that settles it. I just finished some soldering. I will install the motors next.
