Thank you, how I wish other people are asking questions like this just to be enlightened instead of criticizing what they dont know. to your question, we muslims beleive in the teachings of all prophets from adam to mohammed, this includes all prophets in-between, abraham is one of the most respected prophets in islam, the Quran directed us to commemorate his dedication to God, the fact that he is willing 2 sacrifice his only child before he was given the ram, it is a sign of utmost trust and beleive, it is to remind us to have a strong beleive and trust in God, the kind of beleive abraham has. i will like 2 also tell u that the spot where people go 2 in mecca was created by abraham, God directed him 2 call people to come and worship in that spot, the place was a complete desert and not a single soul could hear his voice, but God promise him that billions of people will come for generations, he beleived and made the call, going to that spot to worship is now one of the pillars of islam, compulsory for every muslim who has the financial ability. the ram sacrifice was mark the end of the hajj (the visits to the holy place), it is also for those who can afford it. on why we dont burn it, the quran did not teach us to do so, instead, the ram is to be share into 3 equal parts, 1 part to be eaten by the person who killed it and his/her family, one part to be shared to friends and family who came to celebrate the eid with them or to greet them, and the third part to be shared to neighbours and friends who did not come and those that do not have the financial mean to kill any thing, its a way of giving to the poor and remembering them. although nowadays not every1 follows this sharing method. i will also want to inform you that the meat is 2 be shared to every friends and neighbours following the method above irrespective of their religious beliefs. you cant jump anybody unless they refuse 2 accept, it is also improper for any muslim to reject the meat if he was offered even if he kill his own, the only thing he can do is to offer his own too to the person who gave him, that is why you find various families exchanging sallah meat, this builds friendship and relationships, if u have witnessed several sallah in your area you can attest to this. its a period when people ends grudges.
