Gbawe:
My brother, you must understand that Jonathan speaks like this as a weak leader innately given to dereliction of his Presidential duty and shying away from tough decisions.

State Police forces will still be under the federal Republic of Nigeria so kini big deal as far as federal might exercising effective control over all Police forces in Nigeria? . Do Governors not currently use the Police force partisanly in their State anyway? Why deny serious Governors like Amaechi and Fashola the right to develop a modern police outfit that can cope effectively with the peculiar security challenges of their State? Must everyone continue to pay for the mediocrity, gradualism and lack of ambition of poor administrators like GEJ?

If GEJ is committed to delivering strong instititutions (and the appointment of Ringim is clue he is not) he will focus more on how any abuse will simply be checked effectively by the centre. Jonathan is a man who does not want 'wahala' and this is why he preempts event by thinking the worst rather than be the sort of proactive leader who can birth reform, innovation and take bravely radical yet necessary decisions . This is entirely defeatist from GEJ but not unexpected .
was wondering the same thing.
what are they really afraid of here? they need to tell us the truth.

Achebe, Igbo abroad honour Ojukwu, make souvenir
on DECEMBER 2, 2011 · in SPECIAL REPORT

Literary icon Prof Chinua Achebe has promised to roll out some of the most sophisticated insights on Biafra and Ojukwu and his role in Biafra as a benefitting tribute to the ex Biafran leader.

In a statement through his son Chidi to Saturday Vanguard, the message said, “We must be patient and wait for Prof Achebe’s new book There was a country: A personal history of Biafra which you will see contains some of the most sophisticated analysis and insights on Biafra, Ojukwu and his role in Biafra. I can think of no more fitting tribute than telling the truth about Biafra for posterity.”

Indeed, the three great personalities of the war had met at the Chinua Achebe Colloquium last year. They were Ojukwu, Achebe described as the most articulate of the civil war and Wole Soyinka who was jailed in Nigeria for negotiating peace with Biafra by then head of state Gen Yakubu Gowon.

In the United Kingdom, and elsewhere, memorial websites have been opened for Ojukwu. One of the sites is in the UK listing areas necessary for the memorial, its links to news on Ojukwu and Igbo among others.

In the USA, Prof. Olu Oguibe one the most influential artists and art historians from Africa, has designed a memorabilia for Ojukwu and is on sale on eBay. On his facebook wall, Oguibe wrote, “ I’ve just made these for those who’d like to wear our pride and grief on the sleeve! Wish I could make them more special, but I’m way too busy at the moment with deadlines and last minute changes to God’s Transistor Radio. Buttons are available now on eBay for those living in the contiguous US. For compatriots and friends elsewhere (Nigerians, Biafrans, Africans, Others), hopefully you can find one where you live.”
Also on Facebook, several groups doing one thing or another have come up, all displaying Ojukwu and his life or using the Biafra images. In fact, many African and Nigerian websites are abuzz with accounts and news of Ojukwu. It is perhaps the biggest thing on the internet today.

so the world started in 1982? lol

your brother could have struck a deal with the assassin to even help the assassin kill you and share your properties after your death (like abiola and obasanjo helped the north foil awolowo's election). your brother stood firm and rejected the offer (like Ojukwu did) . he could have died trying to save you. he didn't run away. he remained faithful to you until death. few humans have such brothers.
igbo and easterners were lucky to have such a brother.

some of you just refuse to say the truth about what ojukwu stood for. you would rather fly this "ONE NIGERIA" nonsense without addressing anything ojukwu wanted addressed in nigeria. you think you can make a nation by lying to yourselves and everybody. i'm sorry we igbo don't think like that. the issues we raised in Aburi in january 1967 remain unaddress in december 2011. anyone who thinks nigeria will ever be one without addressing those issues is a big foool.

let me show you how stoopid your question is.
one day an assassin came to your house and swore that you must die that day.
you were almost dead when suddenly your brother showed up with a superior gun and chased away the assassin.
now my question to you.
would you be alive today if not for your brother that saved you? no is the answer. who can ever do anything greater than that for you? even money could not save you that day.
end of discussion

As usual people have ignored the larger lesson of History, focusing instead on unimportant minutea.

What did we fight for in 1967, do we have it now?

Is this country even defined? What is our national ideology, what makes a Nigerian, a Nigerian?

Why should any of the ethnic nationalities choose this Country over say Cameroon, or Benin or Niger?

What is the purpose of our collective association within this particular space? Why are we together?

What did 1M+ people die for in the Civil War?

Do we have it now?
the most important question which remain unanswered after 1967. this is 2011. it is still unanswered and people keep deceiving themselves

On 6 July 1967, Gowon declared war and attacked Biafra

when gowon reneged on aburi accord and declared war, ojukwu's belief in nigeria died as those of millions of igbos.
are there igbos who still believe in nigeria? yes, but are they up to 5%, i doubt it. if you doubt, ask them to choose in a referendum. if you get less than 95% yes, let it be considered a failure.
the best honor to ojukwu is to wrap him in a biafran flag and bury him. end of discussion.

you don't get it, do you? this isn't about losing elections. I was trying to expose Biafrans who keep lying that Ojukwu hates Nigeria and would be insulted by state burial. STOP misrepresenting Ojukwu gademit!! If you said Achebe would be insulted by state burial, I would agree with you. But Ojukwu? hell no! Ojukwu who didn't feel insulted when he was collecting pension from Nigerian army, why the hell would he be insulted by state burial? undecided undecided
lol, it is you that don't get it.
yes, ojukwu spoke in riddles a lot since he returned from exile. he was conscious that there are people in nigeria who wanted him dead. so he was careful until much later when he figured "what the hell" and dared obasanjo to try arresting him. ojukwu is not the type to drop a conviction. he was a "SCORPIO" (horoscope). go and read about people of this sign. all the remaining part of his life was spent indirectly mocking nigeria's insincerity. even that pension thing was part of it. remember, he wanted to receive a general's pay? do you think it was because he needed the money? NO it was to prove that the "no victor, no vanquised" thing was a huge joke. gowon promoted himself during the war and recieved his pension. ojukwu would not be allowed to do the same.
you are not igbo, that is why you cannot understand the power of speaking in riddles. it is one of the most powerful weapons elders use in igboland.

why not acknowledge what the article by a foreigner is saying, which is basically the truth? who has been vindicated by history according to what the article said? stop all these local yard talk. ndigbo don't care what anyone thinks anymore.

Did someone say saboteurs in the south-south? Did we ask the igbos to drag the minorities into the seccession plan and biafra?
nobody asked anyone in the east to be targeted and murdered in the north which forced many of our people to run to the east. It was a collective decision by easterners through the eastern house of assembly to declare biafra. some of the leaders of the fight were people from your area (akwa-ibom). there were saboteurs everywhere including igboland.
the more some of you try to isolate the biafran struggle as igbo struggle, the less others believe you. if you doubt me, just wait until there is another war in nigeria, (which is almost certain going by the way things are going). we (ndigbo) would be more concerned with ourselves. if ever we do anything with minorities in ss , they have to lead it.

PoliticsRe: Senate Rejects State Burial For Ojukwu by realchange: 8:26pm On Dec 02, 2011
the same reason why ojukwu lost the election is the reason why awo lost. the same reason is why olu falae or any afenifere or awoist kind of politician would loose too. these are people who know the truth about nigeria and would change it if given the chance. it would never happen. that is why a thief like obasanjo won instead.

I think Ojukwu would have wanted a state burial knowing his flamboyant personality and how vain he is. He seriously craved Nigerian honor, unlike Chinua Achebe. Remember that Ojukwu sought the highest honor in Nigeria when he ran for the highest office of President in 2003. So people saying he wouldn't want it are just deceiving themselves, we don't believe you.
you don't know Ojukwu, that is why you are saying this
Ojukwu wanted to prove to nigerians that they are lying to themselves about nigeria being one, that is why he ran. he knew he (or any igbo) would never win.
most of the time ojukwu spoke in riddles. he would say things like "awolowo is the best president nigeria never had", knowing fully well that awolowo never believed in nigeria himself. so how can you be president of what you never believed in as awo did? so, you see. nigerians are lying to themselves. i bet you that is why a lot of people in nigeria don't understand ojukwu.
Ojukwus belief in nigeria died in 1967.
