Politics / Re: You Are On The Right Track – Peter Obi To Gov-makinde by recievesense: 5:20am On Feb 06, 2020
akelicious:
The Vice-Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi has commended Gov. Seyi Makinde on his eight months of purposeful and focused leadership, urging him to keep it up. Obi was speaking yesterday during his keynote address at the retreat for members of the Oyo state Government in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Obi who noted that Gov. Makinde has deployed his private sector experience in governance said he was happy that he was succeeding. “My interaction with the people really shows that you are on the right track”, Obi said.

Obi who said he was happy that Governor Makinde was focusing on three key indices of measuring Human Development Indices - Education, Health and Economy, encouraged the EXCO to key into his vision. “I am happy the way things are going. Gov. Makinde is the driver of the vehicle taking you all to the destination. You duty is to cooperate with him so that the vehicle will safely reach the destination”. Obi advised.

Emphasizing the importance of communication in governance, Obi charged the EXCO members to always tell the Governor the truth and to make sure bad news is promptly brought to his attention because such news needed attention and may make things worse if not brought to the Governor’s attention.

The retreat witnessed interactive session, where Obi freely exchanged his experience with the EXCO members.

In his own speech, Gov. Makinde thanked Obi for coming. He said they were happy to have him as a leading light in Nigeria today. He said the urge to share experiences with him was borne out of his successful tenure as the Governor of Anambra State.

Politics / Re: US Senate Finds Trump Not Guilty Of Abuse Of Power, Obstruction Of Justice by recievesense: 10:49pm On Feb 05, 2020
Gertyman:
(CNN) The Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump on two articles of impeachment Wednesday, marking the inevitable and historic end to a bitterly fought, divisive impeachment trial that will reverberate into the 2020 election and shape Trump's presidential legacy.

But the final day of the Senate's impeachment trial was not without suspense: Sen. Mitt Romney, a Utah Republican, found the President guilty of abuse of power, becoming the first senator in US history to vote to remove from office a president from the same party.
LIVE UPDATES: Impeachment trial of President Trump

The third Senate impeachment trial of a sitting president in US history concluded Wednesday afternoon with votes finding the President not guilty of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, the impeachment articles the House charged Trump with in December. Romney was the sole Republican to vote to convict the President on the first article of impeachment, abuse of power, joining with all Senate Democrats in a 52-48 not guilty vote. Romney voted with Republicans against the obstruction of Congress charge, which fell along straight party lines, 53-47 for acquittal.
The acquittal verdict was the final act of a four-month impeachment that inflamed the partisan tensions simmering throughout the course of the Trump administration, tensions that boiled over during the State of the Union even though Trump left impeachment out of his speech. While Wednesday's vote marks the end of the formal impeachment process, Trump and his Democratic detractors are sure to take up the fight over the ultimate significance of the President's impeachment as the presidential campaign heats up.

Though Trump is likely to claim victory and vindication with the Senate's vote, Romney's vote denies him a purely partisan outcome on impeachment. Every Democrat, including fence-sitters like Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, voted to convict the President, meaning the acquittal vote was not bipartisan like it was in the House.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose icy exchanges with Trump during the State of the Union only underscored the acrimony of the impeachment process, has been quick to remind Trump he's now been "impeached for life" by the House. Democrats have dismissed the Senate trial as a cover-up for the President after Senate Republicans refused to consider new and important evidence.
The ultimate impact of Trump's impeachment will remain murky until November, when voters will have their say on whether an impeached President will receive a second term.

In his Senate floor speech announcing his vote, Romney choked up while explaining how his faith helped guide him to what he described as "the most difficult decision I have ever faced."

"Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one's oath of office that I can imagine," Romney said in explaining his vote.

The groundwork for the third impeachment of a US president began in September when Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry following an anonymous whistleblower complaint alleging Trump sought election help from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a July 2019 phone call. The House's whirlwind investigation that followed uncovered a months-long effort in which Trump and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani pressured Ukraine to announce investigations into the President's political rivals while $400 million in US security aid to Ukraine and a White House meeting were withheld.

The House voted to impeach the President on two articles in December, backed by all but two Democrats. Republican-turned independent Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan also voted in favor. Every Republican voted against it, and one of the Democrats who joined them in opposition, Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey, switched parties soon after.

Senate trial focused on witnesses

In the Senate, Democrats knew the votes were never there to remove the President. So they focused their efforts on pushing for the trial to include testimony from witnesses and subpoenaing documents that the White House blocked during the House's impeachment inquiry.
The witness vote would be closely contested, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell included a request from his moderates in the trial rules to have a vote whether witnesses should be called after opening arguments and senator questions.
The week of the vote, a bomb was dropped on Republicans working to defeat the witness vote — new revelations from the draft book manuscript of former national security adviser John Bolton alleging the President told Bolton US aid was conditioned on Ukraine announcing investigations into Democrats.

The revelations upended the Republican efforts to lock up votes to defeat the motion for witnesses, and Democrats argued that Bolton's claims and willingness to testify required the Senate to hear from him. McConnell urged his caucus to "take a deep breath." Republicans warned that calling Bolton could spark unintended consequences and an indefinite extension of the trial that had ground the Senate to a halt, while the President's attorneys told senators that what Bolton alleged, if true, still did not constitute an impeachable offense.

Two Republicans, Romney and Susan Collins of Maine, signaled they would support witnesses. A third, Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, was on the fence. But the potential key swing vote, Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, was convinced by the Republican argument, concluding the House proved its case but it didn't warrant impeachment.

"The question then is not whether the President did it, but whether the United States Senate or the American people should decide what to do about what he did," Alexander said Wednesday explaining his vote.
Murkowski also sided with Alexander, leading to a 49-51 vote against witnesses on Friday. She said she believed that all sides failed in the impeachment process: the House, the Senate and the President.
After the failed witness vote, the trial was headed to a quick end, and the two sides reached their only agreement of the trial: the trial would break for the weekend and the final vote would come Wednesday after closing arguments and three days of senator speeches to explain their votes.

'For all of history'
In closing arguments on Monday, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the lead impeachment manager, urged senators to consider history as they cast votes of guilty and not guilty. The outcome may have been certain but not every vote had been accounted for.

"If you find that the House has proved its case and still vote to acquit, your name will be tied to his with a cord of steel and for all of history," Schiff said. "But if you find the courage to stand up to him, to speak the awful truth to his rank falsehood, your place will be among the Davids who took on Goliath. If only you will say enough."

One by one, however, the Republicans who may have been on the fence about voting to convict the President said they would render a verdict of not guilty — until Romney's announcement on Wednesday.

"Were I to ignore the evidence that has been presented, and disregard what I believe my oath and the Constitution demands of me for the sake of a partisan end, it
would, I fear, expose my character to history's rebuke and the censure of my own conscience," Romney said.

Democrats praised Romney for standing up to his party, but the backlash was swift in Republican circles. Romney's GOP Senate colleagues said they were disappointed, downplaying the significance of his vote, while the President's son Donald Trump Jr. called for Romney to be expelled from the Republican Party.

Among Democrats, the impeachment managers' case convinced any wavering senators that Trump's actions did not warrant removal. The biggest Democratic wildcard was Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who said all week he was struggling with the decision. But both Manchin and Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama, the most vulnerable Senate Democrat up for reelection in 2020, said they reluctantly voted guilty.

"I cannot and will not shrink from my duty to defend the constitution and to do impartial justice," Jones said.
This story has been updated with additional developments Wednesday.

Ok.....so you've sent me articles from the Radical Leftist New York Times that does not attempt to hide their hatred and bias against Trump?

I had asked you to tell me which lies he told for which he should be impeached, but your article was not specific.

One of the things your article said is that "No one believes Trump". That statement alone shows me that the New York Times is so far Left that they are now out of touch with reality. So no one believes Trump, but he promised he was going to bring back jobs while Obama was campaigning and ridiculing him saying "what magic wand does Trump have to bring back those jobs he claims he will bring back"? And today we know the American economy is at its strongest in many decades. Unemployment is the lowest in 50years and unemployment for Black Americans is at its lowest in history. Trump said he will build the wall, and we have all seen videos of the border wall being built even though it's not going as fast as Trump may want cos Congress is deliberately trying to starve the project of funding.

So all these promises from Trump were lies?? And you mean to tell me no one believes Trump, but his campaign rallies are always packed full even to overflow whereas Joe Biden and other Democrats struggle to fill a 5,000 capacity venue in their campaigns?? You obviously haven't been seeing Trump's rallies, and that is why you can deceive yourself to come and say no one believes Trump. If Trump was the liar that New York Times and CNN claim he is, why then is his popularity increasing?

In case, you are not aware, Trump's favourability among black Americans as at December 2019 was at 34.5% according to Rasmussen poll......up from 8% in 2016. You need to ask yourself how come more people keep joining a man that the media has been calling a liar for 3years if that man is who the media said he was

Travel / Re: The Real Reason US Suspends Immigrant Travel Visas On Nigerians. by recievesense: 12:12pm On Feb 05, 2020
This is perfectly true!
post=86391152:

It has little or nothing to do with Boko Haram,
has nothing to do with Buhari,
has nothing to do with arrest and detention of journalist, has nothing to do with Nigeria’s ban on gays and lesbian, but has everything to do with absence of a workable system in our identification and verification processes.

The main reason Nigeria is suspended from Immigrant visas category is because Nigeria does not have a credible background investigation system that groups like Interpol can rely on to vert and certify originality.

What that means is that if someone commits a crime in Lagos and relocates to Kano, there’s no system that can be used to track crimes and people across state lines.

Virtually all African countries have such systems even Ghana has it, Cameroun everyone has original birth certificates but nigeria prefers to have multiple identity cards not because they are interested in monitoring and tracking people but because they want to make money. Our country is a transaction society, you can buy anything even the human conscience.

Most responsible modern states in the world have tracking systems, but nigeria does not.
A typical example, if you are about 40 years,
if you go to your primary school to get your records they don’t have it.
Principals and headmasters do not have computers in the 21st century.

Now only states that are considered rogue nations or failed states that do not have workable systems.
Most nations in this category are nations at war.
Nigeria is not at war but the irresponsible nature of our government from the beginning till now makes Nigeria a war zone.

Now, back to US suspension, let us make it clear that only Immigrants visas are affected.
Non immigrant visas are not affected.
An immigrant visas is a type of visa that allows you to stay, work or even become a US citizen after you travel.

This category involves the type of visa you get when you marry an American citizen and have to relocate or the type of visas given to parents when their American citizens file for them or the visa you get through lottery.

Another category of visa affected is birth visas,
these are medical tourism visas to come to America and have a baby.
It is those categories of visas that are affected. Some waivers do apply.
However, non immigrant visas like visitors or business visas are not affected, however going forward it will be difficult to get.

What America is saying is that we cannot continue to give immigrant visas to your people if our investigators have no tools to work with to verify the true identity of your immigrant populations.

Example, someone who wins lottery or marries a US citizen, the investigators will want to check him up to primary school, but we have no records.
Our government should be ashamed that we do not have a reliable working system to track Nigerians instead of deceiving the people to assume it is unfair what US has done.

All our previous and present government should be ashamed that today we are grouped with countries like Eritrea and Sudan.
A sensible country, what they should be doing now is to put such a system in place.
Last year, two of our American friends visited Nigeria and came back with Nigerian international passports.
That can never happen in Ghana or even Liberia.
But with money you can buy a man's conscience in Nigeria.

With as little as three to five hundred dollars people are ready to subvert the law and do the unthinkable.
With just Ten thousand Naira anyone can get local governments origin letters, worst still, today traders who never stepped their legs in universities are given degrees and people even serve youth service with fake results.
If you are America will you continue to give immigrant visas to a country you cannot verify a simple certificate?
If you are America will you continue to give citizenship to immigrants whose entire documents for relocation to your country may have been forged?

We forge ID cards, we forge bank statements to get visas, we forge birth certificates, we forge marriage certificates, we forge election results, what is it that we do not forge?

We should not blame the US, the truth is we have failed as a nation.
May God help our darling country.
God bless Nigeria.

Cc,
Justwise,
DisGuy.

If u have an immigrant visa filed for u, all u need to clear your criminal history is to pay N5,000.00 to N25,000.00 (depending on location) to State CID to do a finger print report for the embassy processing. This does not tell the US consulate the individual criminal history. If the Nigerian Government can pass a law that every immigrant application must pass a DSS screening then i guess the USA will lift the ban.
