Telecommunication giants and South African Mobile Company, MTN , has reportedly accepted to pay N1.04 trillion fine slammed on it last week by the telecoms regulatory authority, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). This follows series of meeting held between MTN management team from South Africa and Nigeria with the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. The telecoms operator which has largest subscriber base in Nigeria, it was gathered, may have agreed to pay the fine to sustain the interest of its telecoms business. The Source said “There have been series of meeting at the Presidency between the Vice President Osinbajo and MTN team both from South Africa and the Nigerian arm. MTN wanted a waiver considering their level of investments in the country, but government did not buy the idea of waiver. Instead, I think there will be concession, but certainly not a waiver. At the conclusion of the meeting, the MTN people negotiated on how to stagger the payment. The Presidency is even angry because MTN was a signatory to the regulation, but they are failing to comply with rules.” NCC were outspoken when it said that MTN would not escape the fine, owing to the enormity of its implication to national security. Although NCC had hinted that the issue is being handled by the federal government, the telecoms authority also noted that MTN would risk withdrawal of its licence if it fails to comply with the fine. http://www.naijadefined.com/2015/11/mtn-agree-to-pay-n104-trillion-fine-by.html |

According to Manica Post newspaper,Titus Maposa,a 38 year old Zimbabwean has been jailed for forwarding a joke on Mugabe to all his neighbors. Maposa's neighbours sent the text message to the police and he was arrested. The offending joke was a message falsely attributed to Ecocash, Zimbabwe's mobile money transfer scheme, which said the president had deposited $1 500 (R20 745) into their account. The newspaper said the message read: "Ecocash Transfer Confirmation: 1,500 US from Robert Gabriel Mugabe. Thank you for supporting ZANU-PF." Maposa was being charged under a section of Zimbabwe's Postal and Telecommunications Act prohibiting the sending of messages the sender "knows to be false." The report said Maposa insisted he did not mean to make his neighbours "anxious or nervous". "I was intending to share a social media joke," he said. Although Maposa was not being prosecuted under Zimbabwe's infamous anti-insult laws, it remains a crime to insult Mugabe, who has been in power since 1980. Arrests are frequently reported under these laws, often for comments made on social media site. http://www.naijadefined.com/2015/10/zimbabwean-arrested-for-sending.html |

The invaders reportedly shot six people, five men and a woman as well as burnt shops, vehicles before they were overpowered by their colleagues from Enugu State. Our Sources told Us that some of the police invaders abandoned their AK47 riffles and uniforms when they were confronted by their colleagues from Enugu State. Among the MOPOL officers whose uniforms were recovered by the Police Area Command Office in Nsukka included those of Corporal Enemona Itodo with Force number 433524; Usman Sani (number 414615) and Amos Abutu (number 356905) The Chairman of Etteh Youths Association, EYA, Mr. Hycinth Agada confirmed the attack and expressed worry that some policemen would leave their duty posts in Lokoja to carry out illegal duties of burning the property of those they were paid to protect in Enugu State. Agada said that, “the Area Commander had come to Etteh to address our people on the shooting of Sunday Idoko in the classroom when the policemen came back in a Toyota Hilux vehicle and started firing guns towards our direction. Earlier, they had shot Gilbert Onu on his right hand, while Damian Ijiga was shot on the head at a beer palour at Ette Market Square at about 7.30p.m. on Tuesday. “We want the Inspector General of Police, IGP, to investigate this matter and find out who sent the policemen from Lokoja to attack us in our homes in Enugu State.” However, armed policemen were patrolling the area at the time of this report. Etteh community has not known peace in the last five years following agitation by some youths that the area be merged with Kogi State. The member representing Igboeze North 11 Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly is Tony Ogidi from Etteh. The area which has three major tribes including Igbo, Igala and Idoma was said to have been merged with the defunct Eastern Nigeria from the Northern Nigeria in 1954 after a plebiscite conducted by the colonialists. But, while some Igala youths from Ette had been agitating to be merged with Kogi State, majority of the Igbo and Idoma residents had opposed the move resulting in closure of schools, courts, churches and other government offices in the last five years until two months ago when peace was brokered and some schools re-opened. The last population census and INEC registration of voters did not take place in Etteh following the alleged violent activities of the Kogi agitators which started after a Supreme Court judgement which threw out their suit on the issue. It has been over five years since actress Monalisa Chinda and her ex- hubby, Segun Dejo-Richards, broke up. Dejo-Richards has gone ahead to remarry but Mona, as she is popularly called has remained single http://www.naijadefined.com/2015/10/monalisa-chinda-discusses-her-beef-with.html?m=1 In a chat with Saturday Beats recently, the actress said she is still open to marriage and opened up on the challenge she deals with as a single mum: "Motherhood has been very lovely but being a single mother has been very challenging. There is a huge difference between being a mother and being a single mom. "When you are a single mom, you have to do everything yourself, you have to be the mother, father, driver, teacher, name it. If you don’t have a help, you have to switch on the generator, drop and pick the child from school; it is crazy. You have to help her with her homework and if I have to travel, I would have to bribe my secretary to stay in my house for some nights so that she can help my daughter with her homework. "It is a lot of mental work. I have got used to it and if I don’t take care of my daughter, nobody will do it for me. "I love the whole concept and idea of love. I am open to love and marriage that would work. Marriage is always a better option and I love to be loved. I hope to have more children because I had always wanted to have three children. Three is just perfect but it depends. I can never go back to my ex-husband but we maintain a cordial relationship because he is the father of my child. He speaks to his child whenever he wants to" Addressing the rumours of beef between herself and Rita Dominic, Monalisa added: "Rita Dominic and I are not at loggerheads. We just drifted apart and she is still my sister. We went to the same school. I do not think that anybody should have a permanent enemy or a permanent friend. As you grow up in this big industry, your interests start to differ and that is just what happened." |
