Politics › Zamfara APC: Maintain Status Quo, No Candidate For Elections - Appeal Court by References(op):
Contrary to widespread speculations, the Zamfara APC will not field candidates for the National Assembly, Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections. This is following as separate Appeal Court judgements failed to invalidate the judgment of Justice Ijeoma of the FHC, Abuja affirming INEC's stance that the primaries indeed did not take place......

The Court of Appeal,Sokoto:

The Court of Appeal in Sokoto has dismissed an appeal against the judgment of a Zamfara State High Court asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for various offices in Zamfara State.

The judgment returns the parties to the status quo before the appeal court’s decision.

The federal high court’s judgment which stopped the party from participating in the elections has not been set aside while the judgment of a Zamfara State High Court which asked INEC to recognize the party’s candidates for the election also subsists.

A three-member panel of judges unanimously dismissed the appeal following its withdrawal by the appellant, Aminu Jaji.
INEC has earlier insisted it would not recognise the Zamfara candidates who were produced after the stipulated time for the primaries.

The electoral body also maintained its position following conflicting judgments on the matter by a high court of Zamfara and federal high court on the same day.

Politics › Rivers APC: Supreme Court Strikes Out Three Other Pending Appeals by References(op): 3:28pm On Feb 12, 2019
The hope of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field candidates for the upcoming general election was dashed on Tuesday at the Supreme Court as the apex court struck out an the appeal by the party against a High Court judgement barring it from the polls.

The court in a judgement delivered in the main appeal on the contentious issue that emanated from the congresses and primary elections of the party in Rivers, held that the appeal of the APC was status barred.

In a unanimous judgement delivered by Justice Amir Sanusi, the Apex Court agreed with the respondents led by Ibrahim Umar, that the suit was a pre-election matter and that the appeal filed by the APC was done outside the 14 days required by law.

The Supreme Court consequently struck out the appeal for being status barred and having becoming an academic exercise.

Justice Sanusi announced that reasons for the judgement would be available in three months time.

Counsel to the APC, Lateef Fagbemi SAN had on Monday argued that the suit that brought the appeal was not a preelection matter.

His contention was that those who instituted the suit at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt had no locus standi to have done so because they were not governorship aspirant.

Umar and 22 others believed to be loyal to Senator Magnus Abbe had filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to challenge their unlawful exclusion by the Rotimi Amaechi faction of the APC from participating in the Congresses of the party designed to produce delegates for the primary elections.
Justice Chiwendu of the Federal High Court had in his judgement upheld the claims of the group and barred the APC from proceeding withonduct of the congresses and the primary election.

The APC however went ahead with the primary election and later appealed against the decision of the trial court at the Port Harcourt division of the Court of Appeal.

At this stage, the Rotimi Amaechi faction led by Tonye Cole, sought to join the suit but were refused by the Appellate Court on the grounds that they were not parties at the trial court.

This prompted the group to approach the Supreme Court to reverse the decision.

The Supreme Court however in its judgement insisted that the matter was a preelection matter and that the appeal was filed out of time.

Delivering ruling in three other related appeals involving Tonye Cole, Justice Amina Augie struck out the three consolidated appeals on the grounds that the appellants “have no legs to stand upon”.

Justice Augie said from available records the appellants were not parties at the trial Court as well as the court of Appeal and as such cannot get remedy from the Supreme Court.

With the striking out of APC’s appeal it is now clear that the party cannot field candidates for the National Assembly Elections coming up this Saturday and the governorship and State House of Assembly Election, slated by the Independent National Electoral Commission for March 2.

CreepyBlackpool:
When the white men invaded our lands, they destroyed our shrines and killed our priests. Because nothing happened to them, it was seen as superiority of their god over those of our ancestors and thus, our ancestors deserted their gods and worshipped the god of the white men.

The destruction of churches and killing of men of God by muslims should also be seen as superiority of Allah over Jehovah.
So every christian should abandon christianity and join Islam

Crime › Herdsmen Kill Parishioners In Benue; Seek Death Of Businessman by References(op): 12:45pm On Feb 09, 2019
The alleged killing of Rev Father Joseph Gor, Felix Tyolaha, and other dedicated members of St Ignatius Quasi Parish, Ukpor, Mbalom in Gwer West Local Government Council of Benue have been condemned by Christian agencies across Nigeria.

A statement by its Director of Communications, Rev Fr Moses Lorapuu, said that the attacks were perpetrated by herdsmen who stormed the Mbalom community, killed parishioners during the morning mass at the church.

Presently the church is in search of some of their prominent businessmen and missionaries who are the major sponsors of activities in the church, allegedly on the death roll of the invading herdsmen.

We gathered that Victor Nwankwo, Silvester Okowa and three others were suspected to be targeted at, during the early morning bloodbath by Fulani herdsmen. These men according to reports are the major benefactors of the Catholic Church development in Benue state. They herdsmen allegedly claim that Victor Nwankwo and his four colleagues was amongst the missionaries that converted hundreds of Muslims to Christians.

According to investigations, Victor Nwankwo and his fellow missionaries are yet to be found as they have become a search agenda in the list of Africa’s most dreaded insurgent group.

The Diocese expressed regret at the nonchalant attitude of the security agencies in containing the killings. It said the herdsmen, who stormed the community, burnt down houses, destroyed crops and killed people. The church, therefore, urged the relevant authorities to stop the killings in the Benue valley.

Rev.Lorapuu said the Diocese had been active in providing food and relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) since the onset of hostilities in the state and wondered why it could be marked as a target of attacks. “The attack on the priests is an attack on everything that we ever stood for and believed in,” says Lorapuu. Meanwhile, concerted efforts to get reaction from the Benue Police Command failed as its Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, was not forthcoming with remarks. Rev. Fr. Gor had before the attack written on Facebook; “Living in fear. The fulani herdsmen are still around us in Mbalom. They refuse to go. They still go grazing around us. No weapons to defend ourselves”. Herdsmen in the early hours of the morning attacked a Catholic Church and parishioners who went for 5.30 a.m. mass. Reports say the bodies of the dead have been taken to St. Theresa’s Hospital Makurdi.
