Crime › Borno: Thousands Flee Homes As Insurgents Attack - Daily Trust by References(op): 10:26pm On Feb 22, 2019
Thousands of residents on Friday fled from their homes as Boko Haram terrorists attacked a community near Maiduguri in Jere local government area of Borno state, a resident told Daily Trust.

The resident, Abu Shuaibu, said the insurgents stormed the Zabbamari town, some 10 kilometres away from Maiduguri, Borno state capital, shooting sporadically and killing many civilians as well as burnt down many houses.

“The insurgents came around 5:30pm and they were engaged by soldier but unfortunately they overpowered troops.

“We are currently in Gongolo village, many people were killed but thousands are fleeing to Maiduguri as I am speaking with you.

“The soldiers tried but they told us that their bullets have finished; so, we fled together; Boko Haram are currently there now,” said Abu.

It will be recalled that Zabbamari village, which inhabits about 50,000 residents, is a rice community in Jere LGA.

Effort by our reporter to get official comments from the military’s Theatre Command’s Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Ado Isa, wasn’t successful as he didn’t pick calls made to his mobile line.

However, residents in Maiduguri claimed they saw military troops heading towards the village currently under insurgents’ attack.

Politics › Imo APC: Setback As Court Stops Two Candidates from tomorrow's elections by References(op): 8:05am On Feb 22, 2019
The All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday suffered another setback in Imo State, following the decisions of two separate courts to stop two of its candidates from tomorrow’s polls.

While Justice C. J. Ringim of Federal High Court 2, Owerri, stopped Obinna Mbata from running for the Owerri Federal Constituency, Justice Bello Kawu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, equally barred Deacon Chike Okafor from contesting for Okigwe South Federal Constituency.

According to the judgment made available to Vanguard in Owerri, Justice Kawu handed down the order on Okafor, following a suit filed by Mrs. Uzoma Chioma Maryann, against the APC and two others, which urged the Court to declare the primary election conducted for the federal constituency as “unconstitutional, illegal, null, void and of no effect”.

Delivering his judgment on the matter, Kawu held that the APC did not conduct any primary election for the House of Representative seat for Okigwe South constituency and should not be allowed to field a candidate for the office.

He said that having considered the case of the plaintiff and all authorities cited by the learned counsel, the Court was of the strong view that the question that calls for determination by the Court, was whether proper procedure was followed for selection or nomination of the second defendant (Okafor), as a candidate of the first defendant (APC) for Okigwe South federal constituency.

Justice Kawu noted that the defendants did not show any appearance nor were they represented by counsel, even as he frowned that the defendants did not deem it fit to file counter affidavit, a development he said, “was admission to the averments”.

“It is therefore my declaration that the final report of the Electoral Appeal Panel, which recommended the nomination and submission of the second defendant’s name as the House of Representatives candidate of the first defendant for Okigwe South federal constituency of Imo State, is inappropriate, unlawful, null and void for failure to comply with the first defendant’s guidelines for nomination of candidates”, Justice Kawu held.

The Court therefore restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from further recognizing, accepting or listing the name of the second defendant as the candidate of APC in the 2019 ballot paper for Okigwe South federal constituency, because the APC did not conduct primary election for the office.

In a related development, the Federal High Court sitting in Owerri, sacked Mbata and ordered that Tony Umezuruike to used as a replacement for the Owerri federal constituency seat.

Justice Ringim ruled that Umuzuruike is the candidate, having won the legitimate highest number of votes shown by evidence, during the primaries, against the name of the person earlier submitted.

Politics › Okigwe South: Court Bars INEC From Accepting APC Candidate by References(op): 9:47am On Feb 21, 2019
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has barred Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or listing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ehime/Mbano/Ihitte Uboma Federal Constituency (Okigwe South) in Imo State,in the rescheduled February 23, National Assembly election.

The development sealed the hope of the APC of fielding any candidate for Okigwe South as the spate of losses suffered by the party continues unabated. This followed similar losses in Zamfara and Rivers states.

Justice Bello Kawu dashed the hope of the party when he declared as unconstitutional, illegal, null and void the primary election conducted for the federal constituency.

A House of Representatives aspirant, Mrs. Uzoma Chioma Ann, had filed a suit against the APC and two others, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, in the Bwari Judicial Division holden at Kubwa, Abuja, before Justice Kawu, seeking the nullification of the nomination of Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, as its candidate for the Okigwe South Federal Constituency, in Saturday’s elections. She claimed Nwajiuba’s emergence violated the party’s rules and guidelines.

Also joined as defendants in the suit were the APC and the INEC, as first and third defendants, respectively.

In his ruling, Justice Kawu cited various authorities and concluded that Nwajiuba’s nomination was “inappropriate, unlawful, null and void for failure to comply with the first defendants guideline for nomination of candidate.”

He also barred INEC “from further recognising, accepting or listing the second defendant’s name as the candidate of the first defendant in the 2019 ballot paper for Okigwe South House of Representatives election because the first defendant (APC) did not conduct primary for the office.”

Justice Kawu further held that having considered the case of the plaintiff and all authorities cited by the learned counsel, he was of the strong view that the question that calls for determination by the court was whether proper procedure was followed for selection or nomination of the second defendant as a candidate of the first defendant for Okigwe South Federal Constituency.

The court, which cited relevant sections of the Electoral Act 2010(as amended) and the APC constitution, said notwithstanding the provision of the Act or rules of political party, “an aspirant who complains that any of the provisions of the Act and the guideline of a political party has not been complied with in the selection or nomination of a political party for election, may apply to the Federal High Court as or the High Court of a state for redress.”

However, Nwajiuba, a lawyer and former lawmaker, had sensed and cited that the legal land mines had smartly left the party to pick the ticket of the Accord Party on which he is presently running, while the incumbent representative of Okigwe South, Chike Okafor, took up the ticket after another controversial primaries.

Politics › Buhari Directs INEC To declare doctored results - PDP by References(op): 6:26pm On Feb 20, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wednesday, said it has uncovered an alleged directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to issue out results sheets to the ruling APC agents to falsify and declare results in favour of the APC.

It also alleged that the INEC chairman, Yakubu Mahmood has succumbed to back channel bullying by the Buhari Presidency.

PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the PDP legacy House in Abuja.
He said the meeting where the directive was issued was in Buhari/APC situation room in the presidential Villa last night.

In his words, “At the meeting, Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, the Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mustapha Boss, among others, were in attendance, Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) were directed to issue out result sheets to APC agents to falsify and declare results in favour of the APC.

“Intelligence at our disposal reveals that the INEC Chairman has succumbed to back channel bullying by the Buhari Presidency and APC to accede to their demand to replace Electoral Officers (EOs) in various critical states with APC agents who will vehemently execute President Buhari’s rigging plans in the February 23, Presidential election.

"Also our party has full details of how the Department of State Services (DSS) has been interfering with operations of critical departments of INEC, including the ICT department, to do APC bidding.

“The PDP also has details of the meeting last night by President Buhari, some APC northern governor and Service Chiefs last night, whereupon pressure was mounted on the Service Chiefs in connection with the APC rigging plans.

“We alert Nigerians that the INEC Chairman has been intimidated with threat of ‘Onnoghen’s treatment’ to accept a list of APC members and agents and post them to serve as EOs in various states including Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, Bauchi, Akwa-Ibom, Zamfara, Benue, Sokoto, Lagos, Plateau, Taraba, Borno, Adamawa, Kogi, Delta, Ebonyi among others”.

Ologbondiyan revealed that electoral officers have been briefed to ensure the diversion of sensitive electoral materials from designated polling centers, delay the accreditation process, so as to frustrate voters’ enthusiasm.

Further, he said the electoral officers have also been directed to compromise the collation process, allocate and announce fictitious results for President Buhari and muddle up the process to pave way for result cancellation where it becomes impossible to rig for President Buhari.

He added, “The PDP stands with Nigerians in directly rejecting this latest arm-twisting of security agencies as well as the nefarious plots to use APC members as INEC Election Officers.

"It is now clearer that the election day killing order issued by President Buhari is designed to clamp-down and even kill patriotic Nigerians who will want to confront and stop the APC from executing their rigging plots on the day of election.

“However, the PDP, in clear terms, assures INEC, compromised security agents and President Buhari that their evil plans will definitely come to naught.

“Nigerians are now, more than ever before, determined in rallying with our party, to confront, resist and stop President Buhari and the APC on their trail to rig the February 23 election.

“Nigerians in their millions, across the 176,000 polling units and voting points, have been placed on readiness for this election and nobody can rig them out”.

Politics › Kano: Mosques, Markets Targeted For Bomb Attack, Foreign Observers Allege by References(op): 5:01pm On Feb 20, 2019
A team of foreign observers under the aegis of the Pan African Women Project International Observers have raised the alarm over classified information of a planned bomb attack on selected targets in Kano.

The observers said they received emails from a source they did not make public, that a mosque and popular market were being targeted for the attack ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Publicity Secretary of the group, Ms. Mphoeue Keitseng, who hails from Botswana, said this at a joint press conference with their local partners in Kano, late on Tuesday.

The group also noted that from their interactions with stakeholders across Nigeria, they observed that the late release of funds to the Independent National Electoral Commission played a substantial role in events which led to the postponement if the elections.

Keitseng said, “Following our consultations with various stakeholders with regard to the recent postponement of Nigeria’s 2019 elections, the following are our observations:

“We have observed that the Nigerian government did not release funds to INEC on time, which resulted in supplies not being made for the production of materials for the elections. For instance, many observer groups up till now are yet to receive their accreditation tags, jackets and caps.

"Secondly, the state (Kano) as you see today is generally quiet, but there is classified information that reached us this evening.

“Please, note a planned bomb explosion in some sensitive locations in Kano by political thugs. These include: a general mosque and a popular market.

“We use this medium to speak to the Nigerian government to beef up security in all public areas such as mosques, churches and markets.

"Lastly, from the press briefing held in Abuja, which we attended, many sensitive materials as at this moment, have arrived INEC offices. However, we look forward to a successful 2019 elections.”

In response to a question as to how they came to the conclusion that funds were not released to INEC on time, she said, “The suppliers told us that they were only given deposits for the materials last month — January.”

Asked if the group has shared the security information with relevant Nigerian security agencies, the Head of the Mission, a Nigerian, Dr. Uben Udensi, said, “We just came into Kano, we intend to do so.

The group also urged the Nigerian government and all other stakeholders to take steps to ensure that Saturday’s polls are free, fair and credible.

Politics › Jittery State Government Mobilises Civil Servants For Votes by References(op): 4:05pm On Feb 20, 2019
In what looks like a last minute effort to ensure total victory in next Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Niger State, the state government on Tuesday held a marathon meeting with heads of agencies and parastatals, permanent secretaries and directors at the Government House in Minna.

The meeting, our correspondent gathered was held behind closed doors; it was presided over by the Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso.

Also in attendance were the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Isah Ladan; Head of Service, Mallam Yabagy Sule and other top APC stalwarts in the state.

The meeting had just one agenda: to seek the support and cooperation of top civil servants in Saturday’s elections to ensure total victory for all APC candidates.

The deputy governor told attendees that they were expected to go back to their constituencies to help woo the electorate to vote for the APC.

They were, however, disappointed when the deputy governor made them realise that the government had no money to give them in form of mobilisation as the government was merely asking for their co-operation.

A source at the meeting told our correspondent that the meeting was informed by the recent development that the party is at the verge of losing the election on Saturday.

“The government asked us to go back to our various local government areas and mobilise the people for the elections on Saturday but they are saying that they have no money.

“So what are we going to tell the people if there is no money to mobilise them. Certainly, nobody will listen to us.”

According to our source, the government was told at the meeting that in the alternative, civil servants should be paid their February salaries as a way to pacifying them.

“What we told them was that in the alternative the government should try and pay February salaries before Saturday so that people can be happy at least.”

But the deputy governor was said to have told them that it was not possible for the government to pay salaries before the 24th of the month, and therefore ruled out the option.

The meeting also has the Minister of Defence, Dan Mansur-Ali, Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, the Director General of Department of State Service (DSS) Yusuf Bichi and some other security heads in attendance.

The State Governors at the meeting who are mostly from the north include the Borno State, Kashim Shettina, Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, and Adamawa State, Jubrila Bindow. Also present is the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha. The agenda of the meeting was yet unknown but it may not be unconnected with the alleged killing in a Kaduna community at the eve of the botched Presidential and National Assembly elections and the perhaps the forthcoming elections.

Politics › Just In: Atiku Never Offered $1m bribe to Adamawa REC - INEC by References(op): 11:42am On Feb 19, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission says the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, never offered the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa State, Kashim Gaidam, $1m or a house in Dubai.

INEC said this in a Facebook post while reacting to social media rumours that Atiku had compromised the Adamawa elections.

A report which trended on social media on Monday read in part, “Breaking News: I rejected Atiku’s $1m bribe plus a house in Dubai- Adamawa REC”.

While responding to the post, however, INEC wrote, “The Adamawa INEC REC completely dissociates himself from the allegation that he had an offer of $1m and a house in Dubai as no offer whatsoever was ever made to him by anyone.”

The INEC REC, who threatened court action against those behind the news, emphasised that he had never met Atiku in his life.

“I’ve never had any contact with Atiku all my life. I can state without fear of contradiction that Atiku probably does not know how I look, because I’ve never met him personally, all my life. I was shocked to read what was credited to me by some unscrupulous persons,” he said.

Politics › Amaechi: Wike Is Benefitting From His Political Misjudgments- Abe by References(op): 10:49pm On Feb 17, 2019
The Senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, has said that Governor Nyesom Wike was benefiting from the political blunders committed by the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi in the state.

Abe, who was reacting to allegations by Amaechi, that he (Abe) was responsible for the crisis in the party, called on Amaechi, who is leader of APC in the state to swallow his pride and accept responsibility of his actions that plunged the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State into the present crisis.

He said: “Amaechi talks about how he contributed to 80 per cent of Rivers politicians but he has never mentioned to Nigerians what 80 per cent of Rivers politicians contributed to him to make him what he is today. If he made everybody, what did God do? “Nigerians should ask who is working for Wike, it is the problem Amaechi foisted on APC that Wike is benefiting from, his political blunders made him Wike’s greatest benefactor. “When this crisis started, we tried to draw his attention but he refused. We were telling him that if this crisis continues, he will suffer the outcome. What did he do when everybody was telling him including his close friends, that he will suffer ultimately because he is the leader of the party?”

Abe described Amaechi’s comments against him as very insulting, childish and an attempt to deviate from the crux of the matter. He said neither INEC nor the Rivers State governor, Wike was responsible for the pitiable situation the party (APC) in the state has found itself.

“It is unfortunate that Amaechi, has failed to acknowledge his actions which had dragged the APC in Rivers State to the edge. It is not the INEC Chairman, not Wike, it is not myself but the actions of the APC leader in Rivers, Amaechi that has dragged the party to where it is.” “Ameachi’s comment today on the radio was very childish, what he should be talking about by this time as a politician is the way forward. How do we come together to deliver the President, because everybody’s votes including the aggrieved people are necessary for the President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Secondly, I feel insulted when Amaechi said that Wike was using me. With all due respect to the governor of Rivers State, he is not in any way my superior. He is my junior at the Bar and in politics. “I have tried as much as possible for us to keep our dirty linen inside, Amaechi should not open his mouth again and say Wike is using me. He, Amaechi could not use me as a governor, against my principles and my beliefs, so how can Wike in a different party use me.”

Politics › Dismiss Election Rigging Video - Abia State Government by References(op): 10:35pm On Feb 17, 2019
ABIA State Government has distanced itself from a trending video of one Felix Kennedy Obisike, an N-power beneficiary in the state, arrested Friday evening by some APC members allegedly with filled result sheets for the shifted Presidential and national assembly elections. APC claimed that the said Obisike was working for the state governor to allegedly rig the election in favour of PDP.

Abia State government has however, in a swift reaction dismissed the allegation by APC as a failed plan by a faction of the APC in the state to confuse the people.

The government accused the APC faction of planting the said result sheets in Obisike’s car. A statement by the State Commissioner of Information, Mr. John Okiyi Kalu said a review of the video and the said result sheets clearly exposed many irregularities and discrepancies, hence described it as mere failed effort to blackmail Kennedy Obisike.

According to Kalu, “elementary review of the published purported INEC result sheet shows that the entries were typed out as against the usual practice of writing out results in long hands, with ink. Only a candidate who has never contested general elections before will attempt to pass off such a poor forgery as INEC result sheet”.

Explaining further, Kalu said that “N-power Social Investment Scheme is a Federal Government program anchored by the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment, Mrs. Maryam Uwais. Her office works with Mr. Chinenye Nwaogu, on the recommendation of our State Governor, as the State’s Focal Person on Social Investment Programs of the Federal Government in Abia State. Mr. Felix Kennedy Obisike is a volunteer beneficiary who is working with a handful of volunteers in the state N-power office. “When beneficiaries of the program in Abia State received attached short messages purportedly from the office of Mrs. Uwais, inviting them to a meeting at the Campaign Office of Uche Ogah in Umuahia on the 15th of February, 2019, the focal person in the state forwarded the message to Mrs. Uwais to verify the authenticity and she responded that it did not emanate from her or the presidency. On that basis, Mr. Chinenye Nwaogu instructed his assistant, Felix Kennedy Obisike, to send out short messages to the beneficiaries to ignore the invitation.

“As a result of the message sent by Felix, only a handful of the beneficiaries attended the meeting which apparently irked the Uche Ogah team who identified a friend of Mr. Felix in attendance, brutalized and tortured him before using his phone to call Felix and lured him to come to a location near the Uche Ogah Campaign Headquarters to pick his friend up in his car. “On arrival at the location, armed men from Uche Ogah’s campaign office pounced on Felix, dragged him into their office and brutalized him mercilessly in the presence of a handful of online media persons who apparently were already positioned at the office to witness the unfolding nefarious act.

They went to Felix’s car without him and took an official file belonging to his boss (Chinenye) which he was supposed to deliver in Aba same day and apparently planted the fake result sheet inside the file. “It is important to note that the video published online was edited to make it look like Felix confessed to being the one who owned the fake document whereas he never accepted ownership even under duress. He disowned the fake document and we call on those investigating the matter to invite all those in the office, including the so called media practitioners, and demand to see the whole video in its original form as well as get their statements under oath. “It was Mr. Chinenye Nwaogu, who got wind of what was happening at Uche Ogah’s campaign office and informed the Abia State office of the Department of State Services, DSS, to move in and rescue Citizen Felix who was apparently struggling for his life at the time as a result of the beatings and torture he went through inside the Uche Ogah Campaign Office in Umuahia. “The DSS operatives subsequently arrived took Felix into protective custody and are currently giving him medical attention. Unfortunately, nobody in the Uche Ogah Campaign Office has been arrested or invited for questioning as at the time of writing this press release. “We wish to demand full investigation into the abduction of Citizen Felix Kennedy Obisike and that those involved in this dastardly act be punished according to the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We have also noted other reported acts of violence and threats of unleashing violence on innocent citizens by those associated with the Uche Ogah Campaign Organization as well as the often repeated claims of deploying “federal might” to win election and wish to call on security agents to investigate everyone associated with the campaign organization, from top to bottom, make public their findings and punish those found to be engaged in criminal activities.

“The presidency, especially the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment, owe Nigerians, especially participants in the N-power program, public explanation on how and why a supposed national program funded with Nigeria tax payers’ money was turned to a political project with participants now corralled and compelled to join the campaign organization of an APC factional candidate in the state or face torture and possible death. “Allowing desperate political jobbers to engage in open abduction of citizens for any reason negates the recently endorsed peace pact by candidates in the state and we will not stand and do nothing as a responsible Government vested with the constitutional duty of protecting lives and properties of our citizens and residents of the state.

“Relevant security agencies in the state must therefore do the needful with regard to the abduction and torture of Citizen Felix as well as the subsisting threats of unleashing further violence on our people by APC operatives in the state. Abia State Government is ready and committed to taking any and every legal measure to protect our people. The peaceful and accommodating disposition of the Ikpeazu-led administration should not be mistaken for weakness”.

Politics › Nobody Will Unseat Me, Buhari Vows by References(op): 3:06pm On Feb 15, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed that nobody will unseat him.

He said contrary to opinions in some quarters, he had the strength to lead the country for four more years.

Buhari stated this in an interview aired on Friday on the verified Instagram page of CNN Africa while responding to doubts about his ability to run the country for a second term.

The interviewer had asked the President, “This is a vibrant democracy. You came in, unseating the incumbent. Are you worried the same could happen to you?”

To this, Buhari responded, “No. Nobody would unseat me.”

He added, “I am ready to take this country forward for the next four years.”

When asked his plans for containing the terror in the North-East, the President insisted that Boko Haram was no longer “technically” having a grip on any local government area in the region.

He said, “We have 774 local governments in this country. They (Boko Haram) used to hold 17. They are not technically holding any local government now.

“But they are indoctrinating young men and women, especially girls, wrap them up with explosives and let them explode them in soft targets like churches, mosques, marketplaces, motor parks and other places.”

Buhari added, “Of course, we are doing our best (to contain the terror) and we thank some foreign countries in Europe and the United States for training our armed forces and going to the battlefront to see how they have performed.”

Politics › I Never Negotiated With Buhari Over My Re-election - Wike by References(op): 12:08pm On Feb 15, 2019
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said he never negotiated with President Muhammadu Buhari to be allowed to return as governor in exchange for his support for the president as claimed by the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi.

He also dared Amaechi to allow his son to lead the war he declared on the people of the state instead of using other peoples’ children to cause violence.

But addressing non-indigenes of Rivers State at a Campaign Rally in Port Harcourt yesterday, Wike said Amaechi needed psychiatric evaluation for suggesting that he negotiated with the president to allow him emerge as second term governor in exchange for the president’s victory.

“If I am their problem, why should I be negotiating with the President? It is utter rubbish. It is totally untrue. The President should help us bring a psychiatrist to review the situation of the Minister of Transportation.
“I plead with the president to do us this favour because our son is gone. We want to bring him back,” he said.

Wike expressed disappointment that Buhari sat and watched the Minister of Transportation threaten violence and deaths on Rivers State people without taking action.

“I was so disappointed that Mr. President was seated and the Director General of his campaign was threatening violence, singing war songs. Today they signed a peace accord. What will be the meaning of the Peace Accord when Mr. President sat down and listened to his Director General threatening deaths and violence?

“I have no problems with Amaechi’s threat of violence, but can he bring his son to lead the war? I challenge Amaechi, he has a grown up son, who should lead the violence. His son can lead the war and then we will know that Amaechi is serious “he said.

He called on Buhari to call Amaechi to order and urged the international community to hold Amaechi, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army and the Mobile Police Commander of Unit 48 responsible should there be violence during the elections. He said Amaechi’s bragging is premised on the plan to use the military to rig elections.

He wondered why Amaechi is leading the unnecessary push for violence when they are not running for elections in the state. He said after dashing the political hopes of several contestants of APC, Amaechi is still leading them to unleash terror on innocent people.

On the Rivers APC crisis, Wike said he is not the architect of the crisis, neither is he a party to the crisis. He said the crisis was generated by the impunity of the Minister of Transportation.

“I did not take APC to court. I never went to court against the APC. The matter is between APC and APC. How then did I cause the problem of the APC?” Wike queried.

He added that Amaechi, who did not run election, was made governor by the Supreme Court. He regretted that Amaechi is now struggling to destroy the Supreme Court.

Wike said unlike the Rivers APC, the PDP is committed to peaceful polls because it is confident of victory, adding that he is unequivocally committed to the election of Atiku Abubakar because he has the capacity to lead the country out of the woods.

Leader of the non-indigenes, Emeka Onowu, said the non-indigenes would support Wike’s re-election and that the victory of the governor was guaranteed because of his numerous projects.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has commiserated with families of those who lost their lives during the stampede that occurred at the APC Presidential Campaign Rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Igwuruta-Ali, Port Harcourt.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Emma Okah, said “these deaths at a time like this are very unfortunate and deeply saddening”.

He said, “It is a sad development and we share the pains of these families. It is possible that this ugly situation costing 17 lives, would have been avoided if the organisers had taken some basic precautions relating to crowd management in a gated environment.”

Crime › 2 Dead, 4 Injured, Scores Missing As Herdsmen Invade Delta Community by References(op): 7:56am On Feb 15, 2019
TWO farmers have been found dead and four others severely wounded at Ndemili, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, following the invasion of the community’s farmlands by rampaging herdsmen.

It was gathered that the deceased, whose bodies were found at about 4p.m. on Wednesday, were among three persons that were declared missing on Tuesday after some indigenes of the community were ambushed by the armed herdsmen. A source, who craved anonymity, claimed that the herdsmen “came into the community a few days ago. So on Tuesday, the community indigenes entered the bush to tell them to leave their community.

“Somehow, the herdsmen got information that the people were coming into the bush and they shot at them.” Confirming the incident yesterday, Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, said there was a distress call “from a lady informing the Police that three persons were missing.

"Earlier on, the people had instructed the herdsmen to leave their community. The herdsmen did not take this lightly and attacked the people. “The Police, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwale Division and members of the community’s vigilance team went into the bush with a view to rescuing the missing persons and apprehending the suspects.” Aniamaka said the bodies of two of the missing persons were found, while the whereabouts of the other missing persons was still unknown, adding “as we speak, the Police are still combing the bush to rescue him, but apparently the herdsmen have fled the bush.”

Politics › Re: Zamfara APC: Maintain Status Quo, No Candidate For Elections - Appeal Court by References(op):
This was corroborated by other news outlets......
https://www.sunnewsonline.com/apc-loses-out-in-zamfara-elections-as-court-rejects-appeal/amp/

https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/another-setback-for-apc-as-appeal-court-declines-enforcement-order.html

Hear Senator Marafa:

"We are back to status quo, that is, no candidates for APC in Zamfara," said Marafa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream).
"Contrary to the erroneous information being peddled by some uninformed persons, the Court of Appeal in sokoto didn't clear APC candidates in Zamfara.
"In the sokoto division, the Court of Appeal refused to entertain the motion filled by Yari's counsel seeking the enforcement of the judgement of the Zamfara high court.

"The motion for the enforcement was rested on the appeal filled by Rep Sani Jaji and since the appeal was withdrawn the motion collapsed with it and was therefore dismissed.
"In the Abuja division, a similar motion seeking stay of execution filled by Yari counsel was withdrawn by the counsel himself, who also admitted in the open court that the motion ought not to have been filed because Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu did not give any order that can be stayed she simply commended INEC and maintain that it (INEC) acted within its powers and that APC failed to prove its case that it conducted primaries in zamfara.
She thereafter dismissed the case. Consequently, the Appeal court struck out the motion
"The motions, having failed in both divisions of the court in the same day, it is very clear that we are back to square one. There is no APC candidate in Zamfara state," Marafa insisted.
