A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday cleared a former Cross River State governor Mr Donald Duke of his N537,334,360.77 debt to Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) after he paid N350 million as final settlement.

The court discharged its August 21 interim order which had permitted AMCON and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) to seize Duke’s properties and funds in his accounts.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo cleared Duke following settlement terms filed and moved by AMCON’s legal team from Benson Reeds Legal Practitioners, Abuja.

AMCON counsel, Mrs Juliet Benson, told the judge that Duke had fulfilled the terms of the out-of-court settlement and both parties had agreed to the terms.



“I hereby pray the court to adopt the terms of settlement as the judgment of court,” Benson said.

Duke’s counsel, Mr Edoigiawerie Omoruyi confirmed that his client had “shown good faith by promptly making the payment of over N350m which parties all agreed to.

“I join my colleagues in praying the court to enter our terms of settlement as the full and final judgment of court.”

In a bench ruling, Justice Oweibo upheld their prayers.

The judge added: “All orders in the case stands discharged.”

AMCON had on August 8 sealed off Duke’s Ikoyi home following the interim order.

Justice Oweibo, on September 3, upheld Duke’s prayer and adjourned till September yesterday, for a report of settlement, after Duke promised to pay off the debt.

Stonehedge Investment Ltd, Duke and his wife, Owanari Bob-Manuel Duke, were first to third defendants in the suit.

The PEPC has struck out the argument by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Atiku Abubakar was not qualified to contest the last presidential election because he is allegedly not a Nigerian by birth.

In its 6th ruling on Wednesday, the court said its power does not include determining the qualification of a petitioner in an election dispute.

It said its powers was to determine whether a person elected to the office of the President was validly elected and not to query the qualification of the petitioners to have contested the election, whose outcome was being queried.

The court said the APC ought to have filed a cross-petition if it sought to challenge the qualification of the 1st petitioner (Atiku) to have contested the election.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday chaired the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting.

The meeting started when the Vice President arrived at the Council Chamber of the State House around 11 am.

Opening Muslims prayer was offered by the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

It was the 96th and fourth NEC meeting in 2019.
Most of the 36 state governors weren’t in attendance when the meeting started.

Others were represented by their deputies.

At the meeting were the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.

Others at the meeting include the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire.

The meeting was still in progress at the time of filing this report

Blackface, ex member of the defunct music group, ‘Plantashun Boiz’ has taken legal action against former colleagues and music partners, 2face Idibia, Faze and Ruggedman claiming they’ve been performing songs written by ‘Plantashun Boiz’ and himself.

His legal team cautioned the former band mates, 2Baba, Faze & rapper, Rugged Man to stop performing his songs. He said their act can lead to damaging the image of the ‘Plantashun Boiz’.

He also posted an official letter from the court suing the above mentioned trio of impending copyright violation.

The Federal Government Of Nigeria has disclosed that the number of tax paying adults has doubled under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

This information is contained in a statement (which you can read below) Published by Senior Assistant to the president on media, Garba Shehu.

Mallam Shehu was reacting to the purported query of the Chairman of the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Babatunde Fowler.
While stating that the FIRS boss was not under investigation, the presidency praised the service, under the watchful guide of Mr. Fowler for recording notable and commendable improvement – which culmunated to the increase of tax payers from 10 million to 20million adults.

“It is noteworthy and highly commendable that under this administration, the number of taxable adults has increased from 10 million to 20 million with concerted” The statement reads.

Former Deputy Senate President who is presently in the eye of the storm, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has returned to the country after the attack by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra in Germany.

The Senator arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja today.

Speaking with journalists at the airport, Senator Ekweremadu reacting on the incident described his assault as the actions of a few misguided individuals and is not a representation of the thoughts and character of the majority of Nigerians.

He said he will not be seeking punishment of the individuals who were responsible for the assault on him and had forgiven them.

Recall that members of the proscribed IPOB had assaulted the Senator at the second Annual Igbo Cultural Festival in Nuremberg, Germany in what has now become a much talked about incidence on Nigerian social media space.

The uploaded video of the incident went viral after being uploaded on Sunday and has generated various reactions from Nigerians.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has faced heavy criticisms on social media following his declaration of support on the assault of Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany and his threat to some State Governors.

Ekweremadu was attacked by IPOB members as he attended a cultural event by the Ndi-igbo in the European country as a guest speaker.

The IPOB leader on Sunday, while speaking on the incident pledged N1 million reward for information on the foreign travel plans of all the South East governors as well as on Lt. Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff.

Nnamdi Kanu however, was blasted by many Nigerians who launched attacks on him with some calling him a coward.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cancelled the unified tertiary matriculatio
n examination (UTME) result of Kingsley Unekwe for allegedly altering his score in order to meet the cut-off points to study Medicine at the university of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The board said 18-year-old Unekwe was caught inflating his original UTME score from 201 to 269.  He becomes the fifth person whose UTME result has been withdrawn and cancelled by the board.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, addressed reporters when Unekwe and his mother appeared before some officials of the board in Abuja at the weekend.

The registrar said Unekwe had edited the original score allocated to him by the board and presented it to his parents as the original result.

He said the boy’s parent had called the board, alleging irregularities in their son’s result, leading to their invitation to Abuja from Awka, Anambra state.

Unekwe, in the presence of his mother and officials of JAMB, confessed to have tampered with the original UTME result allocated to him by the board.

He said his original score of 201 didn’t meet the requirement to read medicine which his parents wanted him to study at UNN.




He explained that to make his parents happy, and proud, he had to edit the original UTME result to meet their expectation of him becoming a doctor. Unekwe appealed to the board for clemency, feigning ignorance of his crime.

But JAMB registrar said the boy would be handed over to security agencies for prosecution. Prof. Oloyede said: “Anybody who does post-result infraction, will have their results withdrawn by the board.

“You are the fifth person. Two of them are already being prosecuted because we showed them clearly that they forged their results to deceive their parents who are desperate, like your parents are to study medicine.

“We will prosecute you for attempting to damage the image of the board. We told your father that we have all the facts, if we find out that the facts are not correct you will be prosecuted.”

The Nigerian singer/producer, who was on Beyonce's new album, The Lion King: The Gift, linked up with American singer, Swae Lee, the one half of hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd and Canadian rapper, Drake to produce a new song, 'Won't Be Late' for the international stars. 

The beat has afro-upbeat infused with the foreign cool pop sound, and on the song, Drake made use of some Nigerian Pidgin slangs ‘Ikebe‘ and ‘Bakassi‘ which means buttocks in English Language. 

The Canadian rapper also shared the cover art of their new song on his page.
