The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has explained that payment of N30,000 minimum wage to corps members will depend on directive from the federal government.

He also disclosed that date of birth of corp members would start appearing as from the issuance of the Batch C discharge certificates to guard against age falsification.

The NYSC Director-General, Shuaibu Ibrahim, said this while speaking to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.

”On the minimum wage, I cannot make any pronouncement because it is ongoing. The moment it is transmitted to NYSC, we will make it known to the corps members and the general public,” he said.

He said the NYSC Act stipulates that fake graduates are liable to two years in jail, after prosecution.

He said a corps producing institution will be blacklisted if it engages in this act.

“Let me reiterate our warning that any person who presents fake certificate in an attempt to get mobilised for service will be handed over to the security agencies for prosecution.

“We are working on those fake corps members. They will be arrested and prosecuted.

“If I show you their papers, you will feel very sad. Some people have asked me if NYSC has the power to crosscheck the certification of graduates, I said no, but we have the power to ensure that unqualified Nigerians are not mobilised for service.

“The NYSC Act says unqualified Nigerians who go for service are liable for jail (term) of two years.

“So, the NYSC will never condone or abet illegality in any form. We want Nigerians to know that. Since inception, 4,644,804 Nigerians have participated in the scheme.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has lamented delay in implementation not the new minimum wage.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not face criminal charges over an alleged rape at a Las Vegas hotel after prosecutors said his accuser's unwillingness to name an attacker stopped a proper forensic investigation.

Kathryn Mayorga claims that the Juventus star sexually assaulted her in 2009 after they met at the Rain Nightclub in the Palms hotel.

But today it emerged that prosecutors will not file charges against the striker, who was pictured with Ms Mayorga on the evening in question.

The allegations of sexual assault against Cristiano Ronaldo cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,' they said in a statement. 'Therefore, no charges will be forthcoming.'

The accuser filed a police report describing the alleged attack, but did not name Ronaldo in the original document.

She has since said that the Portugal player invited her up to his hot tub in the penthouse suit at which he was staying.
'Without knowing the identity of the perpetrator or the location of the crime, detectives were unable to search for and impound vital forensic evidence,' the prosecutors said. 'In addition, video evidence, showing interactions between the victim and perpetrator before and after the alleged crime, was lost. The criminal investigation was closed.'

The prosecution team maintains that a a civil settlement was reached in 2010 and nothing more was reported to police until August 2018.

Ms Mayorga named the former Manchester United player and asked for the investigation to be reopened.

Barcelona are set to open talks with Lionel Messi to extend the forward's contract until 2023, according to ESPN.

Messi, 32, is in the final two years of his deal and Barca are keen to get him to commit to Camp Nou beyond 2021. It would be the 10th contract he has signed with the Catalans since his first professional deal in 2004.

Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu will lead the negotiations with Messi's father, Jorge, who also acts as his agent.

There's a clause in Messi's contract to extend the terms by an additional 12 months until 2022, but Bartomeu is keen to reach a completely new agreement to tie him to the club for four more years, when he will be 36.

Bartomeu is aware Messi's main interest is not only financial and hopes to offer him the best squad possible as Barca continue to seek their first Champions League trophy since 2015.

Messi has always maintained that he would like to end his career "at home" in Barcelona.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has adviced Christians to always pray and show love to their enemies including insurgents as this is what God expects of them.

Osinbajo gave the advice when he spoke in Lagos at the National headquarters of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Nigeria yesterday Sunday July 21st. According to Osinbajo, he is always shocked when men of God speak bitterly about their enemies.

“The gospel of Jesus Christ is a contrarian gospel because it does not agree with our flesh. The Bible for instance says we must pray for our enemies, bless those who curse us and even those who persecute us. But our flesh says we should curse those who curse us. In fact, curse them so much that they will not again dare to curse. The Scriptures say we should not revenge. The power of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ lies in that very contrarian nature. The gospel speaks to that which we do not want to accept.
I have seen as I travel around the country how God’s love is demonstrated by other people, ordinary Christians. A woman whose two children were killed and her father was also injured in the North East. I spoke to her and she said, we still must pray for these people. These people are the people to whom we have been called. I was surprised. I have heard leaders of our faith who speak with such bitterness.

When I heard this woman who had lost her two children speak, I knew she spoke from the very depth of the grace that God gives to those who truly believe in him and I know it is that kind of love that can conquer all situations and win souls and win over the worst of men and the worst of women. It is that exceptional kind of love that Christ himself taught us. But it is so difficult. Yet that is the gospel.” he said

The Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Support Group has accused former President Goodluck Jonathan, and his wife Patience of making surreptitious moves to cause confusion in the PDP by falsely encouraging multiple governorship aspirants to enter the race.

The group said this is to make the party lose the upcoming election. Group coordinator Isaac Ipidei, in a statement on Wednesday, said while Jonathan invited many prominent Bayelsans (with the pretext that he was supporting them), to join the governorship race, the ex-first lady and his close political ally, King AJ Turner, have been meeting with Chief Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ipidei called on the national leadership of the PDP to note “the dangerous duplicity of Jonathan and his political camp, and so take requisite steps to avert any threat to PDP’s victory at the November 16 governorship polls”. He called on the national leadership to take the expected measures to halt the action linked to the former President to prevent him from repeating the PDP loss of political power at the centre in his native Bayelsa.

According to Ipide, it was rather curious that Jonathan, who rode to the peak of his political career on the platform of the PDP, would sponsor opposition candidate to subvert the party’s chances for reasons known to him. He urged the PDP family in Bayelsa to be wary of the former President, who he accused of deliberate refusal to support the party financially or morally during its moments of trial and during crucial elections since 2012.


According to him, Jonathan refused to support the PDP campaign in the last election, but opted to support opposition elements from the APC and the ADC. He said the National leadership of the PDP would not probe for long before they realise that Jonathan, his wife, and cronies are sponsoring litigation in favour of defeated candidates of other parties sponsored by them in the last election.

He added that the former President refused to speak out when the party came under attack from the military, and a PDP Ward Chairman, Mr. Seidougha Taribi, and a Government House photographer, Reginald Dei, were murdered in Southern Ijaw.

1. Spinal Cord Injury;

This is caused by damage to any part of the spinal cord or nerves at the end of the spinal canal (cauda equina). It usually causes permanent changes in strength, sensation and other body functions below the site of the injury, according to Mayo Clinic. There are approximately 12,500 new spinal cord injuries each year, meaning 40 out of every one million people suffer such an injury.

Research has shown that cannabis can help patients deal with the pain and muscle spasms that often accompany the injury. Researchers from Oxford Centre for Enablement found that “Cannabis medicinal extracts can improve neurogenic symptoms unresponsive to standard treatments”.

2. Multiple sclerosis

Also known as disseminated sclerosis, this disease affects the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms include pain, balance issues, spasm, tingling, vision problems, according to Canabo Medical Clinic.

Recent research published in the Multiple Sclerosis Journal found that cannabis-based medicinal extracts can considerably reduce the spasticity and pain associated with multiple sclerosis with few adverse effects on patients.

3. Cancer

Cancer, abnormal growth of cells, is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, responsible for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018. Cannabis, at the moment, does not cure cancer, but health experts say it can significantly reduce the severity of symptoms associated with the condition.

Two of the key active components found in cannabis, THC and CBD, according to research, can stimulate appetite, which can improve weight loss, anorexia and cachexia that many patients encounter. Cannabis can also help fight nausea associated with chemotherapy treatment.

4. Arthritis

Arthritis is the inflammation of one or more joints, causing pain and stiffness that can worsen with age. Cannabis is most effective at treating the pain associated with the condition.

Various studies show that smoking the natural herb helps to reduce the pain. A recent study by Health Canada and the Canadian Consortium for the Investigation of Cannabinoids found that about 36 per cent of Canadian medical marijuana patients regularly smokes weed to alleviate arthritis pain.

5. Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a central nervous system disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behaviour, sensations, and sometimes loss of awareness, according to Mayo Clinic.

Around 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy, making it one of the most common neurological diseases globally. Scientists have, in recent years, discovered that cannabis-based drugs, or CBD, which does not produce the “high” feeling associated with marijuana, can be effective in reducing the frequency and severity of seizures.

6. HIV/AIDS

Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 70 million people have been infected with the HIV virus and about 35 million people have died of HIV. Modern medications have enabled people to live a longer and healthier life, but others complain of adverse side effects with the treatment.

Various studies, however, show that medical cannabis can deal with symptoms of the disease, including weight loss, nausea, anorexia, among others. A recent study cited an HIV-positive man cited in who claimed that marijuana calmed his stomach after taking medication, stimulated his appetite, eased his pain, and lifted his mood.
