Temilade Openiyi, Nigerian singer popularly known as Tems, has joined the ownership group of San Diego FC in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the US.

The American club announced the inclusion of the two-time Grammy award winner to its executives in a statement on Wednesday.

Tems acquired a stake in the club through The Leading Vibe, her company. The deal was also brokered through a partnership with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm that worked on driving investors for NBA Africa.

According to San Diego FC, the singer has become a club partner and shares a “commitment to excellence and community engagement”.

Tems, born in Lagos, described football as “a unique way of bringing people together,” adding that she looks forward “to help build something special in San Diego”.

“I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a Club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community,” the singer said.

“Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation.”

Juan Mata, a former Chelsea player; Issa Rae, an American actress; and Jocko Willink, a retired U.S. Navy SEAL, are other San Diego FC ownership group members.

If an album wins a grammy, only the owner of the album wins the grammy statue. It doesnt go to the people featured on the album.
Its only if its a song that wins a grammy, then the person/people featured on that song also receive one.

Nigerian Afrobeats star Tems has secured her second Grammy Award, winning in the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Recording Academy Awards 2025.

Her hit song Love Me Jeje triumphed in a category dominated by Afrobeats heavyweights, with Chris Brown as the only non-Afrobeats nominee.
Tems faced strong competition from fellow Nigerian artistes, including Burna Boy, Asake, and Wizkid for their collaboration MMS, as well as Yemi Alade and Davido, who featured alongside Lojay on Chris Brown’s Sensational.

This latest achievement further cements Tems’ status as one of Africa’s most celebrated global music icons.

Stop lying. Yoruba culture is 'Worship of Twins'. We have statues of twins. We pray to goddess osun for twins. The oriki of twins (praise-singing) is one of the longest in yoruba culture, closest to the oriki of obas thrones. Never has twins been killed by yorubas.
They are so special we have special specific names for them, Taiwo and Kehinde.

Even on their wedding day, if the bride is a twin, she will be sent away with prayer by her parents and also seperately by her twin. Dts the only time a sibling prays for a bride in yoruba wedding, cos we believe they have the same divine authority as the parents over the brides life.

PS - Killing of twins was akwaibom-calabar and igbo culture which was ended by mary slessor. And throwing of babies in water is ijaw culture, not yorubas.

The argument 1 person made on twitter was that, since its okay for air peace to wear isi agu, igbos should stop crying tribalism when yorubas also glorify their own tribe.
Just last month an igbo man in ibadan complained that all radio stations in ibadan used yoruba language and dt its tribalist and a disgrace. There was intense arguments. Also 2 weeks ago Joseph Benjamin complained that yoruba movies was now preaching tribal supremacy dt was detrimental to the movie industry, just cos of jagunjagun winning many AMVCA nominations.
