PRESS RELEASE

TRAGEDY: OAU LOSSES STAFF TO LION ATTACK

The management, staff, students and the entire campus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have been thrown into mourning following the untimely death of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that Mr Olawuyi, a Veterinary Technologist, who has been in charge of the Zoological garden for over a decade, was attacked this afternoon, Wednesday, 19th February, 2024, by a 9 - year old male lion when he was feeding them in their den at the Zoological garden of the University.

The other members of staff who were at the scene of the incident did everything within their power to rescue their boss but the wild cat had already caused severe fatalities.

On hearing the sad news, the management team, led by the Vice Chancellor, abruptly ended an on going meeting for an on the spot assessment

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, was informed, on arrival, by the Acting Director of the University Health and Medical Centre Dr. Tirimisiyu Olatunji, that all first aid and medical efforts to save the life of the victim proved abortive.

Saddened by this tragic event, the aggressive Lion has been euthanized.

Mr Olawuyi has been taking care of the lions since they were born on campus about 9 years ago but, tragically, the male Lion killed the man who had been feeding them.

The University management has sent a delegation to the widow and children of the deceased, imploring them to take solace in God who gives life and also has the power to take life.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

May the soul of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi rest in peace.

My dear brother, I can relate to your concerns. I am a 12 years post call lawyer and I am constantly bothered about this issue too. My monthly earnings are close to your range, and I consider myself to be fairly comfortable.
My wife constantly talks about us relocating to Canada, but I find it difficult to grasp how I'll cough all that amount of money just to start life afresh in a strange land.

That's my sole concern, how will I cough that huge amount of money and start afresh.... Because of my wife course I think she will fit in very well to their system... The question is what will be my fate?

@op. You've highlighted your chances of carrer growth in Nigeria- what career path are you looking at in Canada?

Are there colleagues who have migrated you could speak with?

I have in Canada but they are not given me the necessary attention, they're always busy

Village people have finally located you.

Risk management analysis: Your wife is currently unemployed. So you have no idea who she really is. Once you migrate to Canada, you will lose your stronghold in Nigeria and possibly (actually most likely) your wife and kid.

Because I didn't say much about her doesn't mean I know her.... Infact she has more prospect there than me

I'll advice you to go alone first. Use study route and make sure it's a country that you can easily relocate your family after a year or two.

Please don't sell your properties to move all your family at once. I live in LA I would advise you come to the US thou it's very hard.

Remember it's not always greener on the other side. What works for Mr A might not work for Mr B.

PS: if you're one of those that forced buhari and APC government on the innocent Nigerians it will never be well with you and this your japa plan won't work out. And also if you're a Muslim terrorist online pulling down the western country you better go to Saudi Arabia or else the western country won't favour you in Jesus name.

But if you're not one of those I listed may this journey you're about to start favour you and your family.

Yes, I'm using study route to Canada but wanted to use express entry to Canada but the stress will be too much.

Definitely, I won't sell my house but might sell other landed properties that I have. I wanted USA but I heard the chances are too slim so I won't want to waste my money.....

Yes, the fear of unknown, what works for Mr. A might not work for Mr. B, that the reason I need advise.

Your curse will never affect me in Jesus name. I was in my final year during 2015 election. Voted for buhari hoping he will turn things around for good... But the reverse was the case. Since then I have been voting against APC. In fact I am a member of PDP though not too serious with politics

Don't Japa!

You can travel as much as you want but don't Japa!

You're living the life most Nigerians want.

Modified - After much consideration concerning the security state of 9ja, I'd advise you to make a well-detailed research before Japaing.

Just don't go from lawyer to cleaning people's nyansh.

Also, avoid UK at all cost.

Question of the day - why aren't people trying Russia?

What's special about Russia?, Please if you know reveal it here

That's the point, I just don't want to go from lawyer to cleaning nyansh. I really need advice mostly from senior lawyers practicing here and lawyers that are in abroad, particularly Canada

I'm a lawyer, called in 2016. I'm married with a kid and I'm in my early 30s. My wife is not working, so I have been the one shouldering the responsibility, despite that, God has given me my own house. Three bedrooms flat in front and three bedrooms flat at the back, all with full pop, water heater, full tiles, in fact all the modern facilities.
In all honesty I made between 600k-1.5m per month.

Just of recent, the zeal to Japa to Canada has been on my mind through school route. I currently have like 7m in my account and I know I could raise it till 15m before the end of the year. The cost of schooling keep giving me issue. How will someone travel abroad and spend over 15m when I could used the money to buy hostel from people who desperately needs money or invest in real estate.

Another concern of mine is that the future of legal profession is reducing because of the amount clients are paying particularly in the area of agreement and other things.

Definitely, I won't be selling the house if I decide to relocate, the rent from the two flats will go to my mom and the least could only be 500k per year. I won't have issues sending money at home.

Please, I really need advice from lawyers that are there, how do you cope migrating. Is it advisable I leave, if yes, what are the first things I might encounter, if am relocating it will be with my family. I just don't want to regret relocating. The exchange rate is just too much
