We’re distracted like never before — and our phones are probably the biggest culprit. But there is a way you can live with one and still get things done. When your mind is even slightly resisting a task, it will look for novel things to focus on. And it doesn’t need to look far — only as far as your phone. Our smartphones provide an endless stream of bite-sized, delicious information for our brains to consume. It’s easy to get hooked, even to feel addicted. And most of us would prefer not to feel this way. Here are 7 strategies that are useful to prevent phones from taking over our time and attention: Use airplane mode, even when you’re not in the air Airplane mode isn’t just for travel. Use it when you’re working on an important task or having coffee with someone you value. It makes a bigger difference than simply putting your phone in your pocket; when you do that, you’re still aware of the buzzing, vibrating notifications and distractions piling up and waiting for you. Airplane mode eliminates the possibility that notifications will disrupt your work or conversation. Do a phone swap While you should tuck your phone away while you’re with family or friends, there are times when you need to have it handy. On these occasions, try swapping phones with the people you’re hanging out with. This way, if you have to look something up, make a call, or send yourself a reminder, you’ll have a device to do it with — but it won’t be one that will suck you into a personalised world of distraction. If there is an urgent call or message on your phone, of course, your swap-mate has to promise to tell you, and vice versa. Prune your apps. Scroll through your phone and delete the apps on which you waste too much time and attention — social media and news apps included. This can feel refreshing, like spring cleaning for your phone. Step two: Consider getting rid of apps that duplicate functionality with apps on your other devices. For example, your email app may not be worth keeping if you also read mail on your tablet; an investment app you check compulsively might be worth nixing if you can access that information on your laptop. Create a “Mindless” folder. So you can’t quite get rid of all your time-wasting apps — and that’s OK. Just house your most distracting apps — the ones that pull you into autopilot mode — in a “Mindless” folder on your phone or tablet. The folder’s name should serve as a reminder every time you’re about to distract yourself. Mind the gaps This one takes willpower but consciously resist the urge to tap around on your phone when you’re waiting in line at the grocery store, walking to the coffee shop, or in the bathroom. Try to use these breaks to reflect and recharge. Mindlessly burning these moments on your phone isn’t worth it. http://demgohearword.com/how-to-keep-your-phone-from-taking-over-your-life/

The West African countries of Ghana and Nigeria have an ongoing rivalry between them akin to that of siblings. From football, to politics, to entertainment, citizens of each country always want to demonstrate their superiority over the other, howbeit not in a hateful or biased manner. It is always more bants than facts. There have been several episodes, of ‘social media wars’ or ‘Twitter Fights’ between citizens of both countries that leaves us all clutching our stomach with laughter. Through it all though, it is obvious that it is all love and sport. In this post, we attempt to give reasons why Nigerians, despite the rivalry with their Ghanian counterparts, should visit the Gold Coast. Just like Nigeria, Ghana is rich in history, mineral resources, culture, tradition and places of interest to see and visit. Many Nigerians do not even know that in Ghana you have Hausa and Fulani speaking people like there are in Nigeria. Cousins Ghanians are like cousins to Nigerians. Visiting Ghana for a Nigerian is like visiting your cousins for holiday. There are lots you share in common, but somehow you all still do things differently. Case in point, the jollof. When Nigerians visit Ghana there is an air of familiarity about the place, some lingo and slangs are commonly used, but their pidgin is still very confusing. Food Shitor. Banku. Waakye. Jollof. The list is endless really. Ghanian cuisine can be a joy to experience and even though the eternal battle over whose jollof is better still rages on, no Nigerian should visit Ghana without tasting the jollof. Ghanaian food is actually so popular in Nigeria that there are bukas and restaurants in Lagos dedicated to selling just Ghanaian meals. The most popular among them is Ghana High. Shatta Wale Shatta Wale is Ghana’s biggest music sensation at the moment. And only recently he has had a war of words with Nigerian pop artistes on social media. As long as you are not one to take these things too seriously, visiting Ghana to see a Shatta Wale show should be on your list of things to do, at least that way you can see what the hype is about yourself and tell if he is as great as he says he really is. Beaches Ghana is blessed with such an impressive stretch of beach line. If you are tired of the Elegushi and Oniru beaches of Lagos, switch it up by exploring the coastline of Labadi and Kobrobite. If you are enthusiastic about wildlife, visit the Cocoloco beach where you would find turtles and a large number of river birds. Beach Resorts in Ghana are beautiful and spending a night or more in one of them would greatly enrich your Ghana experience. Hospitality in Ghana is amazing with big establishments and accra hotels offering top notch service to travelers. Charle Wote We have Calabar Carnival. They have Charle Wote. This annual street cum art festival does get bigger and better every year with amazing exhibitions, musical performances, art installations, food, merchandise vendors as well as live music and dance that goes on well into the night. For anyone who enjoys having a good time, when in Ghana, Charle Wote is a must attend. Nigerian Community There is a perpetually growing Nigerian community in Ghana and visiting Ghana would definitely feel like home. It wont be long before you notice the familiar accent of a Nigerian, no matter where he is from back home and quickly tag them as your brother or your sister. Especially in Ghanian Universities where many Nigerians turn to as an alternative to schooling in Europe or right here at home. https://iwonpopular.com.ng/6-reasons-nigerians-should-visit-ghana/

Looking for some effective ways to transform your body? There are a few great exercises that will help you to reach your fitness goal. These exercises are easy but effective in strengthening your body along with burning unwanted calories. However, sticking to these exercises is not enough to transform your body, you should also eat healthy and get enough sleep regularly. Don’t waste your precious time doing other workouts, here are seven exercises that will help you transform your body in no time. 1. Jumping rope When was the last time you jumped rope? Perhaps in your childhood. Jumping rope is a cheap and easily portable exercise that you can do almost anywhere. This workout burns more calories per minute than any other workout. Get jumping for a perfect exercise and plenty of fun. One of the best things about jumping rope is that you can do it with your kids. Moreover, jumping rope is a fantastic way to fit in a highly effective cardio session when you are on the go. Simply toss your jumping rope in your carry-on and you don’t need to look for the nearest gym. So, who said jumping rope is only for kids? 2. Squats The squat is a compound, full-body exercise that works more than one muscle group. This powerful exercise helps tone your glutes, strengthen your body and burn a lot of calories. To boost your calorie expenditure and raise your heart rate, you can try to do jump squats. Or stay in a squat hold with dumbbells in the hands to increase the resistance as well as feel the burn. Doing squats regularly is one of the best ways to transform your body as well as improve your physical health. If you sit all day at work or at home, you are at higher risk of serious disease. Why not do several squats whilst waiting for your dinner to cook, the kettle to boil, or your PC to boot up? Sometimes multitasking is a great thing! 3. Pushups Unfortunately, many people avoid doing pushups since this exercise is a bit harder to perform, but it can do wonders for your body. There are plenty of different pushups that work the different muscles in the shoulders and arms. Try to vary your pushup style to lower your risk of becoming bored with exercise. Not only do pushups work the upper body, but also work the core. Do pushups a few days a week to help sculpt the arms and overall transform the body. Plus, pushups are good for your heart and cardiovascular health and this exercise helps to improve your posture. Just make sure you do them correctly – learn to do pushups with your back straight to reduce back pain and avoid straining your back. 4. Lunges To tone the muscles in your legs try doing lunges. Lunges give you such amazing results because they isolate every leg individually, helping transform your body. To add some cardio and boost the intensity, do some jump lunges. I suggest you to do 3 sets of 10 lunges a day for the best results. Since lunges are a very effective workout for strengthening, sculpting and building a few muscle groups, why not do them every day? Even if you have a super busy schedule, you can still find time to do several lunges. Stop making excuses and start exercising to transform your body today. 5. Swimming The great news for all lovers of swimming and for those who are trying to transform their bodies – swimming is a super effective workout that will bring you astonishing results. Swimming helps strengthen your core and work different muscle groups. Swimming boasts numerous health benefits. It helps to reduce your blood pressure, strengthen your heart and improve your aerobic capacity. Plus, swimming is a wonderful way for your family to get moving and have plenty of fun together. Though, this exercise is not as portable as jumping rope. 6. Running There are many benefits of running. It helps to relieve stress, improve your heart health, reduce the risk of depression, burn mega calories and improve your overall health. Running can actually transform the body like nothing else. It builds strong, toned legs and makes them look thinner. I enjoy running, especially early in the morning, and I think it’s one of the best exercises to do every day. I always feel a great sense of accomplishment after my run. If you don’t feel like running, try jogging. Not only does jogging help to burn calories, it also helps to improve your overall health. 7. Cycling A cycling workout is a foolproof way to get a great sweat and work your legs. Cycling is a wonderful exercise since you can push yourself at a higher intensity. It strengthens your legs, arms and back, encourages your heart to work more efficiently and aids in weight loss. Cycling is also one of the easiest ways to fit exercise into your everyday routine since it’s a great means of transportation. It gets you fit, saves you money, and is good for your health. Bring along your significant other or friend, or cycle solo, and ensure you get the most out of your workout. So there you have it! The list of the most effective exercises that will definitely help you transform your body. Just make sure you do them on a regular basis to see the best results. What’s your favorite exercise? http://healthjustok.com/2018/09/27/7-exercises-that-will-transform-your-body/

World food agencies such as the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and World Food Programme have, on several occasions, raised an alarm over the looming and impending danger of food shortage in Nigeria. Both agencies, as of March 2018, said that it is possible for food shortage to affect 5.8 million Nigerians. Despite the large expanse of land that cuts across the country from the North, South, East and West, it’s very shocking and rather sad that there’s not enough food to go round. But then, this was not the case in the past. Agriculture was the mainstay of the Nigerian economy: groundnut pyramids from the north; cocoa from the west; and kola nut from the east. In 1956, Nigeria struck something sweeter and juicier than agriculture. On that fateful day, in the village of Oloibiri, the country discovered oil and agriculture took a back seat. The country literarily abdicated and abandoned every other sector for oil thus making the Nigerian economy a mono-product economy. From one oil boom to another, Nigeria was revelling in the pool of petrol dollars while agriculture that has the possibility of gainfully employing and feeding Nigerians took the backseat. Agriculture cried and cried for attention but was neglected. This is why some people have described oil as a 'curse' rather than a blessing to the country. Now, agriculture is very frail and everyone including the government is running helter-skelter to revive it. And oil has lost its fanfare. Interestingly, technology has a solution for almost every problem. In the case of agriculture, digital farming is the tech innovation being used to solve the Nigerian food crises. Digital farming or agriculture is the use of new and advanced technologies, integrated into one system, to enable farmers and other stakeholders within the agriculture value chain to improve food production. How digital farming works Technology as earlier said has a solution for almost everything. It simply depends on how you deploy it. For those who 'hate' farming, digital farming is perfect for you. And the story of digital farming is incomplete without referencing Farmcrowdy. Farmcrowdy can be described as the first digital farm in Nigeria. With digital farming, you do not need to own a farm. You simply invest your money in any of the available farms advertised on the digital farm platform and at the end of the harvesting cycle, you get your return on investment plus interest. The reason why this works is that digital farm platform provides support for farmers to guarantee improved crop yield and preservation of harvest. This will, in turn, reduce food waste and increase food production. The eCommerce is a foolproof business model that has been tried and tested by Jumia, Nigeria’s no 1 shopping destination and it has really been successful so far. As such, it is nonplus that the eCommerce business model is being replicated in other sectors of the Nigerian economy. Can digital farming tackle food shortage in Nigeria? Food shortage is a threat to Nigeria's existence. This is not supposed to be the case in Nigeria because of the availability of large expanse of fertile lands. Thankfully, digital farming arrived and every Nigerian now has the opportunity to play a role in Agriculture even though they do not need to work on the farm. This is the real catch. Therefore, it is very possible for digital farming to tackle food shortage. Digital farmers cannot do it alone. All stakeholders must come together to find a solution to the food shortage crises in Nigeria. For now, the digital farmers can only do as much. http://demgohearword.com/digital-farming-can-tackle-nigerias-food-shortage/ cc -Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

In the comfort of his home, Mr John Doe attempts to place an order but he hits a brick wall. He calls his daughter to assist him and under his watchful eyes, she places the order within seconds. The order is confirmed and delivered! Mr Doe is wowed because he has learnt how to buy or purchase items seamlessly online. From the scenario, Mr John Doe clearly represents the digital immigrants while his daughter connotes the digital natives. In this rapidly changing world, the digital immigrants (this mostly applies to individuals who were born before the spread of the digital technology and who were not exposed to it at an early age) are more likely to be left behind by the digital natives. Only a few digital immigrants with the desire to embrace the digital and technology trends can move from being referred to as 'immigrant' to 'native' Now, who are the digital natives? Digital natives are generally born after the 1980s and they are comfortable in the digital age because they grew up using technology. This resulted in the use of labels such as ‘digital native’, ‘the net generation’, ‘Google generation’ or ‘the millennials’. These are defining the lives of young people at the age of new technologies. The digital gap needs to be closed to ensure that nobody is left hanging. Is there actually a digital gap? There are different types of digital gaps especially in Nigeria and Africa at large. There is the gap between urban and rural areas, the gap between the rich and the poor, the gap between the digital natives and digital immigrants. Until this divide is closed and shrank, economic prosperity or growth will be farfetched. How eCommerce is bridging the Gap Between Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants The eCommerce space in Nigeria is expected to contribute a whopping $13 billion to the Nigerian economy by the end of 2018 and the eCommerce market value could rise to $50billion (N15.45 trillion) over the next decade. Clearly, the largest chunk of that contribution will come from Jumia since it has proved over the years to be Nigeria’s no. 1 shopping destination. Although, research reveals that more than half of the Nigerian population are under 30 years of age, which means that there are more digital natives in Nigeria; the digital immigrants are not isolated. The undeniable fact is that the digital natives easily welcome technological changes with little or no qualms. So, you do not have to be surprised when you talk about eCommerce, the digital immigrants may either be sceptical or unenthusiastic. This was before Jumia made a triumphant entry into the Nigerian economic space in 2012. Their arrival revolutionised business in the country as everyone wanted to imitate and replicate the Jumia model. It also triggered the consciousness of the digital immigrants that they can actually be part of the digital economy of Nigeria; thanks to Jumia. The digital immigrants working in tandem with the digital natives replicated the Jumia model and they can now proudly call themselves business owners. Regardless of the aforementioned, Jumia still dominates the Nigerian eCommerce space and 6 years down the line, it has moved on to becoming an ecosystem where you can literally book or buy anything. Another way eCommerce is bridging the digital gap is by offering affordable internet-enabled phones to Nigerians. For example, the digital natives prefer to use internet-savvy phones while the digital immigrants are happy with phones that only receive and make calls. This gap needs to be closed so that both parties can enjoy internet on-the-go. According to the Jumia Mobile Report, the prices of smartphones dropped from US$216 in 2014 to US$100 in 2017. This is definitely why almost everyone you see today, notwithstanding their divide, is using a smartphone. Meanwhile, in a handful of Nigerian homes, many digital immigrants can now purchase items online. Thanks to the digital natives who are now savvy at buying things online via Jumia. They can easily teach their parents who are likely to be digital immigrants the comfort and convenience of ordering their items online that even when they are not around, the digital immigrants can easily order their items without any difficulty. http://demgohearword.com/how-ecommerce-is-bridging-the-gap-between-digital-natives-and-digital-immigrants/ cc -Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun
