PoliticsRe: The Northern May Dominate The Nigerian Seafaring Industry. by RibaduFan(m): 7:34pm On Nov 24, 2008
Next to the Northerners are the South westerners. Infact I think they are gradually taking over from the former when it comes to running down this entity called Nigerian. Although the region has over the years produced leaders and technocrats that have contributed positively to the development of various sectors of the Nigerian economy, its current crops of leaders are just pathetic.

The likes of Iyabo Obasanjo, Patricia Etteh, Prof Grant, prof Aborisade, Fani Kayode etc are just disgraceful

Thank God for the Easterns that really working hard at pushing the country forward, Iweala, Ekwensili, Dora, Utomi etc. I think its time we give the Ibos a chance at ruling this country, maybe they might be able to get us out of the dungeon the North and it south western counterpart have dragged us into.

Painful truth.

At the risk of being tagged a tribalist, I would like to submit, without mincing words, that the North controls every non-productive, non-competive, non-valuing adding sector of our economy. Every sector that takes more than it gives, that encourages federal character at the expense of right qualification, that values the few over the many, that manipulates and extorts and supports corruption is controlled by the North.

Sorry if I am being politically incorrect. Am not saying the other areas are better, but this just the obvious truth.

what's driving the price down, reduction in demand. Then the solution is simple, OPEC cuts production, price skyrockets, loba tan. For now we ll survive but it's high time we start diversifying.

May be u dont listen to the radio. I believe the state govt is already doing enough in terms of orientation and enlightenment. I ve heard at least 2 radio gingos sensitising people on need to pay taxes and how to pay. Nigerians are just stiffnecked and like cheating.

Thanks for putting forward a good arguement on behalf of the traders, sure someone somewhere would have noticed what u pointed and would probably point it out to the government and perhaps our dearest governor would be more tactful next time.

Got to go to bed, so i can wake up early tomorrow catch a ride to work earn my wage for the day and pay my tax.

Pls for the sake of posterity u need to change ur attitude. Tax avoidance is a nefarious act that should be condemned by all. Pls ensure that ur parents are in full compliance with the law and that when u start working u dont default urself.

And pls study hard, so we can have one more deligent and patrotic Lagosian.

Fashola's next stop should be all this bank workers not paying their PAYE taxes in full, then all those traders not paying shishi. Everbody should his/her tax in the right amount.

They can pay taxes yet they can buy beer and spray money in parties.

Damola, wish i had ur details, am sure u re due for a tax audit. We wont close ur shop, would simply jail u.

BusinessRe: Entire Computer Village Shut Down Over Tax by RibaduFan(m): 11:36pm On Nov 20, 2008
The various tax acts are very clear on the punishment for tax payment default. Fashola is just being considerate and lenient. These guys should be jailed for cheating the government, for cheating u and i. They make a whole lot and pay nothing, and yet a poor employee like myself is forced to pay so much very month as tax. I know a lot of young men that pay monthly taxes in excess of N100k and yet they earn less than N1m monthly. These 'shyllock traders' make tens of millions monthly and dont pay a dime and u re playing their advocate. Hope u know aiding a crime is a criminal offense in itself.

here we go again, mortgaging our future for space toys that ll crash in less than 2 yrs.

The seller is also the one lending us the money to buy. At this rate, China would owe the whole country. Anyway that's what u get when u make cattle rearers, amala eaters and spare-part traders ur policy formulators.

Way to go Fash. U cant enjoy BRT, enjoy beautiful environment and not pay tax. Computer Village should be a major revenue earner for the state, but alas, the reverse is the case.

Pls lets us all be faithful in the payment of our state. Eko oni baje o.

PoliticsRe: How Taxes Work by RibaduFan(m): 10:19pm On Nov 19, 2008
the richest man:

- uses the biggest car, the biggest generator and emits the largest amount of CO2
- leaves in the biggest house with dozens of bathrooms and even swimming pools wasting H2O
- uses the largest amount of polythene products and other environmentally unsafe products

Left to me the rich are not paying enough, especially in an economy like ours. Find out how much Dangote pays as tax and u would get the shock of your life. This amount compared with the amount of pollution poured out by his factories and the amount of resources utilised to fund his rich man's appetite.

Asking people not to pay their taxes is criminal. It is inciting people against the government.

The article is quite insightful, very interesting and also truthful. However, the author forgot to tell us that the rich man uses the biggest chunk of the natural resources available in the committee, creates the most waste and needs the most social infrastructure.
