Politics / Aisha Buhari’s Inauguration Wristwatch Cost £34,500 (N10, 453,000)-BreakingTimes by RICHIEBOI1(m): 4:46pm On Jun 01, 2015
By Kayode Sesan

Investigations by BREAKING TIMES on Monday revealed that Aisha Buhari, wife of the President of Nigeria wore a Cartier Baignoire Folle 18-Carat White Gold Diamond Ladies Watch that cost £34,500 to President Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration on Friday, May 29 2015.

The equivalent of this at the current Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) foreign exchange rate of N303 to £1 is N10, 453, 000 (Ten Million, Four Hundred and Fifty Three Thousand Naira).

The Cartier Baignoire Folle 18-Carat White Gold Diamond Ladies Watch comes in a case made of rhodiumised white gold set with brilliant-cut diamonds. On the side of the case is an octagonal crown set with a diamond. The case is 44mm high, 35mm wide and 10mm thick and is covered by glare-proof sapphire crystal glass.

President Muhamdu Buhari was elected riding on the wave of strong anti-corruption, integrity and pro-masses sentiment.

This shocking extravagance by Mrs. Buhari runs contrary to earlier indications that the Buharis are modest and the President, a pastoral farmer with 150 cows, barely raised the money to pay for his presidential nomination form.

Many Nigerians have expressed confidence in the ability of the new President to fight corruption by cutting government waste and running a lean government.

Again, Buhari’s appointment on Sunday of two Spokesmen has drawn criticisms from some Nigerians who say one spokesperson is enough for a Government that preaches change and a radical departure from the alleged wastage of past administrations.

Colonel Hamid Ibrahim Alli is a brave Kano Prince. He was a military governor of Kaduna state and a diehard IBB boy who is reputed to have made the statement “I can follow IBB to war blindfolded” to show how much he believed in IBB as a general. But that didn’t stop him from looking IBB in the face and telling him he was wrong on the case of the annulment of June 12 1993 elections.

He lost his commission because he refused to support the annulment of the June 12 election and Abacha’s takeover of government instead of handing over to MKO. Despite his famous dislike for MKO, whom he saw as an arrogant man, he insisted justice and fairplay must be done. He demanded MKO be sworn in even if he was a devil.

Rumour has it that he would have been killed if not because he was a blue blood. He left the Army and government unceremoniously, a simple man without money or scandal. According to reports, he is into poultry farming and still drives a 504 Peugeot.

Colonel Hamid Ibrahim Ali is currently undergoing SSS screening in preparation for his appointment.I mmediately there were feelers that he will emerge the next EFCC Chairman, corrupt politicians have been on panic mode. Some have started refunding stolen funds.

Politics / PENGASSAN, NUPENG Begin Strike by RICHIEBOI1(m): 5:44pm On May 21, 2015
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, branch of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Corporation, NPDC, yesterday shut down exploration activities in the country over the failure to reverse the alleged transfer of the operatorship of Oil Mining Lease, OML 42.

The unions had given a notice, which expired on Friday, urging the Federal Government to reverse the transfer of operatorship of the Joint Venture, JV, partnership in OMLs 40 and 42 to Neconde Energy Nigeria Limited and Elcrest Exploration and Production Limited.

A statement from the JV partners, said the shut-in has affected all NPDC operated assets in joint venture with indigenous companies that had applied for operatorship, except Neconde, who, prior to the crisis, had been awarded the operatorship of OML 42, and immediately got the JTF to secure the assets.

Elcrest (OML 40) which is next in line to be awarded operatorship, Shoreline OML 30 and FHN/Afren (OML 26) have now been shut as oil evacuation is hampered from OML 34 which relies on the OML 30 pumping station. The unions had accused the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, of stripping the two oil blocks from NPDC, a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

In 2011, the Federal Government assigned 55 per cent equity in eight assets divested by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC to NPDC. The company had since retained the operatorship of most of the assets which included: OMLs 4, 26, 30, 34, 38, 40, 41 and 42. The partners in the statement also expressed worry over the impact of the industrial action on the already crippled country’s economy. According to the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, “Nigeria has faced continued pressure from spiraling debts, in the face of dwindling revenues resulting from falling global crude oil prices.”

They argued that if the industrial action is allowed to persist, it will also affect the power sector as NPDC supplies at least 30 per cent of gas required to generate electricity. According to them, “Over the years, NPDC have been under constant attack for lacking the requisite technical competence and financial muscle to operate the assets in contention effectively and efficiently.

“Under NPDC’s operatorship, all the oil fields have taken a nose-dive in production volumes; obligations to communities have not been met; sharp drop in revenue, etc. All the indigenous companies that are in a JV with NPDC have suffered from the poor performance of NPDC since acquiring the licenses.” They also insisted on “NPDC’s lack of capacity to continue as the operator of the acreages they purchased from the Shell-led consortium. Their argument is that they could have gotten more production out of the fields than NPDC was doing as operator.

The government appears to have finally agreed with them and the perception in the industry is that the remaining three companies will soon have their prayers for operatorship answered.” A management staff of NPDC who pleaded anonymity, was quoted as saying that the strike had resulted from “a breakdown in communication” between the management of the company and the union members.

He further stated that under the new arrangement, the workers stand to benefit more, saying: “Both the NPDC and the indigenous companies are all understaffed, and would require more workers.” “With operatorship rights transferred to the indigenous companies, there is bound to be a sharp increase in oil production; an increase in revenue stream; increased gas supply to domestic markets to improve power generation; community development etc,” he added.

When contacted, NUPENG National Secretary, Comrade Isaac Aberare, said such shift in ownership will affect workers welfare. “Whenever there is a change like this, the interest and welfare of the workers are affected. Also, workers are always paid-off.” He argued that the assets are operating and do not need to be sold. “The asset is a producing field and is not a marginal field. If it is fully operational and working well, why sell it to make others suffer?

“The transfer however, would strip NPDC of its operation on that assets as well as affecting the production, and welfare of the workers. The sale was done without following due process,” he alleged.

Politics / VIO Not Permitted To Check Drivers Licence, Vehicle Particulars—frsc by RICHIEBOI1(m): 3:26pm On May 21, 2015
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, on Monday, said that the corps would commence a crackdown on drivers who possess fake drivers license.

He also explained that the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) were not permitted by law to inspect vehicle and drivers licences.

Paying a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, Oyeyemi explained that people who work with some elements to procure fake drivers licence would not have a hiding place

He also appealed to the Inspector General for improved collaboration with the corps, especially in the areas of security, sharing intelligence and prosecution of offenders.

He also declared war on some youths who constitute themselves into nuisance on Abuja streets driving vehicles recklessly in the name of “stunting”, adding that they constitute danger not only to themselves, but also on the generality of road users.

Oyeyemi equally lamented the abuse of siren and construction of speed breakers indiscriminately by some persons or communities.

According to him, “The statutory responsibility of the VIO does not include to stop people and ask for drivers licence. There is no statutory powers given them to do so.

“All that we do are contained in the transfer of powers by the IG. If the police stops you to ask for your particulars, they are doing what they are statutorily empowered to do. What we need is collaboration to be able to do our jobs very well.

Speaking on the progress the corps has made, the FRSC boss said that road crashes reduced by 40 per cent last year.

Politics / Return Stolen Funds & Get Pardon, Buhari To Corrupt Officials by RICHIEBOI1(m): 12:35pm On May 02, 2015
Nigeria’s President elect may likely grant amnesty to corrupt politicians but they will have to first return any stolen money in their possession. This was made known by former governor of Ekiti state and Head of Policy, Research & Strategy, Buhari Campaign, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
According to the ex-governor, Buhari’s promise to extend hands of friendship to everybody does not mean that he would not prosecute corrupt government officials who served in the President Goodluck Jonathan administration. Kayode was speaking during a programme on BBC titled, HardTalk were he said the APC government would use all means to ensure that justice and fairness were established.
“Corruption is not going to be dealt with by punishment alone. It is also going to be dealt with by incentives to those who are prepared to have a conversion. If you come voluntarily and say, look, I have stolen some money and I am prepared to return the money, Gen. Buhari would not say no to that.”
“Returning the funds is a form of justice to Nigeria because those funds will now be available for the teeming population. There would be a range of options for dealing with corruption but that does not mean that justice will not take its full course.
“Buhari said he would not interfere with the judicial process and that if anyone is found guilty of malfeasance or corruption then that the law would take its course. Buhari didn’t mention any individual but anyone who is found guilty or who behaved badly in terms of corruption would be brought to face the law.”

Politics / Police Boss Says Roadblocks Remain Banned by RICHIEBOI1(m): 10:28pm On Apr 29, 2015
The Acting Inspector General of Police in Nigeria, Mr Solomon Arase, says the ban on roadblocks remain operational, warning that any command found wanting will be punished.

The newly appointed police boss gave the warning at a meeting with commissioners of police in Abuja on Wednesday.

Mr Arase warned that the command of any jurisdiction where roadblocks are found would be held liable and swiftly dealt with in line with police rules and regulations.

According to the Acting Inspector-General, roadblocks are public nuisances and points of corruption that would not be encouraged under his administration.

He also warned officers who engage in corrupt practices to desist, as it would no longer be business as usual.

The Acting Inspector General said he would continue on the part of the reformation of the police force to ensure that there would be improvements in the aspect of respect for human rights by officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, better welfare packages and training for all cadre of officers and men of the police.

Mr Arase was recently appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan following the sack of his Predecessor Mr Suleiman Abba.

Politics / If You Have Looted Nigeria’s Money You Must Return Our Money – Says Buhari by RICHIEBOI1(m): 11:05am On Apr 24, 2015
President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that his government will recover much of the monies looted from the treasuries of Nigeria with an initiative he will put in place.
Buhari said by the time his government’s anti-corruption programme is unveiled, those who stole blindly from the government coffers would cough out every money that have stolen.
He insisted that, ‘Stealing is now corruption and nobody will be allowed to go free with our money’.

Buhari made this known in Daura recently when responding to entreaties from supporters of the APC who urged him to keep to his promises to Nigerians and not take the war against corruption with
levity.
He is set will put in place a committee to probe the monies generated by the Nigerian government in the past few years and determining how much had been misappropriated within the period.
One of the APC top members who was in attendance at the brief meeting in Daura said the President-elect was optimistic that those who stole from Nigeria in all tiers will return what they stole very soon.
He said Buhari was of the view that while he would not go all out to initiate a process to jail looters of the treasury, anyone who failed to co-operate with measures to be put in place for recovery of looted funds will have to face the consequences.

He's still a Nigerian policeman. They're not known for their good deeds.

The Nigerian police still remains one of the most corrupt institutions in the Africa with most poorly motivated staff.

A vast majority of people who join the 'force', do so out of poverty and desperation, which they take out on the public when they're enlisted.

The only IG who had a sense of decorum was the one before recently sacked one. I cant remember his name.

Could it be MD Abubakar?
