ISRAEL'S SHIN BET ISSUES FIRST OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON ELECTION BRIBERY INVESTIGATION Israel's domestic security agency has released its first official statement addressing suspected foreign interference and election bribery. KEY REVELATIONS: THE INTELLIGENCE DID NOT COME FROM ANY POLITICAL PARTY. Shin Bet says the information originated from its own intelligence-gathering operations aimed at detecting foreign influence — not from Likud, the opposition, or any other political organization. THE INVESTIGATION WAS KEPT SECRET UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION. According to Shin Bet, only Central Elections Committee Chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg had access to the intelligence before voting concluded. THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL ONGOING. Shin Bet explicitly warns that public claims about the substance or nature of the suspicions do not represent the agency's findings. NETANYAHU, EISENKOT AND LAPID HAVE BEEN PERSONALLY BRIEFED. With Justice Sohlberg's authorization, Shin Bet Director David Zini personally briefed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yashar leader Gadi Eisenkot and opposition leader Yair Lapid during the past 24 hours. THE FINDINGS WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE CENTRAL ELECTIONS COMMITTEE. Shin Bet says the full results will be delivered transparently, without interpretation, to the authorized election officials. In the 2022 elections, the Likud received 1,115,336 votes, which translated to 32 seats. In the 2026 elections, so far, the Likud has received 1,133,834 votes, which, according to current calculations, equates to 27 seats. In other words, numerically, even without considering the increase in the voting population and other factors, more voters cast their ballots for the Likud party this year than in the previous elections. At least 64 people have been killed and 80 injured, including 50 seriously, after two high-speed trains collided near Urda in Spain's Toledo province earlier today, El País reports. An AVE high-speed train struck an Iryo train that had stopped on the tracks, sending two Iryo carriages and one AVE carriage down an embankment. More than 540 passengers were aboard the two trains. Spanish government sources have attributed the collision to suspected human error at Madrid's Atocha control center.
