How was Muhammad Deif ELIMINATED? The information gathered suggested that Deif might come to visit the compound, and for a long time they waited for his meeting with his commando-his best friend, Salama. ISRAEL'S attempt to ELIMINATE the military leader of Hamas came, therefore, following weeks of surveillance of the Salama family compound. The area where the attack took place is located west of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza. This is a villa surrounded by palm trees, which is close to the beach. The hiding place belonged to Salama's family. "And we are convinced that we knew where Deif was, near Salama, until a very short time before the bombs fell on both of them. Our intelligence grasp of the incident, the confirmation that it was indeed both of them, and the volume of the bombing of the compound where they were - indicate that there is no chance that any of them managed to escape alive from the incident," said the source. In ISRAEL , they were sure that the chances of hostages being near Deif were nil or at least slim for several reasons. First, Deif was a guest in the compound, and it was unlikely that he would "follow" a trail of kidnappers after him. Second, the presence of abductees or of a group of people, especially if they were forced to go together, could be seen by Israeli surveillance as strange and draw attention. |

The attempted assassination of Mohammad Deif: Security officials say this morning that even in the last few hours, no new intelligence information has yet been received that makes it possible to strengthen or substantiate the word of Daf's assassination.
