The Old Testament did not start out as a perfect book written by or about a perfect God. It was a product of its time. Thousands of years ago, many civilizations practiced animal sacrifice. The Old Testament reflects the practices of many religions of the time in which it was written. We would call many of the religions that advocated animal sacrifice as “primitive.” Primitive religions offered sacrifices to their gods in order to prevent natural catastrophes, such as the eruption of a volcano. The sacrifices mentioned in the Old Testament are just as primitive. An all-perfect God would not find the “aroma” of burning animals and grain “pleasing.” However, the central concepts of Judaism and Christianity are dependent on these verses. ![]() |
All through the OT , God requires offerings for atonement of sins. Elaborate temples have to be built to very specific detail and for every sin that is committed , an animal has to be killed, bled and burnt . Or was God just a convenient explanation for grilling meat ? Maybe grilled lamb was really savory and funding was impossible unless it was a religious ritual ? I have to ask because the bible never explains why the smell of burnt meat is a satisfactory offering to receive his forgiveness. Genesis 8 Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, takingsome of all the clean animals and clean birds, hesacrificed burnt offerings on it. The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma Exodus 29:18 Then burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the LORD, a pleasing aroma, an offering made to the LORD by fire.....25 Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar along with the burnt offering for a pleasing aroma to the LORD , an offering made to the LORD by fire. Leviticus 1:9 He is to wash the inner parts and the legs with water, and the priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. Leviticus 3 Then Aaron’s sons are to burn it on the altar on top of the burnt offering that is on the burning wood, as an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. Leviticus 17[ Read more in the bible. ] Clearly , the death of Jesus made up for the sacrificing of all the animals. If God required the scent of burnt offerings for atonement in the OT , why wasn't Jesus body charred for the smoke to go up to the air for God to smell? Maybe the explanation for that is that was because it was God himself . So, then, how is God satisfied with his own death ? Was it the smell of his own dying body ? Did the curiosity of being killed finally satisfy him? If so, why? |
malvisguy212:And when did you graduate from the theological school? Matthew 17:1-6Here is where you ought to use your brain; thats if it is still functioning. The verse was written by Mattew, whereas Mattew was not among the disciples that went with Jesus. So how come those that were with him made no mention of this? Jesus is the word of God does not mean God the father voice become mute. The bible say , through the word the world was frame. In other words, Jesus is separate from yhwh? |
