Now the budget has been signed, let us all get down to the work of developing Nigeria. No more room for blame or excuse. No more 'I am better than Jonathan and all other past leaders'. Now is the time to prove it. Enough of delivering activity and running from one media house to the other for the purpose of propaganda. Now, we have got the money we asked for. Let us stop talking too much. Let us now deliver results and let those results talk for us. My name is Ben Murray-Bruce and I just want to make Commonsense! http://mobile.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=459611390903244&id=279327892264929&refid=8&_ft_=qid.6281973206986424413%3Amf_story_key.-2180126636984279851 Cc: lalasticlala,mynd44 |

Chika Ike and Tony Eberiri The duo signed the dotted lines to become man and wife in 2006 and by 2013 another dotted line was signed in an Abuja High Court, but this time, it was to dissolve the marriage. Shortly after the dissolution of the marriage, the actress took a picture of the court paper beaming with smiles and it soon flooded the internet. In a series of interviews, the actress made it known that the main reason she walked out of her marriage was because she was a victim of domestic violence. The actress claimed that her husband was always beating her and she lost her pregnancy on one of the occasions. Though she has been linked with one or two top government officials, the pretty babe is still singing and gracing the TV screens. Funke Akindele and Kenny Oloyede The marriage between ace actress Funke Akindele and Kenny Oloyede just lasted for some months, it was between May 2012 and 2013. The marriage was the talk of town mostly because her hit movie,Jenifa, had endeared her to the hearts of her fans and many were so happy that their darling Funke had left the single ladies’ club. However, some others wagged their tongues that the marriage would pack up soon because she was not Kenny’s first wife, others were optimistic that things would work out if they gave it a shot. Nevertheless, it still came as a rude shock when the marriage collapsed when it did! Nobody saw it coming. It came as a shock when the actress’ camp released the statement to confirm her separation, “We want to formally inform you that after due consultation and consideration, she’s now separated from Mr. Kehinde Oloyede as his wife.” Subsequently, Oloyede, went on his Facebook page to break the news to his followers. He wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the separation of me and my wife, Mrs. Olufunke Akindele, we’ve both agreed to go our separate ways because of irreconcilable difference. We still remain best of friends and we forever remain good friends. I am doing just fine, getting along without you. I don’t need you anymore in my life. You are the greatest mistake I have made in recent times.” When asked why she quit her marriage, the actress claimed that she was a victim of domestic abuse both emotionally and verbally. “I was abused emotionally and verbally. Really, I felt we could work things out when the trouble started two months after the marriage, but I made up my mind and shut the door of the marriage at him when the trouble was coming to me too much,” she said. Princess and Adeshola Jeremiah Comedienne, Princess, was on top of the world when she was getting married. She was so excited that she even reportedly said, “I am so happy I’m now getting married, I can now proudly wear iro and buba like a Nigerian woman…God bless that young man that picked me and decided to pity me and marry me when I had given up all…I am saying this because I want you all to hear it, God bless him for me for covering up my shame.” But her marriage to Adeshola was probably the shortest among the list as it packed up almost at the beginning. Not much is known about why the marriage broke up but Princess would always pin it down on ‘Irreconcilable differences’. www.punchng.com/top-six-celebs-marriage-break-ups/ cc: MissyB3, ijebabe, Fynestboi |
They are celebrities and usually, so much pomp follows their wedding especially for those of them who roll out the drums to have an earth-shaking ceremony. And when these marriages crumble unexpectedly after a short while, it is also followed with so much scandal, noise and most people, especially those who see them as their idols, are left in wonder and amazement. Saturday Beats beams its focus on some of the marriage crashes that shocked Nigerians in recent years. Tiwa Savage and Tunji Tee-Billz Balogun Theirs looked like a match made in heaven; at least that was the picture they painted on social media. So beautiful did their love seem that rap artiste, Ice Prince, in his song,That Could be Us, praised the couple’s love and told his potential girlfriend that their relationship could be like Tiwa and Tunji’s. However, Nigerians got the shock of their lives about two weeks ago when Tee Billz went on his Instagram page to rant and tell tales of his wife’s alleged infidelity among other things. In retaliation, Tiwa Savage granted a no-hold-barred interview where she claimed that her husband was not only a cheat but was an irresponsible man who stole from her. Although other entertainers have pleaded with both parties to let peace reign for the sake of their son, Jamil, Tiwa has made it known that the marriage is over. Toyin Aimakhu and Adeniyi Johnson When the romance between the pair began to brew, many people were skeptical for several reasons. First on the list was the issue of age difference because Toyin is older than Adeniyi. Some argued that it was an egocentric relationship because it was alleged that Toyin earned more money and seemed like the breadwinner of the family, so most likely she would want her decision to be final and this might not sit well with her husband. Despite all these odds, the pair tried to prove that love is blind and they proceeded to the altar. Toyin and Adeniyi had a low key traditional wedding in Ibadan in February 2013 and on July 8, 2013, they signed the dotted lines at the Ikoyi registry. Shortly after they tied the knot, people began to monitor the marriage just to see if their predictions would come to pass and the couple made it easy for them by posting their daily activities online for the public to comment. Sometime in 2015, their marriage had a hiccup but their parents came to the rescue to patch things up. Later that year, it was announced that their marriage crumbled like a pack of cards. Although they did not give detailed reasons for their marriage failure, Johnson, in an interview once hinted that his marriage crashed because his wife caught him flirting. In a recent interview, the actress disclosed that she doubts she would give marriage or love another chance. Ini Edo and Philip Ehiagwina Not many knew how the romance began but they certainly knew how it ended. The union between the two was one plagued by various controversies; top on the list was the constant war of words between Phillip’s first ex-wife, Ruth Okoro and the couple. Despite the storm, the pair was able to sail through together for about six years before they called it quits. The separation was a messy one and some news portals reported that her bride price was returned because she was unfaithful in the marriage. It was alleged that she had an affair with a governor and that did not go down well with Phillip. It was also reported that the marriage broke up because the actress did not conceive a child and the husband’s family was breathing down her neck for a child. After a long silence on the issue, the actress via her twitter handle, insisted that she was never unfaithful to her husband. She wrote, “I asked for a divorce from my ex-husband because of irreconcilable differences. I never cheated on my husband. There’s a conscious and malicious attempt at tarnishing my image. This whole saga is familiar. Let’s not forget the past. Thank you and God bless.” The ace actress has since moved on with her life since the marriage crashed in 2014. Although there were claims in the media that she was in a relationship with an actor, Mike Godson, she never confirmed or denied the report. |

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps on Thursday destroyed 13 illegal refineries in Rivers State. This, according to the State Command of the NSCDC, was in line with its drive to eradicate the oil rich Niger Delta of oil theft, bunkering and other illegal activities. The anti-vandal squad of the command had visited the illegal refining sites located in the creeks of B-Dere community in Gokana Local Government Area, setting ablaze seven illegal refineries. It also advanced to Bolo Creek in Ogu/Bolo LGA where it burnt down six of the illegal refineries and oil dumps, bringing the total number to 13. In the operation that lasted for about five hours at the heart of B-Dere/Bolo creeks, the team also destroyed four boats, two flying-boats and two mangala boats used by the vandals in their activities. Earlier in the raid, some persons suspected to be operators of the illegal refineries at the visited sites had clashed with the NSCDC officers. The gunmen had engaged the security operatives in a shootout before escaping for safety having been overpowered by the anti-vandal team, although no casualty was recorded. Speaking to Southern City News after the operations, the Commandant of NSCDC Rivers State Command, Mrs. Helen Amakiri, said it located the illegal refineries through its intelligence gathering and reports. Amakiri disclosed that the vandals had been stealing crude from oil pipelines in the area and illegally refining the products in the two creeks. She noted that about 330,000 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil and 250,000 crude oil were discovered and destroyed The commandant, however, stressed that the government was losing much revenue to the activities of the vandals, adding that they (NSCDC) will not relent in their effort to stop oil theft. “The officers of the NSCDC Rivers State were in B-Dere in Gokana LGA and Bolo Creek in Ogu/Bolo LGA and we destroyed 13 illegal refineries. From an intelligence report, we gathered that these refineries exist there. “In today’s operations, about 330,000 litres of adulterated AGO and about 250,000 litres of crude oil were destroyed. “The government is losing a lot. Definitely this crude oil is got from a burst pipeline. The money that is being wasted due to the activities of these vandals would have been used by the government for other needs of the country. “We have the challenge of equipment, sophisticated weapons. Like today, there was a shootout between the vandals and our men. Although we have what we can face them with, but we need more. “There was a shootout between the vandals and our men, but, no casualty was recorded. The shootout will not deter us from our activities, rather, it has boosted our morale,” Amakiri vowed. www.punchng.com/nscdc-destroys-13-illegal-refineries-rivers/ |
Friday Amobi, Port-Harcourt Four suspects have been arraigned in a Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt for allegedly killing an operative of the Department of State Service in Rivers State. The suspects, Osah Ebube, Elem Innocent, Nwebehia Prince and Ferdinand Akpe, were on Friday brought to court over the killing of the DSS operative, Mr. Garrick Oyaghiri. It will be recalled that some gunmen had attacked DSS personnel in Obagi community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area on the eve of the national and state legislative rerun elections in the state. During the crossfire between the unidentified gunmen and the security operatives, it was learnt that a DSS official was killed. The DSS had swung into action and apprehended the suspects, who allegedly murdered their colleague about two months ago. The suspects were dragged to the Magistrate Court in a charge sheet, PMC/867C/16, on two counts bordering on conspiracy and murder. The count two read, “That you, Osah Ebube Chineme (Koingdom) Elem Innocent Aleze, Nwabehia Onyeocha Prince and Ferdinand Obi Akpe, all adults, with others still at large, on or about the 18th day of March, 2016, at Obagi community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, within the jurisdiction of this court , did murder Garrick Jonathan Oyaghiri, a personnel of the State Security Services, by shooting and stabbing him to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.” When the matter came up in court, the Chief Magistrate, Sokari Andrew-Jaja, did not allow the charges against the accused persons to be read and no plea was taken. Andrew-Jaja noted that the charges against the accused persons were capital offence and would be entertained by a high court. The Chief Magistrate, who refused to grant the accused persons bail, relied on Section 108 (1) of Criminal Procedure Act, which provided that it was only the High Court that had the jurisdiction to grant an accused person facing capital charges bail. “The section holds that an accused person who is facing capital offences shall be admitted to bail except by a High Court.” Andrew-Jaja ordered that the original case file be remitted to the State’s Director of Public Prosecution for advice and adjourned till 27th July. He declined having the jurisdiction on the matter, but remanded the suspects in prison pending the report of Department of Pubic Prosecution. www.punchng.com/four-suspects-arraigned-killing-dss-operative-rivers/ |

The spokesman of the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Rabe Abubakar, said in a statement on Friday that Boko Haram terrorists have now resorted to parading themselves in uniform. He said: "As a result of ongoing onslaught against the Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest, the terrorist group has now devised a means of identifying themselves. In this regard, the Boko Haram now wear uniform to blend among locality undetected where they sadly carryout their heinous crime. The recent apprehension of 2 Boko Haram terrorists in uniform near Dikwa in Borno State, is a pointer towards this direction While the military would sustain the current tempo to further decimate the terrorists, the military is advising the recalcitrant remnant Boko Haram to surrender now and get humane treatment in line with the world best practice. The members of the public are hereby urged to be wary of this new development and be always alert. Any suspicious persons or object should be reported promptly to the security agencies." www.lindaikejisblog.com/2016/05/boko-haram-now-wear-uniforms-to.html |
It is no longer news that President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the 2016 budget into power. But the statement made by the Nigerian leader afterwards are quite key. The signing of the budget had been anticipated by Nigerians who have described the president as a very slow individual who has no serious plans for the country. President Muhammadu Buhari handing over the 2016 budget after signing it. But after signing the 2016 budget, the president addressed Nigerians on how he feels after signing the document. Below are 12 key things he said after assenting the budget: 1. It gives me great pleasure today to sign the first full-year budget of this administration into law. I thank the leadership of the National Assembly, in particular, the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and indeed all members of the National Assembly for their cooperation in making this a reality. 2. The budget is intended to signpost a renewal of our commitment to restoring the budget as a serious article of faith with the Nigerian people. This Administration is committed to ensuring that henceforth the annual appropriation bill is presented to the National Assembly in time for the passage of the Act before the beginning of the fiscal year. 3. Through the 2016 budget, aptly titled “Budget of Change’’, the government seeks to fulfill its own side of the social contract. The Budget I have signed into law provides for aggregate expenditures of N6.06trn. Further details of the approved budget, as well as our Strategic Implementation Plan for the 2016 budget, will be provided by the Honourable Minister of Budget and National Planning. 4. I shall be speaking in more details about the Budget, its implementation and the over-all national economic and social policies of the Government in my address on May 29th, God willing. 5. In designing the 2016 budget, we made a deliberate choice to pursue an expansionary fiscal policy despite the huge decline in government revenues from crude oil exports. This is why we decided to enlarge the budget deficit at this time, to be financed principally through foreign and domestic borrowings. All borrowings will however be applied towards growth-enhancing capital expenditures. 6. The signing of the budget today will trigger concerted efforts to reflate the Nigerian economy, a key element of which is an immediate injection of N350bn into the economy by way of capital projects. To illustrate our renewed commitment to infrastructural development, the 2016 budget allocates over N200bn to road construction as against a paltry N18bn allocated for same purpose in the 2015 budget. President Buhari signing the 2016 budget into law after several controversies. 7. Despite the current difficulties we will work extra-hard to achieve our revenue projections. Our revenue generating agencies are coming under better management and are being re-oriented. The implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) is expected to contribute significantly to improving transparency over government revenues. 8. Our determined fight against corruption is resulting in improvements in the quality of public expenditure. The work of the Efficiency Unit, as well as other public financial management initiatives, are also contributing in this regard. The continuing efforts to reduce recurrent expenditures should hopefully free up more funds for capital expenditure in 2017 and beyond. 9. As I said in my New Year message, living in State House does not in any way alienate me from your daily struggles. I read the newspapers and listen to the TV and radio news. I hear your cries. I share your pains. 10. We are experiencing probably the toughest economic times in the history of our Nation. I want to commend the sacrifice, resilience and toughness of all Nigerians young and old who have despite the hardships continued to have hope and confidence of a great future for Nigerians. But permit me to say that this government is also like none other. We are absolutely committed to changing the structure of the Nigerian economy once and for all. 11.We are working night and day to diversify the economy so that we never again have to rely on one commodity to survive as a country. So that we can produce the food we eat, make our own textiles, produce most of the things we use. We intend to create the environment for our young peoples to be able to innovate and create jobs through technology. 12. I cannot promise you that this will be an easy journey, but in the interest of so much and so many we must tread this difficult path. I can assure you that this government you have freely elected will work with honesty and dedication, day and night to ensure that our country prospers and that the prosperity benefits all Nigerians. God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria.
