Can you share some of your experiences in the last three decades with us? It has been God. My kind of music is very unique, and I have a special voice. You cannot compare me to any other artiste, because I am a unique performer. My character has also contributed to my success because I relate very well with people. I don’t look down on people. How many albums do you have to your credit? I’ve lost count. As a devout Muslim, how do you balance your life as a Fuji star that is known for vulgar lyrics and your religion? Religion is different from the profession, but I thank God for allowing me to serve Him. Before coming out today, I’ve prayed to God and asked for his protection. On Fridays, people come to my house for Jumat service, because I have a mosque there. I love my God, and I like to announce that he is there for everyone. How did you get the aliases Obesere, Papa Tosibe, and Omo Rapala? I got the nickname Papa Tosibe about 22 years ago; I came across a guy who wanted to urinate in public, I advised him not to do so, because it was boldly written on the wall. He moved away, and asked me if it was okay to pee there so I told him “Yes, Papa Tosibe, so that was how the name stuck. I got the Omo Rapala title when I was in secondary school; my seniors used to come to my class to fetch me to sing for them. I always managed to slip away from them anytime I sang for them without their notice. I would wait till they got carried away with my music, then slip away from them, so they gave me the nick name Omo Rapala. I got the Obesere name from one of my boys, Captain Adeleke Akinsanya. He was the one bearing that name which he got from his area friends. He didn’t like the name and always fought anyone who referred to him as Obesere. I realised this name made him popular but he didn’t like it, so I took the name from him and it stuck. Have you heard anything new from the lady who alleged you raped her a while back? I have not heard anything from her since the Police found out she cooked up the story to blackmail me. I don’t know her whereabouts, and the Police haven’t seen her since then. What lessons did you learn from that experience? It is one of those things in life. You just need to be prayerful to get God’s guidance. Once you have God’s guidance, you’ll be able to overcome all challenges that come your way. It was God that helped me when I was going through that phase of my life. It is a lesson to celebrities because some people believe they can swindle entertainers with such stories. They tell you to negotiate with them, but I refused to negotiate with anyone because I wanted to see the end of the whole thing. Has the experience affected your relationship with your female fans? No, because I can’t decide not to associate with ladies just because of the bad experience I had with one lady. I have a lot of female fans. You can’t live in this life without challenges; I thank God that I’ve been able to overcome that challenge. I still love women, but I don’t chase everything in skirt. What exactly transpired between the both of you? It was a case of blackmail, and I believe that is what the lady does to earn a living. She made up a story and wanted everyone to believe it. How do you love to dress? As an entertainer, you need to always look good. Looking good is part of showbiz, so I love to always look good. I dress to suit the occasion; my dressing at a particular time is according to the event. As a busy musician, how do you relax? I don’t really have much time to myself, but I ensure I devote some time for vacation. I love to spend time with my family. http://www.punchng.com/lawyer-wasnt-musician-abass-akande/

What have you been up to lately? I just released an album titled Aja 1 but my 18 track hip-hop album will be released during the Eid-el-Kabir festival. The hip-hop album is just to prove to people that I can do other forms of music despite being a Fuji artiste. I want to show people that I am a professional. Is that why you have been working with Olamide? Apart from Olamide, I featured 9ice, Lord of Ajasa, and Timaya on the album. I also have a lot of up-and-coming artistes on my record label — Sidophobia Entertainment. My label is to promote myself and up-and-coming music artistes too. Presently, I have a lot of artistes on my record label because a lot of them come to me but I only select those who are talented. How have your fans reacted to this change? People have always accepted my music because I am a professional artiste. This is my chance to prove that I am worthy of being called the ‘Paramount King’, as my fans always address me. Tell us more about the title? For example, we have a lot of kings in Lagos but Oba Rilwan Akiolu is the paramount ruler. In Fuji music, we have a lot of people who refer to themselves as ‘King’, but I was crowned the Paramount King by the people. What do you think about the rivalry in the Fuji music industry? There is nothing bad in calling yourself the king or queen of your profession. You can’t refuse being called a king when people give you that title, and you can also choose to call yourself a king. I don’t see any rivalry because I do my music in a unique way. Everything I do comes to me naturally. How would you describe your relationship with other Fuji artistes? I love them so much. I am the national chairman of Fuji artistes. I am close to every one of them but I don’t have favourites or look up to anyone because I come from a family of musicians. Music is in my blood. Kwam 1 is a friend and colleague; Pasuma is a brother to me, and I love him so much. I love Saheed Osupa and every other person. If you weren’t a Fuji star, what would you have been? If I wasn’t into Fuji music, I would have been a lawyer because I know God created me in a way that makes it hard for me to be defeated. I know that if I represent a client in court, that person won’t be defeated. How did your journey into music start? I come from a home that loves music, and I never knew that I was going to become a musician. I just found myself in the music line. God showed me the way. Why did you choose Fuji as your genre of music? My family is known for Apala music, but you know music advances with time. Apala advanced to what we now call Fuji. What kind of upbringing did you have? I was born in Ibadan but I grew up in Lagos. I attended St Paul Primary School, Ebute-Metta, and Jubril Martins Secondary School, which is now known as Iponri Grammar School, Surulere. I couldn’t get a university education because there was no time for that; music had taken over by then. I’d love to attend a university, but I do not have the time. How would you describe yourself? I am a responsible person. When people see me on stage, they think I’m irresponsible. The truth is that when you see me performing on stage, I’m working to put food on the table for my family. When you see me behind the scenes, you get to know that I’m a complete gentleman. I love my family so much, and they come first. Most people judge me by what they see on stage, but that is not who I really am. That is how I make a living. How do you cope with your female fans? I’ve been coping with my female fans for a long time, and God has been helping me. We can’t do without women, but we just need to understand that we don’t need to chase everything in skirt. How long have you been in the music industry? I have been in the industry for more than 30 years. It was very tough at the beginning, but I thank God for his blessings. |

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr Pius Odubu, has assured the people of Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state that the agenda of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is to create prosperity for the state. Odubu who spoke at the APC ward campaign at in Ugo’niyekorhiomwon, said of elected as governor, Obaseki will not fall short of the people’s expectations as he has worked with the government in developing the communities in the state. He urged the people to ignore the political gimmicks of the PDP as they are up to no good assuring the people of Orhionmwon that APC leaders in the area will ensure that the promises of the governorship candidate is brought to bear in the lives of everyone. “Obaseki who is coming to take over from our governor, comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said he will provide stable electricity for you. He was able to do roads, he will fix the light. What you people will do is that since he is working for us, the vote in this entire area should all go to the APC. If you vote for the APC we will be with you to ensure they fulfill on their promises. “The road in this area is the longest in Edo State, in those days it was not like this. Oshiomhole has worked, Obaseki that is coming will work more than him. “You should not allow the PDP to tell you what they are not capable of, we (APC) are in this town and we will develop the area to the fullest,” he said. Speaking shortly before the ward to ward campaign of the APC in Orhionmwon, the Enogie of Ugo’niyekeorhiomwon, His Royal Highness Chief Edugie Ogierhiakhi Ogiugo, in company of the Enogie of Ugboko, HRH Solomon Ewemade and other top palace Chiefs, urged Obaseki to follow suit the development governor Adams Oshiomhole has done for the entire state. He commended the governor for a job well done and prayed for him and the APC candidate. On his part, the APC candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki promised to decongest the high traffic in the city by opening up new towns through infrastructural development and establishment of industries that will give every community in the state a sense of belonging. Obaseki who seek the support of the traditional institution in the provision of security for investors that are ready to come and invest in various parts of the State. He said, “The next state we are on to now is going to be of different challenges and that is why I have come here to solicit your support. The next phase is where we now begin to use the roads and schools to our development. We will post more teachers to our schools so that we can provide quality education but more importantly we need to expand the economy of our state and bring back our population. “We have oil and gas around here it is now time to build new towns around us,” he stated. On his part, Governor Adams Oshiomhole says the state government will will immediately commence the reconstruction of dilapidated structures in two primary schools in the Local Government Area, namely, Adanako Primary School, Ugo and Idumogo Primary School, Urhonigbe, in continuation of the state policy of upgrading educational facilities for optimum teaching and learning. Speaking at the APC governorship campaign rally at Adanako Primary School, Ugo, Governor Oshiomhole said, “my farewell gift to this Ugo, before I leave offtice, even before the election day, is I will reconstruct this dilapidated school building and put red roof. As for the already completed one, we will supply furniture by next week. Our children must sit comfortably on good chairs so that they won’t need to wash their school uniform every day. If the classroom and the floor are clean, school uniform won’t be dirty every day.” He said, “The work that is yet to be done is much. As we speak, we are working at Iguododo Pimary School and many other places. In Orhionmwon, I think we have done about 25 schools. We worked in every ward. We have shown you our candidate. He has been working with us for the past eight years in this government. He knows what we have done and what we have not done. Godwin is your son. He knows how we have been working, and so, he must continue to do the work.” At the APC rally at Idumogo Primary School, the Governor said, “Let me tell you what I mean by continuity and consolidation. We say this one so that people will not forget. Now, we are going to pull down this roof and raise the walls and put red roof, so that on the whole of this place, there is no more evidence of PDP. I will start it and Godwin will finish it. That is what we mean by continuity: continuity of red roofs, continuity of good roads, continuity of tap water and continuity of providing jobs for the youths and support for women.” According to Oshiomhole, “The other one is that rubber plantation that has already been given to a new investor who will rebuild it, and we have given them additional land. I have already signed the certificate of occupancy so that they can return back to work. When it is working, youths will be employed and even women will be cooking for factory workers and money will circulate.” Oshiomhole said, “If I am the Okakuo of Urhonigbe, and they don’t have light, that will be shameful. That is why I said since the Okakuo of Urhonigbe is the Governor, my people must get light. So, I have told the Okaevbo that Edo State Government will pay the twenty million naira for the electricity bill owed by Urhonigbe community. I have told the Okakuo of Urhomehe that we will talk to BEDC so that when we pay that money, they will restore light to Urhonigbe.” http://www.thenationonlineng.net/edo-polls-odubu-drums-support-obaseki-orhiomwon/

A CLASH between members of of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) clashed at Oshodi left many people injured on Tuesday. The fight, which started in in the night, continued till the wee hours yesterday as the factions brandishing bottles and other dangerous weapons, took over the entire road, scaring motorists. It was gathered that the crisis started after one of the wives of Musiliu Akinsanya (a.k.a MC Olomo), Modinat an NURTW leader at Oshodi, blocked the road with her car. The woman, who was said to be driving, allegedly parked indiscriminately, obstructing other roads users. Among those obstructed was an OPC member, who allegedly reacted in a way that prompted Mrs Akinsanya to invite some union members since her husband is out of the country. An aide to Akinsanya told The Nation last night that his boss’ wife did not obstruct road users. “She only parked by the road side to greet someone, leaving the way for other motorists but the OPC guy, who had had scores to settle with MC in the past came to harrass her. The guy seized the opportunity to vent his anger on MC wife,” he said. Sensing danger, the OPC member was said to have also invited his colleagues who stormed the area armed with cutlasses and bottles. It was gathered that many people were macheted while others were stabbed with broken bottles. The OPC members, It was also gathered, destroyed some parts of Akinsanya’s hotel in Oshodi. The Nation learnt that it took the intervention of policemen from Akinpelu and Makinde Divisions, as well as the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to restore normalcy to Oshodi. By the time The Nation visited the area, broken bottles still littered the road, while an Armoured Personal Carrier (APC) from the RRS as well as armed policemen were seen on ground. Reacting to the incident, the Police Commissioner, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said no life was lost. He added that the command was on the trail of the hoodlums, assuring that they will be arrested. According to Owoseni, the timely intervention of the police saved the day and prevented the hoodlums from wreaking havoc. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/scores-injured-nurtw-opc-members-clash-oshodi/

Femi Makinde, Osogbo A lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics of the Osun State University, Ikire Campus, Dr. Wale Ojoniyi, is currently in trouble following the release of a video tape of his alleged sex escapade with a 400 level English student of the institution, Mercy Ikwue. The student, who released the over 30-minute video clip, recorded it in a hotel room. Although some claimed the lecturer raped the student, real sexual intercourse was not captured in the video. There was also no attempt by the man in the video to coerce the student to cooperate with him. In a petition written to The Punch, some students of the university claimed that Ojoniyi was instrumental to the suspension of the female student, after she was allegedly caught for examination malpractices. On her return to the university after the one academic session rustication, the petition claimed the lecturer mounted pressure on the student for an amorous affair but the lady resisted him. It was further learnt that the lady confided in some persons, who advised her to set a trap for Ojoniyi by agreeing to his love advances. She eventually went to the agreed hotel room and met him. In the video, which was also made available to our correspondent, the female student set up a laptop directly opposite the bed and pretended to be watching the ‘Things Fall Apart’ film on it but she was recording the sexual activity. Although there was no act of sexual intercourse captured in the video, the man in the video was seen stark naked and caressing the student occasionally. In the video, Ikwue was seen throwing her blue top on the bed from an angle she knew the camera could not cover. She also ensured that the camera lense did not capture her when she removed her trousers. She wore her top throughout the 34-minute duration of the show and used the bedsheet as a wrapper. The man came to the bed naked oblivious of the trap set for him and dangled his manhood throughout the show. The audio quality of the video clip was poor but some of the conversations can still be heard. The female student said at one point, “Give me my transport. I am not asking for any other money, just give me my transport fare. “Why is your thing (private part) dropping like this, haven’t you done it in recent time. “Before I went on suspension, why didn’t you plead on my behalf? You knew about it joo.” Ojoniyi when asked by our correspondent if he was aware of the video said he had heard of it. He said, “I also heard of the video. It is being investigated.” Asked if he believed that the video was a handiwork of those who might want to bring him down, he said, “ People can do anything, but I cannot be brought down.” http://www.punchng.com/uniosun-lecturer-sex-scandal-video/ |
