PoliticsPeter Obi Surprises Dominican University With ₦30m Donation, Challenges Students by Rockyheight(op): 9:51pm On Jan 26
The Presidential Candidate of Labour Party in 2023 General Election, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated ₦30 million to Dominican University Ibadan (Samonda Campus), while challenging Nigerian students to take full ownership of their destiny. Arriving unannounced at the campus this morning, the statesman who has served as the institution's Pro-Chancellor for nearly a decade surprised students in preparation for their examinations with a wake-up call on national survival.
Addressing the students and faculty, Mr Obi didn't mince words about the paradox of Nigeria remaining one of the world's hungriest nations despite having 60% of its land uncultivated. He added that the era of relying on international "globalization" has ended, noting that the continent is being told to" go back home and develop" from the grassroots. Mr Obi blamed the nation's struggles not on a lack of resources, but on a chronic deficit of competence, capacity, and compassion in leadership, warning that the current levels of poverty and unemployment is not be tolerated in any other country.
Using clear examples, the former governor urged students to look toward agriculture as the "new oil." He explained that the Netherlands, a country roughly the size of Niger State, exports over $130 billion in agricultural products annually, three times what Nigeria earns from oil. He further contrasted the potential of the Sambisa area with Israel, which exports food despite having a landmass one-third the size of the forest. “Development doesn't come with tribe; it comes with knowledge,” Obi insisted that competent leadership is the only way to turn these vast resources into wealth. The impact of the visit was immediate, as the media team from CEO Africa was on-site to interview students and capture the shifting atmosphere on campus. One student, Segun, told CEOAfrica that seeing "Mr Peter" provided a vital mental shift during a stressful exam period, inspiring him to "go all out" to ensure academic excellence.
Professor Jacinta A. Opara, the Vice-Chancellor of Dominican University, expressed profound gratitude for the ₦30 million donation, which follows a previous ₦50 million grant. She noted that the visit had significantly boosted the spirits of both students and staff, reaffirming the university's mission as a center of academic and moral excellence.
When questioned about the upcoming 2027 elections and how to guarantee a fair process, Obi directed the responsibility back to the youth: “It is you that will protect your vote, not me. It is our own country, but it is your future that is at stake.” He concluded by urging a transition from a culture of consumption to one of production, insisting that the birth of a "New Nigeria" is a necessity that must begin within the classroom.
Speaking with other Students and Faculty at Dominican University in respect to Mr Peter Obi unannounced visit today, they were so happy for such a historic visit.
Mr Cosmos Akobundu, 400 level student of Philosophy was excited to discover that Mr Peter Obi, studied philosophy in his first degree. Listening to him today has changed my perception of our collective future; now, it is necessary for me to take my destiny in my hand for a new Nigeria.
Speaking with CEOAFRICA Winifred Ogwu, a 200 level Mass Communication student said “His presence and words of encouragement have prompted me to redouble my study efforts, especially at this examination period. I now know that I have a role in shaping the future of Nigeria.”
Jacinta Nwachukwu Nelson, a 400 level Mass Communication student said having heard him, I learnt that if I work hard, it is a way to take my destiny in my hands.
Fr Dr Augustine Agwulonu,OP an erudite scholar in the citadel of learning, said Mr Peter is indeed a leader, showing up unannounced is one of the qualities of a good leader; a very pleasant surprise for this Monday actually the beginning of the week, it is like a showers of blessings from heaven as the student begins their examination.
Fr Dr Emmanuel Ogu, OP, a University Leadership expert said that Mr Peter Obi’s unannounced visit represent for him a responsibility and humility.
Fr Francis Chiadi,OP Provincial Promoter, Dominican Family, Dominican Province of St Joseph the Worker (Nigeria and Ghana) posited that the visit is a catalyst for entrenching the culture of excellence among young students.

I'll Be Answerable To God If I Keep Quiet About Makinde’s Support For Islam – Oloso (Watch the video.)

A renowned Islamic scholar, Professor Kamil Koyejo Oloso, has said that he will be answerable to God if he fails to speak about the goodness of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to Muslims in the state.
Oloso, who is the Wakil Mumini of Oyo State, said in an interview that no past administration in the state had been as supportive of Muslims and Islam as Makinde’s administration has been.
He added that all the injustices experienced by Oyo State Muslims in the past had been corrected by Governor Makinde.
According to Oloso, a Professor of Islamic Studies, the Muslim Community at the beginning had fears that Makinde might not be fair to Muslims, being a Christian. He, however, noted that the doubts dissipated at the first meeting the body had with the governor.

He said, “We were worried that being a Christian, he might want to marginalize the Muslim Community in the state. But when we met with him, he assured us that he would be fair to all. And he has been fair to the Muslim Community in the state.”
Buttressing his position, Professor Oloso mentioned the appointments of Muslims to key government positions, the approval of Hijrah Holiday as well as the employment of many Muslims during the recent recruitment exercise carried out by the state government, among others.

Professor Oloso added that the peace being experienced in the state could be attributed to the fairness of Governor Makinde to all and sundry.

I once watched a media conference of Obama while he was president and the phone of one of the journalist rang, Obama saw the funny side of it. I work with high level political dignitaries and my phone has rang once too in a meeting the governor was seated and it was loud. Nothing happened, he just looked at my direction and moved on with the meeting.

And besides, the person whose phone rang might be a first timer. I think the action of the Pastor was a bit drastic

Ondo Farmers Slash Price of Eggs, Hail Tinubu, Aiyedatiwa Over Distribution of 1,200 Metric Tonnes Grain Palliatives

The Ondo state chapter of Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria has revealed that it has reduced the price of a crate of eggs from N5,000 to N3,000 from the farms.

This, according to them, was due to the distribution of 1,200 metric tonnes of grains and commodities as palliatives to its members by the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in Akure on Monday.

Olawande Fadipe, Ondo state chairman of Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria, disclosed the price reduction while speaking at the distribution of the grains and commodities to farmers in Owo local government on Thursday.

Fadipe expressed satisfaction and gratitude to the President and Ondo state governor for the intervention.

According to him, "We want to thank the President and Mr Governor for this kind gesture. Recently, poultry farmers have been finding it difficult to operate because of rising costs of animal feeds, and day-old chicken but with this intervention, we can go back to our businesses and make profits"

In the same vein, southwest chairman of Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria, Gideon Oluleye, said the distribution of the grains would enable poultry farmers produce healthy chickens and eggs as well as stabilize poultry products across the markets in Ondo state.

Performing the distribution ceremony in Owo, the Ondo state deputy governor, Olayide Adelami, who represented the state governor, said the essence of the grains was to help boost poultry farming and ensure access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food in the state.

While thanking the president for the initiative, he implored the beneficiaries to use the grains for the purpose they are meant for.

"The distribution of free grains was deliberately done to crash prices of food items and ease the burden of Nigerians due to the current economic situation. Rest assured, Governor Aiyedatiwa will do everything within his power to ensure ondo state people enjoy the dividends of good governance and quick government's interventions in their specific area of needs" Adelami affirmed.

PoliticsAkeredolu: Makinde Mourns Says His Death Is A Sad Loss To Yorubaland And Nigeria by Rockyheight(op): 4:34pm On Dec 27, 2023
Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has expressed sadness over the death of Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

Makinde, in a statement made available on Wednesday, stated that the death of the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is a sad loss to Yorubaland and Nigeria.
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to his wife, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the entire family, and the Government and people of Ondo State.

Describing Akeredolu, who until his death was the chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, as a dogged and courageous leader, the Oyo State governor said Aketi, as he was fondly called, worked hard with his colleague-governors for the peace, prosperity and progress of South-West states.

He said: “I received with great sadness the news of the death of my brother, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, the governor of Ondo State and chairman, South-West Governors’ Forum.
“I condole with his wife and children as well as the Government and people of Ondo State over this sad loss. In Aketi, South-West has lost a dogged fighter and courageous leader who worked hard for the peace, prosperity and progress of the region.

“I have also lost a worthy co-fighter for the South-West cause because we were both at the vanguard of the struggle, which birthed the South-West Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun.

“Aketi’s fervent and unrelenting stance on issues that border on South-West’s regional integration and progress is a lesson for leaders. He will be sorely missed.
“Rest well, my dear brother and may the good Lord be with everyone you left behind.”

PoliticsWould Tinubu As Governor Have Accepted The Directives To Fubara? Emmanuel Aziken by Rockyheight(op): 10:29am On Dec 23, 2023
Would Tinubu As Governor Have Accepted The Directives To Fubara? By Emmanuel Aziken

President Bola Tinubu has been a fighter on both sides in the contestation of power between the presidency and governors.

Last Monday and for the umpteenth time since his inauguration as president, Tinubu more than ever before brought to the fore his determination to use his new podium in the presidency to dominate his environment.

We have seen this attitude in the deification of the president by praise singers who have elevated Tinubu’s political anthem (On Your Mandate) to compete with the national anthem at state occasions.

In the latest example of the contestation for power, as was seen with Simi Fubara, the neophyte governor from Rivers State, we saw the governor surrender the patchy victories he had recently won last Monday at the sight of the president.

Before his presidency, Tinubu had also fought assiduously on the side of the governors against the encroachment of the powers of the states by the presidency.

It was while fighting from that position that he took the Olusegun Obasanjo presidency to court on a surfeit of issues in furtherance of the autonomy of the states.

Whether it was his personal revulsion of Obasanjo or for some other reasons, Tinubu took his spat to the extra level of regularly boycotting meetings of governors with the President. His appearances at such interactions between Obasanjo and governors were an exception.

It was in that pace that Tinubu became one of the few governors even among the opposition governors who opposed the third term amendment that would have ordinarily given them and the president another term in office.

In fact, Tinubu’s opposition to the third term amendment was a striking chunk for his beautification as one of the mainstays of democratic culture in the country.

However, having acquired his dream job of president, all eyes are now on Tinubu to sustain the legacy he built as a defender of federalism that was at the core of his battles with President Obasanjo while he was governor

Indeed, it is inconceivable to believe that Tinubu as governor would have submitted himself to such a parley as he presided over last Monday where he adjudicated between a sitting governor and his predecessor.

Indeed, Fubara had arrived last Monday night’s meeting with a bounce after bringing his predecessor, Wike to his knees. For doing that, the governor had won some popularity among Wike haters, particularly in Rivers State.

As it turned out in his adjudication, or presidential directive as one witness said, Tinubu turned back all the losses suffered by Wike and his protegees.

However, what has astounded many is the constitutional basis for the revisions that were decreed at that meeting.

Some of the decisions like the directive to re-present the 2024 budget proposal make a mockery of the democracy.

Some of the decisions are also seen as unconstitutional. How do you return the 25 or so lawmakers who violated the constitution by defecting and automatically losing their seats back as lawmakers?

A witness at the parley revealed that when the issue of the lawmakers who abandoned the PDP for the APC came up President Tinubu said that as the national leader of the APC, he could not see himself rejecting the lawmakers from the APC.

As it was told, the president laughed over it, saying that asking the lawmakers to return to the PDP would be like a father disowning his own children.

The witness, Hon David Briggs, a former chairman of Akuko-Toru Local Government Area has now revealed to the nation that what was claimed as an agreement between Fubara and Wike was more of a presidential directive that the president forced down the governor’s throat.

That several of the decisions reached at that meeting are contrary to the constitution brings to the fore the regard to which Nigerians would value our legal charter over the person of the president.

Indeed, the protest in Port-Harcourt yesterday by the coalition of workers, students, and civil society groups against the peace AGREEMENT reached between Governor Fubara and the camp of his predecessor, Wike is reflective of the popularity that Fubara has gained by distancing himself from his political mentor, Wike.

While Wike may have performed in building projects around Rivers State while he was governor, it is increasingly becoming clear that political projects are a different sort.

President Tinubu trying to help the former governor to build a political project on the head of the incumbent governor is clearly not working and it would be best for Tinubu to return to the years of his constitutional advocacy. Otherwise, the garlands that brought him forward could be enmeshed in a sullied legacy.

PoliticsRivers Assembly Crisis: Court Stops INEC From Conducting By-elections by Rockyheight(op): 10:39am On Dec 18, 2023
The Federal High Court in Abuja has barred Nigeria’s electoral commission, INEC, from organising by-elections to replace 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly whose seats were declared vacant.

Donatus Okorowo, the judge, gave the order on Friday but PREMIUM TIMES got a copy of the ruling on Sunday night.

A factional speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, last Wednesday declared vacant the seats of 27 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While Mr Ehie is being backed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the 27-member faction led by Martin Amaewhule is loyal to Nyesom Wike, a former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Messrs Siminalayi and Wike are locked in a fierce political battle over the control of Rivers State political structure in the PDP, which the FCT minister accuses his successor of destroying.

Mr Ehie had secured an interim order through an ex-parte application from the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, enabling him and three of his colleagues who are loyal to Governor Fubara to do legislative business without interference from the Amaewhule-led faction.

An ex-parte application is one that does not require the participation of all sides before a decision can be taken by the court.

However, in a bid to forestall any by-elections from being held to fill their seats, the Wike-backed faction of the lawmakers through their lawyer, Peter Onuh, in an ex-parte request filed on 13 December, urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain the Rivers State House of Assembly, INEC, and the PDP from taking actions that could undermine their rights.

Also, Mr Amaewhule and his group who are the applicants in the suit, prayed the court to restrain the State Security Service (SSS), the Inspector General of Police and the Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly from depriving them of their rights as lawmakers, including withdrawal of police security.

Ruling
In the interim ruling on Friday, the judge, Mr Okorowo, restrained INEC and the Rivers parliament “from declaring vacant or taking any steps whatsoever to declare the seats of the plaintiffs at the Rivers State House of Assembly.”

“An interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the 1st defendant (INEC) from conducting fresh elections to fill the seats of the plaintiffs (the 27 lawmakers) in the Rivers State House of Assembly, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

The judge barred the six defendants in the case from interfering with the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from conducting their legislative duties as speaker, deputy speaker and members of the parliament.

Mr Okorowo restrained the Inspector-General of Police and the SSS “from denying or refusing to provide security to the plaintiffs or withdrawing their security details.”

Thereafter, the judge adjourned the suit until 28 December for hearing.

Background
The political crisis in Rivers threw up a new twist last week when Governor Fubara, at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, presented the state’s 2024 appropriation bill to a four-member faction of the parliament.

The state High Court had paved the way for the four lawmakers when it restrained the Amaewhule-led group from interfering with the responsibilities of the Governor Fubara-backed legislators.

In October, the assembly split into two factions because of an attempt by some lawmakers to remove Governor Fubara from office.

In the ensuing power tussle, a section of the State House of Assembly complex was bombed by hoodlums.

This newspaper reported that the split was caused by the political tussle between Messrs Fubara and Wike.

Mr Wike had at the March governorship election in Rivers helped Mr Fubara win the election. But six months into the new administration, the two politicians in the oil-rich south-south State fell apart.

Martin Amaewhule is the speaker of the 27-member faction which is loyal to Mr Wike.

Mr Ehie, a former leader of the assembly who was removed for refusing to endorse Governor Fubara’s impeachment, later emerged speaker of the faction loyal to the governor.

The two factions have held parallel plenary sessions at different locations in Port Harcourt.

PoliticsRivers Crisis Is Not An Ethnic War Me And My Team Will Accept Peace - Wike by Rockyheight(op): 7:40am On Dec 18, 2023
Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), says his political team in Rivers state will not allow anyone to “drag” it down.

Wike spoke on Sunday while addressing the traditional rulers of Ogbaland who visited him at his Port Harcourt residence.

The traditional rulers led by Nwachukwu Nnam-Obi III, visited Wike to congratulate him on the occasion of his 56th birthday.

The monarchs sued for peace over the political crisis in the state.

Over the past few weeks, Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, and Wike have been at loggerheads over control of the political structure of the state.

The feud between the duo snowballed to the Rivers house of assembly, causing factions in the state’s legislature.

At least nine commissioners have resigned from the cabinet of Fubara amid the political crisis.

'WE’LL ACCEPT PEACE’

While addressing the traditional rulers, Wike said he and his team would accept peace regarding the political crisis in the state, adding that they will not involve in violence.

The former governor said the crisis in the state is not an “ethnic war”, adding that residents did not vote based on ethnicity in the March governorship election.

No politician will fold his hands and allow to be dragged down,” Wike said.

“I and my team would accept peace but we won’t allow ourselves to be dragged down because when we go down, who will protect our people. Who will talk about our own interest.”

The FCT minister warned that politicians should not destroy the “ladder” they used to get to exalted positions.

He added that in every social group , there are rules and regulations guilding the behaviour of members.

“In everywhere you are, even in the traditional institutions, there are rules. You can’t run away from it. In a political group, there are rules,” he added.

“You cannot say that because an Oba has emerged and then an Oba will not follow the rules of the traditional institution.

“No! An Oba will always obey the rules. So also in politics, there are things you must not do and there are things you must do.

“Don’t pull the ladder that you use in climbing. When you are coming down, the ladder may not be there.

“Also leave the ladder so that other people can also climb the ladder.”

PoliticsGov. Fubara Promises To Make Rivers State University One Of The Best by Rockyheight(op): 6:14pm On Dec 16, 2023
...To release approved grants to the university
...Assures of improved education to support development

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has promised to provide necessary financial and other levels of support that will strengthen the capacity of the Rivers State University (RSU) to rank as one of the best in Nigeria.

Sir Fubara made the promise at the 35th convocation ceremony of the Rivers State University that took place at the Convocation Arena of the institution in Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The governor said the promised support is borne out of the fact that education serves as the cornerstone for a firm, equitable and progressive society that is desired by Rivers State.

"Bear in mind that funding is a problem, not just to this university system but also to governance. But as you all know, education is the cornerstone of a firm, equitable and progressive society.

"Therefore, we will continue to do our best to finance our university. Our commitment to make RSU one of the best in this country is a target and a process we have just started today."

Governor Fubara noted with delight the result-oriented approach adopted by the leadership of RSU to achieving the record of successes being celebrated including securing full accreditation for all programmes in the institution despite the challenges.

"Let me commend the VC for his innovation, and result-oriented approach to the administration of this university. Let me promise this university community that the grant approved but not released will be released by Monday, 18th Dec. 2023.

"The essence of our commitment to education development is reflected in our 2024 budget where it received the third highest allocation.

"Let me, therefore, assure you that we will disburse a fair share of these resources to address the University's most critical challenges, including support for the full and effective development of the new campuses, the provision of a stable power supply, the building of student hostels, and effective CCTV coverage to enhance safety and security in the campuses."

Giving his address, Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Prof Nlerum Okogbule said a total of 6,326 graduates were conferred with first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy.

Prof. Okogbule informed that all 24 programmes in the university have full accreditation, the admission quota for the medicine and surgery programmes increased from 100 to 200 students; that of nursing and midwifery also increased from 50 to 100 and that all of the university’s four satellite campuses are in full operation.

In his remark, the Chancellor of the University, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad 1, who is also the Emir of Lafia Bare-Bari and Chairman of Nassarawa State Council of Chiefs, demanded adequate funding of tertiary institutions so as to strengthen them to undertake research that addresses the developmental needs of Nigeria.

PoliticsFuel Subsidy Removal: Oyo Constitutes Salary Review Committee by Rockyheight(op): 8:48pm On Jun 05, 2023
In consonance with his proactive approach to governance, Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, has constituted a committee to review workers’ wages in the state.

The committee which was constituted during a meeting with labour leaders in the state at the Executive Chambers, has eight weeks to turn in its report.

Governor Makinde said following the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), it became imperative for the government to take another look at the salary structure to cushion its effects on workers.

He said, “For us, with all sincerity, I think it is time to engage and ensure that we are proactive, irrespective of what is coming from the federal level. We are already prepared for it here and we can run our own programmes.

“Yes, the fuel subsidy removal is going to affect all of us but we do have control over certain things in Oyo State, and one of these is to be proactive and engage ourselves. They may call for strike or certain actions at the federal level but the labour leaders in Oyo State must be aware of our own situation.

“So, we must appreciate the fact that our economy is fragile. We must be proactive and set the tone without prejudice to whatever negotiation that is happening at the federal level.”

At the meeting attended by Oyo State chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kayode Martins and his Trade Union Congress counterpart, Olatunbosun Olabiyi, the governor also said, “I can say it to the whole world that in Oyo State there is no trust deficit between the government and labour leaders. It actually goes both ways. If we agree on what to do, I don’t look back, and if you have my commitment on anything, you should not look back. Whatever that is happening at the national level should not create any trust deficit between us. So, I welcome you all to Omituntun 2.0.”

The Governor also seized the opportunity to express his appreciation to the Labour leaders for their support during his first term in office.

In his reaction, the NLC chairman said minimum wage review was overdue. He then called on the state government to work towards its quick realization.

PoliticsMusic Commends Makinde Over Adogba Mosque by Rockyheight(op): 4:50pm On Mar 13, 2023
The Muslim Rights Concern has expressed satisfaction and appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for removing his name from the signboard.

Recall that the Islamic group, on Saturday, criticized the governor for naming the mosque that he demolished and rebuilt after him.

The governor reportedly gave orders for the removal on Sunday, following Saturday’s protest.

MURIC in a statement obtained by MOUTHPIECE NGR on Monday commended Makinde in a statement by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

He said: “reports reaching MURIC’s Lagos headquarters say Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has removed his name from the signboard of Adogba Central Mosque, Iwo Road, Ibadan.

“Recall that Adogba Central Mosque was demolished by the Makinde administration in 2020, despite our protestations. The governor promised to rebuild it, and it was recently rebuilt. But the governor renamed the mosque after himself, and MURIC asked him to remove his name.

“We advised him to delete his name and leave the mosque’s original name there before the fast-approaching gubernatorial election of Saturday, March 18, 2023, in order to avoid protest votes from Muslims in the state.

“The state branch of MURIC has confirmed that the governor’s name has been removed from the inscription on the mosque, which now reads ‘Adogba Central Mosque’. This was done yesterday, March 12th, 2023.”

“We appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde for complying with MURIC’s advice. MURIC may be radical, but it is rational. We affirm that we are not confrontational or militant. Neither of us are unnecessarily difficult to relate to once the relationship is based on mutual respect and no attempt is made to trample on the Allah-given fundamental rights of Muslims.

“We believe that the adherents of different religions can peacefully coexist in this country and work together towards making Nigeria great.”

“May Allah continue to protect and bless Governor Seyi Makinde. We are satisfied with the removal of his name from the mosque. No more bitter feelings, no more distrust. MURIC will continue to pursue cordial relations with both government and private institutions in Nigeria as long as they continue to give Muslims their rights and dues and as long as they allow their actions to be guided by the principles of equity, fairness, and justice,” Akintola said.

PoliticsFolarin, Lam Adesina, Others Pelted With Stones At Gate Spare Part Market by Rockyheight(op): 8:45pm On Feb 02, 2023
It was a show of shame on Wednesday as candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo state (APC), Senator Teslim Folarin, Former member of House of Representatives, who is also seeking a re-election, Dapo Lam Adesina, and other candidates of the opposition party received the greatest shock of their lives as they were disgraced by traders at the Gate Spare part market where they had gone to campaign.

According to an eyewitness, Sunday Akande, who is a tyre dealer, said the campaign train of senator Teslim Folarin had gone to the market to solicits for votes. However, they got more than what they bargained for as they were seriously embarrassed with the chants of “Ebin Palu” and called the party Afebi Pani People’s party as stones and other dangerous missiles were hurled at them by traders who refused to listen to what they have to say.

To further show their displeasure and frustration, the traders also threw sachet water at them but for the timely intervention of the security aides who quickly ushered them into their vehicles as they scampered for safety. The incident which according to sources would have been fatal.

Akande further stated that the frustration expressed by the people is as a result of the hardship inflicted on the poor masses by the APC government at the Federal level.

He equally said that Senator Folarin who had been to the senate thrice, and a one time senate leader has nothing to show in terms of bringing development to Oyo state or his senatorial district.

He emphasized that the current senator and APC governorship candidate has nothing worthy to say to them rather than the usual lies.

However, on his part, another trader, Mukaila Animashaun noted that if not for the way Governor Seyi Makinde has governed the state, things would have been so terrible in Oyo state, adding that Seyi Makinde has done creditably well particularly during the COVID-19 era when APC states were shut down, Governor Makinde resisted the pressure to do same in Oyo state thereby saving lives and businesses.

Animashaun maintained that the traders at the Spare part market have all resolved to vote en-mass for the re-election of Governor Seyi Makinde and that they are waiting for the campaign train of the goverbor so that they can fully express their love and support for him.

He also noted that his second term in office would bring prosperity and development to Oyo state especially now that the country is going through difficult time.

PoliticsShow Up, It's Getting Too Late, Makinde Media Team Charges Oppositions . by Rockyheight(op): 6:19pm On Jan 16, 2023
The chairman of the Seyi Makinde Re-election Media Team, prince Dotun Oyelade has appealed to the APC and the ACCORD gubernatorial candidates not to abandon the campaign train to the sitting governor Seyi Makinde alone.

According to the press release, governor Makinde in the past 6 weeks had engaged in numerous visits to all the corners of the state beginning with Reconciliation and Town Hall briefings to every zone and is currently consolidating with the traditional campaign rallies to mop up the ground in spite of his unprecedented achievements.

The campaign team therefore urged the opposition not to give up too soon and engage the space of political theatre.

The release recall that the fact that governor Makinde won with almost 200,000 votes in 2019 when he had no antecedent and no heavyweights backing him does not mean that the opposition must abdicate their constitutional responsiblities.

Prince Oyelade reminded the opposition that in the last few weeks to the election, the Army of youths, students, pensioners, traders, artisans, civil servants and market women including housewives will takeover the GSM campaign network and ensure that even in the *Impossible* event that Chief Adelabu reconciles with senator Folarin, Gov makinde will still win by the highest possible margin in the history of gubernatorial elections in oyo state.

PoliticsOyo PDP : Makinde And The Departure Of Political Deadweights // Omolere Omoetan by Rockyheight(op): 7:09am On May 11, 2022
Oyo PDP : Makinde And The Departure of Political Deadweights // Omolere Omoetan

It is said that Politics and Democracy are games of numbers hence the common saying that the majority carries the day. During an election, every vote counts as a single vote can be the tie breaker which tips the scales in a candidate's favour.

However, in as much as every individual is considered important in the concept of Democracy and Politics, there are times when the chaff will be separated from the wheat. Call it self-cleansing if you like, the fact is that winnowing needs to occur either as a consequence of natural phenomenon or a deliberate process.

The recent decamping of certain "Aggrieved and Politically Inconsequential members" of the People's Democratic Party to various Parties of their choice, took a long time coming, but was not unexpected. Their departure is a classic example of a winnowing process through a natural phenomenon. Now that the chaffs have been separated from the wheat, the PDP in Oyo state is set to consolidate it's dominance under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde. It is better to go into a battle with a few committed soldiers, than a mix multitude of egotistic and overrated individuals.

While not downplaying the political abilities of a few in their midst, however most seem to have an hyperbolic impression of themselves and need to be brought back to earth with a resounding thud.

Fact is, most of the so called Aggrieved Members have no relevance politically or electorally. Obviously, that's why the governor and the party hierarchy at the state and national levels didn't take them too seriously. What they did, while in PDP, was to draw relevance from attacking the governor. Now that they have removed themselves, we wait to see how mighty they are or will become.

They didn't just give up their membership of the party, they did so a long time ago. Their rebellion was birthed when they chose to fight with the leader of the PDP in the state.

Though they claimed to be experienced in politics, they failed the simple test of knowing the difference between a Prince and a king. Seyi Makinde the Candidate ( Prince), and Seyi Makinde the Governor ( king), are two different persons.

If they are Politically savvy as they claimed, they would have known that the rules of engagement for a Prince is different from that of a King, It is their inability to discern the difference that has pushed them to the precipice, and they have now taken a political plunge that is bound to end in regrets.

These decampees included people who recently got acquainted with politics and those who have been for a while without any meaningful impact; those who have serially lost every election they took part in. Some even lost elections as recently as 2019, while others became an item because their names got mentioned in the same sentence with Governor Makinde.

The truth is that the political strength of these so called party heavy weights are limited to their single vote. All Motion, no Mass. They have been weighed in the balance and they came up short.

If one were to carefully analyse the quality of those who recently left the PDP on the basis of their political or electoral value, it will be out of magnanimity and excessive generosity that they will be considered as paper weights

It will be recalled that upon the conclusion of the Oyo State PDP Congress and National Convention wherein winners emerged, the purported internal wranglings within the Oyo PDP should have been over with everyone knowing their place in the scheme of things.

His victory notwithstanding, the Governor of Oyo state, His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde, in his usual magnanimous and self-effacing manner, did not rub it on the faces of his traducers. Rather, he urged the newly-elected executives of the party in the state to seek reconciliation with the so-called aggrieved members to move the party forward. The governor made reasonable efforts to reconcile with them, yet they spurned his extended hand of fellowship.

Chief amongst them, is a certain self-acclaimed leader, who before now, had not achieved anything politically. Someone who never held an office, either elected or appointed, yet for some queer reasons, thinks he is the Mojo that brought Makinde to the Government House.

Makinde is God's project, and no one can rule over a people without God saying so. That these set of Party members were part of the process doesn't make them the beginning and the end. Now that they have left, they will come to the realization that the Almighty only used them as a tool towards achieving an objective. Come 2023, God will do it again in a grandiose way without them. Perhaps then, they will comprehend that there is a God who is interested in the affairs of men and has chosen Seyi Makinde.

Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, within the space of three years, has written his name in the hearts of the people of Oyo state. He needs no one to market him before them. His good deeds are evident in every sector of the state, and his pact is with the People of Oyo state who he has promised to serve, not with "Belly First" Politicians.

Eagerly, the people are waiting to say thank you to his Excellency with their votes, come 2023.

Seyi Makinde lekan si!!!
