Businessmen deny Newcastle links Johann Rupert Rupert is reported to be the richest man in South Africa Three South African businessmen linked with a possible £300m takeover of Newcastle have denied any interest. Billionaire Johann Rupert told BBC Sport he had "absolutely no interest and no knowledge" of any takeover and had never met any of those involved. Brian Joffe and Vivian Imerman also denied being part of the consortium. Jonathan Cleland, spokesman for the anonymous consortium, said he was 80% confident of sealing a deal and had spoken to Kevin Keegan about returning. Rupert, the executive chairman of a Swiss-owned luxury goods company, is reported to be the richest man in South Africa. He told BBC Radio 5 Live he was bemused and amazed by the reports linking him with the Premier League club. "I have never met Mr Cleland, never spoken to him on the phone and my secretary does not have a record of him calling," he said. "I haven't spoken to any of the other parties either. I don't know Mr Cleland, I have a preference for cricket and rugby. I don't know anything about football and I'm not a football man. "I think it is a bit naughty. They use your name, you deny it - it is a total joke." Imerman, a former owner of canned food group Del Monte who has since bought into Scottish whisky producer Whyte and Mackay, issued a statement to make his position clear. A spokesman said: "Vivian Imerman can re-confirm that he has no involvement whatsoever with any proposed purchase of Newcastle United nor any other football club." Joffe, founder of investment holding firm Bidvest, joined them in dismissing the rumours. Interim boss Joe Kinnear revealed on Thursday that as many as eight consortia have been in talks with owner Mike Ashley about buying the Magpies. The South African group were considered to be the frontrunners - with their interest in former manager Keegan making them popular with the fans. 606: DEBATE Give your thoughts on the potential takeover Cleland, who declined to comment on Rupert's comments, earlier confirmed he had met Keegan in Manchester on Monday but admitted there was still a lot of negotiating to do. "He is our preferred option, but we cannot make any concrete decisions on the managerial position until negotiations on our planned takeover are further advanced," he said. Cleland and his partners claim to have lodged a bid for the club with investment bankers Seymour Pierce, who have been appointed by Ashley to sell it. They and other interested parties have been asked to sign a confidentiality clause. Keegan may be offered a 5% stake in the club in a bid to persuade him to return for a third spell at the helm. source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7649200.stm |

obatoro: 1.(this illiterate and wicked Hausa/Yoruba government )- an illiterate is one who could not read or write and one of the tribes you referred to as illiterate own this site. Owning this site does not make one educated!! This is the 3rd time somebody is using this site to prove Yorubas superiority in education over others, but that is so dumb of you people trying to take the credit of SMF. obatoro: 3.(This is why i still believe that only, and i repeat, only an Igbo president will take bold steps )- presidents are supposed to be elected, you know how difficult it always is for igbos to step down for one candidate to clearly emerge. You're a confirmed dumbass! no need talking about it!! PiMp_jUiCe: truth is i try not to be tribalstic at times, but when a frustrated tribalistic man starts generalising then we got serious problems to deal with, for u to generalise that yorubas and hausas are in a sort of alliance against the ibos only goes to show ur own ignorance. here's a little lesson from hstoryy.
if u r one of those who believe awolowo and d yorubas betrayed the ibos during biafra then maybe u should ask ojukwu why he invited awolowo to come join him in a war awolowo was not prepared to fight. what would u have him do? join u in a war u planned and were prepared for. he was too smart for all that. no businessman will invest in a business he's not sure of,
then the issue of obasanjo, ask ur fathers who are conversant with history, obasanjo is a well known bastard yoruba man, he has been since awolowo summoned all yoruba top ranking military officers to brief them of ojukwu's pland and sought their opinion, Obajo was first to raise his hand to speak, quoting him, he said, " i swore to defend the integrity of the nigerian nation not yoruba nation", i guess that explains why he and the awoist will never agree on anything, he didnt even win the presidential primary in front of his house in 1999, yet he had sweeping victory in iboland. what the Bleep are u now talking about, oh boi don't bleeping talk about my people like u fcukingknow them inside out because u don't bleeping know ish. and truth is it wont bleeping go down well with some of us who have a little knowledge of how Nigeria was and has been. u should be blaming ojukwu for not being a good strategist, bleeping idiots, una don make me curse mor dan i ihave done n the last year, mad men Please it's called "IGBO and not Ibo" or would you prefer i call you Onye "Iyoruba" |

Kobojunkie: This bridge is not just important to the ibos but to all Nigerians. If we all do nothing to ensure this bridge does not go down, what good is the bickering and the fighting for? The deterioration did not start today and yap all you want, it will not stop tommorow.
