Tomi's tragedy began the day this terrible ailment started its evil work. She had received a phone call from one of her colleagues at work when she found out that she could not voice out anything, The caller was getting impatient, The line went dead and Tomi was still wondering what went wrong with her voice. She had talked several times since she returned from the hospital. She ran to the stairs and woke a sleeping David. David cried his eyes out when he discovered his wife couldn't talk anymore. Tomi sheded uncontrollable tears. She buried herself under the covers and wailed in sorrow.

David called his secretary and ordered her to cancel the appointments and meetings for the day and the next. He barked at his secretary which confirmed his secretary's suspicion that something was definitely wrong. Mr David Dominic she knew wasn't that type that canceled meetings anyhow. She hoped everything was alright. She wasn't ready to talk behind the cameras. she sighed and returned to her work.

David made Noddles and egg for his wife before driving out. He parked carefully in his father's compound and alighted. He had a dangerous look on his face. He stormed into the sitting room and found his father reading some dailys. Mr Dominic stole an awkward glance at his son, David, understanding fully well what his father meant reluctantly greeted him. He sat down and gawked at his father.

"David, No one needs to remind you of your work and your meetings scheduled for today, what are you doing in my house unannounced" Mr Dominic asked with a raised voice. He rolled his big eyeballs at his son and watched him closely. He knew something was wrong.

David summoned courage and explained to his father what suddenly struck his wife that morning, he had been expecting it since the doctor told him but he was shocked it just happened today. Mr Dominic calmed him down and explained to him that it was a matter of time. David brought the idea of flying her abroad but Mr Dominic dismissed the idea immediately with the excuse that the news and rumors would tell on the recent contract he was pursuing. David wondered if his dad's career was more important than his family. He shrugged and said his goodbye to his dad. He made a mental note to hire an house help soon. if only he knew what his next step would cost his marriage.

Becca rolled from one side of the bed to another, She wished Korede was around. She had been feeling uneasy since 10:00pm the last night. She wailed in pains, She alerted her house help that she was feeling uneasy, her house help sensed she was in labour. She rushed to Mrs Oladipo's room and informed her Becca was in labour. The woman groaned and warned her not to disturb her.
"To hell with you and your madam" She roared and lucked the door.
Ronke rushed downstairs to inform the gateman so she could be driven to the hospital. Ronke searched for the key to the car Korede left behind. She then remembered Mrs Oladipo drove it out to a party the previous noon. She banged the door but Mrs Oladipo refused to open. Becca slumped on the floor and wailed in pains. She regretted ever having a mother-in-law, she silently prayed to God to spare her life, she was passing out slowly. Ronke continued banging the door. The gateman hurried to the neighbors's gate. Hope it wasn't too late.

"Who are you and how did you get in here?" Tomi asked looking bewildered
The young man well dressed in suit smiled and walked to the bar, he sat down leg crossed and was about to pick the remote control when Tomi snatched the goblet from his hands and faced him.
"Young man, what is your mission here, you are a total stranger"
"Did I just hear you say a total stranger?I heard you've given birth to my son and I have come not to take him away but for him to know his father, am sorry about the accident and the scar on your forehead and am sorry you had an emergency delivery" He said, Figment of concern creased in his face, Tomi saw this but she refused to comprehend what he was saying.
"Your son?" she asked
"My son, our son, eight months ago, one of your honeymoon nights"
Tomi's mind flashed back to the rape scene, he was the rapist.

"oh! poor Dan! he hasn't had anything to eat" She muttered as she opened the door to the nursery. She pulled the baby to herself, Daniel sucked quietly. Tomi stole a glance at her baby. she now knew who he resembled.
Outside the big mansion of the junior Dominics, Jackie's boys watched and took note of the man and the car that wheeled away some minutes ago, their investigations were going wider, now, they would have something to feed Jackie with. They smiled at the clear picture of Gbenga they took as he stormed out of the house and they picture of him about to enter his Lexus white jeep. They would sure get to the root of the matter. they vowed and zoomed off.

Helen picked a pillow and scurried out of the room, Patrick followed suit, Patrick held her back.
"What's your problem, can't I catch some sleep?" Helen pouted
"Not when It is questioned! I still have the right to make love to you, Stella wasn't the woman I wedded with my body" Patrick snapped back
"May I remind you that we are no more in Holy Matrimony, the moment you slept with Stella under this same roof you deflowered me, Patrick, you killed my love for you, Be expecting some files soon, I am ready to divorce after my first baby" Helen dropped the bombshell and hurried away into the guestroom, Two fat tears rolled down Patrick's sagged cheeks, He was going to lose his wife, quite right but not his baby. He sworn to fight with the last drip of his blood to get his child from Helen.

"We shall meet in court" Patrick found his scattered wits and said. He drawled the drapes of the curtain and watched the stars sharing in his sorrow. The stars dimmed faintly, He watched with huge sorrow in his soul.

Helen stretched on the soft bed, She stood up and watched her face, She stripped herself and examined her breasts and the bulge in her stomach, She would do anything to keep the baby hers, She thought of the last statement Patrick said the previous night, She was beginning to doubt his love for her, if he really loved her, why would he bring a strange woman just few weeks after their wedding, this was the main reason she wouldn't leave her darling child to a father like Patrick. She vowed to deal with Patrick with every nerve in her body, She lifted her left breasts and smiled at the size, she had changed so much. She fastened the robe to herself and dashed into the kitchen to have a quick breakfast of tomato sauce and sliced bread with omelette. She washed her mouth and had her breakfast, it was during the meal it dawned to her that she had to go to the clinic for antenatal. She had been warned severally by the midwives and nurses to stay closer to the clinic since she was almost due putting to bed. She ensured she left absolutely nothing for Patrick to get his tongue and teeth busy with. She strolled to the bathroom to have a warm bathe.


Suddenly, Patrick heard a loud thud at the bathroom. He ran to the room where the thud came from. He was more than shocked when he found his wife soaked in a pool of blood. oh! she slipped over the water.

Tomi got discharged weeks later, she received cards, greetings and visitations from families and friends, except Lady Jackie. Her son also survived it and was secretly brought home, She didn't want the press to know she had a premature baby. She took time in taking care of her baby who turned out to resemble no one in particular , not even David. Trouble set in when Jackie came visiting and saw that the family mark which was supposed to be on the baby's arm wasn't anywhere near or around. The mark was supposed to be passed to any son or daughter of the Dominic's lineage. Jackie became suspicious of tomi that very day, She secretly hired her boys to take Tomi at a close range.

Meanwhile, Tomi was still receiving some strange messages leaving the paternity of her son open to questions. She vowed to see to the end of the messages and she did but not an episode she would forget in her lifetime.

That fateful Saturday, Tomi dressed Daniel, her son and laid him asleep in the nursery, She got herself busy with some chores and wasn't aware of the knocks at the door, she got downstairs and was shocked by the sight that greeted her.

The pictures of her incubated baby were seen posted on social media, David couldn't comprehend the fact that the doctor reported his dear wife wouldn't talk for some weeks. How would he be coping with a wife that can't talk till God knows when? What answers would he provide for the hungry lions, He bowed his bushy head as he finished seventh brandy he was taking. He just couldn't help but drink. His life was totally like scattered packs of card.

"What?, what are my rings doing on your stinking fingers" Helen asked furiously, even the soul in her womb was boiling in anger, Helen raised her hand to slap her, Her hand was caught in mid air by a figure behind her, she turned to face her husband, A deep frown creased on Patrick's face, Stella smiled mischievously feeling like she had defeated Helen.
"If you dare raise your filthy hands on her, I'll beat you into a pulp right now" Patrick roared In rage
Stella stifled a laughter, She was enjoying the heat of thae moment, Helen's jaw dropped when Stella walked to Patrick and stood behind him, she never knew it was a two against one.

"It is to make the baby in your womb a boy, my son can't afford to train a girl" She said grinning sheeplishly, Becca couldn't believe her ears, She shook her head and walked into the bedroom, before she could lay on the bed, Her mother-in-law's voice reached her
"Don't forget to pound yam for me, with egusi soup"
Becca sighed and Crept under the duvet.

She didn't know she was taken by the cold hands of sleep, Her mother-in-law's voice woke her up and sent signals into her brain

Becca shrugged closer to Korede, She was not feeling sleepy, she could count the tickling of the clock, She got up and helped herself to a drink. She sad carefully on the firm plastic chair which seemed to be the only comfortable chair as she was heavily pregnant. She rubbed her pregnancy lightly as she sipped the drink, she was careful enough not to wake her husband who was sleeping like a cold log of wood. Becca smiled sweetly at her husband, she was interrupted by a knock on the door
"Who is knocking on the door by this time of the... " Before she could complete her statement, the door twisted to give way to her mother-in law, She arrogantly told Becca to go and sleep in the guest room as there were mosquitoes in her room, Becca wondered how an old woman would lie just to make her hone miserable for her, She had personally done the insecticidal spraying of the room in the afternoon, She lingered for a while and grabbed a pillow on the bed to lay her head on. Her husband's arm stopped her and she drifted her gaze to her mother in law.

"Mom, She's going nowhere, this is her matrimonial bedroom, we have a lot of rooms in this house" Korede said looking intrigued. Sleep was now far away from his eyes, he got up and stood facing his mother. Fear gripped Becca instantly, She could feel the baby in her womb react swiftly to the statement that came out of her mother in law's mouth. She gawked at her husband while her jaw dropped in amusement

Tomi was wheeled with a stretcher into the Lagos state teaching hospital, She was obviously unconscious, a call was put to her husband, The journalists and the news reporters were all around the corners of the hospital looking for ways to push words out of the busy nurses and doctors. Tomi Dominic accident was really a way to get readers interested in their papers.

David arrived minutes later, he was successful in trying to shun the lions, disappointment was written all over their faces. It came as a shock to David when the doctor came out and told him Tomi was to go under a forceful labour in order to survive. She was not yet due for labour. David was given a pen to sign the deed of agreement of having a premature baby, it would definitely be the talk of the town. He stared blankly at the paper and the pen before him, he was about to make the decision of either loosing his dear wife or saving the innocent baby.

Helen returned home very tired, she switched on the television. Patrick was at home but his attitude towards her was questionable, He always wore a face of guilt. It was obvious he had something itching him which was already forming a goose in his belly, Helen was sure he was dying of guilt, she knew the man she gave her heart to, she was hoping one day he would have the heart to talk to her, there was also something about Stella, she Was beginning to act like a rival. Her behavior was at the peak of further tolerance, What an alien and devil incarnate she was to make her feel like a prisoner in her own home. As Helen was watching a soap opera programme. She noticed her wedding rings were not on the table where she placed down, She was about lifting up the flower vase on the table in search of her wedding rings when she felt a tap on her shoulder
"Looking for these?" Stella questioned as she showed her the wedding rings well placed on her fourth finger. Helen heaved a sigh as the felt a sharp pain down her abdomen at the sight of her rings on Stella's finger.

"Well, that's expected since he isn't the paternal father of the baby i am crying, I will do everything to keep you little dear, I can't afford to subject myself to barrenness because of David's Status" She muttered and rubbed her belly lightly. She wasn't aware of the fuel tanker that wanted to cross to the other side of the road, The car hit her ruthlessly.
"Splash" The glasses screamed as they broke in pieces to her face. She wished herself safe in the forces of darkness that engulfed her world.

Kay drove to the clinic chatting with His wife, they arrived at the clinic just in time as the doctor was just coming back from morning rounds. They sat down and watched the doctor in his early fourties brought out her file. She explained to the doctor the signs she had been seeing lately, the doctor only nodded. He called a nurse to take her to the laboratory where the pregnancy test would be done, Becca shrieked when it was confirmed she was pregnant, she jumped on her husband and gave him a long tight hug, They drove back home chattering about who the baby would look like and its sex. Korede was very fulfilled. He stole a glance at his wife and smiled brilliantly at the soon to be mother of his kid.

David stormed out of the room and wheeled his Porsche out. He pulled up under a well branched tree and punched his phone
"Hello, She's pregnant, meet me tomorrow at the usual place to collect your balance, thanks and remember to keep your mouth sealed, you know how influential I am" David spoke into the mouthpiece and drove back to meet his pregnant wife.

Kay removed the covers and began pulling down his brief.He tickled her on the chin and she laughed heartily
"Naughty boy" Becca said as she wrapped her hands around Kay who was already on top of her

The next thing Stella heard was moans, she angrily stormed inside her Room and munched noisily on her chewing gum to ease her anger, she ruminated on the next line of action, she hinted Rita on WhatsApp about her plans, they successfully agreed on a plan to be carried out 2:00am in the midnight. cold hands of breeze closed her eyes and she drifted into the unknown. If only she knew it was a gift and take affair as Helen too was fully prepared for her.

Tomi wheeled to her Parent's residence. she pulled up in front of the duplex and got down. She knocked at the door thrice before the door made way. Risikat, Mrs Adetunji's housemaid opened it. Surprised creased in her face, she wondered what the new bride was up to in her parent's house so soon.Tomi finally broke the silence
"Risi, is mom home?"
"Yes aunty, She is but sleeping"
"Please just call my mom for me".
Risikat left and dashed into Mrs Adetunji's room, Tomi paced to and fro like a restless soul. She thought of how she could break the discovery to her mom. she was brought back to life when her mom chuckled.
" Tomilola, what are you doing here and why are you even dressed like this"Her mother questioned
Tomi's eyes drifted to Risikat and gawked at her for somr minutes. Mrs Adetunji got the message and told the girl to continue with the chores.
"Now, tell me, what happened? your face looks glooomy , how was your honeymoon?"
"By the way, what is wrong with your marriage, Its all over the gossip papers that you two had a terrible honeymoon, I was even thinking of visiting you one of these days"
" Mother, could you believe David issssss" She stressed the last word but found it difficult to say the next. Beads of tears trickled down her face. She stormed out of the house leaving a confused Mom and zoomed off sprewing dust in the air.

"sweetheart, A lady would be coming to spend a Month or two with us, she said she is tired of staying in her home, she leaves alone so please let us do her this favor" Patrick announced to Helen one evening while chilling at the balcony.
"A lady? why would she like to come to the home of newly weds" Helen questioned
"Sweet, Am sure you'll like her, you two will get along, Just accept her when she comes"
"Alright dear, so far she's cool with me, she might just be able to ease boredom when you chill out with your friends"


Patrick's phone beeped, he picked it on the fourth ring
"Hello" He spoke into the mouthpiece
"Patrick, have you told her about it?" Stella questioned
"Yes, I have"
"What was her response"
"You may come around provided you stay within your boundaries, listen good, I accepted your request because you ain't comfortable in your home, don't make me regret it"
" Of course not dearie, Be expecting me on Saturday morning"
"Goodbye" Patrick hung up and patted his wife's hair, Only if Helen knew trouble was coming over, she wouldn't have accepted the lady into her matrimonial home
"Dear, what did you say her name is"
"Stella Robinson"
"Who is she to you?" Helen asked taking a deep look at his face
"A friend" Patrick sighed and walked into the living room. He settled down to read one of the dailies.
Helen's mind just like a flash of lightning flashed to the scene at the hotel.
"She had better not be the lady at Exquisite" Helen silently said and punched her phone she dialed Sonia's number.
"Hello bride, cup" Sonia spoke from the other end
"Am cool o, Can we meet at the tasties this evening" Helen asked with a mixed feeling
"uuhnnnn"
"Please don't say no dear"
"Its alright, be prepared for a full gist about your honeymoon"
Helen hung up and changed into a Blue top over blue jean trousers
"Baby, I'll be back soon, have got to see a friend down the road" Helen announced and pressed a kiss to his lips. She dashed out before Patrick could respond.
Helen drove down the road and pulled up in front of the tasties. She was surprised when she found Sonia already waiting for her arrival. They settled down for a drink and Helen started purging out her mind. She told Sonia about the lady at the hotel with her husband to the decision of her husband now wanting to house a strange woman just a month after the wedding


Sonia carefully laid out a perfect plan and assured her friend, By the time they were through with the plan, Helen smiled and waved her friend off, she smiled savagely and zoomed off to her home.

"Look here, your father owns one of the biggest companies in Nigeria, he's a colonel, May you be reminded that your mother owns of the strongest Law firms in Nigeria and yet you cant even make love to a lady" Tomi added and walk away
"Tomi, We shall see to this matter"
"Dhor!" Tomi spite out at her husband.
David drove out of the house crazily and returned in the early hours of the morning drunk.

"Tell me the meaning of this" Jackie Dominic barged into the house and raged with the highest pitch of her voice. Tomi walked out of the room to face an angry Jackie, Jackie paced restlessly to and fro the sitting room
"I said tell me the meaning of this" Jackie fumed as she threw a newspaper at her. Tomi sighed and picked it up, She saw David in the newspaper dead drunk, the newspaper recorded he was seen late in the night drunk and that he was having marital problem in his three weeks marriage.

Tomi's face was flustered with surprise as she turned to the next page of the paper, Jackie flung the paper away from her hands and said" Tomi, if this scandal affects Dad's business and our family's reputation, i personally will finish you in this town" She threatened and stormed out of the apartment. Tomi turned to see a drunk David, he vomited on the spotless floor and fell producing a loud thud.
"This is not the marriage I had dreamt for all my years" She thought as she beheld the dirty sight of her husband, she burst into fresh tears and hurried into the bedroom, she had a rapid bathe and dressed shabbily, she dashed into the car and sped off.
