Jobs/Vacancies / Why Job Seekers Fail To Get Job After Interview by rowels: 7:24am On May 23, 2017
Like a bad breakup, an unsuccessful job interview can leave Job Seekers feeling broken and rejected, wondering why you never got a call back. While a recruiter will rarely tell you why you were bypassed, the truth is, most rejections are due to the same basic issues. Occasionally the situation is simply out of your control, but sometimes Most Job seekers in Nigeria are the cause of their problems

So you landed yourself a face-to-face interview! Congratulations! With so many candidates applying online and seeing their resumes disappear into “the black hole,” you’re doing great.

This means:

1) Someone actually read your resume
2) They thought your resume indicated enough relevant experience to call you
3) You passed the phone screen if any–- you said enough of the right things to show you’re well-qualified enough to justify the time for the hiring manager (and perhaps others) to meet you in person

Fantastic! Now, all you have to do is close the deal in the interview.

Unfortunately, that’s where a lot of qualified candidates run into trouble. Maybe you never heard back after the interview, maybe you got a frustratingly vague rejection email, maybe you got called back for another round only to get rejected later.

Rejection sucks. It is particularly frustrating when you know you’d be great in the job.

If you don’t know what you’re doing “wrong,” you can’t fix it. Most interviewers will not take the time to give you honest, useful feedback about why they decided not to hire you.

The Reason

Uche Okoye just graduated with second class upper and ready to work, good enough a company was just ready to hire him, but unfortunately during the interview, it was discovered that Uche does not know how to use the computer and basic Microsoft packages.

Ruth Adams lost her job this year, and when she went to look for a new one she discovered that, even with all of her experience, she wasn’t prepared for the modern work force. When prospective employers asked about her computer skills, she had no answer.

It turns out “that is extremely important,” said Ruth, who needed help with using spreadsheets and other entry-level office computer tasks. She is now enrolled in computer training courses offered by Bizmarrow Computer Training School Gwarinpa Abuja

A digital divide in the hiring office

However deeply computers may have embedded themselves into modern life, there are still millions of Nigerians Job seekers for whom they remain a challenge. For these Nigerians, finding a new job during a time of high unemployment can be especially difficult.

“Its so sad that 80% of Nigerian Job seekers don’t have the necessary computer knowledge needed in the modern workplace, bad enough, most people in this category are university graduates” said Erowele Ikechukwu, a Director in Bizmarrow Technologies Ltd ; a computer and ICT training school based in Gwarinpa Abuja

According to him, “one common statement among those that come to learn computer in our computer school is –I have missed so many job opportunities because employers always ask me how good am I with computer and my answer is always NOT TOO GOOD”

Career / How To Have A Great Future During Economic Uncertainty by rowels: 8:33pm On May 20, 2017
Are you unhappy with your life the way it is? Do you want a better future but aren’t sure how to make it happen?

Building a great future will require making changes to your life now. Whether having a great future to you means having a wonderful family, a high-paying job or being happy, it’s the things you do today that will affect your tomorrow. You will have to plan and make deliberate changes in your life.

So many Nigerians, especially the youths are dissatisfied with the future facing them, And even among those who are satisfied, their optimism about the future is the lowest it’s been in 20 years.

The good news: you can create your own future. Better yet, you can do it simply and systematically as part of your everyday life, inside and outside the workplace.

Peter Drucker, the legendary father of modern management, approached the future with a forward-focused mindset, as something to be created and nurtured in the present moment.

What do we get from his approach today: make choices and commitments, and take action, with tomorrow in mind.

Don’t leave your future to chance or fate, or to the whims of others. Instead, unlock and live your best future, beginning in the here and now. Start with these keys,The point of this is not to point fingers or lay blame on any one. Understand that you have some control over the quality of your life.

Make friends with uncertainty and change.Nonstop uncertainty and change are the new normal. From disruptive new technologies to breakout businesses, turbulence abounds. But as Drucker said, “The most effective way to manage change successfully is to create it.” This requires seeing change as an opportunity, not a threat.

Know that your past does not define your future. You may have had some downs, some failed grades, businesses or poor relationships – this does not mean that you will always fail for the rest of your life. Acknowledge any role that you may have played in these and also look at other factors that may have been at play. The point of this is not to point fingers or lay blame on any one. Understand that you have some control over the quality of your life

Jobs/Vacancies / Job Zone--get That Job You Desire In Abuja by rowels: 6:51am On May 08, 2017
WHY JOB ZONE

For some years now, most of our clients have been coming to us to help them get staff that are computer literate for various job positions in their offices.

But each time this happens, we discover that 95 % of job seekers (both graduate and none graduates) are not computer literate and cannot use computer in the work place. (no thanks to smart phones)

We wonder if our job seekers have not noticed that the work environment is becoming more and more computerized, it is now required that almost every staff should at least know how to operate a computer and use Microsoft office packages like word, excel, PowerPoint, access and the internet

Job Zone is meant to help graduate, Secondary school leaver, copper, and all the job seekers in general to acquire or refresh their computer and ICT skills in a shortest period of time ( as short as one week –depending on the candidate previous knowledge of computer)

You don’t need to lose a job because of lack of computer knowledge, let us get you prepared, so that you can get that job immediately

Career / Importance Of Computer Literacy In The Modern World? by rowels: 11:07am On Apr 26, 2017
Its shocking that some people still wonder if .computer literacy is really important in this 21st century .The fact is that the use of computers has become a way of life in the modern world and this makes it important for just about everyone to learn basic computer skills.

A few decades ago, computer use was mostly relegated to a handful of professions. Not many people owned their own computers, and most computers were used as a tool on the job. These days, there is at least one computer in every household, and most people have active accounts on Facebook or Twitter or at least an email address. Computers are ubiquitous in our society, so it stands to reason that more importance has been placed on computer literacy.

Being computer literate is important as it opens up more job opportunities, helps in staying up to date, it is a cheap way to communicate, it enhances professionalism, helps in better record keeping and makes transactions more convenient. Almost all workplaces and businesses have embraced the use of computers in one way or another meaning it is almost impossible not to encounter a computer in everyday life

There are many clear advantages to being computer literate in the 21st century. Here are just five of them:
More job opportunities:

since almost all workplaces use computers, employers are likely to favor people that are computer literate over those with no computer skills. For many people, it’s easier to find an office job that involves the use of a computer if they are already computer literate . Naturally, being able to use a computer will put you at a distinct advantage when you apply for these kinds of positions. Not only can computer literacy make you more desirable to employers for office jobs, it may allow you to find ways to work from home if you have a reliable Internet connection.

Staying up to date:

Although there are still plenty of people who read them, newspapers are quickly becoming relics of the past. People are now choosing to read the news online, and these sites can be updated instantly as stories develop. Being computer literate enough to access these sites means being able to better keep up with current events. in the modern world, it is easier to hear or read about the latest news through computer websites.

Being Prepared for the Future:

Computer technology is advancing faster than ever before, and it’s very easy to be left behind if you don’t take the time to become at least semi-literate when it comes to computers. The communication technology you use now will most likely be very different from what you will be using in five years, but it will still provide you with a solid foundation of computer literacy that will serve you for years to come.

Business / 4 Things You Can Do Today To Make More Money Every Day in Your Business by rowels: 6:54am On Apr 22, 2017
Money isn’t the only reason to start or grow a business but you better believe it’s important.

If your business isn’t making money, all you have is a nice hobby. There are a lot of activities you can do that seem like they will lead to income but they won’t. Successful entrepreneurs avoid the time wasters and focus on what will help their business grow.

There are four things you could do today — you could start right now if you’re not doing them — that could lead to more income in your business. These are simple but overlooked strategies that have withstood the test of time and technology. Your business can experience explosive growth with the right focus.

1.Sell more than makes you comfortable.

Chances are, you sell in your business. While you may know selling is important, you may not realize that you aren’t selling enough. The human brain can be a funny organ. Someone on your email list or involved in your ecosystem may need to see something as many as 37 times before it clicks in their brain.

While it feels like you are selling a lot, you probably aren’t selling enough. When you sell, you are bound to upset people — that’s okay. If you are consistently providing value for your audience, you have earned the right to tell them about your premium offerings. Sell more than you feel comfortable and you’ll see your income and business grow. Your audience wants to buy from you, they just need to know what you offer — tell them consistently.

2. Spend each day on income producing strategies.

Our natural inclination is to wake up and do what we feel is urgent. We check email, browse through social media and may even take calls. If you want to make more money now, start your day by doing things that lead to income. It could be crafting a well-written sales email to you email list, calling an old client and renewing their contract, or spending time selling to a lead who you know is ready to buy.

Start each day pursuing hot opportunities that require only a little work to close. You may not close a sale every day, but over time, you will close more and that will add to your bottom line. As this becomes a habit, you will be a well-oiled machine that knows how to spot opportunities.

Business / Reasons Why Your Business Needs A Website by rowels: 6:18am On Apr 22, 2017
If you have a business and don’t have a website, you are losing out on great opportunities for your business. A website itself can be used to accomplish many different marketing strategies to help your business grow.

Unless you’re a small business owner who is not interested in growing your brand, you need to have a website.

Running your own business is not as easy as it seems and you need to have a good marketing strategy if you want to do it successfully. You need to be able to manage your employees’ assignments properly and pay attention to every little detail. It is crucial for every business to establish its online presence, so you should start with having your own website. Creating a website is vital for business success and it is the best way to showcase your business to a vast majority of people. If you cannot decide whether you should create a business website or not, we will help you out by presenting you with the reasons why having a website will definitely help your business.

Instant Credibility

You will gain instant credibility if you create your own website. The number of people who prefer searching for the products they need online is getting higher every day and, if you don’t have a website where they can find the products they need, they will turn to your competitors. Therefore, if you want to expand the number of your customers, having a website for your business is the crucial step to achieving that goal.

Accessibility

If you have a website, your potential customers will have instant access to all the information they need. If there are some updates about new products, sales information, promotions, or even job interviews, your customers will instantly know about it. Your website will be accessible for your customers 24/7 and they can even be notified via e-mail about your products. That is why a website is the most effective way for you to keep your customers informed about your business.

Saving Money

Having a website will certainly save you some money, since you don’t need a lot of money to design a quality website. It is definitely a cost-effective way to successfully advertise your business. Newspaper ads and posters would cost you more, so you should really consider the much cheaper option of promoting your business by means of a website. You can also find a good web host for a reasonable price that will provide you with the best service.

Customer Services

Customer service is much easier when having a business website which is available for your customers at all times. All you need is a good team of people who will effectively do their job in the customer support service and that is a great way for your customers to trust you and for you to show them you care about them.

Blog

When you have your own website, one of the greatest things you can do for your business is having your own blog. You can blog about your products and post pictures and videos to show your potential customers who you are and what your line of business is about. Once you start blogging, you will see how important it really is for communicating with customers and additionally promoting your work.

Marketing

If you have your own business, you are certainly aware of the importance of good marketing. When you develop a good marketing strategy, you will surely lead your business to success. A website is obviously one form of marketing and it will promote you and your business in a way no other marketing campaign can. That does not mean you should not include other types of marketing as well; you simply need to be aware that a website will help you with your online presence and it will help your business become visible to a wider market.

More Customers

No matter if your company already has a great number of customers, you always need more, because the greater the number of customers, the more you need to invest in your business, so you always need to have more of them in order for your business to keep going. If you create your business website, you can be sure to have more and more customers every day. The number will keep rising, thus expanding your business constantly.

Jobs/Vacancies / Businesses That Will Boom In 2017 And Make You Rich by rowels: 10:42am On Jan 08, 2017
A friend of mine in Abuja Nigeria who is into App development businesses once told me toward the end of last year that he was repositioning and realigning himself to take full advantage of the “CHANGE” in the Nigerian economy and political system.

I thought he was joking, but last week, (first week of January 2017), this guy was getting ready to employ 6 staff and rent a bigger office space for his Application development business

This made us to start asking the question: Why are some people making billions while most people are busy lamenting how bad the economy is, the recession, the change.

The result

The answers we got from many interviews shows that a good businessman or entrepreneur must always understand the business climate, and be able to make predictions in order to remain relevant. Business climate can change rapidly bringing good and bad result to different entrepreneurs depending on their ability to adjust to the changing climate and take full advantage of it, and as a result you need to constantly change your business strategies and plan to adapt effectively to the changing clime.

Several macro-economic changes in the world at large and in Nigeria in particular, will definitely have a huge impact on the economic landscape. We have done a survey to identify the changes we should expect in 2017 and especially the businesses that are expected to boom this year and make you rich.

First, let us look at the major economic, political and social changes that started in 2016, so we can easily extrapolate and identify the consequences of these changes moving forward.

Fall in oil price:

In January 2016, Oil crashed to its lowest price in 14 years. It sold for $29.01 per barrel. The only time it was lower in the past two decades was in November 1998, when it fell to a 50-year low of $16.74 per barrel. The effect of the crash of oil price last year was immediate and crushing on the Nigerian economy and quickly drove the nation into a recession, since over 90% of our GDP is based on oil export. Thankfully, Oil price is recovering gradually and now stands at above $50 per barrel with a tendency to move up to $60 per barrel if OPEC and other oil producing countries move forward on their emergency policies.

But will oil ever be what it used to be in the past, capital NO is the answer, as more and more countries discover oil in large quantity, and technology moves to discover oil alternatives, we see no future in Oil.

Fall in Naira value to dollar

Crash in oil price has led to a free fall of the naira, swiftly driving the Nation into a recession. Presently, Naira is almost hitting N500 to one dollar. We surely don’t see naira bouncing back any time soon because the demand for dollar is too high due to the fact that 80% of goods and services consumed in Nigeria are imported.

This has led to group and people , even government promoting consumption of made in Nigerian Good. Like “ buy made in Naija to grow the Naira”

Global political disruptions:

A lot of unforeseen disruptions happened in the political space both globally and locally. In Nigeria, APC managed to dislodge a sitting government. In the United States, Brash Donald trump against all odds won over the combined political machinery of the Clinton clan, Obama clan and even Republican elites. The reverberations from this victory are still felt in far-away China and all over the world. Brexit also caught the entire Europe and the world unawares.

Increase in the number of organization ready to give seed capital to African startup;

Recently, we have seen increase in the number of organization both local and foreign supporting African startup with seed capital, some of them are Seedstars Africa, African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Program just to mention a few. In fact companies like facebook, Samsung and so many of them have seen that Africa is the new destination when it comes to technology and entrepreneurship. This trend will only increase as more African youths catch the fever of having their own startup

Now let’s look at Businesses That Will Boom in 2017 and can make you rich

Agro-businesses:

The rise of oil in Nigeria, shifted the nation’s attention from agriculture, which is a strong pillar of any economy, and a mass employer of labour. The recession exposed this weaknesses, and at the same time made agriculture more attractive. In 2017 agric-related businesses is going to boom. Scarcity of dollar, will force many people to patronize our local produce. Besides, poultry eggs imported from South Africa, are not better than poultry eggs produced in Nigeria. Some species of local rice are now competing in quality with foreign rice especially after processing. The introduction of the deadly plastic rice should encourage more people to try premium local rice. However, local rice farmers should add value to their rice, by cleaning it and processing it further, to improve the quality. Agricultural research centers in Nigeria should also improve the breed of rice seedlings so we can produce similar quality of rice like Thailand.

Anyone who desires to go into farming, should identify products that are previously imported and delve into such sectors on a big scale. Rice, Tomato, Poultry, Fish etc.

Another lucrative area in agric-business for 2017, is food processing. Despite recession, Nigerians have taste. Top supermarkets like shoprite are now looking to source most of their groceries locally.

However, they will never display it, the way it is seen in local open markets. Smart entrepreneurs should seize this opportunity to package local foods properly and seek for partnership with both international and local supermarket chains.

The third aspect of agric-business that will do very well in 2017 is exportation. Some farmers have been exporting their produce for our brothers and sisters in diaspora and for the international market. However with the increase in dollar price, any export based business will be swimming in cash this year.

Furniture:

We love Italian furniture, but the price tag today, is driving even the big cats to the local market. Smart entrepreneurs, will have a windfall this year, if they invest in local furniture. Packaging is everything. Some of our highly talented carpenters, can effectively duplicate Italian furniture. Smart entrepreneurs will package it and sell in high urban areas for greater margin. Remember, the current chairman Mrs Ibukun Awosika, made her wealth on furniture, through her company SOKOA Chair centre Ltd.

Small-scale Manufacturing:

The recession hit hard on big manufactures that needed imported raw materials to produce their goods. This led to the closure of several big manufacturing firms in 2016 due to scarcity of dollar to import their essential raw materials. In 2017, this area presents a great opportunity for smart entrepreneurs. This is because the scarcity of dollars also made every imported product very expensive. Local manufactures who do not need require foreign raw materials are swimming in cash and 2017 will be a bigger year for them. Eva wine originally made in spain, is now produced in Aba. The good thing is that previously, many people will not buy drinks made in Aba, but today Aba manufacturers are proudly displaying their names on wine bottles! There are so many small things you can manufacture in this sector that will boom this year. Look around you and apply critical thinking.

Fashion Designing:

2017 will see the rise of many local fashion designers. A friend of mine, who usually buys all his shirt from USA, completely abandoned the habit in 2016, because the current cost of such foreign shirts, really makes little sense, when you discover that local fashion designers can make something similar, at a fraction of the cost.

ICT related services and app development Businesses

As naira continues its free fall to dollar, many African companies that depend on foreign technology and ICT related services are now looking inward. Our app developers now have so much work to do. The influx of seed capital from so many venture capitalist and investors will make it possible for startups in technology and agriculture to hit the ground running while smiling to the banks

It is now so glaring that 2017 is the best year for anyone to launch into entrepreneurship. The market is now ready to accept local services and products, more out of necessity than patriotism. Before the year is over, the market will be convinced that Nigerian are not lazy nor dumb, and can produce similar or even better quality of goods and services to china.

Business / Business Growth: Why A Website Is Very Important For Your Business In 2017 by rowels: 8:43am On Jan 06, 2017
Like many small business owners, you may believe your business cannot benefit from having a website or that it is not within your budget. Or maybe you think because you don’t use a computer, neither do your potential customers. These are misconceptions.

going online and having a website is the way to go now, Almost everybody now have mobile devices that can easily connect to the internet. These are your potential customer,

Despite the ever-increasing importance of an online presence for businesses of all sizes and descriptions, many smaller businesses are not adjusting their strategy accordingly. In fact, its on record that over 90% of small businesses in Africa still have no website and online presence at all.

What most businesses now do is to create a social media page, and that’s all and they will be thinking that they are online. The problem here is social media like facebook is meant to help you drive traffic (people) into your website where you can sell to them and even collect their personal details for future sales.

Potential customers who see you on social media site like facebook will trust you more by the time they land on your own personal website

Below are more reasons why you need a website for your business

Accessible 24 Hours A Day

Your website and social media accounts are accessible 24 hours a day, whether you are sleeping or swimming. Imagine that you want to buy from a store. You put in all the effort required to go to the store, but when you get there, it’s closed.

We all know how irate we feel in that situation. You’ll think twice about going back given the bad taste its left (ok might have been your fault for not checking but hey, this is proving the point here!). You will just find another store that is more easily accessible.

Since your website is operational around the clock, from the convenience of the local coffee shop, their couch or their bed, your customers and clients can easily access your website and services.

Your Business Will Appear On Google Search Free

Having a website makes it easier to register your business on Google my business and get the best result. Google my business is a free services from Google that helps show your business to people who are searching for what you do online. It helps you get your website business hours, phone number, and directions on Google Search and Maps.

Let’s see how it works

Let search for “computer training school in gwarinpa” and see what happens
(SEE THE FIRST IMAGE BELOW)

You will notice that Bizmarrow Computer Training school, though not the first on normal Google search result on the left hand side, but occupies the whole of right side of this search, showing the website, hours of work, office picture etc

Lets try again and search for “hair salon in wuse”

You will notice that 3 companies came out on Google my business, the first two have website while the last does not have .Looking at the Google search result above, though their addresses are there, but which one will you likely look up for more information. It will definitely be the first two, because all you need do is click on the website link and you are already talking to them.

The last company even though they are on Google, will lose many because there is no website to click and see more of what they do.

Credibility

By building a website you are giving your business the opportunity to tell consumers why they should trust you and the testimonials and facts to back up those opportunities. Believe it or not, most people will search the internet for a product or service before the purchase to check the credibility first.

When you provide good service or product, positive word-of-mouth about your business is likely to spread. Which in turn, delivers more repeat and new business?

People tend to trust a business after they have done business with it. Using your website, you can continuously serve consumers online and increase your credibility as a business owner..

It Provides A Medium On Which To Showcase Your Work

No matter what type of business you’re in, a website is a great place to showcase your work. By including a portfolio or image gallery, as well as testimonials about your work, you can demonstrate what makes your business unique.

It Will Enable You To Keep Your Customers Informed

Think of your website as being your online brochure or catalogue. It is much easier and quicker to update information about your products and services on your website than in print material, making it an effective way of letting your customers know about the arrival of new products, upcoming events, special promotions, or any new services you now offer. Unlike print ads which quickly become outdated, your website can provide current information and news about your business

As a small business, it’s unlikely you’ll have big budgets, staff or free personnel hours to invest in a complex online strategy, but there are certainly some simple steps you can take to start reaping the rewards that the web can bring.

Jobs/Vacancies / Sky Is The Limit For Entrepreneurs Who Have These 6 Traits by rowels: 10:00am On Dec 29, 2016
You may not have known Divyanshu Ganatra or heard about him, but his knowledge and experience as an entrepreneur can help you achieve success.

Also not that he lost his eyesight to glaucoma at 19 but thinks his blindness has nothing to do with what he does. He has been an entrepreneur since the last 19 years and runs two successful companies.

Here are the 5 aspects he thinks one needs to have in them that really drive a person’s entrepreneurial spirit barring all limitations aside.

Ability To Take Risk.

One is your ability to take risk. There is big difference between low risk and high risk and between gambling and medium risk. So always have the ability to take risk and pushing the bar each time.

Ability To Take Action

As an entrepreneur, if you don’t take action nothing works, for you to succeed, you must have the habit of taking action no two ways about.

You learned to walk by taking a step, falling flat on your face, crying, getting back up and trying again. Eventually, you get it. I don’t care how intelligent or mature you are; if you had to learn to walk all over again, you would have to do it exactly the same way. No instructions, videos or books could substitute or accelerate the process. None. Its is only doing that gets things done period

To Learn From Your Experience and Make Course Corrections

Often that’s where entrepreneurs fail. They are not agile, they are not mobile. They don’t make quick course corrections. You are getting feedback, but sometimes you are not getting feedback working but you keep thinking rather than doing something different.

To Drive Businesses With Purpose and Not Profit

Profit is an outcome, purpose is what drives you. The first thing an entrepreneur must keep in mind when he starts a business is give it a purpose.

“When you do it for profit, all you think is if I cut corners, I can make 2 bucks. And I make 1 million products and I save two million bucks. Then you end up making bad products and bad service and that’s a short-term business

Jobs/Vacancies / Startups: First 5 Important Steps That Begin Your Entrepreneurial Journey by rowels: 5:11pm On Dec 28, 2016
In your life, you must have come across some people who have made it big as entrepreneurs. Probably you have thought that some of these people are born entrepreneurs and you are not one of them.

Get this, nobody is born an entrepreneur. Different people take different paths to achieve success, and there is no set-in-stone instruction for becoming one. Entrepreneurs take on a number of different roles and these roles can vary depending on what field you choose to enter.

While there is no perfect guide to entrepreneurship, there are a few steps that should be taken before beginning the endeavor, however. As with most forms of success, one way to achieve your goal is by avoiding mistakes. Following these pieces of advice could prevent you from starting off your life as an entrepreneur on the wrong foot.

1. Be honest with yourself.

The life of an entrepreneur can be great — you’re your own boss, you make the rules, you run the business. However, all of these are easier said than done. Entrepreneurship isn’t an easy path. Instead, it is often much more difficult than getting a regular job.

One reason entrepreneurship isn’t easy is because, at the end of the day, you can only ever blame yourself. At a corporation you can blame your boss, or perhaps the economy as a whole. As an entrepreneur, you will be looking for a niche in the market that you can fill. Excuses won’t cut it in this field. If your business failed, chances are that you researched poorly, you hired the wrong people or you just weren’t prepared.

You have to know that it’s all about you. Its either you fail or you succeed. Sleepless night will come, you will lose money. The whole business can even collapse and fail. Its also very possible that you will succeed and then comes the joy of entrepreneurship that only belongs to those who persist

2. Have the right mindset.

I often see people who want to be an entrepreneur and can’t figure out why their goal isn’t working. In the end, they simply aren’t thinking like an entrepreneur. The first thing that new entrepreneurs need to know is that failure is likely and success is not given. Understand the risk you are taking, and also understand that you will most likely not succeed immediately. But if you persist, you will definitely succeed

3. Start thinking.

Just because some college drinking buddies want to open a bar doesn’t mean they should. Likewise, just because you’ve come up with what you think is a good idea doesn’t mean it’s perfect. There’s a lot of research, planning and general deep thought needed to succeed as an entrepreneur. Without proper preparation, your dream business could fail quite quickly or even turn into a nightmare

At the same time, no amount of preparation is going to ensure that your business will succeed. You need to be the one who knows when you’re ready. Decisiveness is important to have, but you should have ample preparation before the big decisions need to be made. But don’t allow yourself to go into preparation paralysis. At a point, you can only learn by doing,

Science/Technology / Abuja Digital Broadcasting Switch Over: Residents Ignorant Of The Process by rowels: 3:03pm On Dec 28, 2016
The federal government on Thursday launched the Abuja phase of the Digital Switch Over (DSO), signaling the commencement of the full roll-out of digital broadcasting across the federal capital city.

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory, now have access to 30 free-to-air channels, with nearly 70 per cent local content on their television sets, following the Digital Switch Over that took place on Thursday.

According to the federal government, six more states from each of the nation’s geo-political zones will be switched over in the coming months.

The President, represented by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, said the Federal Government was also determined to ensure a seamless roll-out of the DSO in all the states of the federation because of the multiplier effect of the benefits.

“Technology is transforming our lives and livelihoods daily, in new and more dramatic ways. Perhaps more important are the doors opened by digital transition”.

According to him, the the successful launch of the pilot scheme in Jos in April, has “clearly demonstrated the gains of Digital Switch Over.

“Let me restate for emphasis that this government is irreversibly committed to meeting the June 2017 deadline for the switch over in the West African sub-region and also to the roll-out of the DSO in all the states of the federation.

In another development, some residents of Abuja said they are unaware of Nigeria’s digital switch over plans and its implications, six months away from the June 2017 deadline.

The complaints are coming barley one week after the Federal Government launched the switch over in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

The government said as Abuja became the second Nigerian state to be digitised, six more states would be digitised in the coming months.

In an interview with Channels TV, one of the residents,

Foreign Affairs / We Will Turn The Christian New Year Into A Bloody Horror Movie-isis by rowels: 2:57pm On Dec 28, 2016
ISIS social-media channels distributed a holiday attack list of churches in the US

The Islamic State published the names and addresses of thousands of churches in the United States and called on its adherents to attack them during the holiday season, according to a message posted late-night Wednesday in the group’s “Secrets of Jihadis” social media group.

A user going by the name of “Abu Marya al-Iraqi” posted an Arabic-language message calling “for bloody celebrations in the Christian New Year” and announced the group’s plans to utilize its network of lone wolf attackers to “turn the Christian New Year into a bloody horror movie.”

The series of messages appeared in a pro-ISIS group on Telegram, which also provides manuals for the use and preparations of weapons and explosives for aspiring assailants. The information, distributed in a number of posts, was all previously available online and includes a public directory of churches across all 50 states. (Vocativ does not publish specific information found in lists like these.)

In another group post, a member summoned “the sons of Islam” to target “churches, well-known hotels, crowded coffee shops, streets, markets and public places,” and shared a list of addresses in the United States, as well as in Canada, France and the Netherlands.

ISIS claimed responsibility for this week’s Christmas market attack in Berlin that killed 12 and injured 48. The group said that the assailant was a “soldier of the Islamic State,” who followed organizational orders “to target coalition countries.” The suspect was identified as Anis Amri, a Tunisian man in his 20s who reportedly had Salafi and jihadi connections in Tunisia and Germany. He is still the object of a massive manhunt in Germany.

Business / Practical Reasons Why You Need To Write A Business Plan by rowels: 8:45am On Dec 23, 2016
It is so shocking to discover that most business in Africa do not have a business plan. They are just surviving on day to day basis; some business owners have actually questioned why they need a business plan since their business is moving well. The point is that there are so

many benefits of having a business plan.

Today, we are going to see reasons why it is extremely important that you write a business plan for your business, no matter how small it is,
Having a Business Plan Is the Key to the Success of your business,

The business plan is the blueprint for your business. If you want to build a house, would you just walk over to an empty plot of land and just start digging foundation anyhow and start fixing blocks without having a plan of the house, without knowing how many rooms, is it upstairs or bungalow?

The point is that even if you just start digging and setting up a building without a plan, sure you will have a structure there but will it stand the test of time? Starting a business without a business plan is just as foolish.

Yet unlike a house, a business isn’t static. We often make the mistake of thinking of a business plan as a single document that you just put together when you’re first starting out and then set aside. Something to check off the to-do list and be done with.

But in actuality, the business plan for any business will change over time as the business develops, and any particular business may have multiple business plans as its objectives change.

In the growth phase an updated business plan is useful for forecasting or raising additional capital for expansion, and if you decide to sell or close the business the business plan can include strategies and timelines for the transfer to new ownership or dissolution of the company.

Let us now consider some good practical reasons why you should write a business plan when starting a new business or for your existing business:

1 To test the feasibility of your business idea.

Writing a business plan is the best way to test whether or not an idea for starting a business is feasible, other than going out and doing it. In this sense, the business plan is your safety net; writing a business plan can save you a great deal of time and money if working through the business plan reveals that your business idea is untenable.

Writing a business plan will ensure that you pay attention to both the broad operational and financial objectives of your new business and the details, such as budgeting and market planning.

Taking the time to work through the process of writing a business plan will make for a smoother startup period and fewer unforeseen problems as your business becomes established.

Often, an idea for starting a business is discarded at the marketing analysis or competitive analysis stage, where you discover you don’t have a market for your business. Thereby freeing you to move on to a new (and better) idea.

2 To secure funding, through investors or bank loans.

You’re going to need both operating and startup capital to start a new business and you have no hope of getting any money from established financial institutions such as banks without a well developed business plan.

Check all the startups in Africa that are getting seed investment and funding from investors, they all have a good structure on ground, and you can’t have good structure if there is no business plan.

The point is that nobody will put his money into your business if you are unable to clearly tell him where the business is heading to. Its only through the business plan you can do that

Whether you want to shop your business to venture capitalists, or attract angel investors, you need to have a solid business plan. A presentation may arouse their interest, but they’ll need a well-written document they can take away and study before they’ll be prepared to make any investment commitment
Be prepared for your business plan to be scrutinized; both venture capitalists and angel investors will want to conduct ........

Business / Want To Be Successful? Then Quit Reading, Planning And Start Doing (video) by rowels: 9:14am On Dec 22, 2016
Contrary to what you may have read, we learn more from experience than from books and blogs.

I remember when I wanted to learn how to drive, I downloaded all sorts driving software, went to youtube and got all the videos, downloaded ebooks and read my head off.

Still I could not move the vehicle, the first time I tried, I nearly brought down the wall in our compound if not that there was a mango tree in front of the wall which received the punishment of my too much reading.

This continued till I discovered that I needed to get someone beside me to do the practical driving. Immediately I did that, I discovered that most of the things I read were not necessary

People learn from experience. We have textbooks and lectures in school, but without repeatedly solving work problems, conducting lab experiments, taking tests, writing papers (and getting graded feedback on all of it) we wouldn’t learn a thing.

That’s how the human mind works. We learn best from trial and error. We say practice makes perfect for a reason. It does.

Nike’s slogan, Just Do It, goes far beyond the athletic field. It really can serve as a mantra for a successful life.

But in order to turn “Just do it” into a mission statement for living wisely, it’s important to......

Science/Technology / Facebook Introduces Live Radio Broadcasts With Facebook Live Audio by rowels: 8:53pm On Dec 21, 2016
Just like your radio, but on facebook

Facebook on Tuesday announced its “Live Audio,” a new option within its live video plugin to broadcast audio directly to the social network. “We know that sometimes publishers want to tell a story on Facebook with words and not video,” reads Facebook’s blog post explaining the news.

Facebook Live was opened up to the general populace in April 2016 and this is like the audio version of it. Facebook Live Videos as the name implies are videos directly transmitted to the audience via the internet as it is being recorded; this is how Live Audio will be except in place of video, there would be voice

broadcasting and live podcasting will now be made easier as people can do it from the comfort of their time lines.

According to facebook

We know that sometimes publishers want to tell a story on Facebook with words and not video. We’ve even seen some Pages find creative ways to go live and reach audiences with audio only by using the Facebook Live API or by adding a still image to accompany their audio broadcast. Our new Live Audio option makes it easy to go live with audio only when that’s the broadcaster’s preferred format.

We also know that publishers sometimes go live from areas that lack strong network connectivity. Though we alert the broadcaster if their signal is low, Live Audio presents another option for connecting with audiences in real time from low-connectivity areas.

Over the next few weeks, the new Facebook Live Audio will be tested with several partners, including BBC World Service ,

Business / 11 Ways To Help You Get And Stay Motivated As An Entrepreneur by rowels: 7:14pm On Dec 20, 2016
Learn How to Motivate Yourself to Achieve Your Business and professional Goals if it’s really important to you

Getting and staying motivated as you run your business is vital, whether you’re striving to reach a business goal, starting a new venture, or managing the day-to-day operations of your business. Lack of motivation can chip away at your confidence, and hurt your potential for success. The more motivated you are, the easier it will be to tackle ambitious goals and reach higher levels of success in your business.

Now that you have taking the bold leap of being an employee of a company to having your own business, one of the first challenges you will face is no longer having a person or group of people above you to set goals, deadlines and incentives. The responsibility of inspiration becomes a task of self-motivation. You must be able to motivate yourself to keep moving, to succeed

Starting your own business is not a joke; time will come when you want to give up, when you will feel like you can’t go on.It will soon down on you that there is no more monthly salary, the month is coming, and you are not expecting anything from anybody, the worse is that you don’t have any money with you. At this point some actually give up and move back to being an employee

For you to succeed in business, you need to learn how to motivate yourself to keep on keeping on when everything looks so terrible , when it looks like nothing is working

So, how does an entrepreneur, a startup maintain focus on the business while also staying motivated to become a better person and business leader? The answer is simple: It requires time, dedication and practice — just as you would expect from a business. But most importantly you will need motivation to help you keep focused

Here are some ways to keep yourself motivated while working toward your business and personal goals

Entrench Yourself in a Goal

While lack of motivation may not be related to a specific goal, having a goal can often help you get motivated. SMART goal setting is one way to outline your objectives, clarify the importance of the goal, and create an action plan for achieving it. If you are able to break down long-term goals into weekly or even daily action steps, the progress you make every day can help you build momentum and get motivated to keep the process moving.

Have a plan

It is necessary to have a plan to achieve your personal and professional goal including short term and long term goals. . A plan gives you a road map on how to achieve your goals, without it, you may not know when you are going off the track. This plan will not and should not be penned and framed, as it is organic and will change as your personal and professional circumstances change. The purpose here is to have a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish personally and how you will achieve it.

Start with a routine.

Getting yourself motivated is about getting started. For this reason, you should start every day with a great morning routine, which will help your mind and body to be alert, focused and prepared to create new habits. As part of your routine every morning, you should spend time reviewing and refining your plan, and try to see ho it will help you achieve your ultimate goal

Set time for yourself.

Because entrepreneurs can often get completely caught up in their business, it is important to set personal time during the day for yourself. During this time, allow yourself the flexibility to take a walk, think and meditate or even exercise. As well, leverage this time to eat properly and drink water, two crucial habits that will go a long way to helping you stay focused.

Plan ahead and set reminders.

Even with a plan, it can be difficult to stay in a routine. For this reason, develop a habit of setting reminders throughout the day for the important tasks and daily goals you have set. Use your alarm, with a manageable volume, also to remind yourself to stay focused on task. An alarm that says, “Get off Facebook and back to work” would be perfect for some of us!

You can also stay on track using time blocking, or the process of setting specific durations of time in your calendar for specific work, projects or tasks.
