I have gone through the op three times now and I see nowhere he said the second hug was done in secret per se. I dont see how the junior brother will want to try any nonsense right under his brother's nose. There are people that are just the 'touchy touchy' type, any small thing they want to hug and pet and caress, probably both the man's junior brother and wife are of the same stock. All the same if the man doesn't like it the woman should desist from such acts. |
plaetton:lol You sound like you were among the scientists that actually did the work. You extrapolate knowledge. All you have about the universe is an extrapolation, no real physical evidence. No man has been to Mars and for a long time you believed that Mars was a red uninhabitable planet until Satellite pictutres showed you the canyons of Mars. then you believed that the Canyons were dead and dried up river beds according to your extrapolations until the Curiosity Rover robot brought back a sample of martian soil indicating the posibility of water. Science of the universe, its creation and formation is mere extrapolation or faith based on the knowledge you currently have. Its just that scientists dont like to use the faith word. On an offnote, according to your extrapolations, have you guys decided whether Pluto is a planet yet or not? |
plaetton:Ummmm, Yes it is a theory. No one can actually live long enough to see a star form. Read up Star Formation Theory. The hubble space telescope views different stars at different stages of formation and then scientists came up with a theory. Its a whole lot like faith, actually. |
gatiano:lol Read more and expand your knowledge. That's all I have to say to you sir. |
plaetton:Wrong. As to your first bolded, you have a flawed knowledge of the formation of the earth. The heat at the earth's core has nothing to do with the Sun, rather it is due to radioactive energy formed from nuclear explosions. The heat is fueled by the decaying of radioactive isotopes like Potassium 40, Uranium 238, 235, and Thorium 232 contained within the mantle. These isotopes radiate heat as they shed excess energy and move toward stability. Our genetic and biological imprint as you so succinctly put it is not given to us from the sun's electromagnetic energy but rather the prevailing circumstances of our environment on planet earth. These include air, oxygen content within said air, viruses, bacteria, immune reactions etc etc etc. And yes the Sun's rays contribute(not electromagnetic energy) in the form of adapting with or without melanin and source of food as pertains to photosynthesis. The Sun has been worshiped by many in ancient and even recent times e.g the Egyptian Sun god ra, and so is very imprtant for the survival of the human race, but it is not an all in all. It might be a god, but not The God. |

darkid1:Larry sun is like a whole different category of writer in my opinion. His use of words is more than superb! One of my best writers on nairaland! |
MOBBDEEP:I'm glad you like my stories enough to believe they are real Some are, but most aren't.In answer to your first question, Keep away from them. Direct your thirst to other things. Your second question is easy. I'm catholic. |
eightsin:thank GOd for you. That one was a true story of mine, one of my scary experiences. I wonder how the place is now, haven't gone there since then. |
Lawconfessor:pls can you explain this further? Thinking of removing my stories from nairaland all together. Some of the plagiarists are too small to waste lawyer money over, others were just misunderstanding. Really I dont mind their putting it on their wall as long as their mention me as the author and my email. Its when they prove stubborn like that I do the thing i did with the last guy. |
stuff46:Early morning gift ;DThanks oh |
so I woke up this morning following a very busy and hot night (not the way you think, dirty mind!) and sleepily came to do some research on my laptop. On a whim I decided to check into nairaland to see the latest on what was going on in naija and I saw I had 12 mentions! 12 whole mentions since last night 2am! The sleep clear from my eye once. I was like, what have I done now? Only to come and see that I have made front page ![]() It's been a while ![]() Thanks , mods. I suppose put something for una account for this early morning gift; Make una talk to seun make e settle me something, then I go see una later ![]() Its been a tiring morning already, some of you go just dey lambast doctors, but in all honesty you guys dont know what we go through and what we have to work with, if you did eh, shivers would run down your spine. Money isnt all we strike for, we also strike for better equipment, better resources, better drugs, all this for you the masses, but you guys wont hear that one because it wont make sweet news. Anyway, am ranting. Thanks for nairaland oh, i love it when folks read my stories, thats the joy I get out of writing. For those of you plagiarising my work, hmmmmn, read my stories well oh, apart from legally, there are other ways to punish people, just saying. I cant answer everyone oh, but I appreciate your comments very very very very very well and I 'like' as many as I can to show i appreciate them. IF you want to contact me specially dont send me PM, use royjermaklin@yahoo.com Thanks again and Cheerio! |
Jameselias:Yes. Read up chemosynthesis as oppossed to photosynthesis. these organisms convert chemical reactions e.g of hydrogen sulphide to pure energy and thrive. other more complex organisms feed off these organisms. other larger creatures feed of them and the chain continues. The Sun is no way involved in the process. Chemosynthesis have given scientists hope that there could be life below the huge canyons of mars, just not the kind of life we expect. |
Weah96:But it is not being in orbit that sustains life now is it? else mercury, venus, mars, jupiter etc would have been overpopulated with wildlife. there are millions of planets in orbit around millions of suns and yet not one of them have been able to show a sign of life so far. the OPs argument is flawed from the beginning. No need to argue it. |
Many animals do not need sunlight to live. Several species of fish were found on such depths as 10 kilometers and lower. These animals live under extreme pressure, in total darkness and without oxygen. Scientists predict that more specimen that never see sunlight will be found on the floors of the oceans within the next five years. Scientists once thought sunlight, like water, was crucial to sustain life on Earth. But we now know of deep-sea communities of organisms that use chemical energy, rather than energy from sunlight, as the basis for their food. Communities of bacteria that tap the energy in hydrogen sulfide molecules, for example, cluster around deep-sea hydrothermal vents. There, such bacteria are the primary producers that provide key nutrients other organisms depend on. |

That point it time when a kiss is so magical, it blows your mind away... I was sitting down in my office, quite occupied with the affairs of this world when I heard the song. It was an old song, a song from a different era, when nigeria was, well, different. It reminded me of excitement and romance, of teenage valour and unfulfilled love. I tried to ignore it but my soul tugged at me. Get up, it said, follow it before you lose it again, forever. So I got up from my seat. I walked slowly and gently outside for fear that my hurry would drive the singer awaylike it had done years before and years before then. I went outside and stood still, listening to the now faint song as it floated on the evening breeze towards my antenna-like ears. It was an old song and she sang it the old way, with feeling, with love, with faith. My heart wept deep within my chest but I kept my head clear. There was no way it could be her. I took another step and there she was, the singer, singing that tune that we had forged together under the mango tree at "zuma rock" many, many years ago when the air was young and the harmattan came in september. She turned as I approached her and when she saw me she let out a gasp, like she had been holding her breath. She held her left hand to her heart as if to steady it. I saw disbelief in her eyes. "You told me, If I sang..." she stuttered. "I would find you." I completed the sentence. People moved around us, glancing at us as if secret spectators to this coincidence of coincidences. We stood for another moment looking at each other, not smiling, not crying, just being. Just being like the days of old when the sun was warm on our faces and her cheap perfume smelled like heaven to me. Ismelled it again as I approached now, swiftly, though if it was real or simply the remnants of a memory I cannot now tell. I entwined her in my arms and hugged her, feeling the fresh scent of her hair and the weight of her body as she collapsed into me. We became one body, one flesh, one scent, one song, revelling in each other, our souls intertwined in one beacon of light. I didnt care that we were blocking human traffic, I didn't care for the indignant and mischeviousl glances and yellow teeth flashes. All I cared about was that somehow I had found her again, my Okome. |
that's my former e-wife right there! am proud of you babe ![]() |
drollster:yes, this is a true story. About the tails...i never saw her legs so...i dunno. but i doubt it ![]() |
MY SURVIVAL STORY This happened many years ago when I was about fourteen years old. My mom had decided to take us on holiday to Abraka resort in Delta State. There was a man-made beach bordering on the Abraka River there that was all the rave that time. My mum packaged all my siblings in the car with me and in two hours we were at the resort. I was very excited because this would be the first time I would see a river up close and swim in it also! I had learned how to splash about in swimming pools back home and had been told it wasn’t the same in a river; the currents could drag you where you didn’t want to go and one could find fish swimming alongside one if he was lucky. Different scenarios played through my head and I couldn’t wait to change to my swimming gear and dive into the water. It was a sunny afternoon by the time we reached the place and it was packed full with people who had come to enjoy the cool water too. My mom sat at a corner of the sandy beach where she could keep an eye out for all of us while I and my brother and sister immediately changed into our swimming clothes and jumped into the water where the other children were. The first thing that struck me was the warmth of the water. I was expecting it to be as cool as in the swimming pools back home. Then the floor of the river was covered in gritty white sand which you could dig your feet into. I played with the sand a bit, enjoying the feel between my toes and the coolness as I dug deeper; but I wasn’t really enjoying the swimming itself as the water was too crowded with the bodies of other children. I felt a light but persistent tap on my shoulder and I turned around to see this skinny chocolate coloured girl who smiled genially at me. Filed with raging hormones at the time, I lost all my senses as soon as I saw her sweet smile and playful eyes. She asked if I knew how to swim and I answered yes immediately, puffing my chest a little for good measure. She nodded and said good, we should swim to the other end of the river, away from the crowd, that the water was cooler there. She didn’t wait for a reply but disappeared beneath the water and the next I saw her she was afar off and beckoning me to follow. I turned to see if my mom was looking at me; she had her hands full with my small sister. I turned back with a grin and began to splash towards the girl. She laughed and swam expertly onwards towards the isolated part of the river, swimming under the thick protective rope that marked the deep end. I followed blindly, I had stopped trying to swim now and was wading in the water, absent mindedly throwing the rope over my head and following this beauty of the river to wherever she might lead. I wasn’t scared since I considered myself an averagely good swimmer and my logic was the river would increase in depth gradually like the swimming pools back home and I would turn around if it became too deep for me. I was in for a rude shock. I had taken another step when suddenly it seemed the sand beneath my feet gave way. I stumbled around in the current, trying to find my footing and finally got some firm ground to stand on. The river was a bit cloudy at this point so I wasn’t sure what was going on. I stopped moving and allowed the water to settle before I took another step. It was then I saw what had nearly happened. The river did not taper gently downwards like it did in the swimming pools. The riverbed was shallow up to the point where I was standing, then just sloped down suddenly into the depths. I watched in horror as a big fish, as big as my left leg, swam by me. I realized the water seemed to be flowing forward and I was being gradually pulled further into the depths. I tried to calm myself and started a gradual gentle paddle with my hands backwards. I did this for a few moments and gradually I found myself moving back. I took another step backwards and then another until the river bed I was standing on was no longer falling away beneath me. I looked up and saw the girl had reached the other side of the river and was beckoning on me to come. I turned around and saw I was very far off from where the kids were and most of the adults were afar off and not taking note of me at all, being occupied with other matters. Also I didn’t want to raise an alarm so as not to invite the wrath of my mom later. I turned around slowly, still feeling the current of the water trying to pull me into the depths, and started a slow paddle like swim back to the shallow side. Soon I was back to safety. I grabbed on to the safety rope and turned around but the girl had disappeared. Maybe she lost interest in me and had gone to play with her peers. I followed the rope back to the shore and climbed out of the water and lay on the sand for a long time. My feet felt heavy and my heart raced like I had just run a 100 meter dash. But I was soon in the water again, only this time I stayed well within the shallow zone. The rest of the outing was uneventful and I never told my mom about the incident. As far as she was concerned we all enjoyed ourselves immensely and without incident. She had no idea one of her sons had stared into the jaws of the abyss, and survived. |
