McDuncan: I'm afraid, none of your points is valid in the light of the situation in contest. Nigerian police do stop and search which never warrants sitting in the car or asking the suspect to drive. If the officer is serious and convinced that a crime has been committed, he simply have the car towed or he drives it himself to the station, getting in the car or asking (entrusting) the criminal to drive already shows compromise and lack of professionalism from the cop. Entering the car is the keyword here. A police officer would enter a car depending on the scenario. Towing is an easy thing because they have the equipment and to reduce police exposure. Nigeria doesn't have the equipment but Laws must be complied with. I'm sure you still want the police to apprehend a robber despite the inadequacy of his equipment. |

If he would not comply he would bear the receipt. |

Donchieli: My clear u
Police no suppose enter your car, as he no keep anything inside, instead if they want to search your car, they can, and if they have a need to take u to the station, why not put you in their own car and tow urz to the station
That's the standard protocol
No b to de jump inside person motor de shout help me help me he de carry me go wer I no knw Most of you write bullshit. The purpose of towing is for conveyance. To limit the police's exposure to litigation, damage, they ensure the vehicle is towed. And that's because they can afford it. In a poor country such as ours, the conveyance would be by the driver. If you get to a judge, tell him you refused to drive because you believe it is illegal. |

If you truly want a great nation there should be constraints for certain actions to be taken otherwise there would be an abuse. jamjo: It is illegal here in America for a police officer to enter inside a suspect's car before that happens the suspect and the occupants if any, will be ordered out of the car and there must be probable cause for an officer to do so. Police can never command a suspect to drive to the station instead the vehicle will be tolled to the station if the need arises. Why are you repeating what I said? If there's probable cause, an officer can enter a car. |

ivandragon: ASUU have fallen into the 'trap' set by the FG...
The present FG however does not care about Tertiary Education in Nigeria & it has since stopped pretending to give a damn. Its strategy is that the Nigerian populace would be the ones to put pressure on ASUU.
We keep castigating our Public Tertiary Institutions & yet, when lecturers, through the Union, try to correct the downward spiral, rather than hold the government responsible, we insult the lecturers...
Well, it is good that state universities are pulling out, so consequently as a first step & since state governments have said they have no business with ASUU's demands since it is a federal issue, the funding of State universities through TETFund should stop.
Most states just establish universities with the mindset that the FG, through TETFund would fund the capital intensive infrastructure.
If the money given to state institutions is redirected to the federal universities, the impact would be greater felt.
So, the push for now is that let TETFund stop funding state Tertiary institutions and let the funds be redirected to solve some of the federal institution's challenges... It is the same market they all go. So what would ASUU claim as motivation? |

madjune: Don't misinform people.
I live in the states and for a long time now. A policeman will never jump into your car in that aggressive fashion Nigerian cops are known for.
Here, a cop will stop you and most times, he would have back up. He walks up to you, asks for your ID and vehicle papers...and before this, he will cite you your rights and make sure your hands are placed on the steering, and not hidden. Depending on his interest, he could check your trunk.
And also, depending on your cooperation, if you're uncooperative, that's when his back up will join him and they will ask you to step out of the car.
At this level, it's on the phase of arrest or a higher suspicion of an offence committed. There are various phases involved in a stop or arrest or search. If you as much as make the wrong point with your rear light, a police officer can stop your car. Once he does so, he would likely run a tag on your car to know its status and owner. On questioning you whilst outside of your car, your response can lead to an escalation. If for instance your licence is expired or you have none, an arrest can be made. Not only that, he can now have the right for a search based on a probable cause. The search might involve said police officer making an entry into your vehicle. It might also involve a k9 unit. Scenarios make for compliance. The above is for many parts of the US. Point I still maintain from the beginning is Nigerians would abide by any law in a foreign land but in Nigeria everyone is above the norm. |

usagee36: No police will enter your car in America or tow your car. You only get a ticket. If you have a warrant, they send you to jail immediately and take your car away. How do they take your car away? By towing right? Depending on how the towing is to he done, he'll get in your car. The minute a policeman has probable cause to stop your car, he can search it. One way to search is by getting in the car. In Nigeria, the police are not as adequately kitted but enforcement could include officer getting in your car as it is taken for an impound or whilst you are under arrest. |
