What you need is someone to guide you through raising a batch of birds till laying stage. Why not look for someone close by who will undertake to put you through. On the 40birds, as adviced, why not mill your feed? Visit any feedmill around you to obtain price of their ingredients.

Solution is to reduce calcium source ( limestone or oyster shell) in the feed or change to growers' mash incase you're giving them layers' mash.
