It is a rare spectacle in Bogota.

Three women in fluorescent exercise gear stop in their tracks and gawp in surprise. A young mother pushing her newborn in a buggy pulls out her phone and snaps a picture. An elderly man with a bushy mustache pauses to wipe his glasses.

What has grabbed their attention is the sight of a dozen men huddled next to a van in the bright morning sun attempting, with varying degrees of success, to put diapers onto baby dolls. Most are middle-aged adults, but there are a few retirees and one teenager giving it a try.

“That’s not bad for your first try,” says Omar Jimenez, a teacher and trained psychologist, as he inspects a doll presented to him by one of the men in training. “But you could have wrapped the diaper a bit tighter. And it’s a bit wonky. You don’t want the fluids getting out!”

The trainee, Sergio Rivera, nods with a tinge of disappointment. But much like the other men attending this pop-up session in southern Bogota, the 26-year-old is himself a work in progress.

“It’s like a breath of fresh air to learn this,” says Rivera, who has autism and is cared for by his mother. His parents divorced when he was still very young, leaving his mother to raise him and his older brother alone. “I was never taught how to do it as a boy.”

On this warm December day, the men have just 30-minute “taster” slots to learn the basics like using toys to play with children and how to braid the hair of a partner, but the session is part of the wider Escuela de Hombres al Cuidado program, or “care school for men.”

Since 2021, the radical, city-run project has been teaching men across Colombia’s sprawling capital how to be better husbands, fathers, brothers, sons, and any other societally-defined masculine role.

Bogota, Colombia —
It is a rare spectacle in Bogota.

The city’s authorities believe the initiative will go some way to tackling the country’s entrenched machismo culture, or male chauvinism, and by extension encourage men to contribute their fair share of caregiving and domestic work, which they say is at the root of much of the country’s gender inequality.

“My mother worked so hard bringing me up and providing for me,” says Rivera, who came across the event by chance walking along the street. “But it shouldn’t just be left for women to do. Us men have to play our part.”

Research by Bogota City Hall, shared exclusively with CNN, shows that the initiative may already be having some impact. A survey from late 2023 suggests more men and women in Bogota say that they distribute household work equally than in 2021. There have also been changes in beliefs around gender roles and masculinity, aided by men like Jimenez.

PoliticsUS Warning About Imminent Attack In Moscow Proves Prophetic 2 Weeks After by ryloy(op): 7:29pm On Mar 24, 2024
US warning to Americans about imminent attack in Moscow proves prophetic 2 weeks later
Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the US warnings just days before the attack

Two weeks before Friday’s attack on a large concert hall in Russia on the outskirts of Moscow that has left more than 130 dead, the U.S. embassy sent out a warning to Americans to "avoid large gatherings," including concerts, because of "imminent plans" for an attack by "extremists."

The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours," stated the March 7 alert.

The Islamic State group (ISIS) claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack, which the U.S. has confirmed, despite Russian officials trying to point blame at Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the U.S. warnings as "blackmail" just days before the attack.

Just three days before the attack, Putin said, "All this resembles outright blackmail and the intention to intimidate and destabilize our society," calling the warnings "provocative," according to Russian news agency TASS.

The State Department confirmed to Fox News that U.S. intelligence had information about a planned terrorist attack in Moscow, which prompted the agency to issue a public advisory to U.S. citizens in Russia.

The U.S. government also shared this information with Russian authorities in accordance with its longstanding "duty to warn" policy.
On Saturday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken put out a statement saying, "The United States strongly condemns (Friday's) deadly terrorist attack in Moscow. We send our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed and all affected by this heinous crime. We condemn terrorism in all its forms and stand in solidarity with the people of Russia in grieving the loss of life from this horrific event."

PoliticsUganda's President Appoints Son As Head Of Military by ryloy(op): 3:37pm On Mar 24, 2024
Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has appointed his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as head of the military, the defence ministry said on Friday.
Muhoozi Kainerugaba, 48, a general in the military, is widely seen as his father's successor in waiting and once stirred controversy by threatening to invade neighbouring Kenya. The ministry said in a statement he replaces Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, who was removed and appointed as a junior minister.

In 2022, Museveni removed his son as commander of Uganda's land forces after he made threats to invade neighbouring Kenya in posts on social media platform X.
In the posts, Kainerugaba also expressed support for Russia's President Vladimir Putin saying: "The majority of mankind (that are non-white) support Russia's stand in Ukraine."
Kainerugaba has long been viewed as being prepared to take over the presidency from his father, 79, who has ruled the east African country for nearly 40 years.

Although Ugandan laws bar serving military officers from involvement in politics, Kainerugaba frequently trades barbs with opposition politicians and has also formed a pressure group that has been mobilising political support for him, drawing criticism from his critics and the opposition.
Uganda is due to hold its next presidential election in early 2026 and Museveni is widely expected to seek re-election.

PoliticsKuriga School Children Have Been Released- Kaduna State Gov by ryloy(op): 5:38am On Mar 24, 2024
BREAKING
In the name of Allah the Beneficient, the Most Merciful, I wish to announce that our Kuriga school children have been released.

Our special appreciation goes to our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for prioritizing the safety and security of Nigerians and particularly ensuring that the abducted Kuriga school children are released unharmed. While the school children were in captivity, I spoke with Mr. President several times. He shared our pains, comforted us and worked round the clock with us to ensure the safe return of the children.

Special mention must also be made of our dear brother, the National Security Adviser, Mal. Nuhu Ribadu for his exemplary leadership. I spent sleepless nights with Mal. Ribadu finetuning strategies and coordinating the operations of the security agencies, eventually resulted in this successful outcome.

The Nigerian Army also deserves special commendation for showing that with courage, determination and commitment, criminal elements can be degraded and security restored in our communities.

We also thank all Nigerians who prayed fervently for the safe return of the school children. This is indeed a day of joy. We give Almighty Allah all the glory.

Senator Uba Sani,
Governor, Kaduna State.

Despite #10 billion monthly FAAC allocation, Alex Otti has be accused of plunging Abia into monumental debt with no single result to show..A Twitter user narrated the debt as follows:

Extra $125m loan from the Islamic Bank. This is +/- N200bn extra.

Add: +/-N100bn borrowed in 2023 from Access Bank in 10/23. Borrowed and paid to Acess Bank's owner for no specific contract(s). An open check.

Add: +/-N50bn from Union Bank in 09/23.

Add: +/-N400bn borrowings for the 2024 FY budget.

Add: +/-N120bn secured by the past administration from AfDB. His government is the benefactor.

Add: +/-N150bn via FAAC/IGR/Grants. Abia gets about +/-N14bn p/month since the removal of subsidy. In comparison, the past administration was receiving about +/-N5bn per month. Figure out the massive differences.

Less: +/- not more than 30KM of roads statewide re-asphalted, which were overly stated and still from every reasonable indice shouldn't be more than N20bn. Note: Not newly constructed roads.

Less: His online propaganda machine.

Divide: +/-N50bn earned by the LGAs in Abia, which he is controlling the funds for. Which LGA in abia can boast of a N500mn infrastructure project?

In less than one year into Dr. Otti's tenure, Abia's debt profile continues to rise. The state is approaching a N1trn borrowing under the current government.

In a comparison of similar situations, Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state has accomplished much with zero debt and minimal publicity, despite some camps' efforts to discredit his successes.

Dr. Otti, jirikwa ya nwayo!!!
