Nairaland General › Re: What's Wrong With Writing One's Name With Red Ink? ?? by saaedlee: 10:12pm On Jan 14, 2015 |
It is common superstition that if someone’s name is written in red, then death or bad luck will come to that person very soon.
There are a few reasons why people believe this terrible myth. In many countries, red is typically associated with death (as black is associated with death in western countries). First, blood is red in color, so red ink from a pen resembles blood and generally the appearance of blood is a sign of pain and death. Secondly, when someone dies, his or her name is recorded in the family register and on funeral banners in red ink(not in Nigeria tho). It’s believed that this practice wards off evil spirits. When the name of a living person is written in red, however, the reverse effect occurs, so only the names of the deceased are written in red.
The only time that red ink is considered permissible is when used with a chop, a name stamp or used to score examination. These are often used in lieu of signatures in many countries. The red stamp also makes a document official. Red is also used on Diplomats Passports, used on plate numbers to indicate commercial vehicle . Thankfully, no death comes from this use of red ink!
It’s wise for foreigners in any country to adhere to the proper use of red ink, so if you want to respect this superstition, remember these rules for using red ink:
1. Feel free to write using a red pen. Writing in red is permissible only if a living person’s name is not mentioned.
2. It’s okay to use red ink with a seal or stamp to make a document official.
3. Do not write a living person’s name in red ink. Teachers should not write their students’ names with a red pen. When giving a gift, it’s considered rude to write the person’s name on the card in red ink.
4. Writing a threatening letter to someone in red is acceptable, but it’s not recommended. Writing a threatening letter and using a red pen to do so? Now that would be offensive on both accounts! |

babyosisi: Meanwhile Jonathan's children are schooling in Nigeria Buhari is supposedly penniless and had to beg from Amaechi to get registered as a candidate but can pay school fees for children in London That is the fraud that is packaged as change Ma'am, Jonathan's Children(biological) are schooling(primary and secondary) in Nigeria, quite right, they are schooling in Nigeria because no Parent would want to send a child to Primary or secondary school abroad. I can bet you that once both kids are graduate from High school, they will all be flown overseas for the university education. It is also worthy to note that Buhari's isn't penniless as most pro-jonathan warriors paint him to be, being that GMB is a retired General of the Nigerian Army also he has occupied serveral positions in the Nigerian Government before. Ma'am Osisi, I also want to let you knw that schooling abroad, London particularly, isn't that expensive! I am the sole-sponser of my kid brother who schools and lives in Coventry-UK, yet I am a Federal Civil Servant. Then why is everyone making a fuss about the Ex GCFR having a daughter schooling abroad? Should you decide sending you kid to a foreign university tomorrow and your husband decide contest for a political position would you be seen as a "Fraud" hell no? (Pardon for mentioning your Husband). Meanwhile, Vote General Muhammadu Buhari for President! God bless GMB God Bless Nigeria Peace |
Politics › Re: Zahra - Buhari's Daughter - Lives & Studies In The United Kingdom by saaedlee: 1:03pm On Jan 14, 2015 |
lurther: Yes! No doubt, Buhari's daughter trended on twitter yesterday, after some of her pictures went viral. I am very happy for her that as a beautiful daughter of Buhari, a leading presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections, Priviledges like this come along.
I am not actually fused by Buhari's daughter trending because she is beautiful or she is Buhari's daughter, i am so shocked about the information i got about her.
The Information is that, Buhari's daughter is based and schooling in the united kingdom. She is a 400level student of microbiology in the university of surrey Uk according to lindaikeji.
My take on this:
1. It is no secret that why our politicians keep their children abroad, they use other people's children to achieve their aim.
2. Residing and schooling in the United Kingdom is very expensive. Buhari have been touted severally to be a saint that cant afford even a house, but, just one of his daughter that we have information on, is schooling in the Uk, I don't know about his other children.
3. It is high time nigerians as a whole begin to ask pertinent questions about our leaders and not just follow sheepishly whatever they hear. A politician will always be a politician.
4. Nigeria has pressing issues, very pressing issues, i actually do expect a Hashtag like #SayNoToTerrorism to trend amongst our youth in solidarity with the nigerian Army fighting night and day to end terrorism, but, it is a lady based in the UK that is trending.
5. Say No To Election Violence. #SayNoToElectionViolence should be our watchword. Why we kill ourselves, destroy our hard-earned properties, let us ask ourselves, were are the politicians of this children. Are their own properties even being tampered with?
My take on this issue is not just based on only Buhari's daughter, but on all politicians in these country. I strongly believe that, why they fight for power here, their children are somewhere abroad enjoying the perks of being offsprings of them.
#SayNoToTerrorism , #SayNoToElectionViolence Inasmuch as schooling or living in London is expensive, i dont see a reason why u should single-out Buhari's daugther and castigate the dad, for Christ-sake the Man was once a GCFR and you dont want to tell me that he won't want the best for his kids! I am just 28 and i am the sole-sponsor of my kid Brother who is schooling and Living in the UK(Coventry): dont you get it; its no big deal sending ur kid abroad to study (i spend less than a million naira yearly, asides the first year tho) and funnily enough i work with the Civil Service. I attended a tertiary institution here in Nigeria, i just want him to get the best of education. Meanwhile, Vote General Mohammadu Buhari for President so you send your Daugther to a school in London. VOTE CHANGE!!! God Bless The Visionary Man; GMB God Bless Nigeria |

KevD123: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About President Jonathan and the Fight Against Corruption
1. He has chosen to fight corruption with good strategies and diligence, not brute force. Oh I see, strategies including; granting presidential pardon to those convicted of corruption. eg Alameisegha and the likes. KevD123: 2. He will not abuse his powers in order to appear tough on corruption. He believes that following due process while fighting corruption strengthens our institutions. By making clueless, irresponsible statements and/or being silent on certain issues that needs immediate response. Let's not forget quickly that stealing isn't corruption(or is it the other way round?) KevD123: 3. He granted the EFCC independence from the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, so it can pursue corruption in the public sector without interference. And how many significant convictions has the commission garnered since this "independence" KevD123: 4. With smart policies, he has decimated almost 4 decades of fertilizer subsidy fraud, saving N50bn in a single year. Just to add about this same amount to his ever increasing cost of running Government. Yet The state with CHANGE in its Agricultural sector is one managed by an opposition Party KevD123: 5. He revived the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) to eliminate a major avenue of corruption in the public sector. This has resulted in the elimination of 50,000 ghost workers and N139bn in savings. Yet, comparing the budget of 2014 and 2015 one will discover that the total amount for recurrent expenditure which covers salary of these "ghost" federal government workers hasn't changed instead "IT INCREASED"; Don't even think of telling us That The Federal Civil Service Employed. KevD123: 6. Project Aquila, implemented under President Jonathan, has helped reduced up to 20 million liters a day in PMS subsidy fraud by using technology to track the movement of petroleum products around Nigeria. You have no idea what Project Aquila is truly about by ur mention of PMS Subsidy above! KevD123: 7. He approved the compulsory retirement of a judge that dismissed a grievous corruption case against a Bank CEO before taking the defendant’s plea. 8. He approved the sack of a judge that upheld the results of a fraudulent election in Osun State even though the Judge’s decision had benefitted his own party, PDP. 9. He approved the suspension of a judge that had sentenced a man, convicted of stealing pension funds, to a paltry fine instead of prison. I'll give Judiciary Service Commission the Credit not GEAJ KevD123: 10. He doesn’t like to make a big show of it, because there is a lot more work to be done, but he is winning the war on corruption. "Thanks for making us know that this present government supports corruption , sorry stealing" |

Politics › Re: Soldiers Told Us Those Behind Boko Haram - Archbishop by saaedlee: 4:52pm On Jan 12, 2015 |
9jagistonline: A senior Nigerian cleric, Archbishop Samuel Uche has alleged that Fulani and Kanuri were behind the Islamist group, Boko Haram, which has killed a number of Nigerians in the last five years, in a bid to seize power. The Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria disclosed this while speaking on Sunday during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Interdenominational Service held at National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja. He made his comment in the presence of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Senate President David Mark, the military top brass and other important personalities. According to Uche, soldiers waging war against the insurgents had disclosed to him and other bishops that apart from some collaborators from Chad, Libya and Somalia, 95 percent of those waging war against Nigeria were Fulani and Kanuri, Daily Trust reports. He explained that those sabotaging the war against terrorism are within the political elites, while others are within the armed forces and other institutions. The archbishop said: “Some shameless individuals and groups make such utterances and use grievous situations as a tool for politicking, blaming the government in power as doing nothing to solve the problem of insurgency. Who is deceiving who? I believe Nigerians are wiser and our people know that it’s sabotage that’s making it impossible for our Armed Forces to recover the Chibok girls. “Let me reveal to you this evening and at this important service at this juncture that some of our soldiers, because you know we Bishops have impact in the society, we relate with soldiers and all manner of people. And some of the people in warfront have confided in us that apart from some mercenaries from Chad, Libya as well as Somalia, 95 percent of those fighting our country are of Fulani and Kanuri origin. “They’re aggrieved because they want power at all costs. They believe Nigeria belongs to them alone and that they’re born to rule while others follow. It is deceit.” Speaking further, he said those behind insurgency want to Islamise Nigeria and build a parallel caliphate different from the Sokoto Caliphate. |
