A prominent son of Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, Nixon Okwara, has called on Governor Rochas Okorocha to focus on the mandate given to him by the people to develop the state rather than developing other parts of the country.

In a chat with Oriental News, Okwara lamented on the dearth of infrastructure in the state amongst other issues. Excerpts:
Well, I see it as a very sad commentary that Owelle Rochas Okorocha would have the heart to be building schools in the northern parts of the country whereas the infrastructure in his own community in particular and Imo State in general are lying desolate and in ruins. If you go to Imo State today, you will discover that infrastructure has collapsed. There are no motorable roads, no bridges and no institutions. Everything has broken down. It is also a fact that workers in the parastatals in the state are being owed nine months salary. Health workers are owed eight months salary while those working in Imo State Specialist hospitals are being owed over one year salary. As far as I am concerned, by trying to remove a speck from the eye of others,while a plank is covering his own eyes, Rochas Okorocha is just making a mockery of the mandate which the people of Imo State gave to him. Let me give you a little picture of what I am talking about, Isiekenesi High School, Ideato South Local Government which was built about 40 years ago and Isiekenesi hospital complex built about 30 years ago have collapsed and since then no other school or hospital has been built in the town. The people of this town, that is, Governor Okorocha’s kinsmen, are now forced to go to Nkwere or Uruala for education and healthcare. If the only road that leads out of the town to Nkwere and Uruala were motorable, that would not have been a major problem but now erosion has cut it into two, which implies that the people of Isiekenesi no longer have access to education and healthcare. As I am talking to you now, our youths of school age are at home idling about because there is no functioning school in the town and they cannot go to other schools outside the town because the only road that links the town to Nkwere, Uruala, that is the Isiekenesi/Nkwere/Dikenafai road, has been cut off by erosion. Vehicles no longer ply the road. As it is with school, our people no longer have access to medical facilities because the only hospital in the area that was built over 30 years ago has collapsed. That gives you an idea of the hell that my people are going through.

Mr Ugly” Pageant contradicts everything we knew to be true about competing against other folks for a sash and some recognition. A 42-year-old unemployed man was crowned Zimbabwe’s Ugliest Man at a pub pageant in Harare but the contest took a dramatic turn when the runner-up accused judges of being biased.

Maison Sere, who was missing several teeth and dressed in torn overalls beat five other contestants for the $500 Mr Ugly prize – a large sum in a country facing massive unemployment.
“I want to thank God for winning this title, last time I came fourth. I just want to thank the judges for recognizing me as the winner,” Sere told journalists during a night of festivities Friday attended by 200 revellers.
But William Masvinu, a three-time “Mr Ugly” champion who landed a disappointing second place $100 prize this year, cried foul.
“The judges were not fair, the organizers must look for new judges to start the contest afresh. I did not lose today,” Masvinu said.
Show organizer David Machowa said he created the pageant in 2012 to celebrate “beauty in ugliness” and even has plans to brand out internationally.

Ever since Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana, people have realized how much of a big business it actually is. So far Colorado has brought in over $200 million in revenue, and now it’s even a bigger hotbed of tourist activity. Just imagine the other states that are noticing the huge success of weed, best believe they’ll attempt to profit off of it.

But what do the faces of those profiting off of weed look like?
White and male of course.
For the longest time, black men and women have faced hefty jail sentences over petty weed cases, and if you think that’ll stop now that marijuana is legalized in a couple of states, you’re wrong.
Just look at the arrests in Colorado as an example. Between 1986 and 2010, more than 210,000 people were arrested for marijuana possession according to a report from the Marijuana Arrest Research Project, and they still remain behind bars.

Earlier this year, Michelle Alexander, associate professor of law at Ohio State University and author of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness held an open forum on March 6 with Asha Bandele of the Drug Policy Alliance.
Alexander basically broke it down to the core, as to who will make profits and who will stay behind bars.
“In many ways the imagery doesn’t sit right,” said Alexander. “Here are white men poised to run big marijuana businesses, dreaming of cashing in big—big money, big businesses selling weed—after 40 years of impoverished black kids getting prison time for selling weed, and their families and futures destroyed. Now, white men are planning to get rich doing precisely the same thing?”
Although Washington, D.C. recently decriminalized small amounts of marijuana, what does the district plan on doing with those people who have already been arrested? Do they get to collect their get out of jail free card and continue on with their lives?
Probably not.
But sure, let’s make a bunch of white men rich(er) and allow them to sell the exact same product that landed these men and women in jail.
During the March 6 conversation, Alexander went on to further point out the fact that black men and boys have been public enemy number one, when it comes to the war on drugs.
“Black men and boys” have been the target of the war on drugs’ racist policies—stopped, frisked and disturbed—“often before they’re old enough to vote,” she said.
“We arrest these kids at young ages, saddle them with criminal records, throw them in cages, and then release them into a parallel social universe in which the very civil and human rights supposedly won in the Civil Rights movement no longer apply to them for the rest of their lives,” Alexander said. “They can be discriminated against [when it comes to] employment, housing, access to education, public benefits. They’re locked into a permanent second-class status for life. And we’ve done this in precisely the communities that were most in need of our support.”

“The reported death, Sunday, November 22nd, 2015, of the APC candidate in the Kogi State Governorship elections, Prince Abubakar Audu, is extremely shocking and sad. I would like to express my condolences to the entire family of Audu and to the people of Kogi State.

However, the real question agitating the minds of everybody is the legal implication regarding the inconclusive Governorship elections at the time of his demise. To state it correctly he was said to have died AFTER the announcement of the results by INEC and after INEC had declared the elections inconclusive. Admittedly, this is a strange and novel constitutional scenario. It has never happened in our constitutional history to the extent that when an election has been partially conducted (and not before or after the elections) a candidate dies. What then happens?
This is a hybrid situation between what happened in the case of Atiku Abubakar/Boni Haruna in 1999 and the provision of section 33 of the Electoral Act, 2010.

In the case of Atiku Abubakar/Boni Haruna [which is now a clear constitutional provision of section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended)] the Supreme Court held, in effect, that “if a person duly elected as Governor dies before taking and subscribing the Oath of Allegiance and oath of office, or is unable for any reason whatsoever to be sworn in, the person elected with him as Deputy governor shall be sworn in as Governor and he shall nominate a new Deputy-Governor who shall be appointed by the Governor with the approval of a simple majority of the house of Assembly of the State”.
In the case of section 33 of the Electoral Act 2010 it provides, in effect, that if a person has been duly nominated as a candidate of his party and he dies before the election then the political party has the right to replace him with another candidate and not necessarily the Deputy Governorship candidate.
Now, does the Kogi situation fit into section 181(1) of the Constitution as quoted above or section 33 of the Electoral Act mentioned above?
My simple position is that the Kogi situation fits more into section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and as such James Abiodun Faleke automatically becomes the governorship candidate of the APC. This is because even though the election in inconclusive, votes have been counted and allocated to Parties and candidates. As a result the joint ticket of Audu/Faleke has acquired some votes already. James Abiodun Faleke is as much entitled to those votes already counted as much as the late Abubakar Audu. He has a right to cling to those votes going into the supplementary election.
There is only one problem, though. Who nominates Faleke’s Deputy? Unlike section 181(1) of the 1999 Constitution, he cannot approach the House of Assembly of the State to approve a nomination by him of a Deputy. This is because, in reality, he is not duly elected yet. Therefore it is only reasonable to conclude that it is APC (Faleke’s political party) that should submit the name of a fresh Deputy Governorship candidate to INEC for the supplementary election.
This is the only position in this situation that accords with reason and good sense,” Keyamo stated.

She received a total of about 96 injections altogether on her shoulder during the period that she was undergoing treatment. And all that while, I didn’t leave her bedside. I was with her in the hospital.”

Before his wife’s case came up, the singer added, he had planned to raise funds and travel abroad for his own treatment. But, faced with a bigger challenge, he had to sell his car in order to pay her medical bills.

He went on:

“Before now, I didn’t want to talk about my health or my wife’s illness or the challenges I have faced these past weeks. I had decided not to make my problems known to the public for some reasons. I guess the details were leaked through one or two friends of mine that I whispered to and they were blown out of proportion online. I never made a public appeal for funds nor called a press conference for that purpose.

But it is when you find yourself in a situation like this that you know those that are your true friends. A lot of people were kind enough to provide support during the crisis. I am talking about people like Ayo Animashaun, Otunba Sesan Rufai and many others.”

The singer was full of praises for popular stand-up comedian, Julius Agwu, who phoned a few days ago to surprise him with a donation of $35,000.

He said:

“Julius is the only entertainer that has volunteered to donate the sum of $35,000 to my cause. I was shocked when he called to say he would give me the money. Now what I should be looking for is the balance. I want to thank him for this wonderful gesture.”

Other friends and colleagues of the Crossover king, such as Agatha Amata and Dayo Adeneye, have also expressed their desire to support his quest for additional funding.

Alariwo still needs to raise some funds for his planned medical trip abroad. He needs about $130,000 for his own treatment and for what is left of his wife’s bills. Meanwhile, his wife is said to be getting better and responding to treatment.

The Senior Special Assistant to former President Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, on Sunday listed the errors his boss and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) made before the 2015 election.

Reacting to claims that candidacy of Jonathan was in error, Okupe said that the decision to pick the former president for re-election was in order but that chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, should have been removed because he was partial and compromised.
Below is his full statement:
The impression created in the media recently that the candidacy of Goodluck Jonathan was an error is itself a grand fallacy which totally undermined the whole truth about the sanctity and correctness of the wisdom of the PDP National Executive committee which made and ratified that decision.
All over the world when an incumbent signifies intention for a second term it is customary that the established machinery of the party wholly backs and gratifies such intentions.

If any error was made it was firstly the failure of the PDP administration to sack the unfair and compromised electoral Officer who was allowed to conduct the election in spite of his obvious and profuse partisanship.
The second error was the inexplicable acquiescence of the PDP government to the use of the infamous Card Reader which was skilfully manipulated to the disadvantage of the PDP presidential candidate.
The third error of the PDP was to have fielded a good, God fearing and patriotic man who in spite of his enormous power, the avalanche of deployable arsenal of war at his disposal, transformed himself to be the victim and refused to fight so that his countrymen may live and his nation survive. The situation in Burundi today is highly instructive.
Certainly history will treat Goodluck Jonathan as one of the greatest heroes of this generation of African Leaders. Definitely NOT an Error by any stretch of imagination.
I speak today not as a spokesman for President Jonathan, an episode and a proud chapter of my life which has since come to a close but rather I speak as a student of History and a veritable stakeholder in the Nigerian project.

Senator Ben Murray Bruce is not relenting in his positive change crusade as he has sent out a couple of tweets challenging all the newly sworn in minsters on how they can best perform in their new positions. In a couple of tweets,

A very good example will be China’s one child per family policy, which has now been upgraded to two. It will be commonsensical to say that people breed their kind this means a rich family is most likely to have rich children, and a poor family, poor children. In Nigeria we have a large majority of low income earners who are multiplying the number of children they have. Children they cannot afford to take care of. So wouldn’t it make common sense to say that the less one earns, the less children you should have?
“This is one of life’s ironies.
“People who are rich and can afford to have more children will not yet those that cannot afford it do. Low income spouses spend more leisure time together than families of high income earners. It will be typical in our society today, to see a high income family where both couples are gainfully employed, close work late and get home from a hectic day too tired and stressed to indulge in any intimate act but the lower income earner seem to have more leisure time and less distractions to focus on their love plays with their tomato selling wives. Why is this so?
“Breeding children has become a recreational sport for the poor, I feel this is an issue that we all collectively as a society need to address. I use to think that it was mostly in the rural areas that this kind of demography is rampant but that’s not the case, the other day I was shocked to find out that a friend’s security guard who earns 30,000.00 naria monthly has two wives and ten children. Hummmmm, How on earth are they going to survive on that, what type of education, feeding, clothing can he provide for them in today’s Nigeria. Don’t they understand that intimacy between spouses is also an occasion to be savored and pleasurably enjoyed and not just for making babies?

“We all need to wake up to the harsh effects that this is having. Government needs to have more enlightenment and sensitization programs that will address this issue. There is a need to inform the populace about the harmful effects of having children that one cannot afford to raise properly. The most obvious aftereffects are when you see children hawking in the street in order to fend for their families. This is not an issue for the government to tackle alone, the private sector also has to join in. The first solution will be circulating constant information about family planning: Due to a range of factors including education and location of living, poor women don’t have access to as many family control measures as richer women so richer women have substantially fewer “unintended” pregnancies than poorer women.
“For all my brothers and sisters coping with survival I urge you all to think more about family planning, I know God blesses us with children but we must learn to plan our family according to our means. By the way, I have 9 children but thank God my school fees days are over or else e for hard ooooo. So my simple summary today is, cultivate your sperm according to your pocket size. A word they say, is good for the wise.”

On Monday Vice President Yemi Osinbajo asked the National Automotive Design and Development Council to design a comprehensive vehicle purchase credit scheme that would enable Nigerians to purchase home-made vehicles with ease.Osinbajo issued the directive when the National Automotive Design and Development Council, led by its Director-General, Malam Aminu Jalal briefed him on the activities of the council.

According to Osinbajo, the council’s bill is taking time but it should be made to work for those who cannot afford new vehicles.
Osinbajo said he was concerned about the strategy for raising funds as well as the pressure which the importation of used vehicles exerted on foreign exchange.
He commended the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP), aimed at reviving the nation’s vehicle assembly operations as laudable with the capacity to grow the automotive industry.
He further said there might be need for a high tariff on used vehicles although he expressed concern about the effect it might have on Nigerians and on transportation in general.
Osinbajo further expressed concern about the spate of smuggling of used vehicles which had impacted negatively on the economy and urged the council to work in synergy with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), to develop strategies to curb the menace.
Earlier, Jalal said one of the fiscal provisions of the National Automotive Development Policy is that it will increase customs revenue without increase in prices of assembled vehicles and make investments attractive and convenient.
He said the objective of the policy is to “ensure the revival, development and growth’’ of the automotive industry using local content.
Jalal expressed optimism that the automotive policy would curb smuggling.
He added that it had provision for imposing protective tariff and levy as well as an electronic online solution to capture the 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) obtained by NCS upon payment of duties.
He added that full implementation of the policy would lead to massive employment generation, technological development as well as its intervention in the transport sector.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Jalal told State House Press Corps after the visit that the nation’s automotive industry had received very good response by investors in vehicle assembly since its policy review in 2013.
According to Jalal, the objectives of the policy are to bring back vehicle assembly plants in Nigeria using Completely Knocked Down (CKD) operations and then develop local content.
"The response has been such that we are now concentrating our effort to develop automotive local content.
"And we briefed him (VP) on some of the elements of the policy that will make it robust, including the fiscal issues, standards, steels development and market development’’, the D-G stated.
He said the automotive industry could encourage the steel industry in the country to come on stream adding that the automotive industry was recognised as one of the agents that could create many jobs and investments.
He said the council had signed an MOU with the Indian automotive suppliers association and its South African counterpart interested in investing in Nigeria.
He said the measure was to break the jinx of manufacturing engine blocks in the country as some of the organisations would bring in their technical partners via "follow sourcing’’ to supply the components for made-in-Nigeria vehicles.

The party said the reason given by the tribunal for arriving at the “bizarre” decision is intriguing and further exposes the contradictions and double standards inherent in most tribunal rulings against PDP interests recently.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said in a statement on Saturday that the “Taraba state tribunal ruling again brings to the fore the organized plan by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC Federal Government to deploy all unorthodox means to decimate the opposition”.
“It is rather curious and a great conflict of irony that the Taraba tribunal sitting in Abuja on security grounds faulted the conduct of PDP primaries shifted to the same Abuja on security reasons”, the party stressed.
The PDP said if the tribunal was faulting the party’s primaries as basis for its decision, it then means that no APC gubernatorial candidate can stand the test, as their party never had acceptable primaries in any of their states.
The PDP said it had earlier alerted the nation and the international community of the grand design by the APC to use the judiciary to wrestle some PDP states, particularly Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Taraba states.
“Evidence that Taraba ruling was a product of presidency manipulation can be deduced from the fact that few hours before the judgment was delivered, the APC had arrogantly announced their victory on the new media”, it said.
PDP said it was totally confounded by the “brazen show of power by the executive and warned that the development clearly portends grave danger to our democracy and indeed national cohesion and development”.

Jack Musa is the son of ex head of state, General Yakubu Gowon and Late Edith Ike Okongwu. Edith lived with Gowon during the war till his people allegedly kicked her out for flimsy reasons and took young Musa away from her.

A prominent Sierra Leonean politician has sensationally claimed that the contentious arrival of 4,000 bottles of Joshua’s water to her nation was the key to the eventual decline of the incurable disease.
Mrs Fatmata Kargbo gave the startling revelation in Lagos, Nigeria at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) on Sunday 1st November 2015
“I am very disturbed and have had sleepless nights for not giving this testimony,” thecivil servant admitted.
“When T.B. Joshua announced his desire to send Anointing Water to the countries affected by Ebola, I immediately contacted the presidency,” she explained, adding that after the government accepted his offer, she was appointed to head the team that would receive the blessed ‘water’ with alleged healing powers.
As was widely reported in mainstream media, the Nigerian cleric paid for a private jet to transport the ‘spiritual items’ to Sierra Leone, alongside a cash gift of $50,000 to those affected by the outbreak.
“I received the Anointing Water at the airport and submitted the consignment to the President,” Kargbo revealed.“However, the devil fought hard and we faced a lot of opposition and obstacles.”
According to the civil servant, even after obtaining presidential approval to begin distributing the ‘Anointing Water’ to the most affected zones, strong opposition from ‘internationally renowned medical organisations’ severely delayed the allotment.
“Medically, they said there was no scientific proof that it could cure Ebola,” she explained, adding that some of the water was even ‘confiscated’ by medical personnel.
It was only after several weeks of struggling that Kargbo found a senior ranking medical official who was sympathetic to her cause and managed to ‘smuggle’ in some of Joshua’s water to a clinic where Ebola patients resided.

“The patients who received the Anointing Water testified that the symptoms disappeared almost immediately,” she sensationally claimed.
“In the South East region where we were finally allowed to minister the Anointing Water, there was no new case of Ebola recorded from September 2014 onwards,” she further added.
According to Kargbo, it was only the regions where Joshua’s ‘holy water’ failed to reach that Ebola’s spread continued, eventually beginning to decline in early 2015.
She lamented that if not for the strong opposition, Ebola would have been conquered much earlier. “If we were allowed to use the water as directed by the man of God at that time, Ebola would have been rid from my country within weeks,”she asserted.
According to a BBC interview with President Ernest Bai Koroma, if no new cases are recorded, Sierra Leone is expected to be declared Ebola free this week.
T.B. Joshua claims his controversial water, newly branded as ‘Morning Water’ is anointed by God. “It is not the water that heals but God Himself since the anointing is done in Jesus’ name,” his website states.
Last week, two survivors of a tragic helicopter crash in Lagos, Nigeria, claimed that it was Joshua’s water that rescued them from certain death.

Obiano made this revelation while inspecting the erosion sites along the Onitsha and Owerri Expressways on Saturday, October 31, 2015.
He reiterated that the Federal Government owed the state N25billion accruing from construction of federal roads in the state.

"This is the reason why we must get permission from the Federal Government before embarking on palliatives on the eroded site.
"It is very clear from the gravity of the erosion that the state alone cannot handle the project with its meagre resources because it will run into billions of naira’’, Obiano said.
Thus, the governor called on the Federal Government to save the Onitsha/Enugu Express Road and Onitsha/Owerri Expressway from imminent collapse due to erosion menace.
The Onitsha-Enugu road has caved-in at the foot of the fly-over at the new parts Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state while erosion has cut-off one lane at two points at Okija-Ihiala axis of Onitsha-Owerri road.
Obiano said erosion posed danger to human lives and business activities in the area.
He said he had made contact with the Presidency after inspecting the site recently.
He said he had mandated IDC Construction Company to mobilise to site and start palliative works to save the road.
The governor, however, advised Anambra people to bear with the state while it persuades the Federal Government to come to its aid and save the people from danger posed by the bad roads
