peterbello: OK. Thanks for the prompt feedback as I am about getting Striker. From the name, Top Nicol, it means it contains Nicosulfuron as the active ingredient just like Striker. It's only Striker we get in my place. Maybe, I'll just increase the concentration of the Striker when I get it. Did you mix it with Atrazine when you used it? Because for me, Atrazine didn't do anything even though I sprayed it 2-3 days after planting. Probably there is something I am not doing right. Thank you.
Cc: famagro, stagger, alakara. Nope. Didn't mix with athrazine. I think what athrazine does for the most part is to stop growth of weed and prevent quick germination of weed on the farm. Although it's also a selective herbicide, when mixed with paraeforce and sprayed immediately after planting before germination, its helps to slow down growth of weed while the paraeforce will burn the weed. Try asking around for that Top Nicol if you can get it, it's far better than striker for me although the action is quite slow but the long term effect is fantastic. |

peterbello: So what is the update? Did the Striker work for you? The striker was not as effective as expected so I used another selective herbicide, Top Nicol and it was fantastic. In about three weeks time, it should be ready for harvesting. |

peterbello: So what is the update? Did the Striker work for you? Actually, it didn't really work. Got another chemical called Top Nicol and it worked like magic. Though it's quite slow as it took about three weeks for the weeds to die but it worked all the same. So painful I didn't go for this choice earlier on. |

OK. Let my share a little experience.
I started about a million naira project with less than 50,000NGN recently. I just informed people that I'm going into so so project and the expected profit. showed them pics of the project site and convinced them to do same but I will supervise it for them. Though it was difficult carrying out my own project and supervising theirs, I was able to get the needed cash to carry out my own project along with theirs and it has been a thrilling experience so far.
Lesson: Sometimes, you just need to do a little thinking and the problem of capital will be solved. |

saliubello: Dear friend,
All of your questions are very simple to attend to. But in answering them, some pertinent or basic things need to be known. The efficiency of any brand name herbicide is strictly dependent on its Proper application.
Will you be using the manufacturer' application dosage or your instinct?? The timing of your application will equally determine its efficiency. A fairly wet soil will allow for herbicide efficiency than a dry/ caked soil.
Any brand of glyphosate must not be used at all at this stage. - for obvious reasons.
You are at liberty to choose between "Stricker" herbicide (if the field has a high percentage of grasses than broad leaved weeds) or any other brand of " 2,4 Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid" herbicide if the field contacts largely broad leaved weed or go with gramoxone or paraquat groups to just suppress the foliars of perennial grasses.
I hope this helps!
Nonetheless; its not usually a one cap fits all.
The pump or noozle calibrations, the walking speed of the farmer and deligence of the applicator will invariably affect the efficiency of herbicide choosen afterall. I can't thank you enough for this advice. After contacting an expert who works with IAR&T, He gave exactly the same advice today and I've purchased the herbicide. It will be applied from tomorrow. I'm so grateful sir. I'll keep you updated with the outcome. |

I just planted about 30 acres of maize only and sprayed with chemical immediately
But there is a little problem. The maize is about three weeks old but it has almost been taken over by weed. This is despite spraying with athrazine and ParaeForce herbicides immediately after planting. Now I don't know which herbicide to use that will not affect my maize but will kill the weeds both broadleaf and grasses. Any expert advice will be appreciated. |

bizzibodi: use tree killer chemical to kill d trees & spray herbicides to kill d grasses, which u will still need 2 remove the standing dead grasses with cutlass, gather & burn them. That land is about 60 plots it is advisable u start small, large farm required high cost to manage, large farm need 2 be mechanised to b successful,u will need over a #1milln to successfully manage such large cassava & maize farm. Thanks so much. PS: You don't need up to a million naira to manage 10 acres of maize and cassava farm. About 500,000 naira will do at the beginning. I've done all the necessary enquiries plus not my first time of farming. |

farmerwealth: I'll advice you look out for cheap labour outside that area, because you'll still have to plough the land and it won't be possible for tractor to move. How about using herbicide (chemical) to clear the non-woody plants before using labour to cut down the trees and shrubs? |
