Politics / I’ll Expose Akpabio If He Dares Me —ekpenyong/sahara Reporters by SaharaReporters: 10:20am On Sep 10, 2018

It was learnt that Ekpenyong, who has been endorsed by the PDP elders and stakeholders to contest against Akpabio for the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial seat, described the allegation as baseless and self-serving attempt to score a cheap political point.

The former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Dr Chris Ekpenyong, said he would unleash damning records of Godswill Akpabio’s secret deals if he (Akpabio) continued in his campaign of calumny against him.

Akpabio, a former governor of the state, was alleged to have castigated Ekpenyong (his kinsman) that he deceived him into defecting from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

It was learnt that Ekpenyong, who has been endorsed by the PDP elders and stakeholders to contest against Akpabio for the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial seat, described the allegation as baseless and self-serving attempt to score a cheap political point.

He said, “It sounds childish that someone of that level should make this kind of baseless allegation simply because I am challenging him for the mandate we willingly gave to him in 2015, which he threw away because of selfish interest.

“Assuming someone gave that kind of advice and agreed, it means someone can ask him to go and jump into the river and he would obeyed? If he (Akpabio) continues to attack me, I will unleash his records of secret deals.”

Speaking with hundreds of leaders and coordinators of one of his support groups in Uyo, Ekpenyong Volunteer Movement, on Saturday, he added that it was time for the electorate to be in the lead of rescuing Akwa Ibom and Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District from years of subjugation and underdevelopment.

According to him, the blackmailing antics occur because the PDP stakeholders in Akwa Ibom have taken a decision to enrol him as a consensus candidate to battle Akpabio and erase the sad chapter of years of underdevelopment and misrepresentation of the zone at the national level.

He said, “I am happy that generally, people know Akpabio to be an uncommon liar; he cannot continue to fool everybody all the times with his lies. I want to implore all of you to go back to your various local governments to begin your campaign for effective change in our zone.”

However,  Akpabio’s media aide, Anietie Ekpong, said his boss could not have said such a thing. He asked if Ekpenyong could establish where Akpabio had been alleged to have made the remarks.

He said, “I’m not aware of the statement alleged to have been made by my boss. This is politics season, so many rumours are flying about, especially from sources one cannot trace.

“If I may ask, where was the statement made? Was it at a press conference, release, interview, rally, or where else.”

Politics / I've Buried My Presidential Ambition Because APC Rigged Ekiti Election - Fayose by SaharaReporters: 3:02pm On Sep 08, 2018
Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti State, has said he put aside his ambition to contest for Nigeria's presidency in 2019, on the grounds that the All Progressives Congress (APC) rigged the governorship election in Ekiti.

Fayose, who had described himself as "the man destined by God to take Nigeria out of the present political and economic stagnation", said he decided, instead, to focus on getting back the mandate of his deputy and intended successor as governor, Professor Kolapo Eleka.

Idowu Adelusi, Fayose's Chief Press Secretary, told The Cable that “Governor Ayodele Fayose has decided to bury his ambition because of the last Ekiti governorship election that was rigged by the APC and we have already filed a petition at the tribunal.

“So presently, the governor is more

Politics / Akeredolu Snubs Handshake With Tinubu At APC Rally, Ajimobi Used As Shield by SaharaReporters: 7:15pm On Sep 06, 2018
It seems the animosity between Bola Tinubu, National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), and Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), Governor of Ondo State, is yet to completely thaw out.

This became obvious on Thursday when Akeredolu refused to shake hands with Tinubu at the massively-attended rally of the party in Osogbo, Osun State, ahead of the September 22 governorship election in the state.

The Ondo State Governor bided his time in the throng of people around Tinubu and shielded himself with Abiola Ajimobi, Governor of Oyo State, before filing past the former Governor of Lagos State, whom other party bigwigs were shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries with.

It will be recalled that Tinubu supported his anointed candidate, Olusegun Abraham, against Akeredolu in the Ondo State governorship primary, which Akeredolu eventually won before going on to win the election proper.

Politics / 200 Days After Leah Sharibu's Abduction, Omokri Leads Protest In London. by SaharaReporters: 3:01pm On Sep 06, 2018
Reno Omokri, former Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday led a protest at Nigeria’s High Commission in London, to demand the release of Leah Sharibu.

Leah was one of the schoolgirls kidnapped in Dapchi, Yobe State, by Boko Haram, but she was held back when others were released because she refused to convert to Islam.

Thursday marks the 200th day since she was abduct.

Speaking in London, Omokri encouraged the Nigerian government to negotiate her release.

Noting that the insurgent group had released an audio to show that she is alive, he urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to use the kidnap of Leah to score cheap political points.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, you should do everything...

Politics / Militants To Return To ‘Bombing On Installations’ - Sahara Reporters by SaharaReporters: 9:17am On Sep 06, 2018
Niger Delta militants have announced expiration of their ceasefire from yesterday to resume attack on oil installations.

They have also criticizied the raid on the home of the Ijaw elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark by policemen.

The self-acclaimed regional freedom fighters have also demanded fthe relocation of headquarters of multinational oil companies to the Niger Delta region by December.

A statement yesterday under the name, Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators, reiterated their stand on restructuring of the country.

They berated the Federal Government and Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris for allegedly ordering security operatives ”to invade the Ijaw leader’s residence in Abuja “with the aim of assassinating him for championing restructuring and the course of Niger Delta people”.

Those who signed the statement, which was issued at the end of their general assembly meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, included: General John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs, Convener),

General Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers), General Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors), Majo-Gen. Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters), Major-Gen. Asukwo Henshaw ( BakassiFreedom Fighters) and Major-Gen. Ibinabo Horsfall (Niger Delta Movement for Justice).

Others are, Major-Gen. Duke Emmanson (Niger Delta Fighters),Major-Gen. Inibeghe Adams (Niger Delta Freedom Mandate), Major-Gen. Abiye Tariah (Niger Delta Development Network), Major-Gen. Joshua Ebere (Renewed Movement for Emancipation of the Niger Delta), Major-Gen. Jeremiah Anthony (Movement for Actualization of Niger Delta Republic), Major Francis Okoroafor (Niger Delta Freedom Redemption Army) and Colonel Okochi Walter (Niger Delta Liberty Organization) as well as other representatives of major groups across the Niger Delta region.

They said, “The recent attempt on the life of Chief E. K. Clark is one in the series of people in the Southern and Middle Belt Forum penciled down for assassination or frame-up by this administration through the office of the Inspector General of Police conniving with some top government functionaries from the Niger Delta region, including two former governors, who just decamped from PDP to APC.

“Our intelligence further revealed that some of the people under the government watch-list that would either be assassinated or framed up are: Obong Victor Attah, Dr. Alfred Mulade, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (rtd), Senator Bassey Henshaw, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu and Dr. Isuwa Dogo and others, for attempting to stand against the killings across the country, as well as their stance on restructuring.

“The recent police action and attempt on the life of the Niger Delta leader is a wakeup call for action. We cannot continue to watch this continue.

“We also condemn the statements made by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in respect of ‘the relocation of oil companies’ headquarters to Niger Delta and restructuring of the country’.

“After extensive deliberation on these issues, we hereby issue an ultimatum that any oil company that fails to relocate its headquarters to the Niger Delta between now and December, 2018, should stop operation and vacate the Niger Delta region or face the consequences.

“The refusal of the President to sign the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill into law is viewed as an attempt to forcefully control the Niger Delta resources by proxy. And we advise Mr. President to have a rethink on this issue.

Nairaland / General / Project Fame Winner Turns Cab Driver To Avoid Depression - Sahara Report by SaharaReporters: 9:04am On Sep 06, 2018
Olawale Ojo, 2013 Project Fame winner, has said he decided to become a cab driver to avoid depression.

This revelation was made in a video posted by an Instagram user, Tope Delano, on Wednesday.

In the video, the singer said he had to make a decision between selling the car he won at the reality show to promote his music or not.

"This car that you have, if you sell it to push yourself, you might not even be able to shoot a proper video and promote it. And it's not like there is a guarantee that this song you are promoting, this money you are spending you will get it back. So, I felt selling this car would not be an option for me. And, I just told myself that you have to swallow your pride, you have to forget whatever it is; you have to forget the platform or the brand that you represent and you have to hustle; you have to make money because if you die...

"I started getting so depressed at home, crazy thoughts that I can't even talk about, but at the end of the day I felt, if you kill yourself..." Olawale said in the Instagram video.
