Christianity Etc › Re: E-Grace Convention 20-14 by SalC: 12:18pm On Aug 17, 2014
Yooguyz: Abortion as we know it today was not practiced in biblical times, and the Bible never specifically mentions the issue of abortion. It is clear from the Scriptures that an unborn baby is known by the Lord, even from the time of conception (Psalm 139:13-16). Although the Bible does not mention abortion or aborted babies, we do have two keys to help us unlock the answer to the question of whether the souls of aborted babies go to heaven.

The first key is from the only passage in the Bible where something specific is said about the death of infants. In 2 Samuel 12 we learn of David’s affair with Bathsheba, another man’s wife. David was informed by the prophet Nathan that the child produced by that union would die. David then began to fast and pray, asking the Lord to not carry out His judgment. When the child did die, David got up from praying and fasting and ate something.

When asked about this behavior, David uttered the words recorded in 2 Samuel 12:23, “Now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” David’s words reflect a clear understanding that the child could not come back to earth, but David would be with his child one day in heaven. This indicates not only David’s assurance of his own future in heaven (Psalm 23:6), but also the assurance that his child would share that future. From this account, we can conclude that infants who die are destined for heaven.

The second key to dealing with this issue is an understanding of the character and attributes of God. A God of justice must punish sin, for the Bible teaches us that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Neither an unborn child nor an aborted baby has had the opportunity to willfully sin; however, every child conceived bears the sin nature inherited from Adam (Psalm 51:5) and is therefore subject to judgment. At the same time, God reveals Himself as a God of goodness and mercy (Psalm 136:26). He is “gracious in all His works” (Psalm 145:17). It could very well be that God, in His grace, applies the sacrifice of Christ to the unborn victims of abortion. We know Christ’s blood is sufficient for such a thing. After all, Jesus died “for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2).

The Bible does not specifically say whether or not an unborn child who dies goes to heaven. Without a clear passage, we can only speculate. However, we know of God’s love, goodness, and compassion. We know of David’s confidence that he would be with his child again. And we know that Jesus invited the children to come to Him (Luke 18:16). Based on these sureties, we believe it is appropriate to conclude that the souls of children are immediately in the presence of God when their lives are cut short by abortion.

Kamsified: Mark 2:27 Jesus came to the world to call sinners to repentance
Matt18:11 for the son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost
So many passages that point to the love of Christ for sinners just to mention but a two wink
But in today's reading, a Canaanite woman came to request for healing from Jesus and he ignored her in Matt 15:23, then in verse 24, he says " I was sent only to the Lost sheep of Israel" and then in verse 26, he said to her " it's not right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs"

My question is what could have made this woman's case different? I mean she is the one that came to Jesus but Jesus didn't want to look her side, to the point of calling her(abi her people) dog
Oops... I believe the words and action of Jesus Christ in that passage was not that of rejection but trying to drive home two salient points.

1) Israel (the literal israel) happened to be a nation after God's heart, God chose and loved them, therefore gave them utmost consideration in virtually every of his plans for humanity.
The woman in question was a Cannanite, (those who God allowed to be defeated in other to establish the land of israel) therefore they could be said to be secondary in God's plan of salvation yet a woman from among them came seeking for the succour originally meant for the house of israel.

Jesus' answer was to show God's plan but remember he went ahead to grant her request when she showed faith in him.
This is to say, throw faith or by faith salvation got to the non israelites.

2) That passage show the "strength of faith" the faith and insistence of the woman move Jesus to a point where he couldn't resist not turning the woman down.
When he addressed the woman directly or indirectly as a dog, ordinarily the woman would have gotten angry and walk away, but no she insisted.

Unusual faith and attitude attracts God's favour, the woman showed unusual faith in Jesus which he couldn't even find in Israel and she received what was originally meant for the children of Israel.

This is to teach us the benefit of faith, patience and perseverance in God. With these, we stand to be steadfast and not give up thereby attracting God's unmerited favour.

My 2 cents. cheesy

Christianity Etc › Re: Romans Threw True Christianity To The Lions by SalC: 9:37am On Aug 17, 2014
I hate to sound like this but this thread is one of the few senseless threads on this religion section. Even if the Romans threw people to the lions, it is foolhardy to say they threw true christianity to the lions, Christianity is not a person please. There was never a time there was no true christianity or the truth of Christ's own words when he said "the gates of hades shall not prevail against the church" would have been defeated.

Christians were persecuted, killed cruelly, beheaded, thrown to the lions, crucified but True Christianity was never thrown to the lions or ceased to exist.

Trying to now clutching on straws by preaching whatever kind of baptism as a yardstick for measuring who is or was a true christian is even more disheartening, saying even now true christianity has not fully start existing is yet another idea am yet to grasp where the op got that from.

If true christianity is non existent, then you too are no true christian therefore what moral christian right do you have to teach us anything about christianity let alone true christianity?

Smh at the heresy people preach these days.

SalC: Alright so we continue our discussion on the Life and ministry of St John the baptist.
Below I reproduce the last question.

What is the significance of John living or preaching in the wilderness?

Prophet Isaiah foretold the forerunner of the messiah "as a voice crying in the wilderness" Isa 40:3

When John came, he made it clear: he was the voice of someone shouting in the wilderness. John 1:23

The scriptures also made it clear he preached in the desert of Judea. Matt 3:1-3

1)The question now is, why would John preach in the wilderness instead of doing so at the city gate or midst of people.

2)What is the significance of the food he eats in the wilderness . John 3:4

3)How can we as christians emulate John

Let's keep the contributions coming....
.
Christianity Etc › Re: A Thread For Catholics by SalC: 5:14pm On Aug 16, 2014
damerry: In the bible, The wilderness has been known to be place of wanderings, where lost souls/sheeps that have strayed suffer and die if they are not found or rescued. sad

John's message of repentance in the wilderness signifies a call to the lost, like a beacon of a 'search-party', he stirs their hopes and signifies that rescue is nigh. He draws them from wherever they were scattered by the melodious symphony of the message of repentance and an imminent consolation by the coming of Jesus.

By doing this, he makes ready a people for the coming of Jesus who comes but for the Lost souls/sheeps of the house of Israel. (Matthew 15:24)

Locusts and wild honey.. Hmmm it could be mortification. grin

The most striking of his deeds was his Humility and submission to a greater Light i.e. Jesus.

We should learn to be humble and know our limitations.

sure, lets all say something, anything please.. Remember your C.R.S class in primary school, feel your innocence, imagine your Aunty coaxing you to say anything, imagine all eyes on you. Slowly,, you move your lips and and say something wink
Thanks a lot damerry for this, you threw a new light to this.

At a point, I contemplated scrapping this part of the question as I found it hard to decipher what its all about, but now I thank God I didn't . smiley
Christianity Etc › Re: A Thread For Catholics by SalC: 5:08pm On Aug 16, 2014
Syncan: 1. Apart from fulfilling scriptures Is40:3, The wilderness to me may signify the state in which mankind found herself after the fall of adam to his time, just like the wilderness is in need of water to sustain life "Life will flourish wherever this water flows. ..." Ez47:9 , mankind was in need of Jesus who is life, "I am the way, the truth and the life" Jn14:6. Man away from his creator is in a wilderness, where he seeks to quench his thirst which God alone can quench.

2. Apart from being the type of food available to him in the wilderness, locusts could signify famine / hardship, associated in the old testament with God's punishment Ex10:14, while honey could signify plenty which is associated with God's blessing as said of the land of Israel in Deut31:20 . At a glance, the two states of bondage and deliverance.

As christians, I believe we could learn to do just what God has revealed through the church, christianity is not a place for experiment, John lived by the prophecy and focused on his mission, we should live by the church's teaching and focus on our mission, which is to know God, love Him, serve Him in this world, so as to be with Him in the next.

God bless you all, a splendid weekend to all.
Thanks for this. I must say this went even farther than I expect.
