The National Assembly some months ago approved the request of the executive to raise a loan of $22billion for some major projects. The coastal railway is part of the projects that will be funded once the loan is secured. Approval for the project has been given already. What is left is for FG and the Chinese government to fine tune the loan agreement and start construction. The project may even start before this one.

Nigeria has been wanting Niger Republic to use the ports since the Jonathan administration. Niger republic exports tons uranium, gold and other agricultural products. Benin Republic has been planning to build rails with them for decades for that reason.

It is not. It will link Niger Republic to Lagos ports and increase revenue from customs duties. It is more viable than wasting money building rail lines to the five gully erosion ravaged states that will end up swallowed by big gullies.
