Fair enough.

I've checked a bunch of forums online and the consensus is to keep your VOC within spec and the inverter/CC will just draw the current it needs to reach the maximum PV input wattage.

Thank God you have changed your mind. Voc is followed according to the cc specifications. If by chance you pass this specifications, some low end cc like power mr will give the magic blue smoke.
While some other slightly highhend cc will just show error eg fangpusion, epiever till you correct it.

Morning if you read this thread from the beginning, you will notice the change in battery technology in Nigeria.

About 10 to 12 years ago , generally Nigerians were using gel maintenance free batteries, while those that have money used agm batteries.

I was stuck with gel batteries. Agm
Of course was better but cost more.

All of a sudden flooded batteries became the new baby ( trojan and one American battery ).
Of course new battery tech will initially cost someone a kidney to get.

But a few of us on this forum were on this new battery (flooded batteries) , and we all dreamed to acquire these batteries.

All of a sudden tubular batteries walks in with a cheaper version of flooded batteries. I was on my last lap of my maintenance free batteries.

It was far cheaper than the original flooded, but same tech. I joined tubular immediately and so did most nigerians leaving behind gel batteries , agm and even original flooded batteries.

Then the new battery tech in Nigeria, lithium far better than original flooded, agm and tubular batteries. But like i mentioned earlier new tech wil cost an arm , a leg with even kidney this time. I am very confident a cheaper version of lithium will come along soon. And nigerians will do the needful and migrate. Till then we go manage our tubular batteries. My respect goes to those already on lithium it is not an easy fit to achieve.. someone has to break in new technology.

The way this thread dey take drag down lead batteries grin grin grin.

Not everyone starting up in solar can afford to buy lithium battery at the initial stage.

Take it or leave it, lead acid batteries has more economical value.
It's cheaper, if it has served you finish, it can be recycled and you get your small cash back.

Tubular is flooding Nigerian market because they are cheaper.
Mind you depending on how you use your lead battery, they can do up to 5yrs

Before you sell 1 lithium who dey sell tubular don sell 15pcs grin grin grin grin
There is a market they are aimed for.

You spoke well . I don't know why some people are hell bent or having sleepness night over lead acid.

The truth it is cheaper and serves its purpose. I have been using tubular batteries for 4years plus and no issues. Majority of people are on tubular for one reason it is affordable and carries its weight.

You go to an average Nigerian home it is lead acid, it serves its purpose especially in this difficult times. Am sure I will keep running my tubular till a different technology apart from lithium comes along. (Likely get another 5 to 6 years from those bad ass batteries).

Likely then, i will jump on that one, then those that are currently on lithium i will castigate them also . And ask the question wetin you still they do with lithium....... technology has phases .

i appreciate your response.

You question has been asked on this forum many times. Hybrid inverter or stand alone charge controller+inverter.

The truth of the matter both are okay, but for safety always have a spare of a low budget of everything. Both inverter and charge controller.

Hybrid inverters can fail , no inverter , no charge controller all at once . Your low budget inverter and charge controller comes into play pending to you fix it.

Same with stand alone, the only difference one side may have a problem, let say your inverter, you spare low cost inverter comes into play . You continue story.

In short through my personal experience , I never sell any of my gadgets after an upgrade, I usually keep them as back up..... in solar always be prepared for any disappointment...

I happy people are speaking up and saying the truth. It is not easy for an average Nigerian at this moment to get top grade quality batteries.
But like someone suggested do your research properly before you manage wetin dey our surrounding.

Don't just jump on the bandwagon because everyone says so. In the sense you manage a small bank because it lithium you start forming power holding company.
The basic rule about batteries whether lithium of tubular like someone said earlier, size is important. A big bank assists a very long way in longevity, also having a very robust solar array, better more than one array. This period in Nigeria now does not permit for any one to get it wrong . Money hard. Sorry to those that got burnt, it should serve has a warning to do due diligence and be patient before you buy, like I said earlier check out YouTube videos it always pays to go bigger both solar and battery bank....

Thanks, but the total load is upto 500watts.

I don't get it, 500watts,. Look your budget will get you 2 good tubular batteries.
You are not going use 500 watts continuously. I am even happy you have deep freezer instead of a fridge. Now the main question is how are you going to charge the batteries through solar, or is nepa constant in your area.

Any recommendations?

If your budget is 300k for batteries, buy 2 tubular batteries. I am assuming the inverter is 24v. Nigeria hard whatever you have you manage. Note 12v system is not has efficient has 24v system.

The truth about inverter buys in Nigeria. You are on your own.
Basically if you have the money to buy high end inverters eg deye... just buy extra panel and parts before it is shipped to you from abroad.

If you know you are not balanced financial pls I will advice don't go for high end inverters. Stick with inverters that can be easily repaired in Nigeria. Easily in the sense not to expensive to repair.

The problem with equalizing is that, that particular mode isn't on most inverters so you have to be calling technician to come equalize battery for you. My inverter usage isn't so intense and I added water only after 7 months of installation.

My batteries do produce correct fumes sha which I only notice because of the weird smell in the room where they are setup. The smell is intense during harmattan period as I tend to close the windows because of dust

Your cc should automatically take care of your equalization issues, and try an aerate where your batteries are placed.

I'm being misunderstood.

I'm building the system slowly from ground up.

Total set up at the end of the day is 3,000w panels, 2.5kva inverter, 4 (220v) batteries, Mppt charge controller

At the moment, only one tubular battery and inverter have been purchased.

None of the appliances intended to be used have been purchased too.

So for start, the system will just be used for charging phones, 4 rechargeable fans, and light in night time.

It is much later I hope to buy DC/inverter compliant freezer first , then 1hp inverter AC. But if the system will not be able to very the AC, will just stick with the fans.

So for start, two tubular batteries for one DC 200L freezer, 4 rechargeable fans, lighting and phone charging during day time 8.30-5pm or so daily, I don't think it's too much.

My friend currently uses 2.5kva inverter and two 220ah tubular batteries to power his double for inverter fridge, tv and fans. So I'm not asking for too much

First of all everyone here is telling you the truth , no miss understanding. The load you are prescribing can only work with a big battery bank and a bigger solar array which you don't have.
If you have read through this thread carefully you will understand you don't buy batteries especially tubular pieces at different intervals it is not adviceable.
You can buy a big charge controller and buy your solar panels gradually. Please take time to research before you buy anything, apart from here watch YouTube videos.

Even the 4 tubular batteries is not recommended for Ac use, shortens the life span.
Bigger banks and a even bigger solar array or generation. Minimum 8 tubular batteries.

@mcf
I have issues with my flexmax60, had for 5yrs now and still going. The issue is I recently upgraded and added another cc (felicity) with a different array of panels, ever since the fangpusun flexmax fan keeps huming every now and then, even at night, even when it producing zero watt. I think it has to do with the settings.

I disconnected the temperature cable from the cc and this stopped it (the fan)from coming up at night. However, it still comes up alot during the day.

Does flexmax at night, display sleep mode zzzzz.

Fangpusun FLEXmax 60A vs Fangpusun Blue Series MPPT 150/60 vs Epever eTracer 60A, which of them charge faster and that's more durable?

Flexmax has a easy equalization interphase, switch it on anytime. Others are ok, but flexmax is better.

the one on the right is the one leaking

Your batteries guages are looking full, likely there is overfill in some cells, more distilled water. It will eventually balance.

It seems you don't use solar to charge your batteries only inverter.
Well if so, you cannot only rely on your inverter to give you a true picture of the voltage of your batteries. It's likely wrong. Usual cases the inverter gives low and false reading,

Even a charge controller without a shunt, will not give you actual voltages of your batteries correctly.

My advice get a voltmeter to give you actual voltage and idea, the paste your results , compared with your inverter voltage readings at the same time.

Snap the batteries, especially the one leaking. Showing all the guages on top also.

If you are into fish business, to set it up will be cheaper in the sense you will not need an inverter, only batteries, panels and charge controller. The only issue will be after sale maintenance, pray the seller can maintain the freezer when issue arise.

My brother, the first option you gave can be used if the AC pipe is kept from contact with dust etc. But the second option is no go area because no matter how you filter water can not remove dissolve element that will react with your battery. Distillation and filtration are two different separation techniques which are used for different purposes.

That is why I don't recommend it my brother.

Have been using Eva table water since I installed my batteries. My installer that claim he sells distilled water always keep telling me next week(when he will have in store). Don't know the tds.
The tds is a meter that analysis the water through conductivity, to determine if the water has sediments or impurities. In short it passes current through the water to determine this.

Good afternoon all,
Can anybody recommend where I can buy distilled water to top up my tubular batteries?

If you can collect your air-conditioning water without any debris and dirt. You have distilled water. You can also run the water through a filter.
I know someone that uses well water for their tubular, I won't recommend it. The person also uses a tds to ensure the water is ok.

I use the ac water for my tubular, stopped buying distilled water a long time ago . Get a tds also.

I am planning to marry and start a family as i am still young.

I am 24 yrs old boy (i am my own boss),that can stand his ground.

I am pretty sure that i can take care of a family.

I dont want to spend all i ve earned on clubing or any any dirty stuff.

I am thinking of bringing in a girl that will help me in my life.

That will also help me to manage all i have worked for since i am 17.

I dont want to squander them all.

Pls, fathers in the house, is there any other responsibility of a married man aside:

Paying children fees,

Winning the bread for family,

Taking care of ur wife?

Pls i need advise!

If you claim to be financially stable, marriage should not be your priority now.
Why don't you start building the house or home for your future family.
Use this period to develop your self more .
After the home , nothing stops you from marrying....
