zeestone99: Lol he's lecturing me about cross ventilation. Most inverters are installed in rooms, corridors with little or no access to ventilation infact any small space you find, even under staircase. People use extractor fans or just get a standing fan for cooling. It's difficult to get that space unless the house was designed and planned to accommodate inverters from scratch. We manage to get installation space that's having one window not to talk of two windows that are positioned for cross ventilations. Anyways my experience is based on city installations, I'm sure there are houses in some areas in Nigeria where you have all the space and windows. Okay |

zeestone99: Two open windows where you can have space for your inverters in Nigerian houses. How many of such do we have. Cross ventillation in simple terms making a pathway for air exchange. If you like place it sitting room , dinning room so far there is air exchange, simple open window, it is ok. mine was originally placed in a veranda outside, I had serious problems with dust, rain and rodents. When I got more batteries I placed all the batteries in shed with one window wide open, so far no problem , no dust, no rain issues and no rodents.. |

A very ventillated area of your house is okay. So far there is cross ventillation , tubular batteries can be placed anywhere indoors. Preferably close to an open window. None there less it is ok indoors. |

Trippledots: What's your inverter setup like, which inverter did you get and what AC capacity are you using on it? Inverter is a transformer based, 5kva and 7.5kva inverter. Both carry my 1.5hp and 2 hp chigo ac. But of course 7.5kva does it better. And I don't on the 2 ac on the 5kva, but I can the 2 ac on the 7 .5 kva inverter. |

sintolord: Namzy, you seem to understand my point. I think some people on this tread think I am attacking SOROTEC. I only have issues with the particular inverter I bought. Also the seller assured me of the durability of the inverter compared to the other ones he is selling. From day one, I started observing strange things abt the inverter. On the first or second comment I made, I said the SOROTEC logo was poorly printed on the inverter which made me to reach out to Sorotec directly to confirm if this inverter is truly made by Sorotec & the lady on the other end confirmed that the Inverter is genuinely Sorotec.
Its possible, Sorotec did not make this perticular inverter & only put there logo on it. For those trying to defend Sorotec, go and buy this perticular inverter & after 6 months, come & give us your feed back. Abt four persons have given a negative review abt this perticular inverter. I also strongly believe, the inverter capacity is not up to 3.5kw. I stand to be corrected My brother, your experience is what makes this thread strong. You are advising people ahead. This issue was brought up a while back about inverter ac , and whether to use transformer based inverters. I opted for transformer based inverters and I stuck with my normal ac. And it has been fine my neighbors inverter ac , keeps giving the guy problems and does not chill very well. Sorry for your loss. I |

bigrovar: Not too long ago someone asked how long can a tubular battery last and those of us who have used those batteries gave our experiences. I started my solar journey with 2 Tubular batteries and used them for 3 years (Including 1-year completely off the grid in a 2 bedroom house with 4 occupants) The secret is how you design your system to avoid the limitation of whatever system you are using.
In my case, I ran heavy loads like my freezer and fridge during the day and thus on solar and limited battery discharge rate to about 150w. This includes a TV, fan, and lights for the house. heck, my night load was once 90w thanks to having efficient loads like led lights, dc ceiling fans, and solar outdoor lights. The low night discharge was way below the recommended discharge rates of those batteries which in my case was 200w.
The only thing I ran my generator off on was the water pump and I decided 20 minutes of generator time once every 2 days was more efficient than putting a 1HP water pump on a 5kwh battery bank designed for a 200w discharge rate.
I later sold those batteries and got 4 Exide Index batteries 200AH directly from Multipower ilupeju. These upgrades allowed me to increase my loads hence things like an electric kettle, microwave could be used with the batteries (In short bursts) and my night discharge became 300w (Still within the discharge limit of my batteries)
The Exide Tubular are in their second life with a friend which puts them at 4 years of use. I ensured I used the batteries within the limits of their rating, * I had a battery sensor that allowed for the temperature-compensated charge. * I made sure my batteries were rarely discharged below 50% dod * I made sure batteries were fully charged every day and never left them in a partial state of charge * I also made sure that I kept the charge voltage, and discharge rate to be within the limits accepted by the battery chemistry.
When you come to a place like this, come with facts not offing and puffing but offering very little substance. I have put out the facts as I see them. It is up to whoever is reading this to do as they see fit. Every decision has consequences. How long your battery last depends on how well you treat them. How many panels did you have, because all the load you stated. On 2 batteries is catastrophic. Two batteries that makes 24v200 ah of lead acid. Are you using presently this capacity in lithium or it is larger than this. People that have 8 lead acid batteries are even more discreet than this if you don't have enough panels. |

Juror: The reality is that he'll hardly check the sun's output before he powers the pumping machine any afternoon he wants to use it and sometimes he may not even be the one to switch it on, or he may even use a timer for it. The implication is that nobody can guarantee what the sun's output would be at the time the machine is being used or even the battery's state of charge, this means that at some point, the battery may have to supply all the power required by the pumping machine and there's no gainsaying that lithium would be more suited in such scenario than lead acid except he has some other automation in place to check the battery's state of charge and solar output which then allows the pump or not. Do you really believe what you wrote, |

NiyiOmoIyunade: Are you forecasting zero yield from the solar panels from like 12pm or what?
I am wondering why people have such a dim view of the abilities of a lead acid battery - especially in this case when things could be arranged so that there will be sufficient solar for the pump to run off or at the very least enough solar to offset some of the pump's energy demand. Niyi , you can see most of the the profets of doom for lead acid had or created the worse thinking bank bank design with inadequate solar and wanted Shangri-La. If you got burnt that is on your head, your design was flawed.. A lot of people will still get burnt they have not been educated enough in battery university..... Both in lithium and lead . |

bigrovar: We can't have a thriving community with this type of attitude. Accusing someone of lying without any proof to what end? Why should he lie? He doesn't sell lithium batteries neither does he manufacture them. If his suggestion tickled your insecurities then that is your problem.
Earthrealm is one of the Tubular batteries OG. He has lots of experience with them and he told no lies. Tubular batteries like all flooaded acid batteies are but designed for High rate of discharge. It is just one of the down side of the battery chemistry. Tubular are rated for C20 discharge or about 10A for a 200AH battery. 10x 48 = 480w this is the rated or optimal discharge rate of an average 200AH tubular battery in 48v configuration. Anything above that and you are discharging the battery faster than it designed rate if charge.
Putting a 1.5HP device which is over 1000w or about 20A This could lead to inevitable voltage sag especially if the battery is at 50% state of charge which can even trigger a low voltage disconnect.
A cheaper alternative would be to use an AGM battery like Quanta or fullriver DC. AGM have higher rate if discharge and some can go as high as C10 or 800w in the case of 200AH in 48v configuration. By the way, he only wants to pump water in the day time, 24volts will be ok and cheaper. |

earthrealm: for battery, if solar is your primary charging source, you can consider getting a minimum a 7kwh to 10kwh lithium bank. trying it with 4 units flooded battery and an oversized solar panel array eg 8units x 300w is a bit risky, as the sun cud go down while your panels are carrying the load...and this will result in the load being transferred to the poor flooded battery, who are not designed to carry such load.
lithium is the best for loads like this, the only challenge is that the luminous inverter charging algorithm isnt suitable for lithium cells, so you need to dance tru hoops if grid is your primary charging source, but if its solar, you would be ok
lastly, its a 50/50 hit if the luminous would be able to power the sumo, check the surge rating of the inverter..if its upto 6000watts, then it should, This is very very wrong , and untrue. Nothing wrong with flooded batteries running pumping machines. I will always say it , if you are currently not using flooded batteries stop trying to make it look has if it is a diseased patient.. stop lying. . period. |

jonescosmos: Good day everyone here. As someone suggested a 1hp AC for the inverter room earlier, I spoke to Deye Engineers as well as Felicity Engineers as to what is the best way to keep the room cool for the systems.
Both team gave a simmilar response to this.
They both talked about the size of the room which is somewhat about 9ftx8ftx9ft WDH. They both didn't recommend an AC for the room, reeson beign that some micro internal components might get condensed and eventually fail due to bridging of terminals. They both recommended a natural air cooling system according to the first two pictures below. Based on immediate avialable resources, I did it as seen on the last two pictures. Before you draw your conclusions remember that they did not say I can't use AC in there. They gave recommendations based on environmental constrains which here is size of the room.
After installing and testing this my Extractor fan today, I thanked my spirit for deciding to place the Deye inverter right below the vents as seen in the pictures. The Deye Inverter sucks air from under and throws out upwards and the Extractor fan sucks the air outside alongside dust. Please recommend improvements if any.
Happy me. This is power generating and transmission company ...congrats . Nice one. Care to share the specs and how many solar arrays .... |

hayo15: Hello,
I have tried to scan through this thread to see if there is any response that answers my question.. But, I haven't found any yet.. It's very long thread.. Wished I had seen it before setting up some of my installations..
First setup,
- I have a 220ah Neptune tubular battery - A 30A PWM charge controller - I use a 6mm aluminum DC Cable - I use two 200w panels (connected in parallel) - I use a 2000w Souer power inverter The setup is less than 2 months old..
The problem is;
I use this system to run - My freezer (thermocool chest inverter freezer -115w) - A few akt 12w bulbs - Basic charging (laptop, phones) - And, blender Just basic household activities..
Recently, when I started loading freezer on this setup.. I found out that my battery runs down very fast.. Of course, I know I should increase the battery.. But, this feels a little odd.. I can't even use my freezer for up to 6hrs.. Battery rarely gets to full charge..
This is the question I need answering - I am looking at getting - One extra 220ah Neptune tubular battery - Three 200w panels - and, probably a 60A mppt CC Is this a recommend upgrade that would work ? (Will it have a significant increase in my uptime)
Second setup..
- I have a 3.5kva 24v felicity hybrid inverter.. 2 400w panels - Two 200ah amaron quanta batteries - I used an independent PWM charge controller (the setup engineer recommended this)
Client plans upgrading this later to add
- Two more 200ah amaron quanta batteries - Two 400w panels
Question is,
Is this also a recommended upgrade for longer uptime? All this load on a single battery is a lot. Panels also inadequate.. All the solution you wrote is correct increasing the battery and panels. Also changing to mppt. Now you stated the system is 2 months old , you might get away by adding new batteries. But if money dey, sell the battery and buy 2 new ones. And add more panels. |

toyeoye: Good morning good people... I finalised the 24v setup and so far so good. I was trying to test the limits after the initial full charge and hooking it up so I switched off NEPA and was relying only on the solar and batteries.
I usually turn everything off at night leaving only the refrigerator, fence lights on 18watts (10) and CCTV (8 )
Last night I forgot to turn off the flood lights, these popular AKT 50watts (4) and I heard the inverter beep (low battery) for the first time.
I switched on NEPA to charge the inverter, turned off the flood lights and everything went back to normal.
Question is, what is the best way to maintain a healthy balance between nepa and this set-up? Longevity is the goal.
I truly appreciate your inputs. You are pushing your system to know it's weakness, that is how you will eventually have a better system. First and foremost 48v system is more reliable than 24v system. If the system is new add extra battery to make it 48v. Fence light and flood lights, all on why? To avoid issues with security lights , I got the solar security light . They are even brighter and they are timed to come on , at sun down. They become dim when there is no movement around your compound, but bright once it senses movement. Your fridge, whether it is a low energy consumption or high is a big no for 24hrs use. Personally I will go for a deep freezer low consumption, use through out the day, on solar, switch it off by 5 or 6pm. The chill within the freezer can carry you to next day you continue story . I got rid of my big fridge, when I noticed issues. In renewable energy, live like a king when the sun is up, avoid unnecessary load at night. Also change your charge controller. |
