rvp2018: International community - UN staff have max of 4yr duty in any station - min 2 yrs. They don't stick around. The same with embassies. They are ever on the go.
I have worked there - I can say NOT a single expat I know owns a house in Nairobi.
The few I know invest in a condo in Capetown - and that is pretty much it.
The expat don't necessarily have to work for UN....Expat makes up about 90% of runda..
rvp2018: Contradictory. South Africa is stuck. Not going forward. It doesn't everything has grinded to a halt. It just mean they are doing what you'd expect developed world to be doing...but they aren't developed. They need to grow 2-3 times to become developed.
Developed world like US or UK - there are also still building.
Main point: their cities are not stagnant...it's still growing tremendously well.
rvp2018: Yes, but owned by Kenyans - black kenyans. It was very cheap coffee farms recently. Not every tom dick and harry can own Muthaiga - or Lavington - well they have allowed some subdivision now into smaller plots - and there is new money in - but old money is on Muthaiga, Karen and Lavington - and such estates.
Story for the gods. ..I have watched countless YouTube videos of Indian and British property developers building in runs and Karen....truth is runda is built and owned by the international community....
I will check up on Lavington and muthiaga....I do think really know much about those places
rvp2018: You have problem with English comprehension. Runda I have said severally houses expats working at UN and embassies. It also house the upper class kenyans. The houses are rented out to experts and foreign people by kenyans who bought the coffee farms and made Runda what it is.
Runda rent is min from 2,000 (if you're very very luckly) to 6,000 usd per month.
Runda is not the richest neighborhood of Nairobi. It's new estate to respond to mostly UN and international organisation demand for housing....it was built around the 90s. Nairobi became UN HQ/UNEP in 1975 or about...and UN compound and all that was built in 80s.
Runda therefore is for "new" money - Not really the rich people of Nairobi. You can even still see coffee farms.
The richest Nairobeans - this is old money- stay in 1) Muthaiga 2) Lavington and 3) Karen - I'd say mostly. Nairobi has more than 20 upper class estates as big as Runda you see in the video. Karen for once is very huge.
In succinct term runda is largely occupied by expat...
rvp2018: They were under recession long before COVID-19. Capital flight out of south africa is enormous. The rand is taking water. I know Nigeria are TKOs and now hidding under South Africa.
Leave Nigeria..we've on that never ending topic for too long as we watch thesame argument get recycled every single day... Now back to SA...yes they were under recession pre covid19 and has been in and out of recession for close to a decade now..but yet their cities are not stagnant ....now that's my point..let it sink in..
I watched the video s d there was nothing to see or learn from it...they basically just told me what I know...like the third woman who said funds has very large International community...now that debunks your lies..I mean the one where you stated that runda us largely occupied by black Kenyans not UN expert .. remember you said then UN expat starts and end in their gates and now you are saying this women are specialist....and this runad specialist are saying runda is largely occupied by the international community....
Btw I took screenshot from this video...is this the special thing you've always wanted me to see in runda...pls don't you ever waste my time with nonsensical, overpriced, mediocre, uninspiring stuff...
NigeriaIsDoomed: How can South Africans be envious of a one city country? The guy is smoking. Kenya that is associated with hunger and starvation is what anybody should be jealous of? They should go feed themselves first. Poor little Indians.
They are only here to seek relevance and importance...in reality there are a backwater shiithole...after all the noise here they logoff to face that reality..
rvp2018: Last I checked Nairobi had 17,000 while Nigeria didn't even have 10,000. In terms of Number of branded hotels - Nigeria were far behind Kenya.
h
You read that report yet you're still acting a fool..
obaaderemi: I think the little Indians get their pride from comparing their country to countries far ahead of their own- Nigeria, Ghana and now South Africa. There's something worse than blindness: it's seeing things that are not real.
rvp2018: The whole shebang. Just remove your blinkers and watch that video again.
I have watched that video twice a day I can't still find what you are saying....what assurance am saying getting from you that I would see something different....did something magically change in that video..?
rvp2018: They are basically undergoing US kind of segregation - the whites are creating Sandtons and moving to suburbs where they can enact their own apertheid for security and other reasons - leaving the poor blacks in the inner city.
Blah, blah, blah ...what matters you is that their cities despite the poor economic activities has seen in TT grown in world class biildii/properties,malls, planning Ng, infastructure, hotels you name it...their cities are not stagnant as you've been screaming....four years ago Steyn city and waterfall never existed, today it's yet another collection to Gauteng world class cities..
Lol.if I should speak they will say I am hating..... The interior of your highrise buildings have never been impressive.....this is not hate but observable fact..
Saddamochieng00: I can see you really hate Nairobi. I have seen all Nigerians criticize Nairobi but yours is a special case. You and Austine really have an issue with Kenya.
I used to think the same of Tanzanians and Ghanaians but it turns out theirs is just envy but for you two is HATE. It really pains you to hear anything good about Nairobi. Be rest assured that we'll kill you with that pain
That would be rvp, it pains him to hear good thing about other country..me on the other hand speaks fact..
Hahahah so you know the sense 8 series on Netflix...I bet if you watched it you would be just ashamed of nairobi as I was when I watched it...let me show you the screenshot I took of nairobi when I was watching it...
Such a mess..and you have the guts to consistently lecture us on city....you are extremely stupid for that...
68816419: According to our findings, there are over 2000 hotels in Lagos state alone. One can therefore wonder how many hotels can be found in the whole of the country In a report by Financial time, Nigeria has the highest number of hotel rooms in Africa as at the year 2016, closely followed by Angola and Egypt who have about 7,560 and 6,660 rooms respectively. This shows that there are many hotels in Nigeria. Also, hotels in Nigeria have been known for their amazing cuisine, from their intercontinental dishes to the local dishes. The local dishes in Nigeria have been described by both foreigners and indigenes as one that is unique because of its spicy nature and its exquisite taste
Now that's fact to his face... Nigeria also has the highest amount of planned hotels in pipeline in africa..we are only rivalled by Egypt..
Dlonra: Every city in Kenya has a CBD, Residential zones, industrial zones, transport infrastructure like airports, Railways & roads. These are basic infrastructural requirements for any urban area to qualify as a city in Kenya. Building a stadium in the middle of a Village doesn't qualify that village to be city let alone town. It's all about quality not quantity. This is how a city should look like

Wonder shall never end....you must be extremely stupid if you think your Kisumu three building CBD can compete with Benin in anything at all... Lol you talk of CBD...is that slum in Mombasa a CBD or an open choatic market... Lol is this three building in Kisumu what you call CBD....
Lol which transport Infastructure does Kisumu have...don't U mention sgr Cos we have that Too...talk of city light rail then you will have my ears not sgr commuting containers from Mombasa to Nairobi....
Lol don't even go there..stop this minute before you disgrace your brothers here...Every Kenyan here never discusses airport with us...they are too afraid to do so..they know who is boss by a long margin..
Lol what residential area...if land are to expensive for citizen to buy and build then tell me where you expect them to live in the absence of affordable housing...don't worry I will help U answer that...In slum - shacks or muddy hut with leaking thatched roofs..if nairobi has being reported to have 70% of it urban population living in slum what then would be the case for the certified backwater Kisumu....I just wonder....
Industrial zone...lol just forget it, we don't allow that to coexist with our cities..they are dedicated places/zones tucked far away from our cities for that purpose....
You probably haven't heard of Benin like majority of the people here. Yes it's that underrated and not talked about much but yet it beat your overhyped Kisumu village hands down...
