European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Is Rafael Still Immature? by samsumgsapple(m): 8:04am On May 06, 2013
Only two weeks ago Sir Alex Ferguson was lavishing praise on the way Rafael Da Silva has matured and developed as a player.

“His impetuosity has left him and he is playing with great maturity now,” said Ferguson of the 22-year-old Brazilian, who has made Manchester United’s right-back slot his own.

Unfortunately for Ferguson, Rafael reverted to type in the final minute against Chelsea yesterday and saw the red mist descend, scything down compatriot David Luiz with a kick borne out of anger and frustration.

Yet Luiz was complicit in the straight red card shown to Rafael by ref Howard Webb, the Chelsea defender smirking as he lay by the corner flag, before writhing around in mock agony to ensure his countryman received the maximum punishment.

By the letter of the law, Rafael had to go, for lashing out at Luiz, in an episode that showed he can still lose his cool in the heat of the moment, as he did with his dismissal against Bayern Munich in the quarter-final of the Champions League in 2010, which ultimately cost United a semi-final place.

But there were was something deeply unpalatable about Luiz’s sly antics, the dismissal meaning Rafael will serve a three-match ban, missing United’s final two games of this season and the first one in the defence of their title next term.

Rafael has been United’s most improved player this season, and his ire was understandable, after Luiz had twice used his elbow to keep him at bay as the pair tussled for possession near the far corner of the Stretford End.

Fortunately for United, with the title already won and nothing riding on the game for them, Rafael’s retaliation and subsequent dismissal will not prove costly, but the incident showed the young defender is still prone to losing his cool when provoked.

Was that Red Card Deserved or was Howard Webb too Strict?

Sports / Christian Benteke Ready For Arsenal? by samsumgsapple(m): 6:36pm On Mar 29, 2013
Is Christian Benteke ready for Europe's top clubs?

Postby Da_morino » Fri Mar 29, 2013 2:44 pm
Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke will be hot property this summer whether his club are relegated or not.

Arsenal have been credited with a £14 million interest (via The Birmingham Mail), while The Daily Mail believe Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool all want a piece of the action too.

Now his agent, Eris Kismet, is stirring the pot with talk of a transfer to Internazionale (via Sky Sports), and it begs the question: all these links to top clubs, is the man good enough?

There's no doubting the fact that Paul Lambert's £7 million signing has made a massive impact.

In the English Premier League, Benteke has 13 goals and four assists in 25 games. He netted four in the Capital One Cup this season too, taking his overall tally just three shy of the coveted 20-goal mark with eight fixtures to play.

Since the turn of the year he's been a force: scoring six goals over a five-game span, he's become the second-most prolific EPL striker in 2013 behind Luis Suarez.

He's added an element of consistency to his existing game, which is built on power, athleticism and finishing.

But when he arrived at Villa in August he was a very raw footballer.

On his debut against Swansea at Villa Park, he scored a memorable goal, chipping Michel Vorm, but five minutes previous had missed an absolute howler.

There was only one thing running through Villa fans' minds at that point: "Please do not be the next Emile Heskey."

He showed signs of progression over the next month, and it's arguable he was truly noticed during Villa's 3-2 home loss to Manchester United.

That signalled his emergence as a powerful, strong presence on the field...more at

Sports / Nigerians Should Be Allowed To Watch The Afcon Final by samsumgsapple(m): 7:08am On Feb 08, 2013
As we all look forward to the anticipated victory of the Super eagles against Burkina fasso on sunday, Is it not sad that 90percent of Nigerians won't be able to watch this match from their homes due to a breakdown in negotiation between the Broadcasting organisation of Nigeria(BON) and LC2 communication, broadcast right owners of the AFCON 2013.
To think that the President and lots of government officials will be in South Africa to watch and cheer the Super eagles on sunday, when majority of Nigerians will have to go pay at viewing centers to do same is absurd. Chairman of Daar communication, owners of Raypower and AIT, High Chief Alegho Dokpesi said that statistically, less than 10percent of Nigerians have Dstv in their homes.
The Assistant media director of the NFF said the victory is for Nigerians, if indeed its for Nigerians then everyone Nigerian, rich or poor must be able to watch from their homes come sunday.
Please let's join the conversation and make our voices heard until the President does something about this, we have shown with the OccupyNigeria that we can be strong as a Nation, so let's do this again as it is our right to watch the Super eagles on local tv on sunday. Join the conversation here: http://isabisoccer.com till we are heard or better still rebroadcast till it gets to the President. God bless the Super eagles, God bless Nigeria, powered by www.isabisoccer.com.
