‘Soundtrack’ singer and former Square Records signee, May D got more than he bargained for when he rode a hoverboard at the popular Ikeja Mall during the week.
According to the pained singer who took to Twitter to vent his anger, in a series of tweets, he explained that tear-gas was also used on him in the process.
In his words, “‘I’m going to sue Ikeja City Mall for using tear gas on me just because I was riding my hoverboard. I must get to the buttom (sic) of this I swear…I’m not going to keep quiet on this…brought out a gun to shoot me for what? Anyway, they will say we’re in naija and nothing will happen; no wonder peeps don’t like mainland.
They used tear gas on me and assaulted me; even almost shot me just for using my hoverboard at Shoprite…what illiterates. This thing is really baffling me, because don’t they know what it is?”
And at the end, they beg me to keep quiet and not say anything…after embarrassing, assaulting and threatening to kill me just because of a hoverboard…I don’t like talking but they took this too far.”
He continued, ‘We need more malls so this guys know they aren’t s**t. They tried to obtain me from my hoverboard…na wah o in my own country at gunpoint in (sic) city mall…’
“I’m only trying to fight for those that can’t do anything about such situations…I can imagine if it was just a normal guy…I can see that we don’t want to move forward in this country.’
It will be recalled that the singer had days before the incident performed on his hoverboard at the Ibadan leg of the Star Music trek. Perhaps, he got carried away by the hype his stunt generated on stage and tried to replicate it in Lagos before it went awry.
A hoverboard is described by Wikipedia as a levitating board used for personal transportation.’
It is basically a skateboard without wheels, and it was first featured in the futuristic movie, ‘Back to the Future.’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the Service Chiefs for showing leadership by example by personally taking charge of the ongoing stepped-up fight against Boko Haram, calling the development a breath of fresh air in the counter-insurgency battle.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the widely published report that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, and the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, are personally coordinating the efforts of their troops in the theatre of war is the best news to have emerged from the frontline of the Boko Haram battle.

Meanwhile, the party has also commended the State Governors, mostly in the North-west, who have decided to work together to address the security challenges in the area, especially the worsening cases of cattle rustling that cuts right into the artery of the economic well being of the people of the region.
It said the efforts, which have led to the recovery of over 3,000 cows and the arrests of some bandits by the joint security task force set up by the states, must continue unhindered.
”Cattle rustling and the other security challenges in the North-west in particular are all inter-linked and must be addressed holistically.
This is why we are delighted that the Governors of states within and outside the North-West – Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Kano and Sokoto – have decided to pool their resources to ensure that there is no hideout for criminals or terrorists,” APC said

Muslims have misconstrued the true teachings of Islam This was made known at the Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the United Kingdom Hampshire farm known as ‘Hadeeqatul Mahdi’ with more delegates and guests.
Over 35,000 people from over 90 countries including Nigeria are present at the event.
The World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad in his Friday Sermon, said Muslims have misconstrued the true teachings of Islam and that the purpose of the Jalsa Salana was to promote the true and peaceful teachings of Islam.
His Holiness also raised the Flag of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, whilst Rafiq Hayat, the National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the United Kingdom, raised the Union Jack.
In his address, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that where the Jalsa is a spiritual gathering to increase faith in God, it is also be a means of increasing humanity and a sense of brotherhood.
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: “According to the teachings of the Holy Quran, the love that a Muslim must adopt for humanity should be such that he or she should become restless upon seeing any other person in discomfort.
A true Muslim must always be watchful of the sentiments of others and must sacrifice his own comfort for the sake of the comfort of his fellow beings.”
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad also said: “In this day and age it is of great regret that some Muslims have misconstrued the true teachings of Islam to such an extent that the world has become fearful of the beautiful and peaceful teachings of Islam.”
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued: “When people are presented with the true teachings of Islam by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, they are left shocked or surprised.
Many have said to me personally that if what you present are the true teachings of Islam then the world will gladly once again turn towards religion and towards Islam.”
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: “Muslims are commanded only to live peacefully with one another. The Holy Prophet (peace be on him) said, ‘A Muslim is the one from whose hands and tongue every peaceful human being is safe.’”
His Holiness stated that Ahmadi Muslims must always seek to spiritually and morally enhance themselves.
The Jalsa Salana is being broadcast live and streamed online by MTA International to millions of viewers across the world.

You are just being sentimental in your post. I guess your house or any of your properties have not been demolished before. Or maybe you dont even own one. I dont blame you because you dont know what it takes to own a property you laboured for. This act of Fayose is not common among Governors in Nigeria. I recall when Aregbesola demolished houses, shops, schools, churches in Osun State, he neither compensate nor relocate the shop owners. I recall how many people died, became paralysed due to this wicked act. Most people lost all their source of income and have not recovered till date. The most painful part is that he didnt even build anything in the places he demolished till date. Honestly people should commend Fayose rather than condem him for this singly act. Truely he has the interest of the masses in his heart.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has declared that the state shall never again be governed by those who will borrow billions of naira to plant flowers and create comfort for themselves alone.

Fayose, who was reacting to an interview of former Governor Kayode Fayemi in some newspapers in which he said that “his legacy was being destroyed”, affirmed that his government was destroying the legacies of huge debt, unpaid salaries, white elephant projects, bad governance and corruption allegedly left behind by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of Dr. Fayemi, adding that  no responsible government will sustain a legacy of over N86 billion debt that was incurred on projects with no direct bearing on the welfare of the people.
In a statement issued on Thursday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it
was necessary for Fayemi’s negative legacies to be destroyed, adding that; “Even in the APC, his legacy of betrayal of Senator Bola Tinubu,
the man who made him governor is being destroyed.”
“Today, Fayemi has been ostracized by those who assisted him to Office because he has betrayed all of them, including Tinubu.
“Does he then wants us to sustain the legacy of serial betrayal of his benefactors?
“If he served Ekiti and its people well, why was it that he was roundly defeated in all the 16 local councils in the State in the June
21, 2014 governorship election and his party was also defeated 16 – 0 in the Presidential, National Assembly and House of Assembly
elections?
“Even his own party men described his electoral defeat as the worst in Nigeria,” he said.
The governor, who said it was shameful that Fayemi, who left two months’ salary and four months cooperative and unions deductions from
workers salary, as well as pensioners pensions and gratuities unpaid could be talking about his legacies being destroyed, asked; “Did
Fayemi leave behind any positive legacy in Ekiti?”
He said; “When Fayemi became governor, he choose to close down two universities established by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
government of Segun Oni and abandoned the Oba Adejugbe General Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, claiming that the State could not fund more than
one university.
“The same Fayemi, who said Ekiti had no money to fund more than one university preferred to take N25 billion bond to plant flowers that
never germinated up till now and build a new governor’s lodge, civic centre, pavilion and execute other irrelevant projects.
“Furniture alone, in the N3.3bn governor’s lodge that he built for himself and his wife cost N604.9 million and Fayemi wants such legacy
of profligacy to be sustained in Ekiti? We are sorry to tell him that we won’t sustain such legacy of waste.
“Even vehicles bought for traditional rulers and political appointees, his government did not pay and uncompleted Oba Adejugbe General
Hospital and State Pavilion were commissioned with fanfare.
“Today, Ekiti State is under the yoke of debt, courtesy of Fayemi’s mismanagement of the State resources and what we are destroying are
those legacies of mis-governance he left behind.
“One bad news that we must however tell Fayemi is that; we won’t only destroy his legacy of mis-governance and betrayal in Ekiti, we will
also make sure that economic devourers like him will never taste power in the State.”

Balogun Ogedengbe of Ijesaland

Born as Orisarayibi Ogundamola, (His passion for leadership earned him the appellation Ogedengbe).

He was born in 1822 to Apasan Borijiwa and Juola Orisatomi, and his birth according to Yoruba history coincided with the annual Ogun festival.

Aponlese 1, was the Owa of Ilesha at the time the young leader to be born. It was customary for the Owa during this Ogun festival to invite all the ‘babalawos’ (medicine men) in the Ijesha territory to come and predict what will be the outcome of the new year to come.

It was at this meeting that one particular ‘babalawo’ predicted that on an ‘Isegun’ day in 1822, a child will be born in the land, and he will deliver the Ijesha people from its oppressor(s).

And when the day came the Owa sent all his servants to all ‘igberikos’ and as predicted by the ‘babalawo’, Ogedengbe was the only baby who was said to be seen born on that day. After the naming ceremony, he was carried from his father’s house in Ijoka Ilesha to Atorin his mother’s village, about 24 kilometres away from Ilesha township.

History has it that Atorin, towards the end of the 18th century consisted of only six to eight huts and an average estimation of 40 people. Cut away from the Ijesha town, Atorin was a very poor village with a tiny connecting route to Ilesha town.

Because of the circumstance surrounding his birth and the plan of the Owa to keep a close eye on the young Ijesha savior, it was said that he was pampered and loved by his parents, and he was still breast-feeding at the age of seven. Growing up, the young Ogedengbe was a rascal, known for his rude attitude toward old people, and he had the very strange habit of calling his parents by their first name with no care.

Such was his wild behavior before the age of fifteen when he went on a voluntary exile, because of the personal assault he encountered in a woman called ‘Salakenu’ a villager in Atorin reputable for her witchcraft.

He later fled to Ilesha where he was received by his father and close associate. Due to his rascal attitude and restlessness, he found a common cause with a popular age group called the “Ipaye” which had an age range of 15-24 years. At 17, Ogedengbe was elected the deputy leader of the group. As a socio-political unit in Ilesha then, the “Ipaye” was responsible for cutting and fixing public buildings like the Palace, the shrine, Market stalls, building and repairing of roads and making sure orderliness prevailed in the town then. It was from this group that Ogedengbe was catapulted into political limelight.

At about the age of 35, around 1857, Ogedengbe decided to get married to a beautiful young Ijesha woman called “Orisaleke” but the parents of the girl opposed the marriage, simply because of Ogedengbe’s lifestyle, which was considered wild and reckless then.

Ogedengbe being who he was, forcibly took the girl from her parents’ house damning the consequences. The matter was later reported to the Owa, and Ogedengbe was sentenced to three months in prison.

After his release, quite a number of incidents sprung up that turned the young Ijesha man into a full war general. Not only that, but one of the greatest in Yoruba land. One was the liberation of villages surrounding Ekiti (Efon, Itaawure, and Oke-Mesi) from their Ibadan oppressor, and also the 1867 attack on Igbajo by llesha and a reverse attack on Ilesha by Ibadan, which forced the collapse of the Ijesha army and the flight of Ogedegbe to Ita-Ogbolu.

And as time went on, his powers and popularity were growing fast. Apart from his reckless, diplomatic and commanding leadership, Ogedengbe was also said to have possessed great magical powers, which came into full limelight during and after the Ekitiparapo war. His encounters with Ibadan also proved the general in him.

The first was in 1864 when he was captured while assisting in the defense of Ilara against the Ibadan troops, and the second time was in 1867 when he was captured during the Igbajo war. It was during this war a young Ibadan soldier severed Ogedengbe’s head off during the war, and the Ijesha general staggered back, rolled, picked up the fallen head and fixed it back on his body.

This made his enemies terrified of his person. After this incident, he was captured by Ibadan’s own General Bashorun Ogunmola, who decided to humiliate Ogedengbe by disfiguring his face with Ibadan tribal marks, hoping someone will later take him for an Ibadan man and kill him, but this didn’t happen. Ogedengbe learnt a lot of military tactics, secrets and trainings while in captive in Ibadan. These two occasions brought out the “general” in Ogedengbe.

During the Ekitiparapo war, it was said that Ogedengbe would stay in his house and fire arrows from his room to the battle field, he was also known for his random disappearing acts, which made him difficult to kill by his enemies.

Known for his diplomatic and charismatic attitude, he was also a fond addict of the native sniff called “taba”. Being a war general, he didn’t trust people for fear of being poisoned, so most times he normally sent his dog on errands to the market.

At that time in Ilesha, the sight of the dog was abnormal because no one had ever seen a dog as tall and huge like that before. Eye witness account says the dog was similar to a wild beast, while walking on the road, people ran at the sight of the dog. He normally tied a sack of cowries and samples of what he wants to buy around the dog's neck, and the dog goes to the market and walks straight to the ‘Iya Loja's' tent.

The ‘Iya Loja'’ is the female head chief of the market. The woman unties the rag around the dog’s neck, fills it with the required goods and the dog returns to its owner. And as the dog returns to its owner, the house owner of every house it passes must greet the dog saying, “ L’o gun ofe oooo”. Any house owner who doesn’t salute the dog will be reported to Ogedengbe. Mysteriously, the dog disappeared after Ogedengbe died.

After the Ekitiparapo war and the great trouble periods in the history of Yoruba land, Ogedengbe settled back in Ilesha, but his band of war boys could not contain themselves to the new peaceful atmosphere, they went raiding people, harassing and kidnapping innocent citizens.

This prompted Captain R.L Bower to arrest the war general in 1894 with his friend Prince Fabunmi, the Owa of Ilesha. Frederick Haastrup pleaded passionately for the release of Ogedengbe and after much begging to Governor Carter, he was released after a lengthy sum of £6,000.00 were posted for his bail.

Ogedengbe was conferred with a chieftaincy title of Obanla of Ilesha in 1898, thus the highest mark for his gallant achievements in the Kiriji/Ekitiparapo war. The restless, reckless and powerful Ogedengbe now after so many years of war and fights, now became a respectable chief and his service was now to the people.

Ogedengbe was no doubt one of the greatest war generals who ever lived in Yoruba land. His great wisdom and diplomatic war-like manners saw the Yoruba through the Ekitiparapo war. A real war master, his study of war tactics and war weaponry were second to none. A straight-forward man who always kept to his promises.

The Ijesha people will forever continue to cherish his memory. A cenotaph was erected for him at the Obokungbusi Town Hall. And the Ogedengbe Memorial School in Ilesha is a monumental masterpiece in his memory. Till this day, he remains the greatest warrior in Ijesha land, Hence this praise song.

Guinean President Alpha Conde said Wednesday that the country is ready to help in the regional fight against Islamist militants from Boko Haram.
“We are ready to provide any assistance asked of us… in the fight against Boko Haram,” Conde told a press conference in Niger’s capital Niamey at the end of a two-day visit.
“It will depend on what our brothers (in Nigeria and neighbouring countries) ask. That’s for them to tell us what they want from us,” he added, hailing the determination of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to fight against the jihadist force.

Boko Haram’s bloody insurgency in Nigeria has left more than 15,000 people dead since 2009 and has increasingly spread across the country’s borders, with Chad and Cameroon suffering deadly suicide bombings in recent months.
Last week the Nigerian commander of a new multinational force set up to fight Boko Haram Islamists pledged to bring an end to their six-year insurgency “very soon”.
The force will contain troops from Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad, with Benin also committed to help.
The 8,700-strong force has its headquarters in the Chadian capital N’Djamena.
However Buhari has complained of a lack of resources, saying: “After the promises of G7 countries to help the region defeat Boko Haram, we are waiting for training, equipment and intelligence assistance.”
The jihadist group has stepped up its attacks since Buhari took office in May, unleashing a wave of violence that has claimed more than 800 lives in just two months.
“The multinational joint force will eradicate… the blind terrorism of Boko Haram,” Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou said in a televised speech on Sunday.
Conde stressed that “whatever the will of Niger or Chad, there must first be a strong involvement of Nigeria.”
Chad and Niger have repeatedly complained of a lack of coordination with the Nigerian army, and of having been prevented from carrying out full operations against Boko Haram within Nigerian territory.

The seven man ad-hoc investigation committee set up by the speaker of Osun state House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salam to investigate the petition of Justice Folahanmi Oloyede against governor Rauf Aregbesola and her deputy, Mrs Titilayo Laoye Tomori has today submitted its report to the house.
The house unanimously agreed that the petition should be dismissed in its entirety for lacking in merit.

ABUJA – Nigeria will today, assume the one-month rotational Presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council as the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Joy Ogwu, takes over from Ambassador Gerard van Bohemen, the Permanent Representative of New Zealand, who held the Presidency for the month of July, 2015.
 
In a statement yesterday, by the Spokesperson to Mrs Ogwu, Dr. Tope Adeleye Elias-Fatile, said this will be the first time in the history of the UN that an elected member of the Security Council would assume presidency of the Council for the 4th time in two separate tenures within 5 years. 
 
Nigeria was elected a non-permanent member of the Council on 17 October, 2013, and is serving for the period 2014 – 2015. 
 
“This is the fifth time since independence that Nigeria has been elected to serve on this most powerful decision-making organ of the United Nations charged with the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security.  Nigeria previously served on the Council from 1966 – 1967, 1978 – 1979, 1994 – 1995 and 2011 – 2012. 
 
“Nigeria’s return to the Council in January 2014, after having left only in December 2012, represents one of the shortest periods in the annals of the United Nations that a Member State has spent between two terms on the Council. “Nigeria currently holds the chair of two Security Council Committees: The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2048 (2012) concerning Guinea-Bissau and Iraq Sanctions Committee pursuant to resolution 1518 (2003). In addition, Nigeria is one of the three vice-chairs of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004), concerning the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and one of the two vice-chairs of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1591 (2005) concerning Sudan,” it reads. 
 
It said wide consultations with various stakeholders had begun on Monday 27th of July, 2015 towards Nigeria’s assumption of the presidency of the Council. 
 
“With the support of other members of the Council, Nigeria will use its month-long presidency to actively promote the cause of international peace and security in line with the principles of the UN Charter and the mandate of the Council,” the statement concluded.

At least 100 militants have been killed in an operation launched a fortnight ago against Boko Haram jihadists holed up in the islands of Lake Chad, the Chadian army said in a statement Friday.
“117 terrorists have been killed, two Chadian soldiers died and two others were wounded” in the operation, said army spokesman Colonel Azem Bermendoa Agouna, adding the operation was ongoing. There was no immediate confirmation of the toll by an independent source.

Former World Cup and Premier League star Jay-Jay Okocha could be on the verge of a shock move to amateur side Wolverton Town after playing for their reserve side last week, the club confirmed.
Okocha, 41, played 45 minutes for Wolverton’s reserves against Arlesey Town reserves last week, but has not yet decided on whether to make a permanent move to the Milton Keynes club.

Wolverton, who currently ply their trade in the Spartan South Midlands League, were tight-lipped about Okocha’s long-term future.
Amanda Keech, chairperson of Wolverton Town, said: “He did play 45 minutes last week for us but we can’t say either way whether he will sign yet.
“He is friends with somebody who coaches at the club and could be helping out with pre-season training with the players. We will be able to say more once he has decided.”
Okocha started his career with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt before spells at European giants Fenerbahçe and Paris St-Germain.
Premier League fans will remember him from his time at Bolton Wanderers, during which he made more than 100 Premier League appearances. He also helped Hull City win promotion from the Championship in 2008, after playing 18 times for the Yorkshire side.
Okocha also made 73 appearances for Nigeria, playing in both the 1998 and 2002 World Cups and captained his country for nearly four years. With Nigeria he won the 1994 African Cup of Nations and a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
He was named Nigerian Footballer of the Year no fewer than seven times and was even named in the Fifa 100 – Pele’s list of the top 100 greatest living footballers.
