I just saw an advert on Page 60 of today's (Aug. 26, 2014) Punch Newspaper.

Students who are still interested in writing this year's GCE can still register by going into any of WAEC's Zonal/Branch Office with 2 Passport Photographs, in addition to the registration fee of #25,00 in bank draft not later than the day of the paper they intend to write.

Except for the cost, I guess this will be good news for those that did not do well in the recently released WAEC.

I just cant stop wondering why the process for Certificate collection from Higher Institutions in Nigeria is so tedious.

I graduated from Yabatech in 2005 and went to school to ‘collect’ my certificate a few weeks ago.  I was given a clearance form that required approval/signatures from six different officers in the school!!!

If I am lucky to get all the approvals/signatures I would still have to wait for four weeks before the certificate will be ready for collection.

I did my MBA at Unilag and it’s the same thing. But at Unilag I’m also expected to come with all the original school fees receipts for the four semesters I spent there!!! And certificates can only be collected forthnightly!

My questions are:

1.       Is this the process in all Nigerian schools or it’s just this two?

2.       Cant this process be improved?

3.       Cant we just do things in a better way?

4.       Cant certificates be issued immediately results are released?

5.       Why wait for 2 to 3 years after graduation before certificates can be issued?

I dont think the lectures are so expensive when you compare it to some other professional exams. If you can afford it, please pay and attend lectures.


On the other hand, if you think its expensive you should try 2 study really hard on your own.


I studied 4d part 2 exams on my own and I passed, but I attended lectures 4d other diets and passed too. I would say that it was easier 4 me when I attended lectures than when I studied on my own.

I'm in a dilemma. I have been working in telecoms company since november 2006. The pay is a bit okay but the cost of transportation is quite high. I got an offer this morning in an oil company for a contract position that is renewable every year(which may or may not be renewed). The pay is obviously higher, lunch will be provided by the company, there is staff bus to take me to and from the office everyday, basic provisions will be given at the beginning of every month. 13th month salary is a whole month salary which will be paid at the end of each year plus 'turkey' allowance.

The issue here is should I leave a permanent job for a contract job. Usually, i get home at about 9 to 9.30 each day, but with the contract job, i'm sure of getting home before 6.30pm each day. I intend to start classes for my 2nd degree in december, this contract job will give me more than enough time to run the program.

I dont want to take this decision alone, please nairalanders, send in your comments. I have to call the oil company before the end of the day to tell them my decision. Please help.
