First of all I am happy for you

The first thing anyone will ever pay you is attention.

And you already got that

you have their attention but it's not leading to action

And it's annoying, we know


But instead of playing out a Telenova in your head and just assuming that they are "Haters" who will burn in hell with Judas for doing such an evil and wicked thing like not buying from you

What you should do is ask WHY?

1) Is it about price?

Are your prices competitive in the market you serve

If your price is higher than your competitors, is it because your services are better in anyway?

Or did you just hike prices to pay for Asoebi?


Are your prices lower because you have a competitive edge and as such you can charge less

Whether it's lower or higher you must subtly explain why in your marketing

2) Place

Are they buying from others because they prefer to know where the vendor is located and they prefer if it's in their city

(you know, so they know where to find you if they want to beat you if you mess up �)


Or they like to have a feel of the product before they buy?

How do you handle these objections?

Testimonials or reviews of other people you have you have served in their vicinity?

3) Enthusiasm :

I am sorry to be the one to break it to you Mr Anonymous Vendor but money follows enthusiasm. If you are not excited about your products, who will?

Do you make cold posts with the same old caption or do you tell an attention grabbing story when you make posts?


Do you constantly create offers to knock the doubters off the fence

Or Do you just wake up and post "Now open for business" everyday?

People are buying something every minute of every day

If they aren't buying from you there's a reason why

Sometimes it's you

Sometimes it's them

Sometimes it's the product

Whatever the objections are identify it and tackle it head on

1) In the process of making a sale. Try to hold your prospect’s hands and do a moonwalk (the Michael Jackson part)

What do you mean Samuel?

I am glad you asked….

Every sale provides you with an opportunity to make money and have a better understanding of why people buy your product and why they buy from you

Don't just jump to telling them the price, sending your account number and calling your favourite dispatch rider to deliver

Ask questions. (but don’t bombard em with it, some people don’t have the time for it so use your discretion)

"Oh, do you need this for an event?"

"Are you buying it as a gift?"

Walk backwards with them and find out what led them to you


Ask with intent to help them make a better buying decision and they will trust you

While also gaining valuable market insight

And this helps your business because…….

2) Different Bait for different fish (the fisherman part)

They might end up buying the exact same thing but what brings customers to you is likely very different and very specific

When you do that moonwalk what you are doing is reverse-engineering the basic Marketing funnel

Attention >> Interest >> Desire >>> Action (Basic Marketing funnel)

They are trying to take action now but what is their core Desire

What made them interested in buying from you

And what planted the seed of interest in their Head? (What grabbed their attention?)

People always have their attention somewhere

They always have something on their mind -

If you can know the conversation going on in the minds of your customers that lead them to you

You can use that same bait to grab the attention of other people like them

Do the moonwalk to find out how they got to you

Use what you learn as Bait to get other people like them

First of all

I am sorry to hurt your feelings buy

When you pay a Graphics designer to whip up a cool logo and e-flier for you

Then you tell all your friends to post it on their whatsapp status by 8pm with your really cool caption that reads

"something big is cooking"

That is not starting a brand

That is just you and your friends posting logos

A brand is a result of your most consistent business/marketing activities

Whether you are intentional about those activities or not

It's beyond colors and a badass logo

But this is not a Brand 101 master class

so I will just stick to 1 key component of branding that a small business must pay attention to and that is.

Personality: Brand personality is a set of human characteristics that are attributed to a brand

Like how

Coca-Cola is about excitement

& Apple is innovative ; passionate and aspirational

You know what to expect from them because their product, their delivery and their marketing tell a story about who they are and what they stand for

these big businesses have marketing teams and crazy budgets

That ensure all they do is consistent and on brand

But for you

Its just you, your phone and your data subscription

So what do you do?

Like it or not,

Your business will take on your personality

How you talk!

Who you are!

And that is fine because you get to be you

But what most small business owners do is they take on this neutral robotic personality

And what is their excuse?

"It's business. I have to be official"

So they hide behind their colors and logos

And all people see is product pictures and price lists.

And you wonder why people don't chose you?

Put yourself at the center of your brand.

Let people know, like and trust you

Let them trace your business to an actual human being.

They can like or. Hate you

Its okay!
