It has been disclosed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has released 1,500 trucks of kerosene for distribution to the public. Media Officer of the Port Harcourt Refinery Petroleum Company Limited, Mr. Ikenna Okpani, disclosed this on Wednesday during the flag-off of the ‘kero-correct’ campaign in Calabar, Cross River State. Leading the team of the kero-correct campaign in the state, Okpani said the campaign was to ensure the availability of kerosene at the government approved price of N50.00 per litre. Okpani said: “Approximately, we have released 1,500 trucs (40, 000 litres per truck) of kerosene for the purpose of this campaign which will last for three months. “These trucks of kerosene would be distributed to the 37 NNPC mega stations, 12 floating mega stations and 524 NNPC affiliate stations across the country over the period of three months.” He said the campaign was an initiative of the federal government to get kerosene to consumers at government approved price of N50.00 per litre. “We have discovered over time that a lot of Nigerians are not getting this product at the approved price across the country. “And the federal government, in its wisdom through the NNPC, has decided to bring this product to consumers in the country,” Okpani said. He said his team has the mandate of enforcing certain regulations that would ensure availability of the products to every consumer at all selling points. Speaking on the mode for distribution Okpani said: “Consumers are to queue for the products at every station; there are also restricted from buying above 25 litres of the products at a time. “Anyone who prefers to buy additional number of litres beyond the first 25 litres would have to go to the queue again after the first purchase. “This development is to check racketeering of the product and to ensure that the product gets to everyone.” Okpani stated that the NNPC was collaborating with an organisation to ensure that the price of the product is sold at N50 per litre to consumers. Also speaking, the state leader of the kero-correct, Ms. Comfort Effiong, said the initiative was aimed at getting the product to the final consumers at the approved government price. Effiong stated that the organisation would be in the state to ensure that the price of a litre of kerosene is sold for N50 per litre and that the product gets to the people in the rural areas of the state. source< http://voiceofcalabar..com/2015/02/cross-river-receives-1500-trucks-of.html

The paramount ruler of Bakassi Local Government Area, Obong (Dr) Etim Okon Edet in a session with news men at his palace revealed that Boko Haram menace in Nigeria started in Bakassi, Cross River State assuring that the violence will not stop until something is done about the Bakassi people. Dr Etim Okon opined that all the great and mighty handiwork of Boko Haram started immediately after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgement ceded Bakassi to Cameroon. “When Bakassi was ceded as a result of the ICJ judgement, it was not only Bakassi that was affected. Adamawa, Bornu and Yobe axis were also affected on the land boundary. On the maritime boundary, it was Bakassi. Now in those areas, nobody has said anything because they were resettled properly. You will not hear any complain from them as they were resettled by the Presidential Resettlement Committee. I have the report. It was the same committee that was supposed to come to Bakassi area,” Dr Etim said. The paramount ruler went further to talk of the unseen N100 billion approved by Federal Government for Bakassi resettlement and figured out ‘high injustice’ in the nation as the sustenance of Boko Haram: “There is too much injustice. That is why there is Boko Haram. And it will not stop until the Federal Government holistically looks at the Bakassi issue. How many committees have been set up for this and I keep saying these are not necessary. We now saw in 2014 budget N100 billion for resettlement of Bakassi people, but we have not seen anything. Also the Efiok Cobham Resettlement Committee white paper is not out. What is the justice there?” Talking of the collective efforts of religious fellowships offering prayers to end Boko Haram, Dr Etim said: “It is not prayers. People have been praying. There are so many churches and the thing is still going on. So these are the questions that people should ask. There must be fundamental causes for what is happening. Until we address that, we cannot fix the problem”. Dr Etim regrettably questioned the role of Nigeria and Cross River State government; “Nobody even has the conscience to ask ‘where are these people and what is happening to them?’ I don’t understand when they say the welfare and security of a people shall be the primary purpose of the government”. source; http://voiceofcalabar..com/2015/02/boko-haram-started-in-bakassi-nigeria.html

A truck load with 400 10kg bags of rice was yesterday Sunday January 4th, 2015 delivered at Mega Hilton hotel in obudu local government of Cross River State. According to #crossriverwatch, the bags of rice were part of contribution from a business man based in Abuja Mr Arikpo Ettah Jnr. to the 2015 governorship campaign of the People Democratic Party (PDP) flag beare Senator Ben Ayade. Mr. Etta, a Cross Riverian from Yakurr LGA told CrossRiverWatch in Abuja that he is fascinated by the emergence of Ayade as the PDP flag bearer and will make his own personal contribution even beyond the bags of rice to ensure that Ayade becomes governor in 2015. Also said "his confidence in the PDP flag bearer was not just because age was still on his side but also because he has always seen Ayade as someone with modern and progressive ideas and a people centered philosophy." “Ayade is still young. He has modern ideas and from some of the programs he has done in the northern part of the state, it is clear that he thinks about the poor. I am confident that he has sufficient education, experience and the capacity to drive development in our state. I am not making this donation in anticipation of profit, I am doing this as a Cross Riverian who wants to support change and the aspiration of our people for a better Cross River under the leadership of a competent manager who we have found in Ayade.” He congratulated all those who contested the ticket with Ayade, particularly Prince Jedy Agba for having the courage to step down for the Senator. #voiceofcalabar Source: voiceofcalabar..com

The mystery shallow water that takes life of people that enters it, located at Lemna/Marian Road extension, by the newly constructed overhead bridge, in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State, yet took the life of a father and the daughter as they disappeared mysteriously into the shallow stagnant water.. The wife of the deceased (Mrs Kate Ime Innocent) narrated via Maryeteng blog that her husband left the house with my two children, Ruth and Divine (male) to this place to wash his vehicle. He used to plight Calabar - Lagos, Calabar – Abuja routes, few hours later, people came to tell me that water has swallowed her husband and daughter, Ruth. Kate, who could not talk again due to grief, beckoned on her son, Divine, to tell how it happened. Throwing more light on the death of his father and sister, 13 year old Divine, said after they had finished washing the vehicle, his father went back to the pond to bath, but that suddenly; the father was seen struggling with something which was seemingly dragging him down. “At that point, my sister, Ruth, jumped in to help him out but both of them then disappeared; I could not see them again. Something told me to jump in too but I did not so I started to cry out for help,” little Divine said amidst tears. In the midst of that confusion, our reporter said, a man, identified as a highly spiritual man vested with knowledge of such matters appeared. He was said to have been contacted by family members for the rescue mission. After pouring libations repeatedly and making some incantations, the man, whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, jumped into the pond, and in a twinkle of an eye, dragged out two bodies. They were stone dead. The corpses were identified by Mrs Kate as her husband and daughter. The deceased Hiace bus, with registration number, CAL 85 XA was stationed at the scene of the incident. anonymouse source who happened to have witness the incident said that same stagnant water took the lives of 5 people within the month of November, 2014, including that of a male student of Government Technical Collage, 8 miles Calabar, who was buried right by the pond. some other witness said the pond has become an abode of death. Taxi drivers who used to come here to wash their vehicles should avoid this place. Parents should equally warn their children never to come here to bath.
