Racoon:Kudos to our wonderful ladies and sisters!.. I was shocked when we were two goals down... But thanks be to GOD... for the resilient spirit and determination of our Super Falcons... we finally overcame... This should teach us as Nigerians... that with a purposeful resolve... we can rewrite our history... because already GOD is for us... Congrats once again Super Falcons... the sky is just our beginning point... |
ogododo:All these age pegging recently placed by education ministry are backward steps to nation building... It will lead to parents sending their children abroad to achieve their destiny... Consider this... if you make compulsory that every child must complete secondary school on their 18 years birthday... have you considered cases of those who may repeat classes... and those who are academically excellent... To be very sincere... considering our need to raise children who are intelligent to solve our national issues... and compete with their fellows globally... these age limitations would be scrapped... To set things straight... I graduated from university... with a B.Sc at the age of 19 years.... |
Ofunaofu:I am of the opinion that this proposed bill is at the extreme... Private Schools and Private Medical Centres are owned by entrepreneurs.... who pay taxes.. and not detrimental to Nigeria economy and security... Government public schools and medical centres have helped to ensure these essential services are available to even the low income earners... and some of these institutions receive support from NGOs... and most of these facilities are presently overcrowded... Erasing the access to these private schools and medical centres by public servants will infringe on their rights to quality services... and also impact the economy by resulting to low sales to these entrepreneurs' businesses Rather... the bill should propose the Nigerian government ban with respect to sponsoring financial bills of government officials who patronize foreign medical centres and schools... |
Ojimaojo11:How about visiting Proforce... Innoson... and other local automobile makers... These are known known armored vehicles manufacturers... Although I do not discourage foreign investment coming into Nigeria... but the existing local brands should not just survive... rather do exploits... Just as I earlier mentioned... It is ultra vires for Nigerian government to patronize a foreign brand while there are existing local brands... |
wonderworld:We need a government that shows it really cares for her citizens... and able to revive the economy... The reason why these employers put Nigerians under those harsh conditions... is because they assume the employees have no other better job offer... When we have a prospered economy... it means more jobs have been created... therefore employers know that without a good welfare package no one would apply to work there... |
nairalanda1:Although, you have a point... but it takes a genius to invent solutions from crude resources... I do not believe it is right to stab an helper because he is not clothed in royal garment... I do not support destroying pipelines to steal petroleum resources... nor support those who connive with foreigners to steal precious metals... But the facts remain that we have a deficit in jobs and wealth creation... and some individuals put in time, efforts, and resources to start up some business... As long as they are not stolen... let them be encouraged to register with the appropriate agencies... and be recognized as legitimate businesses... |
Editorialtimes:Although the Nigerian Military deserves commendation for this act of patriotic zeal... But it's time we do not use our hands to quench the enterprising spirit in the hearts of other patriots... I am aware that apart from crude oil ben extracted... other natural minerals around the country are been exploited without documentation... For us to grow and flourish we need these small and medium businesses... whether those extracting natural resources, or manufacturing, or trading, or any other good venture... We need to encourage them... It is needful for Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to sensitize entrepreneurs on how to be incorporated in Nigeria... because taxes from these businesses are needful for our national development... I request that our gallant military release these persons... and instruct them to properly register their businesses... Remember... Nigeria: Good people, Great nation... |
Unlimitedwords:Congratulations... I love it when I see Nigerian companies becoming a brand... I would say that it is ultra vires for any Nigerian government arm, or ministry, or department, or agency... to patronize any foreign brand... while there is an available local brand... Let's support our local companies... |
ExAngel007:Moral decadence rising to its peak in Nigeria... but we pray that it collapses... When justice is perverted and diligence is not celebrated... what springs up is oppression and corruption... When we as a nation ensure that only persons with integrity occupies leadership positions... then we set the pace for good role-modelling to the younger generation... Kudos to the military for the arrests made... I hope the judiciary serves the right judgement... We will be watching... |
free2ryhme:This event twist is rather apologetic... The truth may seem bitter but it always good to swallow... The Nigeria constitution empowers the NPF to investigate, arrest, and arraign offenders of the law... But over the years... their attitude have displayed complacency... extorting from citizens and providing escort service to those who devour our common wealth... it is like preserving the eggs of a viper, then crying foul when they are grown and turns back to hurt you... Although... the welfare package of most workers in Nigeria is barely able to sustain a family... it would take a new benevolent government to understand this plight... and develop a living wage that enable workers to have excess balance from they earnings to share, save and invest... Remember... I am prepared to be the next President of Nigeria... |
Godspowerpro:This is a good development... Apart from the feature of DIY license registration... this App should be expanded to have other emergency features... such as fire disaster, emergency health, road traffic accident, burglary / security alert... With these additional features.... the upgraded App can work alongside the national emergency hotline... so that Control centres can monitor distress signals from citizens... |
Nemere2020:Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion... But as I said earlier... Nigeria does not need State Police... rather true justice to arising issues... Also... rather than adopt the idea of new states been created ... I would rather reduce the number of states... this would achieve the purpose of resources management, territorial economic expansion, national land utilisation planning, amongst other benefits... |
Babangidapikin:So sad... we have lost a Gem... My heart felt condolence to his family, friends, and colleagues... |
obembet:With regards to this discussion... beautiful responses have been shared my many... both here and on the streets... But a better issue to consider is the mirrored version of this question topic... that is... "As a Citizen of Nigeria, what are the 3 collective things to do to achieve the emergence of a good President?.." Considering the fact that we have chosen national election as the means of bringing forth our country President... which I would also compare to screening candidates to fill in job vacancies... then here are what I think we need to do:.. 1. Don't be a "blind" follower of personalities... whether popular or not... rather ask defining questions prior to the election... because the chosen leader will determine the country outlook... 2. Don't be indifferent... constructively share your choice of candidates policies with those who are naive... so that they also will not remain "blind" followers of those who have nothing to offer... rather would see reasons how their future would be impacted by their choice... 3. Defend your choice... do the needful to be registered early and encourage others to do so... perform the civic duty of voting and wait to hear the results of your polling unit... network with others of like minds to collate declared polling units results and document them... share collated results to the public... with the public aware of the true facts... the people's decision will prevail... |
PMG2024:Good move!.. Preferred Name:.. RENAISSANCE Age State of Origin:.. Imo Educational Qualification:.. B.Sc Political office you intend to contest for:.. President Your current occupation or background:.. Entrepreneur Previous or ongoing contributions to society:.. Both public and private sectors Why you want to run for office:.. To restore and raise Nigeria to best glories Political affiliation: To be disclosed later Your areas of interest... All segments of Nigeria |
nairalanda1:An intelligent write up... but we do not need such amount to revamp out healthcare... Healthcare is like ICT... it has its branches... and most have been productively harnessed in Nigeria by Entrepreneurs... I would rather share with you the sole reason why Nigerian leaders seek foreign medical tourism... I learnt this from an Egyptian colleague... He asked me what I thought was the reason of Nigerian leaders choice of foreign hospitals... I shared some observations... but he said what surprised me... Nigerian leaders travel abroad for treatment because they always want to appear to the public and their oppositions as always healthy... so they sneak abroad to get some health check-up... then on arrival... their media team snap them at the moment their pose strongest ... To sum up the matter... he also said that these government officials are usually managed by Nigerian doctors who are based abroad... |
Love800:Vigilante groups are registered private security organizations that have a limited territory... They are equipped with guns... and are under the supervision of government security forces... They can arrest but not detain suspects... rather hands over suspect to government security forces... While State Police is a full prototype of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) within the state... They duties will clash with the NPF... and could be used as subtle militia by any State Governor with sinister motives... For justice to prevail in the country... and one constitution adhered to... State Police won't achieve this... |
Kemetian:Visionary Entrepreneurs have helped shaped the progressive growth of Nigerian healthcare industry... This investors need to be encouraged by the government... so that they don't just survive the trying times locally... rather do exploit globally... |
baconline:Although you have a point... but this will infringe on individual rights to life and healthcare... Rather... a Executive Order to halt the Nigerian government from sponsoring financial bills incurred by government officials who embark on foreign medical vacations... I can boldly share with you that over the past 15 years... but unknown by many... Nigerian healthcare institutions have greatly improved to meet international standards... I say so because I have been involved... Presently we have in Nigeria... state of art diagnostic centres... fertility centres... transplant centres... orthopedic centres... pharmaceutical manufacturers... All these I mean in terms of facility, equipment, and personnel... Few procedures yet to begin in Nigeria... are lung and brain transplants... But what we presently need is to revive the Nigerian economy... so that our citizens can easily pay for quality healthcare services... |
ogododo:These figures are unnecessarily excessive... I have frequently visited a State Government House clinic... there is nothing special that should arise such a bill... there already have in-house... functional laboratory, imaging equipment and state of art theatre.... Basically what a Government House clinic spends monthly are on drugs and consumables... while salaries are catered by the health ministry... Presently these recurrent bill shouldn't exceed N10million on a monthly basis.... Integrity and accountability is what Nigeria needs to revive... |
iwaeda:This is disheartening... But due to the lack of political will by previous and present Nigerian government to expose sponsors of these terrorism... I therefore, advise residents and indigenes of communities in Nigeria ...that are prone to these terrorists... to sponsor vigilante groups... among whose aims is to dislodge criminals from isolated locations which are been used as hideouts... Also... rather than the contemplated state police... which I don't agree with.... I advise respective State governments to associate and support these vigilante groups... so as to ensure safety and peace within our communities... This should be the temporal remedy... pending when we have a government with godly political will... |
MCentral:Commendable!.. I hope to hear the likes of BUA... and other merchants still investing and completing mega projects in Nigeria... Once again... Kudos to Dangote!.. |
Bobloco:I do not agree with the VP that a sitting President does not have rights to sack elected personalities... Rather... when the doctrine of necessity comes to play.... and the decision to ensure tranquility in the nation... whether for the reasons of preserving lives, or maintaining the attitude of citizens' integrity, or any other cogent reasons... but not for any selfish or sinister ambition... then the President reserves the right to sack any elected or appointed persons... The misinterpretation of the nations constitution by any adviser... does not remove the fact that the citizens have entrusted the sanctity of veto powers upon the sitting President... |
NSNO:Good decision!.. Nigeria should never accept to be a dumping ground for any other nation... Just as President Trump will say " a no deal is better than a bad deal"... |
NSNO:Good decision!.. Nigeria should never accept to be dumping ground... Just as President Trump will say " a no deal is better than a bad deal"... |
AnonPoet:Impressive!.. At this level of impact... more inputs and with better vision... will advance the Nigerian Navy .. Kudos once again to the Nigerian Military!... |
iwaeda:We pray to live in a new Nigeria where every HUMAN life is sacred... |
dominicdavid:Although this is not the storyline "the young shall grow" expect to hear... but it is becoming the true reality here in Nigeria... My take on this is "Dream Again"... this will be my slogan while contesting for Nigeria Presidency... Let's not be moved by political names... while deciding what becomes of our present and future destiny... if they had had over 20 years in power and could not help relieve the burden of the masses... they can't make a difference even if they were given extra one tenure... Let's use this platform to constructively dissect candidates... and discern if they actually understand the issues... and have solutions to our present malady... I know that I have the character... the charisma...and the solutions for good leadership of Nigeria... |
fergie001:Sowore... over the years... has been a good human rights activist in Nigeria... With regards to this case... I do support the immediate release of the staff... under unlawful detention by the Police... Oppression is evil and should never be accepted... |
[quote author=alphonsoolajide post=135947406]A heartbreaking video has emerged online showing a female commercial bus driver in Lagos State tearfully recounting how she was allegedly physically assaulted by agberos (motor park touts) at the Mowe-Ibafo bus stop, after she refused to pay them illegal levies. Eyes Of Lagos reports, The video, shared by social media user @omoelerinjare on X (formerly Twitter), has sparked widespread outrage, especially as the woman—a mother of two—revealed that her only means of survival has now been compromised. 🚐 Assaulted for Saying “I’ll Pay Later” In the video, the distressed woman, who relies on driving her bus for income, explained that she had been out of work for over two months due to engine and gear issues with her vehicle. “I told them I will give them money when I return from my trip. But they beat me, flattened my tyre, and damaged my car. I haven’t worked in two months because of car issues. I’m a mother of two. This is my only hustle,” she sobbed. The attack allegedly took place when the agberos demanded money upfront, and despite her promise to pay later, they assaulted her, deflated her tyres, and removed parts of her vehicle in full public view. 😡 Nigerians React: “This Is Wickedness” Outrage poured in from across the country, as netizens condemned the violent extortion of hardworking citizens by so-called transport union officials. Here are some of the top reactions: @shegs2348: “Report their branch chairman, the people responsible must pay.” @Ifeboy6: “This is one of Tinubu’s greatest criminal legacies. What a country—thugs in corridors of power.” @kinxykel: “A woman hustling legally and men are extorting her? This is wickedness.” @SYVOZEEK149: “In Cross River, women taxi drivers don’t even pay for tickets, let alone get harassed. Lagos is lawless.” 🔎 The Bigger Picture: Who Protects Nigerian Drivers? This incident throws a spotlight on the long-standing issue of agbero (touts) extortion in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria. Despite being technically illegal, these touts often act with impunity under the guise of union enforcement, demanding unauthorized fees from bus drivers—many of whom are barely surviving. The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and other affiliated groups have long been criticized for operating like criminal gangs, especially in Lagos and Ogun States, where drivers are often forced to pay multiple levies daily. 👩🔧 Women in Transport Face More Danger Women in Nigeria’s commercial transport sector face even greater challenges—from harassment and extortion to physical abuse—often with no formal recourse or support systems. The silence and inaction of law enforcement in cases like this have left many female drivers defenseless and invisible. ✊ Call to Action Demand Investigation: The Lagos State Government and transport unions must act to identify and penalize the perpetrators. Protect Female Drivers: Implement policies that protect women in public transport and hold offenders accountable. Reform NURTW & Unions: Establish strict oversight and end illegal fee collection. 📌 Final Thought This story is not just about one woman—it’s about every struggling Nigerian trying to make an honest living in a country where survival is a daily battle. If we don’t raise our voices now, more women will suffer in silence. https://eyesoflagos.com/2025/07/01/lagos-female-bus-driver-beaten-by-agberos-over-n100/ wonder why hooligans parade themselves around extorting money from diligent workers... It is either one is harassed by touts... or molested by security personnel who use check points to extort money from road users.... so many persons have been victims of these corrupt acts... All these evil vices must stop... either willingly or by force .. No corporate union supercede the Sovereignty of Nigeria... if NURTW or RTEAN can't cater for their members and find more polite way to obtain their contributions... then they need to be disbanded... Anyone who wish to associate themselves to any corporate union should do so on the basis of free will and not compulsory... |
Truths9ja:A painful but true rhetorical question asked silently and in the heart of many youths of our present Nigeria... A friend shared with me that the children from his community asked why they were forced to go to school... because those who didn't take academics seriously... rather were radical and blew up pipelines... were the ones been catered by the government and having soldiers as escort... meanwhile the "bookworms" were walking around still sharing their "I beg to apply"" CV... We pray that ALMIGHTY GOD answer our prayers... and give us good leadership... Although I am up for the race of becoming Nigeria next President... I believe this is my good quota to contribute to our Nigeria revival... |
