deesquarediddy:
Nigeria’s crisis is not just political, it’s a value problem. A society that glorifies money without questioning its source creates leaders who buy loyalty instead of earning trust. Poverty and survival have made people accept short-term gains over long-term accountability, while integrity and competence are sidelined.

Moral leadership must emphasize accountability over donations. We must teach that prosperity without integrity is failure, not success. We need a systemic change. Society rewards outcomes (money, status) more than process (honesty, effort)

As 2027 approaches, real change will not come from new faces alone, but from new values, where truth matters more than tribe, integrity more than wealth, and accountability more than personal benefit.
Until Nigerians stop worshipping money and start questioning it, the cycle of bad leadership will continue.

Survival doesn’t erase awareness, it distorts incentives. Many Nigerians know when leadership is failing. The issue isn’t always ignorance; it’s trade-offs. When someone is choosing between principle and feeding their family, short-term survival often wins. That’s not moral failure, it’s economic pressure shaping behavior.

We must put an end to a systems that don’t punish bad behavior. We need Stronger institutions: Laws, courts, electoral systems that function regardless of who is in power. Economic stability reduces manipulation. When people aren’t desperate, they’re harder to buy with rice or cash.

As individuals, we should strive to stop vote buying. Religious and traditional leaders must publicly reject inducements. We young Nigerians should join political parties early (not just during elections), Influence candidate selection at the primary level. Support credible local candidates, not just presidential figures.

As for 2027, here is the kind of president we need:

1.A system builder, not messair. Not someone who promises to fix everything but one who have policies that would strengthen institutions. It's weak systems that allow bad behavior to thrive.

2. Someone that is economically competent. A president who understands inflation, jobs, debts and productivity. Example, tough decisions like subsidy removal should come with clear plans and transparency.

3. A president that is free from Godfatherism and money politics. Can make decisions without paying back hidden debts. Many pas Presidents have ideas too but can't across path with power interests.

4. Someone that is courageous but accountable. Can take tough decisions and also accept scrutiny, criticism and transparency.

5. President that is unifying without exploiting tribe or religion. Personally deciplined. Lives by clear ethical standards and doesn't openly glorify corruption and excesses.
I love this piece...

brain54:
Brain54 thinks.

The biggest fear of many politicians is not opposition parties...

It is a united citizenry.

Because the moment Nigerian youths truly agree on one thing and refuse to back down the balance of power changes immediately.

Notice something- politicians fight themselves during elections, insult each other publicly, expose corruption records… then later they unite easily. No permanent foes in politics right?

But ordinary citizens? We divide ourselves instantly by tribe, religion, celebrity worship ( candidate worship) and party loyalty.

A poor man will defend a politician he has never met more passionately than he defends his own future.

That is the real problem.

Nigerian youths are many. Very many.

But numbers without unity mean nothing.

Look at what usually happens for instance fuel price increases. People complain online for 3 days. Memes everywhere. Then silence.
Another scandal appears. Same cycle repeats.

The system already understands this pattern. That is why very little changes.

The day Nigerian youths become organized, disciplined and focused on long-term accountability instead of temporary outrage, many things would shift quickly- better governance, fear of public backlash, more transparency, stronger institutions and more respect for citizens because leaders behave differently when they know people are watching seriously.

But unity is difficult in Nigeria because emotions are easier to manipulate than logic.

So the real question is do Nigerian youths actually want change... or do we only want our own side to be the one benefiting?

If Nigerian youths truly united what do you think will change first?
You are right... Nigeria citizens have focused their debates on personalities rather than on proffered solutions to prevailing issues...

I request the sincere support from citizens who have desired, wept, been hungry, passionate, prayed for positive change in Nigeria... to wholeheartedly support my Presidential ambition...

Don't sit on the fence... rather let all good hands be on deck...

Is Nigeria’s Youth Really Lazy or Just Systematically Frustrated?

Every time there’s a discussion about unemployment, someone says Nigerian youths are lazy. But let’s be honest—how many graduates apply for hundreds of jobs and get nothing? How many skilled people are underpaid or ignored?

Is it laziness… or a system that doesn’t reward effort?

- No stable electricity
- Limited job opportunities
- High cost of living
- “Connection” over competence

Yet, many youths are still hustling daily—online businesses, freelancing, learning tech skills, side gigs.

So what’s the real problem?

Let’s discuss: Are Nigerian youths actually lazy, or is the system failing them?
Really very annoying...

So many discouraging slogans such as this example of "youths are lazy"... have been formed to deflect the focus of the inefficiency of the government leaders ... unto the begging populace...

There has been no existing plan by past and present Nigerian government leadership... to match future expectations to expected population growth...

Hence we experience a wide gap deficit in all sectors... where number of jobs remain static or decline over time... while both skilled and unskilled labour seekers increase every year...

DrMB:
The reciprocal handshake instinct is correct.
Sovereign foreign policy must be interest-based, not ideologically nursed.
That is not in dispute.

But there is a precise gap between the instinct and the threshold that needs to be named directly.

Yes, No, or let's review assumes the Nigerian state enters the room with equivalent negotiating capacity. The structural problem is that it does not. When Nigeria sits across from the IMF, it does not sit as an equal party reviewing options. It sits as a country whose credit rating, debt denomination, correspondent banking access, and budget support are all controlled by the architecture the IMF represents. The Yes, No, or review option exists in theory. In practice, the cost of No has been made structurally prohibitive before the Nigerian negotiator speaks.

Mahathir said No to IMF capital account prescriptions during the 1997 Asian financial crisis. He could say No because Malaysia had built sufficient domestic institutional capacity, foreign reserve buffers, and state-directed industrial policy to absorb the cost of refusal. The No was available because the institutional foundation had been laid before the crisis arrived.

Nigeria's foreign policy sovereignty is not primarily a question of will. It is a question of institutional capacity to absorb the cost of exercising that will. A leader who arrives with the reciprocal handshake instinct but without having built that institutional capacity will find, in office, that the options narrow very quickly.

The question therefore is not whether you intend to say No when necessary.
The question is what you are building now that will make No structurally survivable when the moment arrives.
That is the gap between foreign policy instinct and structural sovereignty.
And it is the gap the threshold requires you to close.
Well said Dr Bankole...

Among my policies milestone is to zero financial corruption... by recovering loots of our common wealth... Also encourage hard work by supporting enterprising individuals or entities....

But I won't share my strategies towards strengthening the Naira.... it is better implemented than discussed...

Pls understand that IMF just like AFDB are international organizations... operating their businesses for profits not charity donations... I also need to inform you that Nigeria is one of the top shareholders of AFDB... this means we make profits from shared dividends...

These above stated international organizations definitely will market their bank offers to their client... But the discretion to accept or decline lies with the client nation...

My responsibility as President of Nigeria will be to develop a viable economy.... and whenever need arise to interact with any international organization... that such is done transparently and a win-win agreement is reached...

DrMB:
That is a more substantive position, and I appreciate the clarity.

But “self-inflicted rather than external aggression” is a false binary.
The stronger analysis is that Nigeria’s internal failures and the external architecture reinforce each other.

The offshore system does not loot Nigeria by itself. Nigerian elites use it.
IMF conditionalities do not sign themselves. Nigerian governments accept them.
Transfer pricing mechanisms do not operate in a vacuum. Domestic institutions fail to challenge them.

So yes, internal complicity is real. Deeply real.
But the architecture shaping the incentives, penalties, debt structures, capital flows, commodity pricing systems, and policy constraints is also real.

The question for a transformational Nigerian leader is not whether one exists without the other.
It is whether they understand both well enough to build institutions capable of resisting internal capture while negotiating external pressure intelligently.
That is the threshold history eventually asks every serious state-builder.
Dr Bankole... I do understand your position... but you need to know that previous Nigeria Presidents or Heads of States... did not make detrimental decisions "at gun point"... Those decisions were selfishly calculated for personal enrichment...

My foreign policy is basically a reciprocal handshake of individual nation or entity... based on issues at stake and not nursed bitterness...

Kindly understand that Nigeria as a nation also has stakes in some international organizations... likewise we have local businesses that have spread their tentacles into foreign soils... that's business and profit is key...

But in any case... regulating operations of Nigerian investments abroad... and foreign investments within Nigeria should be transparent and devoid of negative clauses...

So to simplify my points... whenever international organizations or nations raise suggestions to us... there are options available... it is either a Yes or No or let's review the issue...

By GOD's grace... Niigeria is no slave to any nation or entity...

Thank you for reading and for the courage to step forward. That alone is not nothing.
But the letter was precise about one thing: the leader Nigeria needs is not recognised by self-identification.
He is recognised by his life before his words.
By what he has named before he had power.
By what he has refused when refusal was costly.
By what he has already begun to build that will outlast him.

So the questions are not hostile. They are the threshold:

Before this conversation, have you named the Bretton Woods conditionalities, the petrodollar architecture, the bilateral investment treaties, and the extractive resource terms publicly and precisely?

Does your personal financial record contradict or confirm your public argument?

What have you built in any office, organisation, or institution you have led that outlasted your direct presence and compounded without you in the room?

These are not questions designed to discourage you.
They are the same questions history asked of Kagame, Meles, Mahathir, and Khama before the room recognised them.

If your answers are strong, share them. Not in simple grammar or complex grammar. In documented record with evidence.

The electorate does not need another dream. It needs evidence that the dreamer has already begun to build while dreaming.

We are watching.
And we are rooting for Nigeria.
You are right with regards the questions you asked...

Notwithstanding... I will be true with the process of my emergence very soon... this will create a better forum for my answers to these enquires to be echoed to all...

But it is good for me to let you know that most of our national woes have been self-inflicted... rather than the perceived external aggression...

Nigeria operating a democratic government system have not been spared of corruption and violent crises. And the need of like-minds joining force and resources, to selflessly restore our destiny is now.

lawani:
I believe most Nigerians support the base. It should be a full fledged base. Enough of the stupidity. What are your grievances against a permanent US base in Nigeria? Why do you oppose it?
I understand that most Nigeria think having a foreign nation military base in Nigeria is good .. But actually i view matters as though I am the President of Nigeria (which I will be)... so what may seem good to solve an emergency may lead to subsequent harm to the nation...

Pls here are some valid points to reason...

1. The insurgency in Nigeria can be easily conquered by the Nigerian Military... but victory has lingered because some persons in power sponsor these militias... because of devilish intentions... These terrorists sponsors have not been taken down because of selfish ambitions to swindle elections results... so thousands of lives of civilians and security personnel have been cut short because of these wicked intentions...

2. Foreign nations are eager to have a base in Nigeria... so as to extend influence to other African nations... But this will boomerang... Here are implications of these nations military presence:..
A. USA will use such to fight our neighbor nations at their own will... while at our detriment...
B. France always eager to control African resources... will use such to sponsor militia groups ... while secretly stealing the resources...
C. UK will secretly benefit from all sides... while publicly denouncing the violence ...
D. China will use their loan funded roads projects... Coastal road, Badagary-Sokoto road... to enhance their economic target by evading our custom checks... using their One road - One belt program to impose their military...
E. Turkey will use such to impose islam-by-force....

3. Remember that Nigeria also has such influence in Africa... this has resulted to single handed interventions in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cote D'Ivoire, Benin... So to maintain global peace... dogs don't eat dogs... lions do not eat lions...

The above points are some reasons I can share...

But to immediately solve this insurgency in the northern part of Nigeria... Let these actions be taken...
1. Immediately block the northern borders of Nigeria...
2. Terrorists and their sponsors should be taken down... no need for arrest... except when needed for intelligence gathering... so that we do not have issues of repentant terrorists...
3. No interventions from sabotaging "ogas at the top"... halting military interventions...
4. Foreign nations can help by seizing funds and assets of terrorists sponsors and corrupt officials... and jail them whenever they visit...
5. Soldiers deployed to battle zones should be paid allowance commensurate to what they earn while under international peace keeping missions... this will boost their morale... RENAISSANCE

It is good when a country shows genuine concern towards other friendly country... such is the case of USA towards the mass killings in Nigeria... But as I earlier stated... there is no need of USA physical presence through their military in Nigeria... it may escalate the violence...

If US military support is required by the Nigerian government... and the use of drones is vital... the US military can use their aircrafts carrier ships... with permission to be at a very far distance from Nigeria shore... this can be coordinated by the Nigerian Navy...

Let's not start what we can not continue... behind US military request... China, France, Russia, Britain, Turkey... would follow suit to demand similar offer using different disguise...

What Nigeria needs from friendly nations... is to seize wealth stolen by corrupt officials domiciled in their country... and jail these corrupt officials whenever they visit their country....

Therefore... there is no need of any foreign country ground base station in Nigeria... RENAISSANCE

A) Chinese J15 or J16 Air superiority fighter - 3 squadrons ( 2 squadrons in storage, with regular upgrades)

B) Chinese AWACS (×2) (1 in storage, with upgrades)

C) US C-17 cargo plane (×2) [ the old C-130s should be fully upgraded and put in storage]

D) Chengdu J-7/F-7N1 ( Local production in Nigeria) Full technology transfer bought off.

E) AIR Corps for radar and missiles.

F) AIR Corps for aircraft software & systems.

F) NAF - DICON (local production of rockets and, air to air missiles)

The Anambra State government has ordered traders in twelve additional markets to operate normally on Mondays, warning that failure to comply could lead to temporary market closures.

The move comes after the state shut down Onitsha Main Market for one week following traders’ refusal to open on Mondays, which the government said disrupted business activities.

The markets now required to open include Ochanja Central Market, Bridgehead Market, Ogbaru Main Market, Building Materials Market Ogidi, Agba-Edo Auto Spare Parts Market Nnewi, New Auto and Motorcycle Spare Parts Market Nnewi, Fairly Used Motorcycle Spare Parts Market Nnewi, New Auto Spare Parts Market Nkpor, Nkpor Main Market, Old Mercedes Benz Spare Parts Dealers Market Nkpor, Old Motor Spare Parts Market Obosi, and Electrical Dealers International Market, Obosi.

A circular titled “Abolishment of Monday Sit-at-Home,” signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, instructed market leaders to inform traders to resume full business on Mondays as directed by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

The government will carry out random inspections, and markets that fail to follow the order may be closed for up to one month.

Shops that remain closed risk being sealed, and owners may face legal consequences.

Governor Soludo has scheduled a meeting with market leaders for Thursday, January 29, at the International Convention Centre in Awka to discuss market operations and the Monday sit-at-home order.

Chairmen, secretaries, zonal leaders, and line chairpersons from markets across the state are expected to attend.

The government said the meeting was requested by some market leaders seeking the reopening of Onitsha Main Market, not as a reaction to traders’ protest earlier this week.

Security will be increased during the meeting to ensure it runs without disruption.

Actually i do not agree with Nnamdi Kanu idealogies... and do not support sit-at-home practices whether on Mondays or any other day...

But my interactions with fellows from Anambra shows that apart from been intelligent... they seem to be die-hard fans of Nnamdi Kanu... so when he yawns they sneeze...

Other South East states have woken up from this dilemma ... For instance in Imo... offices and market open as usual... likewise intra-state transport is normal...

Since this is more of an ideological stereotyping.... not as though they do not want to do business on such days..... I advise Governor Soludo to manage this matter wisely...

Normally whenever I am in Anambra on such days... I go out and do business with those who opened their offices...

I would rather say that the better approaches to this issue are... reassuring the traders of their safety... engaging Christian leaders to discuss with their congregations... making special government purchases from businesses who open on such days...

To the energetic traders... pls open your shops so that customers who find it convenient on Mondays can travel to Anambra to make purchases..

And to Governor Soludo... kindly reconcile with the traders .. RENAISSANCE.

There's a lot of discussion about immigration in the United States. This has inspired this Chinese person to talk about how China handles illegal immigration and he uses Nigerians as an example.

Using Nigerians as a negative case study is what we must reverse...

It's time we develop inwards... patronize locally made products so as to create jobs and improve our economy...

When we do these... and imbibe sincere accountability into our daily operations... then foreign nations will see visiting Nigerians as tourist rather than asylum seekers... This we shall achieve... RENAISSANCE
PoliticsRe: Lagos Announces New Tax Law Empowers State To Seize Funds From Bank Accounts, by san4P(m): 3:44am On Jan 26
Ofunaofu:
Lagos announces new tax law empowers state to seize funds from bank accounts, friends, family members

According to the service, the law permits direct recovery where a taxpayer fails to remit an established tax liability when due.

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has disclosed that the new tax law empowers state revenue agencies to recover unpaid taxes by seizing funds from the bank accounts of employers, friends, business partners, tenants, and other third parties connected to a tax defaulter.

LIRS informed Lagos residents and business owners that the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025 authorises the service to deduct outstanding taxes from rent payments, as well as from accounts belonging to business partners, family members and friends who hold money on behalf of a defaulting taxpayer.

According to the service, the law permits direct recovery where a taxpayer fails to remit an established tax liability when due, expanding enforcement beyond the defaulter’s personal accounts to include those of individuals or entities financially linked to them.

LIRS explained that under Section 60 of the NTAA 2025, the state may issue substitution notices to banks, employers, tenants and any person holding or owing money to a tax defaulter, directing them to remit such funds to the service in settlement of the debt.

“Where a taxpayer fails, neglects or refuses to settle any established outstanding tax liability when due, LIRS may exercise its power under Section 60 to direct any of the following persons to pay the amount owed by the taxpayer: banks and other financial institutions, employers, tenants, debtors, or customers of the taxpayer, agents, business partners, and any person holding money on behalf of the taxpayer and any person owing money to the taxpayer, whether presently due or accruing,” LIRS wrote in a statement.

In such cases, LIRS said it would issue a substitution notice to the defaulter’s bank or to those of third parties holding funds on the taxpayer’s behalf.

Financial institutions are mandated by law to notify LIRS of the account balance of the defaulter and those of their friends and family and remit the outstanding taxes “without delay.”

A receipt confirming payment of outstanding taxes is then sent to the LIRS e-Tax platform:www.stax.lirs.net.

The service warned that under the newly implemented law, failure to comply with a substitution directive constitutes an offence, noting that friends, business associates and other third parties connected to tax defaulters may bear financial responsibility where they are found to be holding funds belonging to the taxpayer.

The NTAA 2025, since its January 1 implementation, has generated rancour among lawmakers who accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of making unapproved alterations in the gazetted versions

Why should a state government enforce an act that has been faulted and under scrutiny?..

Remember that Lagos state was where touts " agberos" were empowered to harass motorists... now they want to initiate another rascality by government....

It's good for Nigerian politicians to know that they actions and inactions will be revisited with justice... RENAISSANCE

It is not often that a Nigerian soldier is able to capture a firefight involving infantry, tanks and major firepower, so when this video clip arrived in my news feed, I had to share it on the Nairaland forum for the viewing pleasure of my fellow armchair generals in the house. If you listen carefully you will hear the whistle of incoming rounds whipping past the cameraman's head as he bravely records the chaotic firefight.

Sit back, and enjoy the fireworks, but while you see the brave men of the Nigerian army lock horns with a determined and well funded enemy, remember that this is no movie, and that when the smoke clears, a few Nigerian soldiers will have paid the ultimate price, and thus made the ultimate sacrifice for their fatherland.

Recently I have watched some clips of real life combat by our fellow soldiers ... giving their best... their lives... to defend our national peace...

A big Salute to these soldiers for their bravery and genuine morale to sustain the victories achieved...

I also encourage fellow citizens... in times like these to show genuine solidarity to the Nigerian Armed Forces... and if possible send gifts through the various military stations within Nigeria... as a show of appreciation and recognition of their sacrificial efforts...

Kudos Soldiers... Good will always conquer evil... RENAISSANCE

Katsina state government and other states government should know that terrorism is not armed robbery... Unlike armed robbery... terrorism is not just an offence against a state... it is an offence against the nation...

Therefore... the power to offer clemency toward arrested terrorists exceeds the authority of state governors...
