Politics / Ajayi Woos Market Women, Others Support For Buhari by sanmiade001: 12:44pm On Jan 31, 2019 |
Ajayi woos market women, others support for Buhari The Executive Director, Lagos International Trade Fair Management Board, Mrs. Lucy Omosefe Ajayi has called on all residents of Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos, including market women, youths, among others, to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates at all levels in the forthcoming general elections. Mrs. Lucy Omosefe Ajayi (middle) flanked by other supporters at the rally Ajayi in her address during the Mile 12 Market rally which took place in Kosofe area of Lagos, stated that her support for President Muhammadu Buhari was borne out of the promise fulfilled by the present administration in his first term. Businesswoman, 39, docked for allegedly issuing N4.1m dud cheque A large number of APC faithful most of whom were clad in white vest with bold pictures of Buhari/Osinbajo and APC logo, converged on the car park of the popular Mile 12 market in the heart of Kosofe, for a support rally she organised. The Arewa community stakeholders in the area, market women and traders all trooped out to show their support for President Buhari and APC, describing him as a man who detest corruption and is capable of restoring Nigeria’s lost glory. The initiator of the rally, Mrs. Lucy Ajayi, while speaking with Vanguard stated why Buhari’s second term bid will be a smooth one. According to her: “We are here to tell the people of Kosofe to vote for APC across board because since APC assumed office three-and-a-half years ago and promised them the dividends of democracy, the party has not failed in its duties, therefore, we are appealing to our people to vote for APC across all levels for continuity in the 2019 elections. “Seeing is believing, Buhari speaks and does what he says. I encourage all to come out in masse and vote for our candidates,” she said. On why the rally was organised in the market square, Lucy said: “Kosofe is a Federal Local Government, and as the former party chairman, I use Mile 12 market because of the crowd and space to accommodate us all, and we have people from various local government areas including Ojo, Alaba, Apapa, Amuwo Odofin among others,” adding that the market people are very reliable. Osinbajo meets Hausa community leader in Lagos “I have influenced the revenue drive target to the tune of N1billion not up to a year of heading the management board, an unprecedented feat at the International Trade Fair and it was made possible by President Buhari’s intolerance for sharp practices, through Treasury Single Account, TSA. With Buhari, Nigeria is on a speedy recovery path to restoration of lost glory. “Some people have gotten Tradermoni. Even the wife of the President has reeled out programmes for women and the girl-child which is a bold step on her part. Another APC chieftain in the area, Alhaji Muhammadu Dandama Yabo, the chairman, Arewa community, Lagos State, while commenting on the importance of the rally, noted that President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievement is unmatched by previous government owing to his doggedness and untainted integrity. “Buhari makes promises and follows through. We are sure he will be voted in again because of his passion to grow a genuine Nigeria we all can be proud of. He is all out against stealing and this is assuring enough for us that if he should be re-elected, our country will fare better,” Dandama said. Comrade Moses Samson Adewale, the Lagos State NANS chairman and Acting Coordinator of APC Student Movement, who also spoke at the gathering stated the need for youths to take decisive action in evolving a political system that works and capable of guaranteeing them a sane future. “We are here in solidarity with our mother, Madam Lucy Ajayi who has done a lot in harnessing and supporting Nigerian youths and students, in this effort geared towards pushing Nigeria to the next level. Nigeria has been suffering from corruption issues which forms PMB’s cardinal agenda. He is trying to address it. “Though in the education sector we feel there is still much he can do, but without cooperation and enough support we will still have to grapple with the problem for long, we should all give him support and let us take our education to the next level. He also lamented that the strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities will hamper the students from taking active part in the electoral process if it persist. “Even the strike is affecting the Nigeria student and it is going to affect the coming election in that most of our student are registered in our campuses and if the government and the ASUU leadership do not reach a meaningful agreement, automatically they will be disenfranchising the Nigerian student at large, therefore there is a need for them to call off the strike as soon as possible. “We cannot leave our future in the hands of the old ones, because they would just continue to drain and train our future to whatever part they feel is ideal, therefore we appeal to Nigerian students and youths to make sure they come out enmasse and participate fully to ensure the change in the political future https://www.citadelng.com 2 Likes 2 Shares

Politics / Ondo Police Nabs Man For Stealing Sister , Brother Wife’s Pants For Rituals by sanmiade001: 10:49am On Jan 31, 2019 |
ONDO POLICE COMMAND NABS MAN FOR STEALING SISTER , BROTHER WIFE’S PANTS FOR RITUALS: The Ondo State Police Command, on Wednesday, arrested a man, Adojoh Ojonugwa, for allegedly stealing his brother wife’s pants in Akure. The suspect was arrested along with a pastor, Olajide Ogunleye, who was also alleged to be involved in the crime. Five ladies’ pants were found inside Ojonugwa’s bag, two of which reportedly belonged to his brother’s wife, while his sister owned the others. The 35-year-old Kogi State indigene was alleged to be planning to use the pants for money-making rituals. It was gathered that when the brother’s wife discovered that her pants had been stolen by the suspect, she reported the matter at the police station, after which Ojonugwa was arrested. Parading the suspect at the command’s headquarters in Akure, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, said Ojonugwa, in connivance with Ogunleye, stole the pants in a bid to use them for money rituals. He said both suspects had confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court after the completion of police investigation. Ojonugwa, while speaking to journalists, confessed to the crime, adding that he was instructed by his pastor, Ogunleye, to bring women’s pants to be used to prepare a portion for good fortune and favour. He said, “When things were difficult for me, I approached the pastor to help me out spiritually and he first gave me something like seeds to swallow and then asked me to go and bring women’s pants as ingredients for money rituals. “I obeyed the pastor because immediately after I swallowed the thing he gave me, I could no longer disobey him; I could not even ask him what he wanted to do with the female pants that he asked me to bring. All I knew was that I went to my brother’s house and stole his wife’s pants and those of my sister.” Ogunleye, however, denied the allegation, saying he was set up by Ojonugwa and his brother. Ogunleye, who claimed to be a pastor at a Celestial Church of Christ in Uso in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, admitted to helping people to solve their problems spiritually but insisted that he never met Ojonugwa. He stated, “I don’t know him; I never set my eyes on him before now; he and his brother are just lying against me; it was his brother that I know. He wanted to buy a piece of land from me but I refused to sell the land to him, because he wanted to use the land to plant cannabis. “I was surprised to be arrested by the police for a matter I know nothing about. It was a frame-up by his brother, because I refused to sell the land to him.” https://www.citadelng.com 4 Likes 4 Shares

Politics / I Am Not Corrupt, Buhari Tells Nigerians: by sanmiade001: 10:28am On Jan 31, 2019 |
I am not corrupt, Buhari tells Nigerians: President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday stated that he was never convicted of corruption in all the positions he held in the country. He promised Nigerians that he will continue to uphold the trust they have in him if re-elected for a second term in office. He made the declaration at the Park Oruta Ngele Township stadium Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, during the All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential campaign. Buhari was former military head of state (1983-85), governor of the defunct North Eastern State (1975–1976), and chairman Petroleum Trust Fund (1994-95). He said: “I can assure you that I, as the president, today have never been in a position of abusing trust. As a governor of the whole six north eastern states, as minister of petroleum for over three years and as a former head of state. I was arrested, detained, investigated but they never found anything against me.” The President thanked Ebonyi people for turning out in their large numbers for the rally, saying that they demonstrated that they cannot be bought; he urged them to hold him by his words. Buhari recalled that when he came for campaign in 2015, he promised three things: to tackle the security situation in the country that time in 17 local governments in the North East were under the control of Boko Haram but as at today, there is no local government under the control of the terrorists. He said: “The important thing is that, please try and hold us by our promise. When we came here the last time, we told you there are three fundamental things the country is facing. First we had to secure the country because part of the country was under threat in the North East, at least 17 local governments were in the hands of Boko Haram; second was the economy. The able-bodied unemployed persons in Nigeria are too many. The thirdly was to fight corruption.” The president congratulated the military and other law- enforcement agencies that today none of the local governments in the North East is under the control of Boko Haram. “They have resulted in indoctrinating young men and abducting young girls below the ages of 15, wrap them with explosives and send them to soft targets – churches, mosques, market places and motor parks. Even that is becoming rear now.” Buhari also said that with a favorable weather, Nigeria had achieved food security and no longer imports rice, adding that the money saved from importation was now being used for infrastructural development https://www.citadelng.com 2 Likes 2 Shares

Politics / Vice President Osinbajo Says To Dualize Akure-ondo Road by sanmiade001: 3:57pm On Jan 30, 2019 |
FG To Dualize Akure-ondo Road - Vice President Osinbajo The Federal Government is set to dualise Akure-Ondo-Ore highway to boost economic activities of Ondo state. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed this at the palace of Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo as part of activities for his two days official visit to the state. According to Osinbajo, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari will also ensure that the proposed upgrading of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo to a federal University become a reality soon. Professor Osinbajo pointed out that he would personally do everything possible to make the college a university of education since the national assembly had passed the enabling act. According to the Vice President, the college established as the first College of education in Nigeria over 50 years ago is long overdue to be upgraded. Osinbajo said that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had spent a total of N2.7 trillion on infrastructural development since assumption of office, stressing that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring that money belonging to Nigerians are not stolen but used for nation building. The Vice President further hinted that the country was earning 60 per cent less than what it was earning in the past 16 years, adding that despite this low earning, the current administration had spent fund that could be the highest ever on infrastructure such as roads and railway modern in the country. The Vice President said, “Today, N2.7trillion is what we are spending on infrastructural development. The question we ought to ask the opposition people who were in office for 16years is, What did they do with the money if today we are still reconstructing Lagos-Ibadan expressway. We are building Lagos -Ibadan rail project which will be commissioned in few days time”. “If we get your mandate again by God’s grace, we will continue to work against corruption that is affecting our country, we will build more infrastructure”. https://www.citadelng.com 1 Like 1 Share

Politics / Oshiomole Explains Why Buhari Met With APC Senators by sanmiade001: 1:45pm On Jan 30, 2019 |
Why Buhari met with APC senators — Oshiomhole National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said President Muhammadu Buhari hosted to a dinner senators elected on the platform of the party, Monday night, to strategise on next month’s elections, with a view to ensuring victory at the polls. APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole Oshiomhole, who gave this explanation in an interview with State House correspendents after the dinner, said event had provided an opportunity for the President to meet with the caucus of the Senate and the “incoming senators” (APC senatorial candidates). He expressed the hope that Nigerians would give APC a comfortable majority in the Senate and House of Representatives, based on the tenet of “one-man, one-vote.” Oshiomhole He said: “Basically, the meeting was for the President to meet with the caucus of the Senate and the incoming senators by the grace of God. “The whole idea is for the President to have direct interaction with the senators and the senatorial candidates of the APC so that they will work hard and ensure that on the basis of one-man, one-vote, the outcome of the 2019 elections will be in our favour. “This is an opportunity for some of the senatorial candidates to meet with the President for the first time.” According to him, the meeting also enabled the President and the senators and party’s senatorial candidates the opportunity to compare and share notes on the campaigns of each of the senatorial districts. On the reactions of the international community to the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, Oshiohmole dismissed any form of foreign outcry against the action taken on CJN’s case, saying Nigeria is not a colony. He said Nigerians must defend the supremacy of the country, adding that corrupt justices were being prosecuted across the world. Also speaking on the suspension of the CJN, Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, said it was wrong for the Senate to reconvene over the matter as there were many cases in courts challenging or supporting the suspension. 2 Likes 2 Shares

Politics / Buhari To Traditional Rulers: Ensure Peace During Polls: by sanmiade001: 11:23am On Jan 29, 2019 |
Buhari to traditional rulers: ensure peace during polls: President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday tasked traditional rulers in the country to ensure peace and security in their domains during the 2019 general election. He spoke through Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the 10th General Assembly of the National Council of Traditional Rulers in Nigeria, NCTRN, in Abuja. He said, “Given the activities of unscrupulous individuals who use the election season to forment trouble and disturb the electoral process, the role of security agencies is particularly crucial. “But the backbone of effective security is quality intelligence and the most trusted repository of local intelligence is of course the royal father in his domain, and we encourage the security agencies to work closely with you in this enormous task. “As a nation with diverse norms, cultures, traditions, ethnic nationalities and religions we have witnessed various degrees of conflicts and violence during elections in the past borne out of irresponsible utterances, hate speech, designed to incite and provoke disturbances. “We must not tolerate this dangerous behavior. Your positions as traditional heads of your communities accord you considerable influence and the respect of your subjects.” According to him, the general assembly of the traditional rulers came at the right time when Nigerians are preparing to vote in new leaders. He urged the royal fathers to build synergies that are important in assuring free, fair and peaceful elections to enable them to contribute to voter education. This, he said, would ensure that the electorate understands the processes to undergo during the election. “Coming at this time, this annual gathering of the royal heads of our traditional institutions is indeed a blessing and the theme most appropriate. “This is because the role of your royal majesties and traditional institutions are crucial for connecting the people of your kingdoms and domains to the federal and state agencies responsible for the conduct of elections. “The major purpose of establishing that link is to educate the local electorate or reinforce information that they may have about electoral processes as laid down by INEC. “For example, INEC has said that in the forthcoming polls, voters will be accredited and then vote immediately after accreditation. And we expect that INEC will be working in close collaboration with all of our royal fathers in your various domains to ensure that not are you adequately informed but also that your people are also adequately informed.” he said The President also restated the commitment of the Nigerian government to deliver a transparent, free and fair, credible and peaceful election this year. He said the security agencies have been directed to maintain peace and order and provide security during elections, warning that “any attempt to cause mayhem and undermine the electoral process would be met with the full force of the law.” 1 Like 1 Share

Health / Akeredolu Charges Community Leaders On Polio Sensitization: by sanmiade001: 10:20am On Jan 29, 2019 |
AKEREDOLU CHARGES COMMUNITY LEADERS ON POLIO SENSITIZATION: Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has charged community leaders to preach the gospel of immunization in Churches, mosques and the community at large so as to help government in its efforts towards total eradication of polio. Akeredolu said the primary healthcare can only be effective when the trio of government, health workers and community members work hand in hand at all times. The governor commended all those who have been involved in the onerous duty of combating polio virus in the state. He hailed the team led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro for sustaining the tempo on Polio eradication in the state. Governor Akeredolu spoke at the State Task Force meeting on Polio eradication and Routine Immunization, held at the Cocoa Conference Hall, governor’s office, Alagbaka, Akure on Monday. He said : “As a traditional ruler, how much of the gospel of immunisation do you tell your community members during important community events and other avenues? Are our town criers at village levels still up and doing about community sensitisation? At the level of the 203 wards across the 18 LGAs, are the Ward Development Committee (WDC) members still committed to their communal tasks? “Do churches and mosques still talk about immunisation during and after service to orientate their congregation and dispel immunisation myths? The Governor also charged the media to take part in the sensitization roles of polio as their corporate Social responsibility by airing jingles on immunization on radio and television stations. Is the media ready to give more free slots, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, for our immunisation jingles to air on radio and television stations? The governor also called for a sense of patriotism amongst the health workers and the people so as to prevent any incidence of Polio virus and other vaccine-preventable diseases in the State. He added that the honest attitude of the rebranded primary healthcare workers towards Routine Immunisation services across the 18 LGAs of the State has begun to yield fruits. He said : “As you all know, the benchmark used in assessing our vaccination effort is the 3rd dose of Pentavalent vaccine (Penta-3) and the records have it that State’s real Penta-3 coverage for January-December 2018 is 79%. This is the true picture of our recent records and renewed attitude. ” Governor Akeredolu said his administration will continue to improve the working condition of health workers to boost their morale towards delivery of immunization and other services. He said ” As a responsible and responsive government that has recently employed hundreds of health workers for the secondary facilities managed by the State Hospitals’ Management Board (HMB) despite lean resources, we shall continue to improve the working condition of our health workers to boost their morale towards delivery of immunisation and other services. ” The governor thank the development parterners – the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF and the supervising agency of the Federal Government – the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), for their supports. 1 Like 1 Share

Politics / Idi-ogba Community Gets N10m For Housing by sanmiade001: 1:38pm On Jan 28, 2019 |
Idi-Ogba community gets N10m for housing Determined to showcase the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration’s passion for socio-economic and infrastructural development of the people at the grassroots, the Ondo State Community and Social Development Agency (ODCSDA), has presented a cheque of 10 million naira to Alubarika Group, Idi-Ogba community to build housing units. A community leader, Chief Olubukola Ebietomiye said the housing units project was the first of its kind in the history of Idi-Ogba, in Ilaje Local Government area of the state. He said, “On behalf of the community, I want to appreciate the courage of the state government through the agency for bringing projects to the grassroots. The community is grateful to the government and the World Bank for the gesture”. According to him, “The community is built on love, progress and unity which have transformed to the current peace and mutual coexistence in th area. “The development of our town has been solely on communal efforts of our people, the foundation of which our fathers laid years back. We were told that Idi-Ogba people came from Ile-Ife in Osun state to settle here. “We have two seasons every year; the rainy and dry seasons. During this period, the dry season we can walk on land and vice verse. Our major occupation is fishing which we trade to train our children in school because we believe so much in good and quality education. “Idi-Ogba is the first community in Ilaje to enjoy western education with the only Community Primary School built in 1921 by the community and before its establishment, there was standard education for our fathers. We are all christians, so our communal spirit is strong that we fight the same course”. Ebietomiye however called on government to consider the community more in its developmental projects, saying the housing units project powered by the World Bank through the state government is a welcome development that will improve the status of the town. “The project when completed will accommodate the widows and aged in the community. It’s new in Ilaje area and we are ready to take the opportunity with all seriousness”. Earlier in his address, ODCSDA Operations Manager, Mr. Olumide Igbaroola explained that the group is part of the Gender and Vulnerable Group Support Investment (GVGSI) programme of the agency, targeted at the vulnerables in the society. “GVGSI is a set of vulnerable people who have common interest and who are willing to work together to access common social and natural resource infrastructure services”. He reaffirmed that the projects are community self driven through direct labour, adding that the government is committed to empowerment of citizens. Igbaroola said successful completion of the housing units project would go a long way in improving the lives of people in the area especially the widows, aged and less privileged urging them to be united to achieve success. “Development and engagement of aged people will definitely improve their status and the social as well as economic growth of Idi-Ogba. I want you all to show commitment and determination to make the project a success”, he urged. https://www.citadelng.com 2 Likes 2 Shares

Politics / Us, Uk And Eu Coordinated Statements On The Cjn – Our Stance by sanmiade001: 8:20am On Jan 28, 2019 |
US, UK AND EU COORDINATED STATEMENTS ON THE CJN – OUR STANCE The Presidency notes with interest the coordinated statements of the US, UK and EU linking the suspension of CJN Onnoghen to the conduct of the upcoming elections. We appreciate the concerns voiced by the three statements and accept that the authors of the statements believe they were acting in friendship toward Nigeria with regard to making the statements. However, we also note that friends, when not properly informed or acting in haste, can indeed make serious mistakes even with the best of intentions. Such is the case here. The statements by the three seem more driven by unfounded assumptions and to be honest, a certain condescension to this African democracy. This is unfortunate. But this gives us an opportunity to clarify some points in the hope that these three friends reach a deeper understanding of the situation. The statements by the US, UK and EU speak of their respect for constitutional practice and fair elections. However, the positions they stake tend to contravene rather than strengthen these laudable objectives. CJN Onnoghen’s situation is one of his own making and, to a large degree, his own choosing. The CJN was brought before the CCT because of a serious breach of law regarding his assets declaration. This is not a mere technicality like innocently placing a document in a wrong file or mistakenly placing yesterday’s date on a document. All credible evidence indicates the CJN owned and operated several secret bank accounts. Unexplained large sums of money, exceeding several million dollars have passed through these accounts. Several thousand dollars are currently parked in the accounts. Multiple deposits of equal sums of money were deposited in some of those accounts during the same day. Such rapid and equal deposits are indicative of a person attempting to evade banking reporting laws and regulations. Thus far, CJN Onnoghen has given no plausible explanation for the funds or for failing to report the subject accounts in his assets declaration despite having ample time and opportunity to explain the omission. Given the amount of money involved and the CJN’s inability to explain the source of the funds, the most plausible explanation at this point is also the most unfortunate explanation. No one did this to CJN Onnoghen. He and he alone is to blame for this turn of events. Over the years and with great frequency, the authors of the three statements have advised and even chided Nigeria about official corruption. Now we are presented with the sad and unwanted situation where the CJN is discovered to have a vast, unexplained amount of money in his pocket. Because of this he has been thoroughly discredited. It is untenable that a person in such compromised circumstances would be allowed to preside over the entire judicial system of a great nation. That would travesty the nation and what it stands for. Had the situation been reversed and the US, UK or any EU member government found that its chief judicial official is the recipient of large sums of money of questionable origin and Nigeria suggested that you retain the person in that position, you would question Nigeria’s bona fides. You also would swiftly move to suspend the official pending final determination of the causes against him. Not one of your nations would allow a person enmeshed in legal uncertainty to preside over your legal systems until the cloud has been cleared from him. That would incentivize corruption and assault the rule of law. Thus, the CJN should have and could have helped the process in this regard by recusing himself from the bench until this matter is settled. Instead, he indefinitely postponed a NJC meeting for no plausible reason except to avoid any consideration of this matter by the NJC. Again, this calls into question his motives while undermining the normal operations of the judiciary. The CJN cannot be allowed to use his office to shield himself from the normal operation of the law as applied to any other jurist or any other Nigerian for that matter. Such a ruse is effectively an abuse of office. His position is one of utmost public trust; it is not a shield to protect him from the fair consequence of his own actions. Despite these errors and omissions by the CJN, let us make this very clear, he has not been removed from office. Nor has he been permanently replaced. Those who claim that he has been permanently removed, do so out of imprecision of thought or mischief. CJN Onnoghen has been suspended pending the final determination of the substantive issues in his matter. The suspension is only temporary. This is only as it should be. He cannot sit as both defendant and umpire in his own matter. No legal system allows for such self-interested adjudication; the US, UK and EU should not now ask us to embrace such an anomaly. While the three friends seem to give much credence to those who question the constitutionality of the suspension, they seem to give less to those who believe what we did is constitutional and protective of the integrity of the judiciary. Only the three can answer why they have assumed this bias. Last, the three make a curious direct linkage between the CJN suspension and the elections. However, in Nigerian law there is no such linkage. The CJN does not run the election. Nor is he the first arbiter of any electoral complaints. He and the Supreme Court will only get involved as the final arbiter at the end of the appellate process. For the authors to link the CJN to the elections in this way is illogical unless they assume that election complaints will be filed and will go all the way to the Supreme Court. Here perhaps they know something about the intentions of certain political actors to which we are not privy. Yet, even with that, the US , UK and EU should want any such matters to be heard by a Supreme Court led by a CJN without an obvious and outstanding ethical and legal blemish on his ledger. To have such a person preside over any case, would call into question the impartiality of any decision rendered and undermine the rule of law. This cannot be what these three friends of Nigeria intended. Thus, they should do a bit more research on this matter and refrain from being too hastily attracted by the arguments of those who have partisan agenda at odds with the government’s positions on most matters and who thus hope to use this issue as a new arrow in their quiver of partisan contestations. Politics / Fg Welcomes Us, Uk Statements On Nigeria Election by sanmiade001: 3:02pm On Jan 25, 2019 |
FG WELCOMES US, UK STATEMENTS ON NIGERIA ELECTION The Federal Government has welcomed the statements from the United States and the United Kingdom demanding credible and peaceful election in Nigeria and threatening punitive measures against election riggers and perpetrators of electoral violence. In a statement issued in Ilorin on Friday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the Federal Government is particular delighted that the statements came after it alerted the nation to the machinations of some opposition elements who are working to scuttle the 2019 polls through widespread violence. ”A few days ago, we alerted the nation to the plot by the opposition to orchestrate widespread violence in the country, using insurgents and criminal elements within and outside the country. Their plan is to scuttle the election and then push for an interim government, having realized they can’t win a free, fair, credible and peaceful elections. ”The fact that those statements came after we issued our red alert, which is based on credible intelligence, shows that the international community is closely monitoring events ahead of the election. We urge them to keep a close tab on the desperate opposition, whose language, actions and undisguised threats are antithetical to the conduct of peaceful polls,” he said. Alhaji Mohammed said Nigerians and the international community should take seriously the assurance of a credible and violence-free election that has been consistently given by President Muhammadu Buhari, a tried-and-tested democrat and a globally-acclaimed man of integrity. He said the APC-led Administration is very confident of victory in the forthcoming elections, adding that a party that was not so desperate as to rig election while in opposition had no business rigging election or perpetrating violence now that it is in power and is enjoying massive support from the citizenry. The Minister called on the international community to keep a close eye on those who are spending more time on a dubious strategy of scuttling the polls than campaigning to win in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful election. ”As their campaign flounders and their strategies collapse, they have resorted to seeking power by subterfuge. That’s why they are doing everything possible to discredit an election that has yet to be held by unleashing their attack dogs on INEC, the police and the entire electoral process. ”On our part, we have confidence in the electoral process and the institutions saddled with organizing and securing the election. That’s why we have been busy campaigning vigorously across the country, attracting unprecedented, organic crowds everywhere we go. ”The party that has a history of rigging polls is well known to Nigerians. The party that has a history of using security forces to unleash violence in order to steal the people’s votes is well known to Nigerians. The party that organized an election that was later described as flawed by its own ‘winning’ presidential candidate is well known to Nigerians. That party is not the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said. https://www.citadelng.com 2 Likes 2 Shares
